Service is extremely slow. Every time we go we wait longer and longer. 2.5 hours for dinner that could have taken way less. We waited 10 min to be greeted by someone and then 45 min for our dinner to come out....the restaurant was not even full. read more

Took my 5 year old while her big sister was at dance class. She loved the side order of mac & cheese and we were happy our served told us about chicken fingers & fries- there were enough for her sister to enjoy the leftovers. My wife loved the spinach salad, and a glass of Sterling Meritage. I really enjoyed the Ribeye w/ mushrooms. Interesting cocktail list. This could easily be a regular stop on Tuesday evenings and will definitely be in our regular rotation of Park Ave haunts. read more

Friends from work highly recommended this restaurant so I booked an 8pm reservation around 3pm on a Thursday for my boyfriend and I. We arrived around 7:50 and were told our table wasn't ready yet and would be available soon. We waited outside a bit and after realizing other guests arriving after us being seated first we checked in on the status of our table. We were told 2 more minutes at 8:12. We continued to wait outside and more parties that had arrived after us were also seated. We checked in again on the status and were told 3 more minutes with an awkward smile. It was then 8:23. At that point we couldn't help but feel very unwelcomed and unwanted as "others". We left a little after 8:30 when my boyfriend confronted the hostess who only continued to apologize and say "it would be a few more minutes". Instead we went to our safe haven Tapas on St. Paul. They honestly don't even deserve the one star. I walked in to place a postmates order and immediately got nasty looks from the server and host. Placed the order and the host just walks away without giving me an approximate time so I went back to my car. Returned after 20 mins just to be looked over by every worker in the place. Both host and hostess came to the podium but didn't ask if I had been helped followed by a waitress who gave me a second dirty look and kept it moving. Been waiting for 5 mins till I made eye contact with a server checking a table out. She finally asked if I was being helped then proceeded to do whatever she was doing. As I'm still standing here a large group comes in and is immediately helped while I stand here looking like an idiot. If you are not WHITE I don't recommend coming here because you will be ignored. read more

We had the duck wings as an appetizer. They are kind of expensive ($10 for 3 wings), but they were very tasty. I ended up ordering the chicken avocado sandwich. It was good, but not incredible. My favorite part of it was that they toasted the roll perfectly. Instead of having fries or the salad I opted to get the Mac and Cheese as a side. It was a $2 up charge, but definitely my favorite part. The person I came with had an avocado and bacon pizza. He opted to go with the gluten free pizza crust ($2 extra). He liked it and I did too when he shared a slice with me. Overall, I'd recommend this place. The food came quickly and was cooked well. The atmosphere is nice. One thing I'd definitely recommend is to make reservations. We are here on Saturday night and saw that several people were turned away because they were fully booked. read more

The food was alright. The chicken parmigiana was a bit over cooked but alright. The service was poor and not what you would expect at a place for that price. When we walked in the guy seating looked pissed and that he didn't want to be there. The server was not friendly at all and seemed pissed when we didn't want to get alcohol. Very delicious food, genuine hospitality, and fantastic location will make me return to Roam soon. We had mostly sandwiches for lunch, and they were all large, well seasoned and scrumptious - meatball, turkey BLT, chicken sandwiches were all great. The pizza got devoured. I had the steak salad with crispy onions & some garlic Parmesan fries. The steak was cooked perfectly to order; I think it was a better cut of meat like tenderloin tips, cause it was tender without any gristle. An entire grilled romaine heart was the crisp-tender base, and I loved it. When you consider that they donated a gift certificate to a charity, and treated us so well when we came in to use it, even though we were just a mom & four kids? I have now been to this restaraunt a few times for lunch and a couple dinners. The 2nd time I went for lunch the server recognized me from my first visit and remembered what I had for lunch and asked if I was back for the same dish. I was pleasantly surprised to be remembered since there was 2 weeks between visits and it was busy both time. I came to find out that gentleman was the owner and there is always an owner at the restaurant which you dont see a lot anymore. Cozy atmosphere in roomy dining room filled with happy customers. The food is affordable and excellent, which is a rarity in the Park Ave/Rochester area these days. The vibe is causal, but classy and cool at the same time. Can't think a negative thing to say about this restaurant. The pizza is great, and the entrees are fabulous. The cheese ravioli was super delicious and I loved my Marilyn's Kiss. When my friend had to send back his food, the waiter (technically the bartender) gladly took it to the cook and they remade it in a timely manner and it came back delicious. An Italian restaurant that caters to gluten-free and paleo diets! Who knew? There is something for everyone, except maybe children. I ate alone and ordered a number of menu items to try different things. I was happy with all and took lots of leftovers home. All the sides look wonderful and the entrees are very intriguing. Popped in here today after another restaurant cancelled our reservation. Several of us had the turkey special and the Italian Wedding Soup. The food was wonderful. The sandwiches had hand carved turkey and the soup was excellent. Would go again! My only critique was the 70s rock channel playing Led Zeppelin wasn't quite right for the Saturday lunch vibe. I'd encourage something better paired with the strong menu. Highly recommended. read more

Roam is an awesome little place. The Decor is very welcoming, and the atmosphere is relaxed and casual. The menu is very small, but it still has everything you would want on it. A good chicken dish a good fish dish and a great steak. The macaroni and cheese is also amazing. I've had two steaks there, and they are always cooked to a perfect medium rare. The service is great, and prices are fair. Highly recommended for a casual date night. read more

The kitchen is extremely small so they can only make so many dishes at a time. I waited over an hour for my food at brunch and the pizza was burnt on top. They should really let people know the wait time as I just wasted almost two hours at this place. read more

I have been to ROAM a handful of times over the past couple of years and have had good experiences but today I went for a drink with a friend and we ordered the "shared plate" which is a meat and cheese plate because of the new COVID rule. The meat and cheese plate came and looks pretty good except it got swarmed with bees. A family of bees. Literally landing on and eating the meat slices and cheese slices on this plate for a good 10-15 minutes. No exaggeration, we probably ate 2 slices of meat and 2 slices of cheese each on this whole plate. Our waitress did not come check on us so I went inside to tell her we'd like our check since we couldn't eat any of the food now. I told her there were bees all over the food and she asked if I wanted a box. She followed me to the table and proceeded to ask again if I wanted a box. No, I do not want a box for the food that a family of bees were eating. Our waitress said "oh I wonder where they're coming from". We were charged for the whole thing and were never asked if she could do anything else for us because we couldn't eat any of the food. Needless to say, we will not be returning to ROAM. Worst attempted dinning experience in years. Walked in the restaurant and the fish odor was so bad we couldn't wait any longer and asked the hostess to just to sit outside. 10 minutes later Amanda came by and slung our menus on the table without speaking. After another 10 minutes of waiting to get our drink order taken our vodka tonic arrived with sprite in it not tonic. Took another 10 minutes to get the bill paid. read more

I would not recommend this place. Actually, I have told people not to waste their money. I might even say this was the worst food I have eaten. My boyfriend and I were planning to spend a nice Valentine dinner today. Must be the Groupon I was using. Food was over cooked. The restaurant was empty and they wanted to sit us right next to a table with other people. We were their early and they were out of a dish. They planned a special menu for the holiday and it was not worth the $75.00. Will not return to Roam Cafe, even with a Groupon! read more

Just returned from a brief workday lunch. I ordered the half caprese salad ($8) and the steamed clams ($10). Also got gelato for dessert (pistachio and white chocolate). It was..."okay." I am not a huge eater of seafood inland, but saw a couple sitting in the window and eating clams when i was on my way to lunch at another place. They looked so good that I *had* to stop in. I was a little disappointed by the clams, which were in a very strong sauce flavored heavily with wine and banana peppers; not much there to balance out the acid. Clams weren't sandy as another reviewer has said, but were definitely a bit dry looking and mildly chewy. The caprese salad (normally my very favorite food) was having an identity crisis. The mozzarella is really yummy, but they were very stingy with the balsamic and the basil leaves. There was no olive oil at all. There was no salt. The tomatoes were pretty bland, too. On top of all of that, there were actual spring greens taking up the majority of the plate...which is NOT a strict interpretation of a caprese salad. Would have preferred more of the lacking items or more flavorful tomatoes (there is a reason restaurants should serve this dish seasonally, because winter tomatoes SUCK.) Finally, the gelato was amazing. No complaint there. Oh well, maybe one. They gave me a TEENY plastic spoon and didnt get the hint when I said it was REALLY small and kind of funny... All in all, I would probably visit again, but stay away from the more "fancy" foods and give their simpler fare a try. read more

The female servers, one is light brown hair, not sure if she is even there anymore, and the dark haired, Marie. How do people like this get past the interview stage, let alone get a job, let alone keep their jobs. I just don't understand it. Today I had lunch at Roam. Let's see where to start darling... smile when you see someone, especially if you are in the service business, especially if they are your customer. When questioned about not smiling do not get defensive, but rather apologize. Say your mind was elsewhere if you must but do not defend the fact that you are not greeting the customer and behaving as though you hate your job. If you hate your job... find another where you are not dealing with people. Just because you are miserable don't make us miserable. Give us the dining experience we expect and pay for. I only give Roam a 3-star because of the food, and that I like the place. If only it weren't for the snotty waitresses I would recommend it to my friends. read more

LOVE this restaurnt and they have the best arancini!. Right in the heart of the Park Ave district, reat drinks and supurb service! They have excellent food for breakfast (and they make great mimosas), lunch and dinner. The bartenders and servers are also some of the best in Rochester and when the weather is nice, they have a few tables outside which is great for people watching. The restaurant isn't very big though so if you have a group or are planning to go during peak times, make a reservation. read more

We went to Roam for our first time tonight. I have to admit the menu was very eclectic to the point where it seems this restaurant doesn't know what it wants to be. I expected casual Italian but items such as the prime rib sandwich and fish fry left me confused. However the prime rib sandwich with Parmesan fries was EXCELLENT. My husband had the diabalo steak over pasta and he loved it. My only complaint was the music. I would suggest losing oldies music and replacing with jazz music or even something with Italian feel. I kind of felt like I was in a juke joint. read more

I'm not one to post reviews but this particular experience was too much to keep quiet about. If all you've got is time to waste, Roam is the perfect spot for you. I arrived there today at 12:30 for a brunch reservation that was made 4 days in advance. The waitress didn't acknowledge us until 45 minutes in. We were not served food until 2:00pm and when we were served, everything was cold, burnt to a crisp or the wrong order was placed. It was terrible. I will not be back to Roam nor will I be referring anyone there anymore. Maybe if they had more staff on, it would be different. read more

I do not impress easily and have a selective palette but this place won me over. Everything I ordered was a new taste sensation... as hokey commercial as that sounds. I went for a mid day lunch on a weekday and was seated and served immediately but was told by the owner that they fill up on weekends and evenings due to their overwhelming popularity. This used to be my favorite place to eat in Rochester but something happened to the food in early Fall 2012. The food used to exquisite and simple Italian/American fare. It was balanced and spiced perfectly. However, their chef must have moved on or something because we had two equally awful meals in a row. The first bad meal I thought was a fluke so I took my family there anyway. My Father had to return his dish it was so over spiced (HOT spicy). My meal was over saturated with spices as well but not burning my tongue off. And since my Dad returned his plate... I grinned and ate mine anyway. I just drank lots of water between bites. I don't remember the main course, something expensive because we were celebrating that evening. I do however remember that my dish had a side of squash that I couldn't even touch. It was so drenched in some spice, maybe fennel (?). Anyhow, I couldn't even taste the squash and with my first bite of it I had to spit it into the napkin as discreetly as one can gag into a napkin and continue to smile. 2 stars though because the wait staff are top-notch and the wine selection is worth a bar visit. I just wish the food had not changed. It is a shame the downhill turn this place took and sorry yelpers, I am to much of a chicken to ask what happened. Different chef is my guess. an often overlooked spot on park ave. pretty good selection of food & liquors. staff is friendly & drinks are top rate. the bar is really the standout portion. This place is best for casual meals & to get a litttle saucy. LOL Choose your time to visit wisely though it can get a bit busy. Fun place. read more
