I hired these guys for a roof repair which only lasted a couple years before it began leaking again. I called them again several years later, thinking it would be convenient since they were the ones that did the work. They yanked me along for several months, just to eventually tell me to look for another company. Unless you're doing a big roofing job, don't bother. They will rope you along and tell you this and that, only to tell you to look for another company later down the line. Norm sent someone out on a rainy Saturday morning to put in a temporary patch to stop the rain from dripping onto the stove. Gave us accurate information about scheduling the roof replacement. Reasonable cost, especially considering that one section turned out to have FOUR layers of old roofing - double was supposed to be allowed. I would definitely use them again. read more

Had a roof done by Elliott and Son in 2002 great service and they even gave us jobs they did so we could check colors, etc. Used them again in 2019 and big change they act like we were bothering them. Recently I noticed 1 gutter holds 1/4 inch standing water, not sloped correctly. I have called twice and was told Norm the owner would get back to me. No one got back to me. I am willing to pay for repair, they are apparently not interested and have plenty of work. Don't waste your time with these people. This is a very late entry. My sincere apologies to Elliott and Son Roofing: to Norm and his entire crew. Thank you for all that you do. My experience with Elliott and Son Roofing dates back to 2015, when the roof of my residence needed to be completely replaced. Elliott & Son Roofing did the job for me !! I have never been more satisfied with their crew/services; then and now. I have had no problems with my roof, but in my mind I know, too, that the company will always be there for me, if I need help. The type of roof that I have chosen, compared to other types of roof in the market were explained to me, which included the warranty, roof-life, colors, completion time, crew work days /hours, and cost of the materials/labor, which I found to be very reasonable. I made my decision and have not had any regrets. The crew came as scheduled and performed the roof job very satisfactorily, in a timely manner, as discussed and agreed upon. In the 8 years that I have been calling Elliott & Son for assistance (I must admit, have not always been pertinent to my roof that has been installed, but exteriorly-related), I find Norm to be problem-oriented, he listens, problem-solves, and demonstrates concern and attentiveness. He suggests solution to problems, sends someone to check out the issues on hand, and takes care of them. His crew are experienced and knowledgeable. I have never yet received a "no, I'm sorry, it is not roof-related" reply. Elliott & Son Roofing provides my mental health a very positive intervention, when problems arise. "ARE YOU TELLING ME HOW TO DO MY JOB!?" - This is what the inspector barked over the phone when I attempted to get clarification on a client's inspection. Never in my years of being in Real Estate have I had a "professional" spout off and then hang up on me. What a joke. Personal opinion, I'd avoid this company at all costs. If you yell at a customer, and slam the phone down when hanging up, can you imagine what they'd do if you had a quality control issue with their actual roofing services? We have used Elliott & Son on several occasions for the repair of our roof, an ultra- light tile roof. This time we were repairing fascia dry rot and a portion near the chimney that was sagging due to inadequate support. From my initial contact to obtain a quote, they communicated in a timely manner both by email and phone. A very seasoned knowledgeable person from Elliott & Son (Charles) came to our home and discussed and answered all our questions regarding the repairs needed. We did not want wood spliced in. We wanted full replacement of the dry rotted fascia boards. We were warned that the price of wood had risen considerably, and that they were scheduling out several months. They worked around our schedule. The work was completed in 3 days. The workers were courteous and respectful of our property. Again, we are very pleased with the work provided. This company showed up to give me a bid. Took two weeks to get the bid over. Said they couldn't schedule for 4-6 weeks and would give me a call then. Didn't hear from them after a few weeks. Called and the lady told me I had to wait 8 weeks instead now, on top of the three I've already waited, just to find out when they could actually come. Apparently they are so disorganized that they have no idea when they'll be available and refuse to commit to anything. If everyone's schedules revolved around this one company that would be great, but unfortunately that's not life & the lack of respect for other people's time is enough for me to go no further. read more

My wife and I love watching HGTV and This Old House. Holmes on Homes has taught us a lot about what to look for to fix around our house. One day we were outside and noticed we only had gable venting with no vents at the eaves of the house. Since we have learned bad air circulation leads to moisture buildup, which leads to mold, this is something we knew we had to address. At around the same time we had some rain and we noticed our skylight was leaking in the corner. Ok, time to get this all fixed! Elliott & Son were very prompt in sending someone out to look at the roof and skylight, provided a quote very quickly, and when we had the work done, it was finished in a day at a very fair price. After years of delay, it was time to replace 5,000 square feet of roof on my home and garage. I interviewed the five highest rated companies on Yelp who serviced Orinda and had more than 15 reviews. While all provided quotes, Elliott and Son had the most detailed quote and was in the middle on pricing with more detail and specifics on the job. With importance placed on timing, we signed a contract in August and the work began in late October (other quotes did not have availability until 2018). Elliott's crew that removed the existing roof was diligent and cleaned up well each day. The new roof crew was managing multiple projects, but managed to complete the job within a week of the original time estimate. My experience was professional and their work is first class. I recommend speaking with multiple companies if you require roof replacement as it is a sizable expense, but do yourself a favor and include Elliott in your list of prospective providers. They are fair, communicate well and the work will last the next three decades. read more

We made it clear that we were looking for an estimate to re-attach some displaced shingles. We have the shingles so didn't need to buy new anything. We waited two weeks for the estimator to come out. He looked at the roof and talked with my husband. When he sent the estimate, it was for total replacement of several portions of the roof and some of the specifics were lacking. We contacted him to clarify the specifics and to remind him that we didn't want a replacement, we wanted repairs. He sent back a more specific estimate but it was still for tearing off all the shingles on the parts of the roof where some shingles had come loose, and replacing all of that. Full disclosure: my wife and I weren't actually customers, and here are the reasons. The story: we tried to be. We contacted Elliot and Son for an estimate on repairs. They scheduled someone to come out and take a look. The day arrived, the person apparently showed up (we were told we didn't need to be there) and we waited for the estimate on repair. And waited. Two days after the promised estimate delivery date, I contacted the company to follow up. There was a one-day delay and then the estimates arrived in my email. While the estimates were descriptive, there wasn't a price breakdown on the work offered and that bothered me a little. The prices were definitely competitive and E&S does offer a guarantee on their work, so good for them. Then I called and asked for an estimate on a re-roof for a section of the house and were told that would be no problem. This was on a Thursday, and I was told an estimate would arrive on the following Monday or Tuesday, so we waited. And waited. And waited a little more. Come Friday, 8 days after the call for a re-roof estimate, I follow up with them again. Apparently more inspection was needed on-site, yet no one bothered to contact us about scheduling this. At this point we felt that if we can't depend on them to follow-up with us on estimates and assessments, that we can't really trust them to follow through on their work either. Since it costs us money to miss work to meet them during their working hours and they haven't proven themselves dependable in following through, we decided to take our business elsewhere. Of course, by this date the weather has turned rainy and so we're going to have to suffer through a bit more rain impact upon our damaged roof because we were waiting on these guys. Wonderful. So my review is based on the company's lack of respect for our time and situation. The work may or may not be good, I can't say. I don't imagine we're going to find out. read more

I had two residential buildings that required a complete tear-off and re-roof. Elliott & Son's bid was very competitive. I had several bids but each roofing company had slightly different approaches to the job. After asking many questions, I became convinced that Elliott and Son really understood what they were doing and they had a great understanding of roof systems. Once the job began, their workers were very neat and took time to clean things up at the end of each day. They completed the job on time and did a great job of cleaning up the entire site when the job was finished. I'm VERY happy with the job they did and would whole-heartedly recommend them to anyone who needs a roof job. I have been involved in 5 different re-roofs in my life, and Elliott & Son is the third firm I have dealt with. I have dealt with Elliott & Son 3 different times in the last 7 years, and it was the two prior interactions with them that made me decide to hire them for this entire re-roof. Our roof is very complicated, and all I can say is that now that the re-roof is complete Elliott & Son are rock stars in re-roofing. They changed several things on our roof to make certain that we would have no leaks going forward, they totally re-vamped the venting in our attic, which in hindsight was previously pathetic, and now we have a cool roof which reflects the suns heat and will lower our utility bills. They pro-actively did a lot of things I would have never thought of, but in hindsight were very thoughtful and the cost was money well spent. I highly recommend this firm. You will not be sorry--either for a repair or a re-roof. Maybe you will get less expensive bids, but the two prior firms I dealt with are now out of business, and I have two friends who re-roofed in the not-too-distant past, and both of the firms that they dealt with are now out of business. 27 Years ago Elliott & Son Roofing replaced our roof and we had such a great experience with them, that when we needed help again, we called them. After the October 24, 2022 atmospheric river, we had 2 leaks (related to solar panels) and decided it was time to replace the entire roof. Charles came out to do the estimate within a week despite the fact that everyone else in Northern California also needed roofers after that storm. After the estimate, Norm (the owner) told me that it would take 6 to 8 weeks before I could get the new roof because they were so busy. We signed the agreement immediately and asked them to come tarp the roof as another big storm was on its way. They did that late on a Friday afternoon and I was so grateful. I called 5 weeks later to see where we were on their list. Norm told me in all honesty that because we had so much rain in December, I was only number 10 on the list and would probably be another 4 weeks. Two weeks later they called to alert us to get our solar panels removed (by Tesla who manages them) and sure enough one week later (9 weeks from estimate) the team was there. Rueben, the foreman, was on top of the job from start to finish. I can not say enough about how wonderful it was to work with this company. They are amazing communicators, hard workers, and do excellent work. I never write reviews but had to for them because I appreciate so much the work they did. read more

Norm, the OWNER, just called me insane, laughed and said he was so busy that he didn't need my business! Wow, with an attitude like that I wonder how they are even in business much less busy. This all started about 8 weeks ago when we decided to get some minor repairs done on our roof before the rainy season started. Based on the good reviews for Elliot & Son here on Yelp I gave them a call. I was told they were so busy that I'd have to wait at least 2 weeks before they could send someone out to give an estimate. I waited the 2 weeks, the guy showed up, got on the roof, did his thing and was done within 10 min. The next day I got the quote for $450 for some very minor repairs. I had our handyman look at the roof and give me his thoughts and he said it was a bit expensive and that he could do the work for half the price. After talking with my husband about it we decided to go with Elliott & Son as we wanted to be sure that the work was done properly by a licensed and insured company just in case we had any issues in the future. I replied to the emailed quote within a day of receiving it saying that we did want to use their services. The next day I got a reply from Charles saying that the next service appointment wouldn't be available for another 4 weeks and that they would give us a call closer to that time. I replied and said we'd be waiting for their call. My husband was annoyed at the long wait for such a small job and asked me to give them a call. I called and spoke to a woman, explained the situation and asked if they could give us a call if there were any cancellations. She said that they were really busy but if something came up she'd give me a call. I thanked her and said that was fine and that we'd be willing to wait the 4 weeks if nothing sooner came up. I asked her if there was anything that I needed to do or if there was a rough estimate as to what day in 4 weeks and she said no and that they would give me a call. Seems strange to me that they couldn't give me an actual date but nonetheless we waited the 4 weeks for a call that never came. 5 weeks went by and still no call, no email, nothing. I gave them a call and was told by the same woman who I had talked to before that they were really busy and wouldn't be able to come out anytime soon. Frustrated and confused, I explained the situation and that I was told they would call me. She said Norm was gone for the day (3pm on a Monday) but that she'd have him give me a call. 24 hours later and Norm calls. He was not at all apologetic for wasting our time (we could have had the repairs done by someone else weeks ago) in fact he was beyond rude and cocky! He just kept bragging about how busy they were and that they had a lot of big jobs going on. He said they couldn't come out till mid December (my first call to them was in August) and that they were SOOO BUSY! At that point I was annoyed at them for wasting our time but even more annoyed by Norms arrogance! I cut him off as he was just continuing to brag and said that he was being very unprofessional and that I couldn't believe that they could have such little respect for a potential customer's time. That's when Norm started yelling, yes, YELLING at me and said I was insane, laughed and said he was so busy that he didn't need my business! El Nino is said to hit in 2 weeks so now I have to scramble to find someone to do these repairs in such a short amount of time. Apparently a $450 job is just too small of a job for Norm and his crew to take seriously. FYI- We bought our home this year so we planned to put off big repairs for next year for tax reasons. One of our big repairs for next year is to do a new roof for our house as well as for our detached three car garage. Glad I got to see their true business practice now! read more

I'm disappointed to have to write a negative review, but I'm not happy with the treatment we have received from Elliot and Sons. We hired them to take a look at a small leak. Norm said it could be fixed by "sealing the pipe." Had the work done, but when the rain returned the leak remained. When I called the company the receptionist said she would relay the message and have someone call me. No one called. After a month I called again. Finally Norm returned my call and the first words out of his mouth were, "there's no warranty on that work." Terrible way to do business. It was a small job that could have led to a bigger job, but I won't be hiring Elliot and Sons in the future and would not recommend their work. read more

Noticed that the negative reviews were either by people needing quick repairs to their leaky old roofs trying to make them last or by people having personality issues. Whatever. We needed an entirely new roof for our 2,700 sq. ft. one story home in Danville. Elliott and Son was the lowest bid of 3 bids received. They were prompt, professional and did a great job. The site was cleaned up at the end of each day. When there was a threat of rain, the roof was covered in plastic. Not a single complaint. Thank you Elliott and Son for a great roof! read more

We had Elliot & Son Roofing of Concord, CA, install a metal shake roof on our house in 2004. In 2012 I noticed one of the skylights was leaking. I rang them up, and Charles was sent out to take a look-see to determine if the leak was caused by a problem with the roof installation. Even though it turned out the leak was caused by the aged skylight, that another company had installed prior to us buying the house, Charles fixed the skylight to stop the leak. Being so happy with that service he provided, I later called Elliot Roofing back to have them install gutter guards. The roof looks great, but I noticed in early 2014 that it appeared when it rained, the water was not draining off the roof the way it should have, and was causing damage to the wood beams. This time the owner of the company, Norm, came out after I described the problem, inspected the damage, and took photos. Norm ran the issues by his metal roof expert. Francisco, and later called us to tell us he would find out what was causing the problem, come up with a solution to fix it, and repair any damage. Norm advised he was giving me "his word", that he would have the problem addressed and take care of any damage. I could tell just talking to Norm that he is a man of his word, and he wanted to leave us being happy, and satisfied customers. Norm is clearly a proud business owner that stands by his company's work; increasingly rare these days. Norm said that the only stipulation was that our job would have to be fit in with other existing jobs, essentially asking for our patience, which we had no issue with. Francisco came out on a number of occasions and replaced all the wood that was damaged from the drainage problem, and re-worked shakes so the roof will direct rain water more efficiently. Based on all of our interactions with Elliot Roofing, they are without doubt a first class company that goes the extra mile to leave their customers happy. I recommended Elliot Roofing to my sister, and she also had them replace her roof, and is calling them back in the near future to have further work done to her house. I highly recommend Elliott & Sons Roofing to anyone who needs a new roof, skylights, gutter guards or roof repair. It was November of 2012 when we were desperately looking for a good roofer to replace the actively leaking roof on the home that we just bought in Moraga. Norm(the owner) and Charles were very easy to work with from gathering the quote to finally finishing the job. Their price was most reasonable, they were the friendliest and most accommodating of the three different roofing companies I interviewed and received quotes from. Charles isn't very smily first thing in the morning, but kind and personable nevertheless. Norm's crew that put the roof on were equally great to work with. With some companies you can tell they just want to get the job done and be gone. Norm and crew were attentive from beginning to end, and they stand by their work. When we finally accepted the quote Norm had his guys working feverishly on my roof to get it water-tight(at least have the tar paper on) before the big rains hit, and the rains did come, but the guys got the tar paper up in time. From there they continued working even through the rain. They did stop when it got too windy and cold, but were right back up there when it was safe enough. We were covered, literally. What a relief! When the gutters and downspouts were installed I was concerned that a particular downspout would not flow properly to its dedicated drain. I wanted it directed closer to the drain. That pre-existing drain was installed at an odd angle. This is where other companies would try to dismiss my concerns, proclaim themselves as the experts, and claim that all is fine to avoid from having to do anymore than they have to. I received absolutely no push back from Norm. He and his guy came out to get a firm understanding of my concern and fixed the downspout to my complete satisfaction. They actually went beyond my expectations and sealed the downspout to the drain so that water could not splash out. There was another more cosmetic issue with the boards under the eves not lining up perfectly (I am picky). This most likely happened because the guys had to work through the worst downpour of the season. It's hard to work perfectly when you're cold and the rain is pouring. To fix this it meant the shingles, tar paper, and plywood had to be pulled up. Norm did not hesitate. His ambition was to get the job right. Again the majority of this job was done during the big downpour in November and December. I'm surprised that the job went as smoothly as it did. More importantly I know Norm will be there if any issues arise. I doubt there will be any, but it's good to know that he and his guys will be there. He's already proven that to me. He's got a very honest and genuine quality about him. I will not hesitate to call him again when I need another roof. Thanks guys!! BTW - I wouldn't advise having your roof put on during the rainy season. It was a very tense time for us. Now is a good time. read more

I give E& S actually a 4.5 and the only reason they don't earn a full 5 star is simply because of their communications. They need to be more timely with keeping the customer informed on where they are in the que. Other than that --- they are a full five stars for their workmanship. They handled our HOA of 12 duet homes and looks like they did a fantastic job of cleaning our roofs, removing crevasse debris, replacing broken tiles, instaling new rubber collar on our roof vents and painting the vents. A heavy rain came a month after their work and no one complained of leaks - that's big when it comes to men walking on 25 year old tile roofs. And to boot --- one of the units had a leak during the December storms prior to our scheduled maintenance work and E&S was on it right away to cover it and keep the area dry and protected until they could come out and fix it. They are booked so far in advance, it took us almost three months to make it up on their que....with all this work, I'd recommend hiring a part-time customer service person to keep up with emails and que notices on a timely and frequent basis. read more

I hired Elliott & Son roofing to fix my skylights, they had a leak into my living room. The fix had a couple issues during the first rain of season, so I called their 24 ours service. Ruben their foreman came to my house on a Sunday at 1AM to cover the skylights with plastic... I could hardly believe it, that really blew me away and proved their commitment to great service. Ruben deserves an award for that. Norm worked with me and we purchased new skylights as the old ones couldn't be fix, and he only charged me for materials, labor was on the house. I think Norm stood by his word and made things right, I'm really impressed with Elliot & Son Roofing and would recommend them to anyone, no hesitation. read more

Since then I've needed to call them for 2 other issues that needed to be attended to, and, again, they exceeded my expectations. The company just replaced the roof on our garage. Charles came by to scope it out, had the lowest bid of three firms. He also gave us several ideas on handling several sections of sagging gutter rather than replacing it. They worked very hard, took 2 1/2 days to get it done. Honest and friendly to work with. They were very focused on doing it right. In the end, we were very happy with the work but be aware that this type of job generates a lot of dust and debris inside the garage. If your garage is in the same state of disorganization that our garage is, you'll probably spend 4 - 8 hours with a shop vac. read more

It took me awhile to really read through proposals and contracts and also decide what type of tile I wanted to use. It was an expensive and important job to me so I wanted it done right. Although we had to wait a month or so we highly recommend Elliott & Son Roofing. Most roofers won't even do 'repairs' and just want to replace the entire roof. We needed a bit of facia work and a few tiles replaced. While we were on vacation, Elliott & Son repaired our roof. Without anyone looking over their shoulder, they did an excellent excellent job.
