Myste Lounge - Hookah and delish white wine

I visited Myste for a private event, and while the space itself is very aesthetically pleasing, the…read moreoverall experience was disappointing, mainly due to the food and service. The lounge is on the smaller side, which actually worked well for the event and gave it an intimate vibe. The owner was also very nice and welcoming, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, that's where the positives ended. The menu is extremely limited, and you pretty much have to piece together a meal from a few items. I ordered the jollof rice and six-piece chicken wings. The wings were overpriced, overcooked, and had no flavor at all. The only options were sauces on the side (honey, ranch, or blue cheese), and when I specifically asked for honey drizzled on top with blue cheese on the side, that request wasn't followed. Even more frustrating, our server never came back to check on us or make sure everything was okay. The jollof rice was honestly the worst part. Instead of that rich, smoky flavor you'd expect, it tasted burnt with a harsh charcoal aftertaste. I've had jollof rice many times before, and this was nowhere close. I ended up sending it back. Because I was hungry, I forced myself to eat the wings, even though they were dry and lacked flavor. Overall, Myste Lounge has a nice look and potential, but the food and service really need improvement. A revamped menu and better attention to guests would make a huge difference.

Service was great considering the place is small, it's hard to miss customers. It's a small hookah lounge in downtown Laurel, so don't expect a ton of space, but it's still a nice little spot to unwind after a long day or make a chill after-dinner stop. Hookah was smooth and the atmosphere was laid back. They do sell food, but we didn't try it this time. My only downside is the drink menu, it's mostly wine and champagne but overall it's a place I could see myself frequenting.

This is a black-owned establishment and you would think in the Upper Marlboro area service would be a little better. I was planning to make this my weekly spot, but I think I'll find another local spot. Only reason I give it 3 stars is because the wings and fries were very good.

The place reminds me of a juke joint in a rural town. Nothing bad, but all I could think of is this place could have been a second location in Sinners. Located on the side of 301 surrounded by tractor repair shops, auto repair places, and an oddly placed church. We walked in and the music was pumping and almost every table was full. No cover charge, no security screening, no ID check. The smell of fried wings, liquor, and too much perfume/cologne permeated the place. What was absent was the smell of any smoke, which is a huge plus. The place is homey and oddly cozy. The drinks seemed to be poured appropriately. The cups are plastic but the prices were low even for top-shelf cognac so it was a win. My friends had the wings and they loved them. Almost every high top and low table seemed to be enjoying the wings too. We didn't play pool but it seemed to be several pool tables that were in heavy use. The music was 90s and 2000s Hip Hop, Go-Go, and R&B. Solid play list played from a system with no DJ. A few people danced, but most folks were just talking, chilling, and vibing out. Nothing fancy or pretentious, just a cool scene. It is what it is, a juke joint/pool hall. Spartan but in a good dive bar way.

From the initial contact with the owner, Bassam Medawar, the setup of the private dining room, the excellent service provided by Chris and the rest of the waitstaff, to the delicious food, it was a resounding success. They were very attentive to our needs making this event a very memorable experience. I highly recommend the Bourbon & Fig for casual dining, as well as any special events like birthdays, rehearsal dinners, and holidays. You will not be disappointed.

They started us off with baskets of biscuits and two different butters- it could really have used a jam, because they were like a fancier KFC biscuit, so they were fluffy and delicious, but void of moisture. There was no offer of a jam, unfortunately. I ordered the croque madame, which is a sandwich with prosciutto, gruyere, bechamel, and fig mostarada on brioche, served with a salad. Due to medication interference i cannot have vitamin K whenever I want, so i got breakfast potatoes with it. The potatoes were out of this world fantastic! The sandwich, I subbed bacon for the prosciutto, and it was delightful! A bit salty, but made upon the ingredients, it was expected. I always thought a croque madame came with an egg on it, but theirs did not. The shrimp and grits were ordered by several people and the consensus was that there were not enough grits in the dish, making it a smaller portion than one would think. There was also some confusion bc one person asked for no tails on their shrimp What he meant was no shell, as some places give you shrimp that still have the tail portion of the shell attached and now you have to dig them out one by one and pull the shell off. They were able to grant his request and he was very happy about that! The French toast was ordered by two people and they enjoyed it, especially the orange Chantilly cream that came on the side. Two other people got the Southern Breakfast and said the spinach was phenomenal! The chicken was a little different than expected but everyone enjoyed their meal! Our server Chris was nice and professional but still personable. All around it was a great experience, although it was a tiny bit quieter than I would have liked, just because it makes a lull in conversation more awkward. Either way, five stars!

Most of the time fish is a hit. But every now and then ( last night) to be precise, my fish was over cooked. I had to bite and pull with my teeth. By the time I started eating and realized it was overcooked, the kitchen was closed. The drinks don't always taste like what you asked for but they are strong if that's what you like. They have a police officer at the door most nights, which makes it feel a bit safer. It's definitely a cheers type of bar, everyone knows everyone. Music is old school for the most part, but they have a jukebox so the music can be adjusted. It's a nice hole in the wall. The bathroom really sucks. You have to dam near turn sideways and use the stall with the door opened. That's the one thing I hate about this spot. Seems like they tried to turn one unisex bathroom into 2 stalls. I'm pretty sure the men's room looks the same.
