We sent our kitchen assembly instructions ahead of time to make sure they were aware. My overall sense is that Carlos is fairly capable and experienced but either his team or him are not as careful as we had damages to our finished wood toe kicks and our lacquer cabinets looked like they had been dragged over nails as they were being assembled. I didn't appreciate that they made 0 mention of it at all and I had to point it out. As the homeowner, I essentially had to baby sit them for 5 days through the install since it felt like they were incapable / unwilling to read the kitchen cabinet installation instructions in detail and I caught several mistakes early on during the cabinet assembly that made me hesitant to leave it unattended. Carlos's attitude was particularly bad through the entire experience as well. Always made it seem like we were inconveniencing him or being too nit picky even if we caught some mistakes. At one point, he even threatened to quit after the assembly but before the installation simply because he had underestimated the complexity of the project. We did have a 1 day delay due to some plumbing / electrical issues but that's pretty typical as far as kitchen cabinet installations go AFAIK. In the end, they were able to get all the kitchen cabinets installed, albeit with a lot of effort from my end due to the more custom nature of the project. The price was affordable and the work was solid (minus the scratches) but for me the bad attitude wasn't worth it.

When we purchased our home 10+ years ago, the deck came "as is." The thing was massive, like roller derby huge. The redwood was beautiful. The termites thought so too. They dug at it as did every other type of wood-eating creature. Soon it has to be demolished. With it, the end of access to the backyard. Years later we decided to landscape the area and build back better. But, not so fast. Creating a whole new backyard - cause with the deck went the garden - was quite an undertaking, so we paused, then COVID paused us further - and then the insurance man came knocking. To keep our insurance in check, and quite frankly going, the folks at the bank required us to re-build a part of the deck to allow anyone exiting the house to step down without having to jump the two feet to the dirt. Sure, the dog and the kids could leap, but not their elders. So, within 30 days we were tasked with finding a resource to help us 1. Fix a broken walkway and 2. Build steps for four exit doors - no easy task! I got a number of bids. They all were around the same price. What made Rob's Odd Jobs stand out - besides the name of their company - was Jake, their foreman. He understood what we needed - and didn't need - to appease the insurance agency, essentially "pass the mustard." Flavor did he add! Not only are the steps and walkway functional, they are beautiful! Jake went out of his way to also fill a whole at the edge of the walkway so the insurance company would see that no tripping would happen once off the path. He also added handrails to the steps, and make all of the step berths extra long for safety. Our deadline was is the end of the month. Jake finished the job yesterday - a whole 24 days in advance. And, you'll never guess what just arrived in my email. This message... Good news, the underwriter has rescinded the cancellation of the policy after reviewing the photos that you sent over. They should have some documents to you in a few days confirming that reinstatement. THANKS GUYS!!! read more

I contacted Rob's odd jobs as I had heard good things about them on a Rants and Raves page I follow. I'm so glad I did!! needed some drywall repaired and the lights in my kitchen replaced. i emailed them from their webpage. Traci text me the next day and asked for some pictures of what I needed done I sent them to her and she was very responsive back with a quote. we set a date and time for the lights To be changed. Nick and Jake arrived on time and were very nice and explained everything they were doing. Nick was very patient with me when I was trying to decide on what brightness I wanted the lighting set to!! They were very neat and tidy with their work. Avi did the wall around the new lighting and also repaired some cracks in my ceiling in the kitsch and living room. Avi is very nice and did great work just as Nick and Jake had. I felt comfortable enough with Avi to give him a key so he could come work on the drywall while I was at work!! Rob and his team were so accomodating! and when I say "accomodating" I do not mean "He called me right back," or " I got an appointment," I mean this guy got right to work! My home was raided by the local police department and they blasted through my front door! They had the wrong house and left with an Im so sorry. In any event Rob sent 2 of his men, Tim and Jimmy over to my place within an hour! These guys had my front door secure and to my satisfaction without missing a beat! Traci and Jake were awesome. we had a door with hinge problems. I thought it needed new hinges. Traci asked if I could have hinges on hand so time wasn't wasted on getting parts. Jake got here and after assessing the situation, was able to repair the door frame and use the existing unique hinges. Because Rob's Odd Job's has a 2 hour minimum, Jake, after completing the hinge project, worked on other issues pertaining to the door's functionality in order to fully work the 2 hours. the weather stripping needed replacing and since we didn't have it, Jake explained to our friend and me what was needed. I needed a small section of roofing replaced over a garden window for fire prevention purposes. Jake and Nick came out and took off the very old wood shingles. Then Jake made a custom metal roof covering which took a lot of planning, fitting and thought. Jake kept me updated with time and plan. End result is great. Great group of guys! Came by and did a great job cleaning up tree trimmings! They came prepared with tools and trailer to get the job done! They got a days work done in an hour! He was on time and he started drilling without following my instructions of using my previous drill…read moremarks as a guide for where to drill (just not in the exact spot but next to the mark) since I had done accurate measurements. Now the curtain is an inch from the floor. He drilled the holes before asking me how I was hanging them but that would only cause about a half inch difference. I'm not sure he's hung curtains before because the rod on each end is in alignment with the window and decorators use 1-3 " from the window. My marks were about an inch away from the window on either side. The job took an hour for $125 which seems high. After he left I found the right bracket holding the rod wasn't flush to the wall. This was my original issue and that's why I had contacted him to come out. I was told the wall was plaster and I think that's why he charged more because it's a pain to deal with. Turns out it was sheet rock. Anyway, I will be moving the rod out to accommodate a wider curtain and I'll probably move it down to where it should be so it was a waste of money.
