To finish Lisa's birthday weekend, we decided to visit Baiting Hollow Farm Vineyard on Long Island -- a place we've enjoyed many times in the past. We were warmly greeted by a bartender and told to sit anywhere. There were only a few people inside. As we settled in, a manager abruptly approached us, visibly agitated, saying, "I can't! I can't! I can't! This has to move. I can't have this blocking my aisle." He was referring to our dog, Minn-Erva who had just calmly sat down beside us as she always does. We had just arrived. The establishment was nearly empty. There was no obstruction or issue -- yet the tone and delivery were unnecessarily confrontational. Rather than allow the situation to escalate, we chose to leave. Sometimes when you're made to feel unwelcome, the best decision is to walk away. We won't be returning after this interaction. In hospitality, attitude matters -- and the way guests are approached can make or break a business. Thankfully, our day was turned around by the welcoming atmosphere at LIVS (Long Island Vodka Spirits) and Jason Vineyards in Jamesport NY where we were treated with genuine courtesy. Choose your representatives wisely -- they are your brand.

This winery has a little bit of everything -- great food, delicious wines, plus beer and spirit options for those looking for something different. The atmosphere is really nice and makes for a great day out. The service was friendly worth a visit for the variety and overall experience.

Great winery to relax with friends. Enjoyed listening to the band from School of Rock that performed at Baiting Hollow Farm Vineyard. Staff is friendly and the service was excellent. Food menu for snacks. Looking forward to attending future events.

This was my first time at a vineyard and I really enjoyed this space! As a city girl, it's hard to find spaces that are, well, spacious, like this. This was definitely worth the trip for me and I now have a new spot in Long Island to venture to when I need a break from the business of the city. They offer wine tastings, beer flights, live music, and food. There was a lot going on but it still didn't feel overwhelming. There's a lot of room to move around and areas to get some sun or some shade. I forgot the names of the flights I had but I would definitely recommend trying some with friends or loved ones! One of the ones I tried had rosés and white wines, that may have been my favorite. I didn't try much of their food other than their spinach and artichoke dip with pita. That was really a highlight for me. So much so that I started craving it after leaving and ended up looking up recipes! Overall, this is a really nice, relaxing spot to have a day out. Dress up and be cute! I can't wait to return.

Nice settings, decent wine, fun atmosphere. Guitar player who sang was good, played giant Jenga with friends. All in all, would recommend.

Love it here! Great vibe, great music great overall! Cant wait to be backSnacking foods were good- my fav is the pretzel- light crispy and soft and chewy inside- paired perfect with my wine!

Baiting Hallow is not my favorite spot across the vineyards on Long Island but one of the closest ones in travel time for me. There is a large tent outside to keep from being in the sun. The wines are okay. A normal measured pour for tastings but it is much more cost effective to split a bottle due to the pricing. There is usually live entertainment which is nice.

One of many vineyards out on beautiful eastern Long Island. I've been here a few times over the years, and this place (like the rest) just has been getting busier and busier as time goes on. There's a unique seating and QR scan system for ordering wine now to help accommodate the influx of patrons visiting. What was once a quiet glass of wine is now somewhat of a spectacle; but that really goes now for almost all of the vineyards. But now who's got the best wine is the question right? Baiting Hollow is ok. They fall pretty much in the middle of the pack; however it carried a high price point. Bought two of their more popular bottles that we paired with a cheese board. We enjoyed the experience, glad to have supported local business, and made the best of our time there.

Came here on a Sunday in July. Was very relaxing and not too crowded. Lovely sunny day to hang outside with friends. Live music too! Great rosè.

I was not expecting the great food we had in the environment we were in! Although a limited menu offering, everything on the menu was great, to the best of my recollection, our group did in fact go through the entire menu. We shared appetizers, both hot and cold, and the entire lunch menu. The wines were also a big hit! Service in my opinion was great and they tried to accommodate in every way they could. Bring your smart phone as the menu and the ordering process and payment is all through your phone. The servers deliver the food and drinks ordered and supply your utensils and plates. Food will come in paper thin cardboard containers. Would repeat again!

There is a place for everyone and for me, baiting hollow is more for snacks than for wine. The beer actually being the stand out as well. They even have a high chair! Which lets be honest a lot of wineries don't have.

Ask the Community - Baiting Hollow Farm Vineyard

Last time my husband and I visited in 2017, we were able to walk around and look at the horses - is this still possible now, or has this changed due to new protocols related to the pandemic?

Unfortunately there are no more horses at Baiting Hollow Farm Vineyard since they all found forever homes. You can still walk around the property with Covid protocols/spacing/masking in mind. Not sure what kind of weekend things are going on…

Kids friendly ? Any live music? Wine tasting allowed? Able to walk the vineyard during the covid pandemic? Outside food allowed?

There was live music when I went on a Friday. They have a QR menu you can order wine/drinks and food. You need to wear a mask if you are walking around.

Our instructor was terrific and was able to focus on the class with the added distraction of goats running around and some Yogi's only there for the libations. Thanks to our instructor I was able to follow her instructions and keep up with the class, not bad for a newbie. The goats were cool and did not get in our way most of the time. The goat handlers did a great job preparing the goats and handing out food to us to feed the goats. There were a couple of accidents but the poop easily rolls off the yoga mats. My favorite moment was when the goats were first released. Nothing like a bunch of cuties running towards you. They were so friendly and adorable, and very chill about being pet. As much as I'm not a yogi, the class from Cocomotion was fairly easy to follow, and the instructor was extraordinarily knowledgeable and patient. I liked that she brought an upbeat playlist that included some pop music. Made it much more fun to follow. The biscuits from Main Road Biscuit Co. were incredible, as is everything they make. The honey butter and peach jam took them above and beyond. The LIV distillery was a bit of a let down for me today. They didn't seem too thrilled to have us there- the bartenders were extremely unfriendly. I've had pleasant experiences here before, so was really shocked at the shift in hospitality. Additionally, the Bloody Marys were eh. Long Island Spirits makes an amazing Bourbon, so I'd been hoping for a drink option involving that. Overall, super cool event. I laughed all morning, which was much needed. I pet lots of goats. And I got a sweet Yelp swag bag. What more could you ask for?

Wine country is probably the only or at least one of the few things I like about LI. LI beaches are dirty and face side ways so you can't do any "true" surfing there. Many of the towns are clone like. But wine country is unique. I am not going to compare it to California wine country as California wine country is obviously the top in the country. If you type in anything like top wine country in the US only Sonoma and Napa come up. The other wine countries in the US are as follows- West Coast - The majority of American wine production occurs in the states of California, Washington and Oregon. Rocky Mountain Region - Notably Idaho and Colorado Southwestern United States - Notably Texas and New Mexico Midwestern United States - Missouri, Illinois and Minnesota Great Lakes region - Notably Michigan, northern New York and Ohio East Coast of the United States - Notably New Jersey, New York State, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and North Carolina What makes LI a good wine producing region is Long Island, an island is an island sticking out 100 miles into the Atlantic Ocean, is a maritime region with a unique combination of climate, soil characteristics and growing conditions ideal for quality wine grape production. It's sandy soils and maritime climate have provided long growing seasons and mild winters, which has encouraged the planting of Europe's noble vinifera grapes on almost all acres planted. The first commercial vineyard was planted in Cutchogue on the North Fork of Long Island in 1973. Seventeen acres were planted by Alex and Louisa Hargrave, who are considered to be the founders of Long Island's modern day wine industry. There are 33 licensed wine producers on Long Island: 28 on the North Fork 3 on the South Fork 1 elsewhere in Suffolk County 1 in Nassau County It has been said by many that Long Island is one of the country's most exciting wine producing regions today, with great reviews and high praise found in major food and wine publications nationwide. As the awards continue to accumulate, Long Island wines are increasingly sought after in fine restaurants and wine shops from coast to coast. I would suggest touring wine country in one of the many bus or limousine tours. The reason is there seems to be so many accidents out there. You want to do it in a safe manner. The whole idea of pub crawls started in England and it not a NYC thing at all so I laugh at "hipsters" who want to do pub or bar crawls in the city. They are usually transplants or people from Long Island who don't know any better . A better idea would be to do a tour of the wineries in LI. There are also memberships at most of the wineries and events with music and wine and cheese tasting events. Most of the wine tasting events are about $5.oo per winery. You usually get 4 or 5 tastes for that price. But the wines you get for that price are usually their low end wines and you have to pay a higher price for higher quality wines. Discover why experts are saying "the enchanted East End of Long Island has become one of the world's great vineyard regions." David Rosengarten, Food TV personality, cookbook author and food & wine writer, 2004. My favorite vineyard is Duck Walk. I first discovered Duck Walk wines at one of the finer restaurants in Manhattan. It was either The Four Seasons or Aureole. I do not remember which. But I do know it was one of those restaurants and that is what peaked my interest in Long Island wines. If you live in New York City, Long Island or on the East Coast this is a fun day trip. You can pick up gift wines for friends, clients and family. Every person I have given Long Island wines to has been impressed. I am grateful to the person who was the first to review wine country because although I went and took many pictures as you can tell I do not remember which pictures belong to which wineries that is why they are not labeled. The reason I do not remember which pictures belong to which wineries is obvious. Don't do wine tasting to get drunk. That is idiotic. Wait until you grow up if that is the case. But when you grow up do visit wine country in Long Island.

For those of us who have been to Napa and Sonoma, Long Island Wine Country is a little bit in the…read moreupset side... However, now that I live in New York, I do have to support my 'people'... There is much to be learned by these wineries... from membership and activities, to events to wine making... Sorry, for the last one, but some wineries really made bad wines. I do hope the learning curve is still on the way up and has not reached the 'peak' yet. Lets start with getting there. Route 25/Main Road is a one small, two lane road; which is the same as California. Have lots of patience while driving as people, limos and buses flock in and out of wineries and farms.. this is what makes the traffic very heavy on this tiny road on the weekends. If I have a choice, I would go back on a weekday to avoid the crowds. There are plenty of limo and bus tours you can take, specially if you want to do some tasting hoping and let the driving to someone else. Then you can really enjoying having a little extra wine here and there... and make sure that the bus you are in has a bathroom as we saw one too many limos stopping on the side of the road with people running to go behind the bushes... men and women alike... In addition, on weekends, most of the wineries do have live music and seems that a lot of groups and locals come for a bottle of wine with their own food and picnic baskets. Some of the wineries were full to capacity and we had to skip some due to a lack of parking and tables... darn! And my final comment: The Long Island Wineries need to learn from the California wineries when it comes to attracting and keeping the clientele. Wineries in California have joined forces and created "group memberships" for those who like to visit them frequently where they get free tastings, visits and admission to special events. In exchange, the member is required to buy a bottle a month or more... depending on the type of membership. This also allows the member to bring a guest for a free wine tasting and discount on purchases. California wineries do have other individual memberships that offer the member access to free wine tastings and events. The member is required to buy a case of wine a quarter... it is a win-win marketing scheme that could work for these wineries if they get together and create joint and individual membership plans. Finally, for those staying in hotels around the area, complimentary wine tasting cards should be given, hence bringing more tourism dollars into the state. Much more to be learned... just look "West" for some advice...
