I just discovered this place after they catered the most delicious bibimbop bowls for lunch at my work. I had no idea they had some Korean items on their catering menu and we were able to order them by phone for regular to go service and the second time around was just as good. Hi, just wanted to leave this review for Kana Sushi in Walnut Creek, Ca. We just noticed this place a couple of weeks ago by shopping nearby. Thought we would give it a try.. Wow im sure glad we did. The Bento box and other Sushi rolls are of good fresh quality. Food presentation is well done and the portions are plentiful. The tempura is done well and crispy! Prices are spot on not feeling over priced and well worth the value. Customer service is 5 star and the employees are very helpful. The taste is done to perfection as the ingredients are fresh. The Salmon teriyaki is just right and not overcooked. You can see the fresh fish items in their refrigerated glass case. if you need to get in and out without waiting long. Pleasantly surprised. Definitely don't just be a book by its cover - you may have an underwhelming expectation when you see the place from the outside. We wanted to try a new quality sushi spot. We were looking for a more wholesome ambience, not so much the light and glitter you would expect in downtown Walnut Creek restaurants. We enjoyed the food, quality is good and quantity is plentiful. We've given up on Kana as a sushi restaurant but they make the best teriyaki! Unfortunately, the sushi rolls are never rolled tightly enough and fall apart as soon as you try to pick up a bite. We've given them a number of chances hoping it was just an off night and they were training someone, but after giving them many chances over the past few months, it's not getting any better. This was our first time here. We will be back for sure. My girlfriend and I normally go to House of Sake for lunch. Today was a Saturday- so they weren't open, so we were about to settle for Chinese food when a neighbor suggested Kana. She said we would love it. She said they have great food at a good price. We were greeted immediately upon entering. Even the gentleman making the sushi took time to look up and greet us. They seemed to be busy with take away orders. We saw the same delivery guy in there at least 5 times while we enjoyed our leisurely lunch. We ordered a glass of Chardonnay each to start. My friend is all about her Chardonnay. Next time, I would skip it here. Not sure who they were serving- but we both agreed- we didn't care for it at all. We also didn't like the wine glasses. Reminded us of going to grandma's house. Honestly, this was the only thing we didn't like here. The food was amazing. Looking forward to bringing my hubby here. I've showed him the menu already- he's picked a few rolls to start. My friend had the lunch bento with the chicken teriyaki and the shrimp tempura. She kept raving about it. She took the chicken home to have for dinner. We definitely judged before sitting down and indulged. The interior needs improvements, but we understand especially during times like these. Customer service was awesome. We took our first bite of each roll and our eyes literally rolled lol. The presentation, quality, sauces, and layers all complimented each other. Wasn't too overwhelming nor was it bland. It was so hard for us to find a go-to sushi spot in the east bay and this might be the one at the moment. Prices were also reasonable. I'm so disappointed.. reviews were good at this place?! I ordered two rolls, spider roll & 49er roll. (My order was for pickup/take out) The sushi has the tinniest pieces of avocado & stuffed with imitation crab, the crab was not tasty either.. it was very overwhelming! The salmon on 49er roll wasn't bad but not fresh either.. it takes me a lot to leave a bad review but this was disappointing $30 and the miso soup was what I enjoyed the most, I had to scoop out some crab meat to enjoy and eat with a lot of ginger slices to tolerate it. Been coming to Kana for many years and glad to see them surviving despite the negative impact of the pandemic. I've appreciated their consistency, later hours, and the owner always provides friendly and efficient service. On the most recent trip, we enjoyed their shrimp tempura dinner which included a good portion of properly fried prawns and salad with a creamy dressing; excellent salmon, unagi and yellowtail nigiri, hamachi lovers roll (California roll topped with yellowtail), and crispy panko-crusted oysters. Many other menu choices that we've tried have largely all been good. Will continue to support this local Japanese restaurant. read more

Okay sushi place. The prices are cheaper than other sushi places, so you get what you paid. This place might be understaffed. There were only one more table in the restaurant, but the food came out pretty slow. We were really craving sushi this weekend and were glad that Kana was open during the time we headed out for lunch (2:30PM) since most other sushi restaurants in the area closed at 3PM and reopened at 5PM. Rather than rush to eat our rolls in 30 mins at other places we decided to head over here and Kana was a solid option since there's a parking lot and the place wasn't too crowded so we got seated immediately. | WHAT WE GOT | + Rainbow Roll - I always opt to get rainbow rolls because they give you a nice assortment between albacore, tuna, salmon, and shrimp. I liked the tuna and shrimp portions of this roll the most, but the salmon was close behind. + Crunchy Spicy Tuna Roll - I liked the crunch texture added by the tempura pieces on top. The spicy tuna was fairly simple but wasn't too spicy. + Fried Salmon Roll (can't remember the exact name) - My fave! This roll was definitely the most savory of the three but it was a nice texture and flavor change between bites. Rolls here decently priced $7-$15. I thought they were on the smaller side for the price range compared to other places I've been to but the three rolls were just the right amount to share between the two of us. This spot is still offering take out and delivery during covid! I was on door dash and they were offering free delivery to my local restaurants. Kana was on my list of places to try so I was super excited to order from here. I order the California roll, garlic edamame, and w white blossom roll. Everything was reasonably priced. I loved everything that I tried. If you are looking to go try a new place, or just even get some sushi you should go to Kana. That edamame with the garlic sauce was to die for! I loved the flavor in it because it wasn't to salty and you could taste the edamame. The California roll was delicious. The crab mixture was so creamy and the ratio was perfect, maybe even more crab mixture compared to other places which is a winner with me. The white blossom roll was yummy! They gave you a good amount a masago that you could actually put on each roll. Overall I really loved the food here. There was a gentleman that greeted us right away and seated us, he got our food orders and also made the food then served us. I was really amazed by his fast and friendly service. We would never have found Kana Sushi if not for a last-minute decision to not go to Papa John's Pizza next door. Best choice I've made in my life, besides graduating from college and all that other stuff. If you've been on the search for a mind-blowing bento box, look no further. At $15 for the dinner bento, expect much, much more food than you'll need - it's honestly more food that I would usually eat in a buffet. Miso soup, tuna sashimi, green salad, noodle salad, California roll, shrimp & veggie tempura, edamame, chicken teriyaki and rice?! This place has become our bento heaven, and we've found our way back here a number of times and have never ordered anything else. That said, the rolls all look great, as well at the entrees that venture outside the (bento) box. Maybe one day we'll be willing to pass up our regular order and try something new. The vibe in Kana is generally quiet, but conversational, and the service is gracious and friendly. There's a TV above the sushi bar, but other than that, the dining room has a more formal quality for larger groups. We usually like grabbing a booth by the bar and fanning out all of the components of our meal across the table. Some hot tea or a warm bottle of sake round things out. If you're not in Walnut Creek, take a drive out here and make a night of it with a walk around the new Broadway Plaza, or catch a movie at Century Theaters. I stumbled across this little business on Yelp and decided to try because their good reviews.. Those reviews did not lie one bit! I came here on a Saturday early afternoon and there wasn't anyone else, but my sister and I there. We always have a hard time choosing what to order because we love Japanese food! After awhile we decided to order: chicken katsu, chirashi bowl, cherry roll, and 2 spicy tuna hand rolls. They were all so delicious and great portions.
