I had a great experience here when looking for a tasty coffee shop to get some work done while on vacation in Richmond. I ordered an Iced Matcha Latte and a Plain Bagel with Cream Cheese and a side of Bacon, the breakfast of champions! While these are also basic breakfast foods, Roastology was able to curate them perfectly. The Iced Matcha Latte was the perfect balance of being creamy and subtly sweet, while the Bagel was nice and fluffy and the cream cheese was nice and thick. The bacon was perfectly cooked and probably the best I've ever had from a coffee shop! I also really loved how you could sit and watch the workers in the back roast and package coffee beans! This is exactly the kind of coffee spot we all needed in the fan! It's the perfect little cozy place with some of the best beverages I've honestly ever tasted. I've ordered their cold brew and their vanilla latte; they were both out of this world delicious! Their Yama blend is really flavorful and strong. I've also tried a few of their sandwiches and they were quite tasty as well. The coolest thing about this place is their seating space; adorned with comfy leather couches and awesome aesthetics. They have free wi-fi as well, so you'll definitely see quite a few laptops out on the tables during the work day. Drinks come out quickly, the food takes a little longer, but that's to be expected. Whenever I visit there's always a line so be prepared and don't let that scare you away. I try to play it safe so I usually get a vanilla ice latte, but this time something felt missing, like a lack of flavor. Along that, I ordered The Ripley, which contains House-made vegan sausage , house-made smoked cheddar, & avocado on a jalapeño cheddar biscuit. It was perfect. The biscuit wasn't dry, the proportions were right, and the sandwich did not seem like too much to eat. I spent a couple weeks in Richmond for a work trip last month and Roastology quickly became part of my daily routine. For someone who loves discovering new coffee spots, I probably have the most boring go-to order. At Roastology, my daily small drip coffee was an exciting journey that was never quite the same as I remembered. I've spent a lot of time in DC and traveled up and down I-95 a bit, and this place is roasting some of the most unique coffees I've found on the East Coast. Roastology has a respectable selection of whole bean offerings - from funky anaerobic naturals; bright, washed single origins; and seasonal blends. Brewed coffee seems to be rotated frequently, with two daily options for light or medium/dark roast. I took a couple bags of coffee home with me for around $12-13 each and feel like they're worth at least double that price out in Los Angeles. I hope you guys ship! read more

Cool spot with all outdoor seating at this point in the pandemic. Staff is super friendly and I loved the multitude of fresh baked offerings, including many specials of the day. My kids loved the peanut butter and jelly muffins. Great sandwich offerings too! While you can certainly tell that they use high quality coffee, the flavored lattes etc aren't all that banging. A pretty popular coffee shop in the area, we stopped in to grab a coffee and maybe a light breakfast. They had a decent sized line and you couldn't see the food menu until you got upfront (or online) but I went with a vegan jalapeno cheddar biscuit with vegan butter and two cafe au lait. I live very close to Roastology and have found it be such a treat. They offer lots of varieties of coffee, and I'm especially fond of their lavender latte. Yum! I like that they have an online ordering system which makes it super easy to order and pick up on my way out the door. This is especially helpful when they are busy, which happens on both Saturday and Sunday mornings. It's also a great place to sit and drink coffee, meet a friend, or study/read while enjoying your coffee. They have lots of small tables, a long table with seating, plus several comfy chairs. Been waiting to try this place for a long time. I'd always want something on a Saturday but the online system would always say there are too many orders and you can't place one (1. Sign of a great spot 2. I appreciate the expectation setting). I finally woke up early to place an order for a later time and was excited. When I arrived there were a ton of people waiting outside. It took an extra 15 to get our order, but it was expected with the traffic. We got a couple sandwiches and they were good. Simply solid, but nothing crazy that stands out. In terms of coffee, it was quite a disappointment. We ordered an iced coffee with milk. What we got was milk with a splash of coffee. Not sure if that's normal or we needed to specify, but it was bad. Overall, nothing to write home about. May give it a try later on, but nothing to seek out. read more

The inside was not open for customers- but they have very convenient order/pickup windows for walk-up ordering. I got the new "And Everything Nice" latte- which resembles a ginger snap cookie! Don't leave many reviews. Gotta give props to Roastology. Richmond has a pretty crowded coffee shop/roaster field and Roastology has managed to stand out despite being newer to the scene. Highlights: *Beans are very reasonably priced. Get an awesome blend for $11 or spend $2-$3 more for something more exotic/single origin. Think they are filling the space Blanchard's used to occupy. They're now my go to for a daily driver coffee and I'll have to try some of their pricier stuff next. *Love that they mix up what's on drip so you can try different things without dropping $6 for a pour over. *So far I've only had their pastries but if they're any indication I'll need to try the rest of their menu soon. I'm not usually a scone guy but my goodness the GIANT fresh scone they give you with an amazing warm glaze on top for $3 is insane. *The staff is seem knowledge, friendly, and happy to be there busting their butts even though it's winter and there's a pandemic and they have to serve everyone from a garage door. I love this place! We visited a few times during the height of Covid shut downs while they only had outside seating and takeout. They did such a great job of using their space by making the parking lot, in front, dining space and using their garage doors for taking orders. Now the inside is opened back up and it is gorgeous! The person who took my order was so helpful and patient when I was trying to decide on coffee flavors. I ended up going with the vanilla bean oat milk latte and it was delicious. So much potential here but the vibe is just off. Everything just feels a bit pretentious and overly hipstery. Waited for probably 45 minutes for a dirty chai and a breakfast sandwich. My dirty chai was weak and basically tasted like slightly spiced water. The breakfast sandwich had egg, sausage, Gouda, arugula, and pickled red onion on a cheddar jalapeño biscuit. It all sounds lovely but honestly it was just a step up from McDonalds in quality and taste. For the price and wait time I would expect so much better. Not likely to return. read more
