    Kid's bbq ribs meal
    Susan S.

This is a review primarily for the kid's menu--Roadside bbq is a convenient and kid-friendly option id you're in the Northgate area. I was looking for somewhere to get my daughter dinner to pass the time while my younger daughter was in gymnastics at Flying Dutchman in Northgate mall. We had planned to go to ounces outdoors, but it was closed for a private event. Two of the three other options are Mexican restaurants and my spice-averse kid won't try Mexican food. So we gave Roadside bbq a try. I was particularly pleased that the kid's menu offered some alternatives to the standard chicken nuggets. She chose the kid's bbq ribs, which came in a just-right portion and was not spicy. I had a chicken sandwich, which was also portioned just right (not the usual huge fast casual portions) and was also mild (I wouldn't mind a little more seasoning, but it was fine). Prices were reasonable. Inside, there's a soft serve machine with a sign that says "free soft serve--ask for a cup." So we did after we ate and were given small cups for just right portions of soft serve. We had our dog with us, so were happy with the outdoor tables.

What a beautiful building! I ordered a half rack of ribs, 3 cheese Mac n cheese and side salad. Then I saw the mini pecan pie - couldn't pass that up! Only one diner in the restaurant, so I was taken care of right away. I thought I would eat in the way home, but the aroma from the smoked ribs had me chowing down before driving away. The salad was fresh and complicated - with a couple kinds of lettuce, carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes, corn and I don't know what else. Really good! The Mac n cheese had a great flavor and texture - simple, just the way I like it. The ribs were super tender and had a nice char or bark. Maybe they were just barbecued, if there was smoke flavor, it was delicate. Mildly spiced as well. The pecan pie was very dense. What is usually a kind of soft custard, has a more dense consistency and almost a brown sugar flavor. Also very rich, as most pecan pies are. The dining areas inside and outside are inviting. All very clean. A lot of decor on the walls. I rarely work in this area, but Katie is from San Rafael, so we may be back!

Service was very good great family ambience. As you walk in it smells delicious. Food tasted amazing.

Have seen this place hundreds of times over 15 years but never tried it. Decided to today, Sunday, for lunch. I thought my sandwich was solid. Nice toasted roll, and a decent serving of chicken veggies and cheese. I typically like cole slaw and theirs is very ginger forward which I didn't mind, not creamy like other places. The order was out in a very reasonable amount of time and over half the tables were full. I'd come here again for this sandwich. Nothing was over the top amazing, but very solid.

Fried chicken pre fried and held warm and cooked in oil dirty oil

Wow- the manager / crew leader was very nice and that the star for the visit. I tasted the bbq sauce and it was good. I was told the fried chicken was a go to item and very good. I should have asked if it was deep fried to order. It was not. It was luke warm, dry and flavorless. The oil it was cooked in a few hours ago was old and the chicken was dark in color and tasted burnt. It was pre fried and held hot in a drawer in my guess. The bbq pork ribs - huge disappointment. Smoked ok but held warm and the tossed on the grill for maybe two minutes and the bbq sauce was poured on top. They didn't even bother to caramelize the sauce on the ribs. Ribs were not competition grade as they were way too 'fall of the bone' and lacked structure to them. Just mushy, and not real flavor. Not enough bbq sauce. Again, just poured on top. Bbq sauce should accentuate the flavor of the protein a touch. This was poor execution on various levels, and many of them. Salad are served cold and should not be served with hot sides I t the same plate. Disappointing. Nice counter person/ Manager. Poor food execution.

Review based on delivery. The bbq ribs are a must! Nice and tender where the meat slides off the rib.

Got the Q for 2. Not a world beater but does the trick if you're craving BBQ. Brisket and ribs were the best of the meats I tried.

It feels like a true locals' place where people come to relax, and I always have a great time here. Sitting at the bar is the move. Justin is the best--if you have a sense of humor, you probably won't leave without a few good laughs. Every interaction I've had with the staff has been friendly and easygoing. The owner is also awesome and clearly cares about the place. Food has always been solid in my experience, and the house-made pickles are a must. Great food, drinks, people, and atmosphere. I'll definitely keep coming back!!

They probably had really long lines before (or learned from their other location that always has lines). They now have kiosk ordering for take-out and QR code menu on the table. The only time you saw a server was them bringing food to your table. There is a water station next to the entrance. Pay with credit card if you order on the QR code (Apple Pay accepted). If you pay with cash, you get 4% discount and you have to waive down a server. Brisket was good. Baby back ribs were fall off the bone. We had a party of two, which we noted in the order, and we ordered a small size, which comes with three bones. They gave us four ribs! The sides here are so flavorful. The potato salad was great. The mac n cheese was so cheesy and creamy with white cheddar from Wisconsin. The dill pickle was sour. The B&B pickles were sweet. I would love to try the beef brisket chili next time. The sauces here are definitely lacking. Only the spicy BBQ sauce was good and actually had a spice kick. The eastern carolina and white alabama are not even worth tasting imo. The public restroom is across the entrance, on the same side as Starbird.

This location in greater San Rafael is a bit out of my way, but a recent trip to Marin was an opportunity to make up for the lost. Located in a business center, parking here is not an issue and they were not particularly busy on a Sunday night. We were seated immediately, noticing how clean and modern the two-story gastropub looks. The food menu is more or less pub food, executed well. Mango-habanero wings were crispy and came with two dipping sauces, both delicious. We also tired the pretzel, which is on a smaller size, so next time I'll take our server's suggestion and order two. It also came with mustard and cheese for dipping. All their burgers are more or less a la carte: no fries, but chips and house pickle on the side. The burgers were fine though, with smash being smaller, but a bit tastier than their signature Monk's burger. Simplicity is sometimes the best. The beer list is expertly curated with focus on other styles besides IPA, but I assume that Russian River's Pliny the Elder and Blind Pig are always on the menu, in addition to ultra-local options. For pub fare, Monk's Kettle is a bit pricy, which is not totally unexpected in today's economy-especially knowing the area. However, elevated food, drinks, and service quality usually comes with the elevated price tag. We might not be back next time in Marin, but this was surely not the last visit to Monk's.

I'm allergic to seafood, so my mind just goes blank. I can tell you that the meal was enjoyed. I tried the Club Wrap which was delightful, and added a side of brussel sprouts that were savory and a tad too salty, but good. They offer outdoor dining, bar service and an area upstairs as well. It's a fairly large restaurant with great menu options. There are two huge televisions which thankfully didn't have the volume up on. The server was very attentive but not overly bothersome which was a bonus.

This was a nice way to spend a few hours. The space is neat. It's as small, somewhat dark ambiance with the windows blacked out. So, you do loose your sense of time a bit inside. That's actually nice as it feels like you went somewhere/somewhen else for a while. We had a Manhattan and a Kentucky Mule, and, additionally, we had three different shareable appetizers. First thought, we ordered and devoured a really exceptional cheese plate. I know cheese plates seem a little meh sometimes, but this was really good! I would absolutely order it again. In fact, I would definitely go there just to have the cheese plate again with a drink, a glass of wine. We also had the three tacos shareable. There were three tacos that were stunningly good. Lastly a dish with some little steak medallions and a shrimp. Each of these was about two bites and the flavor and texture was excellent. All three of the shareables and the drinks were exceptional. I have to call out that, with the cheese board, came a little loaf of bread. That bread was really good all on its own. I would definitely want to eat it. I can still taste it. It was really good, but my wife, she's gluten intolerant. They offered, because she couldn't eat the bread, they offered to also bring her out some gluten-free crackers, so she got to enjoy the cheese board just the same without the bread. They gave her the crackers, and do you know, they just gave her those extra. They didn't ask for something more. They didn't do anything. They just took care of her. I really appreciate that. I have to also give a shout out to the Jessica. I don't know how she did it, but she was taking care of the whole room of tables I think. Nice. We ordred all three shareables at the same time and she thoughtfully said, 'do you mind if I course these out for you?' We said yes and she did. I don't think anybody felt like they didn't have everything they needed, so a shout out to you, Jessica, really well done. We're grateful for the service and the high quality dining experience that you gave us on a moment's notice. I hope we can visit again soon. And, especially we want to check out The Boardroom soon. NOTE: This is in a kind of older looking strip mall. Don't be concerned about that at all! It threw us off a little at first and we did wonder when we pulled in though if we were in the right place. Happily, we were!
