TLDR: I'm a building enclosure engineer for commercial buildings and I strongly recommend *against* hiring Sierra Roofing. We hired Sierra Roofing to replace our entire roof for ~$30,000. Not only did they do an awful job - nothing nailed down around skylights, lack of communication, no photos or videos showing progress or completion, having to repeatedly ask for annual warranty inspections, etc - but one of their guys stepped through the roof and into the interior (luckily he did not fall in). When I asked what happened he said he was being careless and accidentally stepped through. Ok things happen, they repaired the roof and then sent a guy to fix the ceiling inside. I asked him which colour paint he was using and to make sure it matches the ceiling. He had the audacity to tell me (the homeowner) that it's none of my business which paint he's using!! Of course I kicked him out immediately. Today I have another roofing company repairing a damaged skylight and all the other things Sierra left undone. Not only is the new roofer thorough, but they have sent photos and videos throughout to update me even though I am right here inside the house. read more

In 2020 we hired Sierra Roofing and Solar to replace our roof and add a solar system including backup batteries. They did a great job. So, when I moved into a new home without solar I called them again. They also did a great job with our new Enphase solar system, including backup batteries, and an EV charger. The team led by Alex Padilla, with Carlos and Francisco, were great to work with. Carlos and Francisco worked in very hot conditions and still got the job done quickly and accurately. One of the things I love about Sierra installing solar is that they are also roofing experts. They are very careful about the roof integrity. Plus, they route the wiring through the attic so there are no ugly wires visible on the rooftop ... just clean, neat solar panels. Never hire a solar company that isn't also a roofing company. By coincidence, just days after going live we experienced a grid failure. The backup batteries kicked in so fast we hardly noticed that we had lost grid power! read more

I was so impressed with Sierra Roofing throughout the process, and their pricing was very fair. I was required by my homeowners insurance to get my house completely re-roofed, and on a deadline, in order to have my insurance renewed, and this was during the rainy season/busy season. When I called for an estimate they were able to come out within a few days. I had 5 roofers give estimates, and by far the Sierra Roofing estimator, Francis, was the most thorough, patient, and professional. We even had a Zoom meeting the next day so he could show me photos, discuss the work that had to be done, and go over various options depending on my budget. Once I decided on Sierra Roofing, they kept me updated on the start date of my project, which kept moving because of the rain, all the time being sensitive to my looming deadline. I have a flat roof, which was the main project, but also a portico over my porch which had a leak and required rebuilding the terracotta tile roof there. When the work started, the team, led by Emiliano, kept the area clean and let me know how it was going. David was the project manager and called me at the end of the day each day to keep me posted on the status of the job. They finished on time, and even painted the trim of the flashing so it would blend in with my house. The terracotta portico looks fantastic. We chose Sierra Roofing and Solar to do both our roof and solar projects. Saeng and his crew did a wonderful job replacing our roof. His communication during the process was timely and very helpful. We are very pleased with the results. If you can get Saeng to oversee your roofing project, you would be fortunate. The installation of the solar system was great. The project manager Alex is a likeable fellow. However, he dropped the ball a few times taking weeks longer than needed to complete the solar alarm system. Sierra helped us with roof leaks two years in a row when we had issues due to major storms. Both times them were prompt and effective with their repairs. The first time we called them was for a second opinion after another roof repair company suggested that we have to do major repairs on the entire roof, but Sierra correctly identified that the problem was actually much more specific damage that could be repaired for significantly cheaper. The second time, the emergency crew was able to fully fix the issue without having to schedule follow up work. Overall I'm very satisfied with their work and pricing. read more

This review is for the estimator work only. Unfortunately, Sierra was unable to bid on either of our projects that Robert came out to estimate for us. Despite knowing immediately that our walking deck (the much larger project of 2) was not in scope for what Sierra would do, he made sure that I understood the pros and cons of what I was asking for and helped provide alternative options as well as potential risks to ask other estimators about their bids to ensure I wouldn't run into issues in a few years. Our second project was repairing a significant leak caused by a prior company's incorrect installation. He immediately diagnosed the issue, documented the current condition, and told me the things that should be modified (and even those things that could to further improve the installation) to address the issue. Despite ultimately not bidding on this work, Robert again took the time to review our problem and explain how he would solve it. it was clear he has plenty of experience in the industry and I wouldn't hesitate to call Sierra next time just based on this experience. read more

After the roof was finished, Sierra cleaned and replaced my solar panels as well as 3 skylights. All work was done quickly and cleanly. The price was competitive. My experience with Sierra started good - but has been ALL TOGETHER TERRIBLE. I do not recommend. Here is a summary of my experience: I received a call the night before the work was supposed to start from David - stating that they would not be able to start the following day - but that he would be sending more people on Tuesday to make up for the delay (I took off work for this - but ok) The following day on Tuesday- two workers arrived and began tear out of the old roof. This certainly was not more workers as described.. Later on that day (around 1pm) some more workers arrived - but not enough to complete the tear out I discussed with David how crazy my neighborhood gets with fireworks on the 4th of July (concerned of having a bare wood exposed roof) and he told me not to worry that they would be mostly done by then (Thursday) The following day (Wednesday) - the same two workers arrived again with no additional help. Later that day some more workers arrived - and they told me the whole thing had to be covered by the following day. By "covered" I didn't realize that they meant the PVC, but they worked some overtime to get this done. Due to this rush, the work was hurried and sloppy, uneven cuts and poor measurements. This in turn left huge areas exposed, unsealed - and the following mornings allowed for significant condensation moisture to enter underneath the newly laid - but unfinished and unsealed product. Unbelievable. Following the 4th of July (Friday) several workers showed up did some construction and made what appeared to be some some significant progress - but then they all left at 2:20. I was previously told by David that the workers would be coming Saturday to finish the job. They never came and I never received a call from anyone. I finally sent a text and left a message with David around 11am - and he tells me that nobody will be coming... apparent car trouble... but still, would have been nice to be informed of this... and now even more concerning that I now have several days of accumulated condensation water entering under the unfinished roof. In addition to all of this, in the contract with Sierra, there is specific language about material being placed down prior to work, that the representative will walk through the ensure everything is in place before the work begins - etc. NONE of this ever happened. They appear to have brought the protective plastic for this, but never put it down. Perhaps it's because they were overwhelmed as it was only the two of them. As a result, debris fell all over the place - into plants, into the French drain gravel - and onto the schools property next door. The did use a blower to clean a lot of this, but the small rocks and tar that fell into the French drain will be pretty impossible to get out. While I was on the property, I had to point out several areas that the workers had overlooked (gravel left in cracks on porch cover roof) that, had I not been present, would have been sealed in permanently. I have to say - this has been one of the most infuriating and expensive experiences in my life as a consumer. Again - I DO NOT RECOMMEND. read more

---FOLLOW UP--- An update to my previous experience which I posted a week ago. Before I begin, I want to say, how people respond after making a mistake speaks volumes on who they are. Do the own up to their mistakes? Do they properly apologize? Do they take care of the issue at hand? And a bonus really is if they take the time to explain to you what happened. The owners reached out to me fairly quickly after my review, as well as the project manager (who was unaware of my negative feedback until later on).. Without getting too into the weeds, Jeff, one of the business partners emailed me and apologized graciously. He assured me that they will connect internally and make this situation right. He asked me to give them another shot and they would do whatever it took to earn my business. But David the project manager called me to get information on the issue I was having and apologized for the delay (unknowingly about the feedback I had left). He told me he would reach out to their skylight vendor regarding my issue and see what he could do. He called me back later that day with a resolution to replace the skylights with an upgraded model which was warrantied by the supplier and they covered the labor charged. They came back and did the work with a great attitude and apologized again in person. Later that evening, Sean, the General Manager/Business Partner called me and asked to get my feedback. He wanted to hear it straight and understand their shortcomings so they could learn and improve from this interaction. It was a very pleasant call, he was very attentive and listened and shared what he felt they should have done from the start and their philosophy on the business. He was utterly shocked from my feedback and apologized as well. In short, yes they screwed up... but we're human. We all make mistakes. But they took the time to follow up, learn from their mistakes and took the feedback on the chin. No BS excuses (but they did clarify why things were missed) and promised to do better. We selected Sierra to replace our 60 year-old tar and gravel roof with composite shingle on our midc-century home because they were also able to manage removal and re-installation of our existing solar panels. This turned out to be really fortunate because Sierra is amazing. The crew foreman, Kevin, and his team was super skilled, energetic and communicative. They started on time and worked late and hard then cleaned everything up. There were several surprise safety inspections by the Sierra crew, also impressive. The solar team was fast, clean, and was able to remove the solar in 1/2 and re-install and update the solar system in another day once the roofing was complete. Project management was clear from the beginning and we felt they were definitely on top of things even when the unexpected came up. We had to replace several custom Douglas fir 2x6 T&G boards in our ceiling and those are hard to find but Sierra was able to get the work done and do it well. This was more than a simple re-shingle as it involved removing and replacement of the foam insulation sheets on the roof and building up of a new roofing platform to change the roof from a membrane tar and gravel to shingle. Because we used Sierra for everything instead of using a separate solar company Sierra stands behind all the work including the solar panel mounts on the roof. read more

Although the start of project was delayed due to the large demand for their services and the winter weather, once the project began, the workers moved quickly and steadily to complete the job in 8 days. The workers protected my garden plants and there was no damage to my plants or property. Julio Magallunes was a skilled, kind and considerate project manager and the roofers were very hard working and careful including Kevin Duarte, Fernando Duarte, and Octavio Perez. I wanted to write this update to express my frustration with the whole process of getting this roof done. From the beginning I have had many instances of poor communication and miscommunication about many different parts of the process. I feel that a company that states on the front page of their website that the are invested in my satisfaction, the have done little to act on my complaints during the process and I just want you to know how dissatisfied I am about the whole process. I want to get out of the way early that none of my complaints are about the crew that did the work or the quality of the work itself, at least from what I can see and from what I can tell that is all good work done by skilled people that deserve to be supported by better people that communicate to their customers better. From the point I decided to move forward with them, I feel that I have been made promises of communication that have failed to materialize. I was told after I made my deposit payment that I would be informed of when my project would be added to the schedule and an approximate timeline of when the project would start. I signed the contract and made the deposit in May. I reached out after and did not hear back from anyone until I poked a stick a stick, multiple times, two weeks later when I was quoted an August start date. Then with no ongoing updates about where I was in the production pipe line I was informed at the beginning of July that I must have been at the end of the month on the schedule and was pushed into September, it was done so in a form letter style email that really came off as not a personal touch I would expect from a company that is charging the premium that they do. I reached out to complain about the issues after this and was promised more and better communication about the project. I received none. In August I once again had to poke a stick to get any kind of communication about exactly when my project was scheduled to start, as I was only given the month of September. I was called by the office to be told that the project was scheduled to start with the solar removal on 8/26 and the roof to be removed starting either Wednesday or Thursday of that week, depending on the previous job and that someone would be in touch if there was a delay. I took the morning of the 26th off of work to make sure I was there to greet the workers and make sure they knew where all the equipment was and to answer any questions. No one showed up and when I called the office I was informed that I wasn't even on the schedule. They would have someone out the following day to do the work. Later that day I was called by the person in charge of the solar team and he asked to come by to look at the solar in the evening to make the plan for the solar removal as he had just learned about my project, THREE MONTHS after I had been added to the que. He did not mention anything about timing for the project and I continued to believe what the office had told me, that someone would be at my house the next day. I again took that morning off of work to be there. No one showed up. I reached out to the solar manager, and he said that his guys weren't coming today. So I again took the Wednesday morning off of work, that morning about 30 minutes after the window I was given for them to arrive I got a call from the project foreman telling me the whole project was pushed until the following week. I was not very excited that three days in a row my time was wasted. The workers to remove the solar then showed up at my house 20 minutes later, as no one had communicated with them that the project had been postponed. The project then went forward the next week, when they showed up I reiterated the couple of small requests that I had made when I originally got the quote for the roof. (I wanted a solar tube added in a bathroom and a vent added for an exhaust fan that was venting improperly in the primary bathroom) No one had passed the info along to them, even though I had reiterated my request through multiple emails with the office. I was not surprised at all by this, as the communication the whole time has been consistently terrible. After the work was finished, I was told that the solar would be reinstalled the following Tuesday. That was also pushed back by a day, but was communicated to me the day before it was supposed to start so there were no issues. That install took a couple of days and I was very busy with work, so I was not around the house much while they were there. After they were finished I heard absolutely nothing from anyone in at company for two and a half weeks. The solar manager reached out and said that there were some clips that needed to be ordered and he said that the guys would come over to install them. After that, again crickets for weeks. Eventually, when they wanted to get paid they reached out to get me the permit card and a final invoice. read more
