WORST OFFICE STAFF I'VE EVER HAD TO INTERACT WITH. So rude, so condescending, and incompetent. They had left me a voicemail with an incorrect appt. time (10 min before closing apparently), then treated ME with disdain when I showed up at the time given. Even after providing proof of their mistake, I did not receive an apology for the behavior or for the inconvenience, simply more sass. As for providers - Carlin's P.A. Brent is kind, but does not seem to be invested in understanding my medical history. read more

Absolute WORST medical office staff experience I have ever had. The staff at first appear to be outwardly nice, but they are UNPROFESSIONAL and NASTY, if you get into a dispute with them. They are short-tempered. The verbal knives will come out and they will slash and cut you to pieces with their words. The staff (especially the young blonde) feel very entitled, don't respect their patients, and think patients should not question anything they say. If you don't believe me, JUST READ SOME OF THE OTHER LOW REVIEWS ON THIS SITE. If you get into a dispute with them, they will yell at you to "get out" if you don't leave immediately. They will also try to retaliate against you if they don't like you by giving the police your address (a breach of medical ethics) and having them visit you. The police said I did not do anything wrong, but came to check on me anyway. It was the very WORST medical BETRAYAL I have ever experienced. The staff will even follow you to the parking lot and will continue to try to provoke patients they take a dislike to. If you complain to Dr. Carlin, he won't respond and just keeps enabling his rude staff. Its a really pathetic office. I STRONGLY recommend to anyone to go elsewhere for your dermatological needs. read more

Very unprofessional staff. I have been a patient of Dr. Carlin for many years. He is a nice and competent physician. Unfortunately, the lead receptionist refused to reschedule me after failing to attend an appointment. Evidently, this isn't an isolated incident as other reviewers issued similar complaints. Susan was incredibly rude over the telephone(even combative) before abruptly hanging up on me. She then lied to Dr.Carlin about the nature of our conversation and refuses to allow me to speak with my long time dermatologist . I have had family members/ friends who have also voiced nearly identical concerns regarding the lead receptionist and as a result no longer see Dr. Carlin. I would highly recommend going elsewhere(as I am) following my surprisingly unpleasant experience with the office staff read more

Dr. Carlin is by far one of the best Derms in the area. He takes the time to get to know his patients and their needs. I found him on a whim while searching for a Derm for a skin check since I have them two times a year (my mother had Melanoma so I'm extremely cautious). Dr. Carlin is extremely attentive and helpful in his diagnosis', concerns, etc. He is old school but I appreciate this as many derms I've visited have the new-school "in and out" mentality and are money hungry. He spent 45 mins+ getting to know me and my skin so we could make the right preventative choices moving forward, as I have high anxiety. I recently visited his office again and was able to get an appointment the within a day of calling- this time to address a different skin issue. Dr. Carlin goes above and beyond to help from the root of the problem. So thankful I found him and will continue to recommend him! My only gripe is probably the handling of electronic messaging and communicating over email, but I can excuse this due to how fantastic Dr. Carlin is. His assistant is always kind and helpful. I was looking for a dermatologist that would take me right away and I got in the same day at Dr. Carlin's office. I went into have my eczema looked at as it was spreading more than usual. I got to see the PA Brent and his nurse, Cheyenne and they were both really great and super helpful! Cheyenne was such a sweet and very caring nurse and really paid attention to all that skin issues. I had my eczema and the infection on my finger and ankle and they prescribed topical medication right away. Today is day five with the medication and I'm healing really well finally! Suffering with an extremely itchy skin rash that wouldn't go away, I visited several different doctors for a solution. Dr. Carliln put in an extraordinary effort to help and, with his thorough analysis, it was finally determined I was being bitten by dust mites. Once I knew the cause, I was able to solve the problem with relative ease. His staff was very helpful and friendly and was a pleasure to deal with. Dr. Carlin is very compassionate and caring about his patients. He is a real gentleman and his care for patient is very genuine. He thoroughly checks and takes the time to explain. When his staff reminded about other patient is waiting, he said that this patient currently needs my attention. I was so pleased when he asked me questions to learn what would I like to eat/drink to comfort me prior he began procedure to collect my skin sample! His staffs are very nice and friendly. His medical assistant constantly kept talking with me to divert my attention and comfort me while the Dr. Carlin was working on collecting sample from in my ear (cavum conchae). read more

I think this review is sneaking in front of someone else's who forgot to finish up by giving a rating. I want to say that Dr. Carlin is a magnificent doctor- and man- and I consider it a privledge to have spent time with him and been his patient. The Adlerians say that it doesn't so much matter what form of therapy you get (RET, Jungian, or punching a pillow) so long as the therapist shows you unconditional positive regard. That is what heals you. That is what enables you to flower as a human being. And that is what my wife and I found at Dr. Carlin's. I don't care if you have skin problems or not- everyone's got a freckle that could bare being looked at- you should go to Dr. Carlin's just to be in his presence for awhile. Excellent. Just excellent. Dr Carlin is a REAL dermatologist - not one of these dermatologists that function more like aestheticians. Dr Carlin will teach you how to care for your skin holistically, the right way. His recommendations are based on research and his practice has a heavy focus on patient education. I came to him after an electrolysis session elsewhere left my upper lip infected and he was a life saver. Now I am seeing him regularly for the typical concerns that come with age. He takes his time and is not rushed like other doctor offices. As a person he is funny and a pleasure to get to know as well. I really enjoy coming here and will be visiting regularly as he helps me care for my skin. I feel lucky to have found this doctor. I've been a patient of Dr. Carlin my entire adult life and he's always been exceptionally thorough and professional. He's one of the few doctors who really seems to put the needs of his patients first and never rushes through an appointment. For new patients, it's worth noting that he's far more thorough in examinations than you might typically expect from a dermatologist. My wife and I have used Dr. Carlin's services for about two years and we have always received very good services. The administrative staff is very kind and will make you feel welcome. The office is not fancy, but I take that as a sign that he is not overcharging and spending that on unnecessary office luxuries. I also think it is a very good sign when you go to a dermatologist and do not encounter a large group of staff and nurses who have clearly had a large number of botox procedures. You don't find this here. Dr. Carlin is very knowledgeable and, at least in our cases, have consistently recommended vitamins (e.g, grape-seed extract and krill oil) that have shown to have positive results in academic studies. This feels different over other doctors who prefer prescriptions and pills. We look forward to more years with this Doctor for our family (w/ three kids). Recommended for anyone who wants good care but doesn't need the frills. read more

This is a nice little doctor's office. I went in here yesterday to get treated for a few simple conditions: prehensile tail, gluteal scaling, and severe puff knuckle. Pretty standard stuff for a dermatologist. Anyway, Dr. Carlin was very thorough. He went through all the various treatment options and the benefits and drawbacks of each. Then he gave me some recommendations on sunscreen, skin lotions, and dietary supplements to keep my youthful glow. Without exaggeration, he spent 45 minutes with me for a simple visit. He is very knowledgeable and helpful. I would highly recommend going to see Dr. Carlin for that thing you've been meaning to have looked at. Seriously dude, you need to see someone about that. Dr. Carlin has treated my entire extended family for years (we are all super white and have regular issues). I was tired of my Newport Beach dermatologist leaving huge scars and treating me with less concern then her clients using more expensive services. So I came back to my childhood dermatologist. Dr. Carlin is like a therapist and dermatologist. Your first visit will be LONG because he wants to get a good picture of your overall health. I have stubborn warts. After talking, he gave me vitamins to boost my immune system and creams to help with scarring and bacteria. He didn't just freeze and go like all my other dermatologists. Instead of a spray can Dr. Carlin uses a q tip to apply the frozen nitrogen. This makes a HUGE difference in decreasing pain and protecting healthy skin from damage. He is gentle but effective. He talks a lot, but he really cares about his patients. I would recommend him, and warn you to expect a long first appointment. read more

Dr. Carlin is just the best dermatologist I have been to. Today was the first time I visited his office and I am blown away by how thorough the consultation was. The Dr. spent a good one hour with me, asking me several questions, taking the time to understand my medical history, following up on several possible causes for my symptoms and then recommending a holistic approach for my treatment . He went over each option, describing how it would aid in my recovery. It has been a long time since I have seen a doctor who treats his patients as individuals, takes time to listen and come up with a comprehensive treatment plan specific to your needs. I had my first appointment with Dr. Carlin yesterday. The wait in the office wasn't very long at all. His staff are extremely courteous and make you feel very welcome. Dr. Carlin spent an extensive amount of time with me and addressed all my questions and concerns, checked me thoroughly and even removed some suspicious looking areas the same day. I received the ointments that he wants me to apply daily and I received my follow -up appointment along with instructions how to care for the areas he treated. Dr. Carlin is so refreshing. He genuinely cares about his patient's, is willing to spend as much time as necessary to make sure you are properly cared for and respects your time as well. I have only had one appointment with Dr. Carlin but was highly impressed with him and his entire office staff. The office staff is extremely friendly and were very helpful. Dr. Carlin is very thorough and does offer a holistic approach to skin and overall health backed by research which he explains. I found the visit refreshing compared to all other dermatologist's offices where there are long wait times and offerings of botox and similar procedures.
