Great personalities, very attentive, knew the menu inside and out. Great time - and a fair price for sushi! Some opinions of what we had.... Miso soup...very mild, light fish flavors, served nicely warm but not piping hot.  Pan fried gyoza.... tender, light, airy, smooth, great appetizer.  Unagi....a little dry, mild flavor, add a pinch of wasabi and it really pops. Solid product. Rainbow roll.... clean, light, nice and creamy, mild flavors. Delicious. Lucky roll.... our son wouldn't let me try it but he said it was good and delicious. Located on the same street as back forty. But in the shopping complex with 7-11, Subway, Heavenly Bistro. Very limited parking. Called in and ordered three sushi rolls for pick up. Told they'd be ready in five minutes which I thought was interesting. I arrived 15 minutes after placing the order, The place was empty- it was around 4PM on a weekday. No welcome in or hello from staff, I was asked "pick up?" And said yes and provided my name. I was informed they were still preparing my order-GOOD. I would've been concerned if it was ready in less time. I handed my payment card to the host, she struggled with inserting the card into the square device, as well as holding the chip over the device as well. After about 3 minutes she figured it out. I was handed my receipt to fill out. She watched as I filled in the respected lines. I did not leave a tip - as it was a up order, and service thus far was not to par. I waited for my order... 8 minutes later it was ready. Before leaving I checked the bag, order correct, but lacking my preference of soy sauce. I asked the host for more she came back with ONE packet, and tossed it in the bag I was holding. I said out loud "oh just one?" Then asked the sushi chef if they had little to go containers for soy sauce and if I could get one of those. He said yes and instructed the host to fill one for me. She did, came out and handed it to me with what I interpreted was an annoyed look. I said thank you and left. Fascinating to say the least. I guess I was asking for too much. Sushi was decent. I've been here quite a few times now, and I can confidently say that this place is pretty good! I find myself always ordering the 49er roll, which has salmon and lemon on top, and the Flaming Dragon roll, which they bring to you wrapped in foil, and ON LITERAL FIRE. They tell you to wait until the fire dies down and they will open it up for you. If you dine-in, you'll get some miso soup, and a pitcher of water at your table to serve yourself. You will need to ask for a fork, if you don't want to use chop sticks. This restaurant does get a few customers (I have not seen it empty). They have a good amount of tables, and a bar, if you want to eat solo. The customer service is just fine -- they take your order and are polite. read more

Hasumi is such a gem in Walnut Creek! It's tucked in a smaller plaza. The ambiance is quite casual and it wasn't packed when i visited yesterday on a Monday night so it was very easy to get a table. When we arrived, they miso soup, fresh ginger and wasabi. The ginger was just right because it was not too sharp and it was very fresh. Parking was difficult to find, like Costco on a Sunday kinda hard, so I recommend going off peak hours. Saba Shioyaki was a super tasty, get two bowls of rice because you're big and beautiful. Yelpers do it again! I was drawn to this place because of its 4.5 stars on Yelp and was relatively close in distance to where I was during that time. Hubby wanted the Flying Tiger roll and the Dragon roll and I got the #11 bento dinner with short ribs, salad, miso soup, tempura vegetables, rice and 4 California rolls. Hasumi is a perfectly adequate sushi location. Parking is relatively easy in a private lot. The spot itself is in a mini strip mall. All gluten free items are marked clearly on the menu. You can tell they actually did their gluten free research because none of the tofu skin items were marked gf-- it's uncommon knowledge that inari is not celiac safe, but Hasumi knew. The food was okay if not a little pricey. Service was friendly and quick. Vibe is adequate. No free items like at many Americanized Japanese places similar. read more

They bring a large complementary cold glass bottle of water to each table with metal cups, which is such a nice touch. I can tell you that their chicken teriyaki, and salmon teriyaki, raw salmon and tempura were all delicious. Tempura was hot, very tasty, and it makes me want to go back for more. This is one of few Japanese restaurants I've been to that don't close midday. It's a great option for a late lunch or very early dinner. Perfect for when you're craving sushi at 3 or 4pm. We ordered the sushi and sashimi combo, two beef udons, and diet cokes. They give complimentary miso soup. The cokes came in their cans and we are also given a glass with ice for the soda. I really enjoyed my sushi and sashimi. It had a good variety. Service was fast. The fish tasted fresh. It was the perfect amount of food for one person. My companions also raved above the beef udon being delicious! The bowl was quite large and I don't think they fully finished the broth. It was very filling. Ambiance is casual. The restaurant itself is on the small side and located in a strip mall with 7/11 on one side and that's in front of an apartment complex. The road here is confusing. Still not sure if the parking lot is one way due to how some people parked. The GPS instructions may look confusing. You turn left towards what looks like the apartment complex and there will be a break in the meridian to take another left into the lot. The lot is small and some people park on the street. Wow! The service here was so phenomenal! As soon as we sat down, we were greeted with water and miso soup. I asked for hot sake and a beer and within less than a minute, they were back at our spot with our drinks. We sat at the bar and got to watch the sushi being made (always a preference of mine). I like the bentos and have been surprised by the qualify of the meat that comes with it. For example, the bbq beef short rib is REALLY tender and flavorful; it's honestly impressive. I discovered Hasumi Sushi for the first time a few weeks ago. I ordered take out - got a chicken teriyaki bento with tempura, miso soup, and California roll. What stood out to me most is that they have unique options available such as Sake-Kama (grilled salmon collar). The salmon collar was a good portion size and my mom was thrilled to be able to enjoy her personal favorite part of the fish. The tempura was well-fried and I enjoyed the portions of the sides and the variety of vegetables. The miso soup was very, very salty though.
