I read a lot of reviews here and on other sites about the gigantic chicken fingers, burgers and other fare and how cheap the prices were. Big surprise when we got there.....there is no kitchen. The only food you can get is pretzels and frozen pizza. The drink I ordered was a measured pour. Bartender was nice. We didn't experience live entertainment as we were there 6ish so can't comment on that. read more

Cool Local Spot All we did is stop in to grab a couple of drinks. The place is quaint and the clientele is friendly. They pour strong drinks and have cold beers as you belly up to a penny topped bar. It's difficult to overstate how much better Jacob's Corner Pub is than the previous incarnation, also known as the Panther Pub.. But I'll try. Last night was my first time in and had no idea what to expect. Walking thru the door,I was pleasantly surprised to find a great little neighborhood sports bar. Arriving just in time for trivia, my friends and I took seats at the bar and immediately noticed a cool penny topped bar with several flat screens built right in. Service was good but drinks were better. The menu looked pretty standard but actually exceeded my expectations quite a bit. The steak tip sandwich was perfectly marinated & cooked, and served on my favorite, virgilios bread! My buddy ordered a massive buffalo chicken sandwich with apple smoked bacon and told the owner it was one of the best he's had. The atmosphere had a great energy.. Inviting, laid back and friendly. The crowd was surprisingly diverse too and the new high top seating was a huge improvement.. With great food, dart boards, and plenty of flat screens,this could quickly become my favorite weekday place to chill and get lunch or dinner. Mike came back as a bartender, and he is a friggen phenomenal person and funny as hell. Jason is another strong bartender there (t-th) and he is spot on. They always make you feel like family and remember your drinks. With all the other bars in bev that are competitors, these are the important details that Jacobs pays attention to. Jeff, in the kitchen, makes some great food (pub fare) and it's always delicious. Only thing I don't like (but I won't take away stars for) is the fact that, for some reason, the owner seems to keep rotating pretty girls behind the bar, thinking a pretty bartender (that sucks at actually TENDING BAR) will help revenue...which it doesn't. Patrons come here to drink, not to hit on the bartenders. So if that's what you're looking for, FYI, you're ridiculous). read more

We spent 4 nights in Beverly a few weeks ago. My son and his wife took a walk the first night and found Jason's. Every evening after sightseeing they walked down to Jason's and I went with them the third night. I was glad I did. I ordered a specialty drink like a newbie and the bartender had to look at the menu to see what was in it. Then he proceeded to make the strongest drink I've ever had at a pub. It was excellent. Then I ordered a mushroom swiss burger that was fresh and hand patted with mushrooms and cheese on the inside. It was so big I took nearly half back to our place. The people in the bar already seemed to know my son and daughter in law. The staff and the customers were super friendly. When the check came I was pleasantly surprised at how affordable it was- way less than I was expecting. read more

I'm not the type of person who likes to bad mouth anyone...But... I was very curious to what the reviews would be on this place as I sat there.... Unattended for close to 10 minutes.... I walked in... And it was dead silent...Other than the annoying sounds of the video poker game or what ever it was at the end of the bar... I found it ver odd that they had the Sox game on 2 tvs... yet..No sound... The waitress asked me what I wanted..I ordered a soda.... And then she took off... I waited....And waited... Some guy came out from behind the kitchen only to hang around a little.. Not saying a word to anyone... I have the feeling the cook realized I was left high and dry... We made eye contact and I had to ask him if I could place my order.... ( I almost just left instead )... I told him I have no idea where the waitress went.. He didnt know either.... So I place my order... And it's still quiet.... All you hear is the video game.... The waitress finally comes back... And seemed she had a few friends show up to visit her.... So that was nice.... I guess my thoughts are these..... If you are going to call yourself a sports bar.... At least have the volume up so people can hear it especially if there's only 4 other people in there.. Or have music.... It was very uncomfortable silence...Minus the video game noise. If you want people to come back...Try to engage in conversation with your patrons..Or act like you care about them....Even a "how are you" or "thanks for coming in" or something.... The seats at the bar are all to close to each other...Not a lot of space at the bar. I have a feeling as I read the comments and anything more than a 2 star rating of this place could be friends of the place or something... All I saw were 2 tvs and thought if you sat in the corners..You cant even see them..So I don't know where the "lot's of tvs" comment comes from. I am just bummed out because I needed to get out of the house after a long day of being in front of the computer and couldnt even deal with staying there to eat my meal and took it to go. I love sports and was looking for a place in the neighborhood I could go to from time to time for some good food and maybe meet some locals.... I guess this will not be the place. Small pub, great alternative to the pickled onion. I was most impressed with the steak tips I ordered. Juicy, cooked just right and with a nice Smokey flavor. Can get rowdy at night but during the day it's laid back. Great place to watch a Bruins day game 5/5, no complaints here. read more

They accused me of trying to cash in an already cashed in scratch ticket that I literally bought there 3 mins before cashing it in. They prices have gone up since I've been there and it's always hot in there. Nothing has changed in there and the same old kids go there. I had stopped in based on a Facebook post I saw advertising all you could eat tacos today (Cinco de Mayo!) and after a long day and skipping lunch, I stopped in for a few cocktails and (you guessed it) the tacos! I almost drove past this place, it doesn't really stick out from the road, and street parking was a mess, but I found a nearby spot and walked in. Great music was playing throughout my visit, and the drinks were just strong enough to make me want more, but I wish there was more selection in this area. The menu was small, comprised mainly of typical pub food, and there were some great specials around the walls. My tacos were phenomenal, the portion sizes of this and other guests entree's seemed very generous for the low costs. Low prices on the food makes up for the $7 10-12oz mixed drinks and still keeps everything affordable while having a great time! Advice to management: 1) Keep your new bartender, she's fast, super attentive to your guests, and makes great drinks. 2) I really wished that your TVs had sound. It's tough to watch the Sox with nothing to listen to but the loud music (although your music is very nicely suited for the atmosphere). 3) You could really benefit from a more diverse cocktail selection, however keep that peach rum drink, that's spot on. read more

My girlfriend and i went there on a Saturday night @ 7:00 P.M. we have driven by this place dozens of times so i said lets try this place, it's geared to the younger crowd we are in our mid fifties they have big TV's so you can watch sporting events they also have a state of the art jukebox and darts. We ordered the Chicken tenders for me and she got the Quesadilla they were huge! and the prices were cheap we ended up taking them home we could not finish them there, after awhile the cook came out and asked how our meal was how many places to that?....we told him it was great but to much food lol......some people were singing to the songs on the jukebox they were having fun!!! i have to tell you this place is okay we will be going back hell ya! read more

Just came from Jacobs Corner again( been several times). I'm not fancy when it comes to burgers. It always amazes me how so many places can screw this up. Everything I like about a good burger is done here. The meat is fresh, probably ground chuck 80/20. The rolls clearly are delivered that day. It is obvious they don't make the burger patties way in advance just sitting in a cooler, they prefer to make them just short of cooking them. Cook it to my desired temperature. Mission accomplished! Clearly this is a pub, nothing fancy. I never had to look at an empty glass or plate. The bartenders I had were quick on their feet and were genuine when asking how was everything. But its more then just a bar to have a beer or cocktail. The food seems to take center stage. I honestly felt they didn't want me leave and when I did they wanted me to come back. Every time I was there I was engaged in a friendly conversation with the person next to me. Well Jacobs Corner I didn't want to leave and I will be back. read more

Came here with 3 friends a week ago to watch the Sox, have some food and a few beers. The place wasn't packed which was nice. We ordered a round of beers for the table and they came out pretty quickly, unlike a lot of bars that serve food and have tables, this place wa pretty quick. We ended up ordering 4 plates of food which we all split; Chili wings, nachos, mozz sticks and buffalo chicken pizza. All were pretty good, standard pub grub, but the buffalo chicken pizza was so salty I probably consumed 3 days worth of sodium in one slice. Other than that this place is great, will come back again, just won't get the buffalo chicken pizza. read more

A few weeks ago, on a Thursday night, my roommate convinced us to try Jacobs Corner. She had visited a few times will her boyfriend and stated it was "really good". After that night, she was no longer to pick our destinations, as she can't be trusted. It was a cool January night when we pulled up in front of Jacobs Corner. Parking was a breeze, which should have been red flag #1, a warning if you will. But we payed it no mind we hopped out of the car and went inside. Once inside we saw what appeared to be a cramped bar filled with locals and college kids. It was wing night and my roommate was excited for 39 cent wings. We found an empty table and sat down. We were then greeted by a very friendly man who grabbed our drink order. He promptly brought us out drink and mine spill (not his fault more my life). After briefly looking at the menu my roommate went to the bar to order. Roommate:"Can we get 3 chicken sandwiches and 6 BBQ wings? Two chicken sandwiches normal and one with just the chicken. Guy: Just chicken? Roommate:Yes just chicken and a bun Guy: okay He also stated that the wings would take a little as they were backed up and to order them in a little while. I think you can imagine our surprise when the "plain chicken sandwich" came to the table and was just 4 grilled chicken breast on a plate. My roommate was, how you say, not pleased. I also enjoyed a grilled chicken sandwich, or I thought I would. Instead all I could taste was the charcoal on the chicken, which mind you is known to cause cancer. My roommate ordered her wings when our food came and was very pleased when they arrived minutes later. After eating we were brought our 4 separate checks and then I received, what is now known as, the last straw. I WAS CHARGED FOR TWO DRINKS AND A SANDWICH WHILE MY ROOMMATE WAS CHARGED FOR 6 WINGS AND ONLY ONE OF HER DRINKS! I mean the audacity. I have had their dinners and found the dinner good. Nice size portion. My last two visits were for karaoke and drinks. Boring no one there. Felt like I was interrupting people's heavy drinking. I've only gone here once, and the experience was bad enough that I will not be coming back. Came here with some friends a few days ago and was quite disappointed. The drinks took way too long to be served. It would have been one thing if the place was packed but it wasn't. I've been to busier bars and gotten served much quicker. Also, the bartenders were not that friendly. I had asked for assistance with the jukebox (since it reads "locked, please ask bartender for assistance") and the bartender just looked at me with a "what do you want me to do about it" look and walked away. So if you're looking to grab some drinks in Beverly, I would recommend you skip this place. There are much better bars on Rantoul St. than this one. read more

Their food has really come along. The fried pickles, and huge chicken fingers are excellent. Our go to has become the burgers. Huge, fresh rolls always cooked perfectly. Stopped in on a Friday night to grab a drink and a bite to eat with a friend. The bar seating filled up quickly but the bartenders kept my glass full the whole time. I ordered the chili cheese fries and to be honest I wasn't expecting much but they were awesome! One thing I really liked is that the chef went around and asked everybody at the bar how there food was. Also the bar top is very unique it's covered in pennies. I've been to Jacobs a few times and have not had a bad experience yet. If you go with friends, it's a good time talking amongst yourselves or the other locals at the bar are friendly and usually strike up conversation. The crowd is eclectic enough that nobody should feel the odd ball out. The wings can get HOT so I tend to do a more mild sauce. They are very reasonably priced. Good drinks, good food, good time. The bartenders are friendly and attentive. The darts in back are fun too! read more

I went there with three friends (I am white, my friends are black) and we immediately were greeted by a man who very deliberately looked at our party and then at me and said "you boys need anything?" If I could give 0 stars I would. I've been here maybe a handful of times (or less) and every time it's the same -- it sux. The worst service ever. I always get attitude from the girl bartender because it seems like I'm always interrupting her time with her friends...but, news flash honey, your job is to tend bar, make patrons feel welcome, and give somewhat speedy service since it's never really packed in there. It's like this place is run by a bunch of kids pretty much. The only reason I've gone the amount if times I have is to meet up with friends... I've learned to stay far far away since my last encounter. I'd rather hang out at the onion...and that's saying a lot. My first and most likely only trip to Jacobs Corner left much to be desired. The tv's which are inside the bar are redundant and mine wasn't even operating correctly. The place was full of seedy looking people, and the steak tip sub tasted like it was fired up in a high school cafeteria.. Their menus are printed on green construction paper and the overall feel of this place screamed amateur. Their bathrooms were disgusting, and their bartenders seemed to be preoccupied mingling with their friends instead of being attentive to their customers. Please by advised, there are many great restaurants and bars on Rantoul. If you are looking for a dive, definitely skip over this place and head to the Onion. read more

Better than it ever was before, Panther pub, lighthouse (lol!), but just..eh who knows, I can't really say anything bad, for what it is. Only have gone once and it was nearly closing time on a Saturday so there was some chaos, but the staff kept it under control professionally. Haven't ate here, so no comment on the grub. If you want an alternative the other places around, why not, go in and have a few drinks. The jello shots are good sized, FYI.
