Last year (July 2025), my partner and I decided it was time to look at engagement rings. We had dedicated a month to shopping around and learning everything we can about what we should be looking for in a ring. Ro Ma was the first place we went to. It was funny because Noelle was our Sales Associate and I remember her saying "Feel free to shop around, you'll be back" and she was not wrong. We shopped around mainly in Orange County, but this place had our heart from the very beginning. They walked us through EVERYTHING. It was very education forward and did not feel sales pushy at all. We figured out what size my finger was, we looked at what kind of bands I liked, and they put the stone over my finger so I would get an idea of what the ring would look like. Of course, they had the chart out that showed us where certain stones were ranking in terms of color, cut, and clarity. When we were done browsing, they set my partner up with a profile and provided notes on every little thing that I liked so that he would not have to remember when it was time to make the purchase. While I'm not too sure what went on between the time I went in and I got the ring, I do vaguely remember my partner telling me the jeweler (Eli) had a whole mock up of the ring on his computer to show him how it would turn out. My partner proposed in November, and I'm so obsessed with my ring. I get so many compliments on it. However, the story doesn't stop there! We went back to look for wedding bands in February and Eli introduced himself as the man who made my ring and he remembered EVERY LITTLE DETAIL of it. He even remembered the size of my finger! I was thoroughly impressed. He was very honest with us and said we could come back in August to buy the band because he wouldn't need 8 months to create the wedding band. I appreciate the honesty and it's not about making a quick buck here at Ro Ma. We ended up purchasing my wedding band in August 2026 with Eli and Tania. I'm shocked after a whole year later, they still remember us, my finger size, and the specs of my ring. Tania also told me to come back in before my wedding to get the ring cleaned up and she also said it's a good idea to have it looked at to make sure that the prongs are still looking good. This shop owner's reply is misleading and untruthful. I did not ask for or receive any appraisals. Also, he was not present and never spoke with me, so I don't know why he claims: "After your 5th stone had been appraised you were advised that there would be a charge for any further appraisals and made aware of our policy. This was after we had already graciously surpassed our 2 item limit." This is not true. * I did not ask for appraisals from this shop * I did not receive any appraisals from this shop * An appraisal policy was never explained to me (because I didn't request an appraisal) * I did not have more than 5 loose stones with me to identify, and I told them how many I had before they asked to see them (the owner implies I had more but they had to "cut me off" with a policy explanation which is not true) * I did not come in for or expect free services of any kind Identification and appraising are two totally different things. If identifying loose stones is something you don't do, the reply when asked is "I'm sorry, we don't offer that service, is there something else I can help you with?" Not, ask me to show what I've got, proceed to identify them hastily and dismissively, without any explanation of your policies, then refuse to discuss my repair / customization like it's a waste of time. Then the follow up? Lie about what happened and claim you did me gracious "favors". I didn't go in for favors. I went in to pay for expert identification, to discuss repairs to my personal pieces, and see your inventory. Nothing was said in the response about refusing to repair, straighten, clean my other ring. When you hand a jeweler a ring to discuss a misplaced stone, if they think it's dirty, they offer to clean it first, then examine it. He pretended to look at what I was indicating, but just said it was dirty and told me to clean it myself. My husband can see the mis-placed stone, which means so can this jeweler. Getting my point? I was not treated nicely and all I did was go into this shop to ask about completely reasonable services. I was there for maybe ten minutes. Surprised I feel abused? Does this sound like a luxury, high-end jewelry retail experience to you? *If you want to have stones identified, heirloom pieces re-worked, cleanings, repairs, customizations or to talk directly with a jeweler, avoid.* This is not the place for that.
