I didn't eat most of it. The ribs were overcooked, yet fatty, and the pulled pork was mushy and sitting in a pool of briny water - giving both the overall impression of boiled meat. The fries were fries - nothing special, but not bad. The vegetables were not seasoned and consisted mostly of corn kernels and shredded squash. The BBQ sauce was pretty good. This was really the first time I had a meal, actually in a way I still am. One thing that I want to point out first is that with every meal one gets soft serve Vanilla ice cream. The cool dude that works there during the day time, his name is Taylor. So.....what did I eat? That is a great question.... The Salmon sandwich, my only complaint if anything is that it wasn't a whole lot of Salmon. Either way it was still a total yums. I had the sweet potato fries and that was a great option. We had Roadside BBQ deliver chicken and ribs to a large (120+ people) picnic party. The price per head was very reasonable and they were easy to work with. I hate to give only 2 stars, but Meh, I've Experienced Better is spot on! The Roadside BBQ is 1. Expensive 2. Not that great 3. Very small portions for the price. I've had the BBQ chicken sandwich and a side of mac and cheese w/a soda and it was $13. I would expect more than about 1/5 lb of chicken (if that, I'm not good with weight of food, but thin and barely there) and a tiny, tiny, tiny bowl of mac and cheese. OK, so next time I go, I get the BBQ Chicken Salad. Meh. It really wasn't good and the dressing for the salad was blecch. I ended up using BBQ sauce. So, while this isn't the worst place I've eaten, I'd rather spend $13 elsewhere for a better meal. Decor is western which is kind of cool and there is a tiny piglet type trashcan in the ladies room which is kind of cute. I'm not there for cute. I'm there for a good meal and it was Meh. read more

Came here for a dinner meeting and was pleasantly surprised with the food! It's only a small place that I would easily have passed by if I wasn't looking specifically for it. I had the two way platter with the ribs and the brisket and enjoyed every bite of it. The rib meat falls off the bone and the brisket is very tender--just the way it should be. It should also be noted that I am a sucker for BBQ and I don't consider myself too discriminating...but this definitely hit the spot. My only complaint was that I thought the portions were a little small and I left wanting more. You do get ice cream included at the end of the meal, and that was a definite surprise and plus for me to conclude the meal. So overall, high marks for the quality of the BBQ, medium marks for quantity of food, and bonus credit for the ice cream! Happy Eating! read more

This is non-traditional texas BBQ. Shiner Bock beer automatically makes it scream Texas, I don't care who you are. Second they smoke their food with mesquite, which is mainly what Texans use to smoke their food. I say non traditional though because we never make BBQ sanwhiches out of ciabatta buns and we most certainly don't use slaw lol. Anyways not to bore yall to death, but this place is definitely worth stopping by. Get the brisket sandwhich... trust me. I WISH they would add chicken fried steak though, and another alternative BBQ sauce. If I didn't BBQ so good myself I'd stop by more often. I love the smoked meats here. They do Them right on the property I often get the family pack but you have to watch them on the sides. You are suppose to get the pint size sides but once I got the small single serving size. The real problem is that went the order is to go they only fill the pint container 3/4 way up. I have to take the containers out & check every time. The last time for the 4th of July I forgot & sure enough they were all quite short. This time we were feeding 4 people & we barely had enough to go around. Shame on them & always check. At least the potato salad is no longer fermenting. Come on guys how much $ are you really saving by shorting your customers? Go for the meats, make your own salads at home. read more

Came in with a group of friends who insisted that this place was off the hook. I ordered a half stack of ribs with some sides. To my disappointment, the ribs came over cooked and extremely dry. The sides were decent enough, but nothing memorable. Many in my group went with the pulled pork and they seemed to enjoy it a lot. This may be a choice based on their previous experience. The place itself is very interesting though with tons of little nick nacks hanging off the walls. The free soft serve ice cream is a nice touch as well. Very friendly service. Garlic fries are DE-licious. Sweet potato fries are also excellent. Corn on the cob is good too - not too raw, not too overdone. As you can see, didn't have any of the meat selections since I don't eat meat - but there was enough sides to keep me happy. Would have tried the baked potato with all kinds of fixin's and veggies too so you could make a meal from sides. Small beer selection that is adequate. My friends and I split the full rack of ribs along with 2 roadsides. For the roadsides, we chose mac' n cheese and sweet potato fries. The ribs were really good with their hot sauce. Very, very good BBQ! We tried the brisket, pulled pork and baby backs. All of the meats were very good. Top notch mac and cheese, which you would think anyone can make macaroni and cheese but surprisingly not many places get it right. The greens were just like my mamaw used to make them. I thought the service was great, the restaurant was very clean and the overall experience was a good one. Love the soft serve ice cream machine and sauces for a little sweet treat after dinner. I didn't really know what to expect based on other Yelp reviews but my husband and I really liked it. So much so that the hubs has to be working in that area again next week and can't wait to go back for another great meal. read more

I give Roadside BBQ a 2/5 because I recognize a lot of potential in this new restaurant, but the service was terrible. When my family and I walked into the establishment, the place was packed with a line up to the entryway. Judging by the line, we assumed it would be a fantastic place to eat. We ordered with a very rude cashier, who was not helpful in the least nor was he seeming to enjoy his job. He was impatient and short, making our first impression of the place quite negative. We waited 10 minutes for the bussers to clear the tables. With the amount of customers waiting, we expected them to be more serviceable and attentive to the build up of uncleared plates. We received water glasses, with one of them leaking, but we decided against having it changed just to avoid the unapproachable, grumpy cashier. After taking a look around at the restaurant (after waiting 15-20 min in the drafty cold), we realized that the same customers who had been sitting while we were waiting to order were STILL waiting for their food. There was a disruption in the kitchen during our wait; a disgruntled chef began yelling at a customer telling them he was doing the best they could to provide customer service. It was then we took our cue to ask our neighbors and found they had been waiting over 30-45 minutes. We cancelled our order and ended up moving over to a nearby restaurant. Hopefully they get their service together or I foresee it discouraging future customers. read more

Expensive for amount of food you get. Stopped in on a Sunday night to get some take out - brought home a rack of ribs and a small order of brisket with cornbread, baked beads, slaw and potato salad. The brisket was nice, but a small order is not kidding around - it was SMALL. We split the whole order in half, so only got one and a quarter slices of brisket, and a couple of ribs. Brisket tasted nice, not fantastic, but nice. Ribs were dry, stringy, and not that excellent, but the sauce was nice. All the sides were fine, and the cornbread was pretty good. Not terribly impressed with the food, but the service was nice. The guy that took our order was super friendly, very nice, and quite sweet. I'm from Berkeley, where it'sa PITA to find a good BBQ place that's open when I want BBQ. Lucky for me I was working out here in San Rafael tonight, because I got some Roadside BBQ and it was pretty good. I split a Q for 2 with my coworker and we got the pulled pork and brisket. The shop itself is 5 star, being clean, friendly, and well organized. Peter Tosh was even on the sound system! However, the thought put into to-go operations leaves much to be desired because the containers leak and they don't double bag a 20 dollar meal!? Finally, the food itself was good, but try it without extra sauce first because like a lot of BBQ places they focus on sweet, not savory BBQ. It wasn't brisket down on the Ranch back in Texas, but it was just fine. read more

I enjoyed the Spicy Texas Cheesesteak. It was a really good sandwich. I have eaten at the Roadside in the past and recall it was good, but not memorable. Their menu may be hit or miss. I'm sure I'll be back though to try out other menu items. Reading the yelp reviews and from my own experience, the owners seem to have had trouble hiring the right people. The guy who helped me was friendly but lacked knowledge about the products. I would appreciate more training and hiring people who are a little more conscious of customer needs. And then POW! They have delicious beans and mashed potatoes and gravy, and an absolutely insanely good coconut banana cream pie. Came here for lunch as I was craving BBQ. Ordered the Memphis Pulled Pork Sandwich with mac-n-cheese as my side. With a fountain soda. It took awhile to get my food and I ordered it to go. The workers were just walking around cleaning but never making the food. As i was leaving i haf to walk to the counter to ask about my drink also and was given a blank stare. When I did get my food to the car I looked inside my mac-n-cheese was barely warm and the bottom bun on my sandwich was soaked and broke when I went to pick it up. There was a ton of coleslaw on my sandwich and very little meat. Probably won't be back as my lunch was about $14 and I feel like I can get a much better meal elsewhere, bummer because it's close to my work. read more

I am a regular customer here, and usually have decent service and good food. Tonight I had probably my worst customer service experience. I came in around 6pm. There was one customer in front of me. It took about 5 minutes before I could place my order. I ordered the "Big Guy" combo with chicken and brisket, sweet potato fries and side salad with ranch. I tipped $5 for a To-Go order. After waiting about 15 minutes, I still did not have my order. I was waiting at the counter, and observed the order taker, expediter and cooks shuffle through several orders. They were all mixed up. It was clear that the guy packing the orders did not know what he was doing. Still, I waited and waited. Finally, the cook behind the counter asked what I was waiting for. I told him my order, and he said that my order got packed with someone else's order! No one would have told me, unless he had checked. No words were exchanged, I just watched as they put my order together. It took another 5-10 minutes. The cook handed my order to the packer. I was handed my order with no explanation and no apology. I did not check all the boxes, since I watched them pack it. I went to check the salad, and they had packed it with the wrong dressing. I told them, and they just handed me the ranch, again with no apology for the wait or for the error in the order. This was definitely an off night for them. I wish I did not tip them. The service was horrible. I'm not sure if I'll be back. read more

The pull pork sandwich was not all that good but maybe it should be called sloppy pork instead of pull cause it was messy to eat as some slopped on my pants when I was taking a bite of it in the car. At least it didn't land the seat thanks to my lap being in the way. The slaw in it was not even cold but I do like the BBQ sauce. I always like coleslaw with this type of dish, and wasn't disappointed in the coleslaw, not swimming in mayo. Good food, not amazing. If you know your way around a kitchen or grill/smoker then you can probably make equivalent or better BBQ. But of course you don't have to cook or clean up when you eat out. Particularly their ribs (both beef and baby backs) are lacking. I prefer the "fall of bone" style of baby backs, these do not and the beef ones are kind of tough. I do like the pulled pork and smoked chicken. They skimp a little on the side dishes for the prices, serrving basically a shot glass of baked beans and the 2 bite corn muffin is one bite. Great array of sauces you can bring to your table. I've been a couple times and I'll go back again, but only because it's the only place in town for BBQ. They are also very nice and they have a good bottled beer selection. read more
