They were very responsive from the Yelp inquiry and sent out someone a day or two later who seemed experienced and forthright (Dario). He was able to immediately diagnose the source of my water entry (something another company had missed or tried to upsell on diagnosing it a different way). He was willing to walk me through what he was seeing on the roof and also took photos clearly showing the issue. While he was up there, I brought two other minor issues I'd been meaning to take care of and he was happy to take photos and add them to the quote (cracked vent seal and small area of entry into the attic). They put together a formal quote and proposal within a few days and I was able to talk with one of the owners (Jason) on the phone to discuss the questions I had. He was willing to work with me on alternative (less expensive) options on one of the repairs I was requesting and walked me through the pros/cons. Felt like he really understood what I was looking for and took the time with me, even though I know it was a small repair for them. They completed the work in one day, within a week of deciding to move forward. Payment was easy and online with an immediate receipt. Price seemed fair --- bay area expensive, but worth not doing the work myself for this situation. I'd look to them first for any future work.

It was easy coordinating with Danny, Ivan and the foreman on site throughout the entire process. From the detailed proposal to final touch-ups with painting, I could tell how much they cared about doing a thorough and quality job. Not only was the perimeter of our house very clean (cleaner than before they started), they also helped clean up the debris that ended up in our garage because of the exposed ceiling which I truly appreciate. Lastly, I did not know this at first, but my neighbor saw a crew member tighten the hinges on our gate (very old) because they noticed it was uneven when they used it to access the side of the house. He didn't offer an option for repair until I asked and instead went straight into discussing shingle colors and availability. Typical sales scare tactics were used like telling us a leak was from condensation due to the lack of ridge vents. We have gable vents and so does every other house on the block. By his logic, every old house without ridge vents should be leaking water. I've been in my attic, there's no condensation issue. Their price for a new roof seems fair but given our roof is 12-15 years old with two leaks, it's far from needing a full replacement. They also offered no warranty if we went with a repair. He also estimated my roof to be 25 years old when my home inspection and other roofers estimated 10-15 years old.

Not only did they do an awful job - nothing nailed down around skylights, lack of communication, no photos or videos showing progress or completion, having to repeatedly ask for annual warranty inspections, etc - but one of their guys stepped through the roof and into the interior (luckily he did not fall in). When I asked what happened he said he was being careless and accidentally stepped through. Ok things happen, they repaired the roof and then sent a guy to fix the ceiling inside. I asked him which colour paint he was using and to make sure it matches the ceiling. He had the audacity to tell me (the homeowner) that it's none of my business which paint he's using!! Of course I kicked him out immediately. Today I have another roofing company repairing a damaged skylight and all the other things Sierra left undone. Not only is the new roofer thorough, but they have sent photos and videos throughout to update me even though I am right here inside the house.

This was not my experience with some of the other roofing companies who felt rushed or were asking me to cut corners. In contrast, ELM gave me several alternatives before we zeroed on to a torchdown roof. Next, Rodrigo and Lincon were very communicative on our group chat and kept me apprised of the progress throughout, including tons of photos. Rodrigo was also very proactive in dealing with the city for permits as well as clarifications etc, which happened several times since our city is one of the stricter ones. During all this, we had a running clock since we were in contract to sell the house, but Rodrigo and company kept things in motion, sometimes working late hours to ensure completion on time, which we did with several days to spare. It was also very nice of them to talk to my buyers to tell them about the new roof in detail. I was also pleasantly surprised with their integrity. For example, the roofing torch is huge and heavy and accidentally did some minor damage to the house. They fixed it without questions in a very timely manner. They also provided us with a courtesy cleanup inside the house to cleanup roofing debris after demolition. So yeah, thanks to Rodrigo, Lincon, and their crew, we have a brand new roof and siding. They are polite, professional, reasonably priced, great at communication, and clean up well after themselves. Would recommend them 100/100.

The crew was experienced, hardworking, and paid close attention to the underlying waterproofing and construction details. The finished stucco looks excellent, and they also did a thorough cleanup afterward. Bruce, Felix, and the team were responsive throughout the project and easy to work with. Overall, we're very happy with the quality of the work and would definitely recommend First Tier Exterior.
