Food Review: Paddy Kelly's - Peabody, MA…read more If you're looking for classic bar food done right, Paddy Kelly's at 154 Washington St, Peabody, MA, is a must-visit. From giant margarita towers to loaded nachos and hearty burgers, this spot delivers on both flavor and value. Whether you're out with friends or family, it's the kind of place where you can kick back, indulge, and enjoy some solid comfort food in a no-frills setting. The Must-Have Dishes Kitchen Sink Nacho Tray ($17.95) - An absolute steal! This massive tray of nachos is loaded with grilled chicken, chili, tomatoes, onions, black olives, and jalapeños, served with salsa and sour cream. Easily feeds four people and is hands-down worth coming back for. 9/10 Buffalo Chicken Sandwich ($14.95) - Crispy buffalo chicken with just the right amount of heat, paired with cool bleu cheese. If you're hunting for a great Buffalo chicken sandwich near Medford or Boston (seriously, where are the good ones?), this is a solid contender. 9/10 Smokehouse Burger ($14.95) - Stacked with BBQ sauce, bacon, an onion ring, and pepper jack cheese, it was a good burger, but honestly, the onion rings stole the show. Cooked perfectly crisp-- which so many places mess up! 7/10 Hit or Miss Steak & Cheese Egg Rolls ($14.95) - Filled with shaved steak and served with buffalo ranch for dipping, these had great flavor but were just way too greasy. 6/10 Pizza - Undercooked, but decent for the price. If you're looking for a great pizza, this isn't the spot. 5/10 Drinks: The Real Star Margarita Tower - Absolutely massive and perfect for sharing. You can't go wrong with this one! Giant Espresso Martinis - If you're a fan of espresso martinis, they go big here--definitely worth trying. Final Verdict If you want a true Boston dive bar experience, this is it. No frills, just solid food and strong drinks at a great price. Come for the drinks and nachos! - Food: 7/10 on the bar food scale. - Affordability: 8/10 - Ambiance: 5/10 (It's a dive bar--if you want a true Boston experience, come here!) - Overall: 7/10

Restaurant Week, as per the Salem Chamber of Commerce's website, is summed up as: "Participating restaurants offered special two- and three-course prix-fixe menus, giving locals and visitors alike a chance to explore, support, and celebrate Salem's vibrant dining scene." For $45 I got cheddar jalapeño fritters, a poutine burger (hamburger with fries cheese and gravy on top, kale Caesar salad with freshly grated cheese, and fresh, piping hot apple cider donuts. The burger was hearty, the fritters popped, and the donuts hit the spot but by far the standout was the kale caesar salad with the creamy dressing over crispy and crunchy kale topped with the tangy grated cheese. A Downeast cider washed it all down and was refreshing. I went on a weekday so there were a few people sitting at the bar with me but overall the place wasn't packed. What I really appreciated was the general manager came to talk to me specifically about their Restaurant Week food selection and to get my feedback. She was super friendly and I told her about the kale caesar salad. Parking is on the street and can be hit or miss because The Babe is right on Washington Street where it starts to curve around the corner. It's worth it to keep circling though. The Babe has different events each night of the week, including Jazz Tuesdays and karaoke Fridays. I had a great time at The Babe and I appreciate how much they support the local Salem community. I am looking forward to going back!

The chicken pieces were really small, and well done, so if you don't like that type of thing you would not like this. But everything else was awesome. One brother got the shrimp and pasta dish that came with a ziti, and when I took a bite, I knew that this was something I'd want to get next time. The other brother got a spicy shrimp appetizer as his meal, and I'm not a fan of spicy, but he said it was very good. This place is huge, and a really good place to go, especially if you have people with different tastes. The menu was quite large and has a big variety.

I loved the vibe and interior of The Tavern - it was spooky and old timey. You could see and feel the history of this hotel and it was awesome to experience. The dining room had a bunch of tables, but did not feel overcrowded. The Tavern is a great place to grab a drink and relax. It would also make great for a romantic date night. Good food. Dishonest pricing…read more I dined here yesterday, July the 4th. I ordered the fish-and-chip and a beer, and asked about substitutions for the fries. Among the many options presented, I chose the Caesar salad. The total for this meal? $49! (!!) The fish was listed on the menu as "market price." I neglected to ask what the price of roughly six ounces of fried white fish was at the "market" but discovered when the check came that it's $34. I'm not a fine-diner, but I'm pretty sure that 34 bucks typically gets you a much nicer dish at a much nicer restaurant. Charging that much for fish and chips is frankly dishonorable...but I guess it's part-and-parcel of the "get while the getting's good" ethic driving the affordability crisis in this country. Next, to the salad: I was charged $5 for the substitution, though the server did not warn me about this upcharge. Personally, I think it's understood when you ask about substitutions, that you are asking about FREE substitutions. If there's an incremental charge to substitute, say, a potato for french fries (I'm sure there is at Dockside, and I'd guess it's larger than it shuld be), it's incumbent on the server to declare it. Otherwise, what makes it a "substitution?" To summarize: nice enough place, greedy owners, OK but ultimately deficient service. Eat here if you want to spend $55 or so on an acceptable dinner that should cost 30 percent less.
