who knew something so simple could taste so delicious? tender tenders serves chicken tenders, chicken sandwiches, and salads, with different options for sides. it can sometimes take a while for orders to come out, but the food is made to order and comes out piping hot! even when i've ordered delivery, the food still tastes great. - curly fries (5/5): great curly fries, which were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. very standard seasoning - garlicious fries (4/5): really good garlic fragrance and flavor, but i wish it was more evenly spread because some of the fries on the bottom were plain. they were very crispy and a little overcooked for me, but it didn't bother me too much because i liked the flavor overall - crunchy tenders (5/5): a really unique breading that incorporated sesame seeds. i LOVED the crunchiness of the breading and the sesame seed flavor. i was impressed that the chicken was so juicy, and the tenders were huge! - crispy tenders (5/5): a very crispy yummy breading, which is great if you want more of a classic tender. these were perfect chicken tenders, but i just loved the crunchy tenders more! one of the best things about tender tenders is the variety of sauces they offer! my favorite sauce was the house sauce, which reminded me of raising cane's. it was creamy, tangy, and peppery. the chipotle mayo had a creamy and smoky chipotle flavor, and the zesty ranch was the spiciest one. i thought it tasted peppery and a little nutty, kind of like a spicy cashew ginger sauce. the honey lime was tangy from the lime with a very slight sweetness from the honey. i liked the flavor but thought it was too watery, and i had to mix it since the honey separated. i love dipping chicken tenders in yummy sauces. and somehow, tender tenders makes them even better. these are some of the biggest and juiciest chicken tenders i've ever had! i've never seen another restaurant sell chicken tenders with sesame seeds in the breading, and i'm so sad i can only get these here. tender tenders is such a simple concept, but it's one of my favorite restaurants in san rafael! read more

Update March 2026- The level of food is back up to the old standards. The tenders are crispy or crunchy depending on your choice, hot and not greasy. A couple of the pieces do seem to be a little bit gristly but nothing I can't handle. I get the five piece and it's enough for two meals for me. I slice the leftovers the next day and add them to a salad - delicious. Overall it's still great bang for the buck these days. I will be coming back again and again. read more

The name is so simple, but accurately describes Tender Tenders! Fried chicken tenders are having a moment but there have definitely been misses. After being recently let down by the quality of Starbird in Larkspur, I was hesitant about Tender Tenders and came in with low expectations. Located on the outskirts of downtown San Rafael, Tender Tenders is in an assuming lot with the Best Buy Outlet. I placed an order through Uber Eats which had an even more limited menu! The place does have a few seats but it is probably better to expect to order and go. If I had known, I would have come in to order the sandwich! What I got: 5 Chicken Tenders with Three Sauces (4/5): There are two options for the tenders the original crispy which is your typical breading or their proprietary crunch which seems like a little bit more of bite. If I were to go back, I think I would probably choose "Crunchy" since it is more unique! These chicken tenders were pretty big and still very juicy when we bit into it! In terms of sauces, they had so many to choose from but settled on the house sauce, chipotle mayo and sweet chili. They were all pretty standard as expected but served as good pairings to the tenders. In terms of service, the food came out fresh and hot at the estimated time. There was plenty of parking when we arrived on Saturday afternoon. Their food is absolutely amazing. Unfortunately, their portion control is very unstable. The sizes of the tenders fluctuate as much as 50% less. They used to give a great large container full of curly fries that now is also about 50% less. It's so much smaller that they have a completely different container that they now are presented. To be clear, the tenders are fine. However, the service on my last visit was so poor that I likely won't be back. I tried calling them while driving home so I could order some take-out to bring home for dinner. After several attempts of no answer, I figured they must be too busy to answer the phone. I finally made it there, so I just went in to order and was surprised to find the place relatively empty. I went to order and mentioned that I tried calling several times. The guy behind the counter said "we don't answer phone" very dismissively. Ok, that's annoying and certainly not conducive to good business, especially since the place was relatively empty, but whatever. Anyway, the wifey wanted a salad so when I order one the guy behind the counter then tells me "we don't have salads today, no lettuce." Something they could have easily told me if they simply answered the phone and I would have pivoted to another take-out option, no harm no foul. But the person behind the counter was so dismissive at this point, I just turned and walked out because I didn't have it in me to keep dealing with this person. First world problems, I get it. First time, and really good! I had three Crunchy Tenders with one sauce, and Garlic Fries. What is surprising is that each tender is very large, like a full chicken breast. I've never seen that before. The outside was crisp and tasty, the inside was moist and delicious. The Garlic Fries were a large portion and very good. It's a nice clean place, with adequate seating. This place is incredible!! Great price and huge portions! I just only wish they would package their tenders in a way that they don't get soggy. They come in a closed box so the heat and steam makes them soggy instead of crispy and crunchy. We came to Tenders Tenders after my son's basketball game. We're not from the area, so I checked Yelp for suggestions--and they didn't disappoint. I must say, they're even better than Raising Cane's. Simple menu of jumbo chicken tenders with two choices which are either1 crispy or crunchy. They do have sides of salads and fries also. What's special about this shop is the 23 sauces. I counted only 22 but they might have included Ketchup as a sauce :). Second time customer in this take-out shack and I have always ordered online alternating 6 sauces now (Honey Lime, Honey Mustard, Chipotle Mayo, Sweet Chili, Basil Pesto & the House Sauce) but always getting the 5 Tender - 3 Sauce combo. When it first opened, they were cash only. Now, they accept everything and deliver via Doordash. Hubby loves this place. I don't understand the hype, like hellooooo, it's just chicken people! Everything tastes like chicken. I feel it's too salty for my palate, I've cut out salt for a long time. I even order fries without salt. Sometimes we have a strong desire for juicy fried chicken, but don't need all the extras, and we want it FAST. Tender Tenders is the perfect for this. If you go to their store and you get it fresh, it's the perfect bite of fried chicken. But we discovered that if you order it for pick up, you may not get the expected crunch you were hoping for. That's because they'll pack it up for you in a cardboard box (yay for the environment) but that causes all the moisture to soften the crispiness, and by the time we get home 15 minutes later, it's kind of a sog. Same thing can happen to their otherwise wonderful fries (we love the garlic fries!). Our plan of action going forward is to just drive to the store, order at the counter and wait the couple of minutes for them to fill the order. Then we know it wasn't sitting in the box for 10-15 minutes before we even arrived. If you're eating in (which we haven't done yet), then this wouldn't be an issue. One other suggestion... they have two types of fried chicken, "Crispy" and "Crunchy." We can never remember which one we prefer. I'm now pretty sure that Crunchy had a bit of heat, so our preference is Crispy. It would be great if the name actually told you what you were both getting (both are very crispy/crunchy). Or get some of each and then tattoo your preference on your chicken-eating hand so you won't forget next time. read more
