I got rear ended on Almaden Expy and wasn't sure if I had enough damage/injury for a case (it was a pretty minor accident). After considering those 'other guys' who always advertise during Sharks games, I searched on Yelp and found Robert. I called and got his receptionist. She took some basic info then told me he would probably have to call me back due to his busy schedule. I was on hold for only a few seconds when Robert jumped on the line. It was clear in the first couple minutes that my minor accident was small potatoes for him but he still spend over 30 minutes on the phone educating me about my rights and helping me understand how to deal with the other parties insurance (my insurance was not involved due to my coverage). He was extremely helpful and gave me a 'crash' course in how to handle the situation. He never rushed me on the phone and seemed genuine in his concern for me. I really appreciated this. In addition, a couple weeks later I received a nice hand signed letter from Robert following up and making sure everything was OK. Wow I am impressed! My brother got into a terrible auto accident over a number of years ago, through no fault of his own. I am posting this review as a way to acknowledge the time and expertise provided by Robert in moving my case forward.. Based on a recommendation from my Estate Attorney and a review of YELP, I contacted Robert. What a relief, someone that understood my situation and could assist me in identifying next steps. On July 1, 2016 (it is now January 4, 2017) over six months ago - my son was slammed into by a drunk driver who then tried to flee the scene - but ran into a divider - you know the story. The car looked like it was hit by a tank - crunched from rear to front - so bad the cost to repair was in excess of $31000. Not a tough decision, it was less expensive to give monies for a new car. Why a new car ? my son had just purchased this car 'three months' earlier and ONLY HAD 1,008 MILES on it. Welcome to the real world... Understandably an ambulance and emergency room visits were needed..and follow up visits to doctors. Soon thereafter we received these medical bills, the due before kind, even after providing copies to Sta they PAID NOTHING! Not wanting to mess up our credit we paid those / these -starting back on July 17th. And as you can here - we have not been reimbursed these monies after six months... . .we are not a bank, and like most don't have monies set aside for unexpected problems in life. Well after six months of runarounds and finger pointing, I was at my limits... Example, the previous Tuesday I was on the phone with "Sta" for over three hours - in the end nothing had change - I needed to do all the work. . Robert, understood the situation - basically both Sta and Far were trying to pay little - a no brainer. Based on inputs from Robert, I had a plan and added information. First of all, specific to medical - don't just accept monies for our out of pocket - but go after the total bill amount - as our insurance had paid a big portion and based on our contract with the Health Insurance they can come after us for the difference.. even though not identified in the settlement. Also, we were told to go after Far in two specific areas -(Medical and personal injury) keep them separate. This had real meaning. I contacted Robert Kopelson about an auto accident where I was the victim of a hit and run. Even though my case was too small for him to take he spent over 40 minutes on the phone with me giving me advice on how to negotiate with the insurance company. I had contacted several other attorneys and none of them gave me as much useful information as Mr Kopelson. I was very impressed after our telephone conversation, but I was even more surprised when I received a two page typed letter detailing all of the points that we had discussed on the phone. I called Robert after I was on the losing end of a vehicle vs. pedestrian accident. I didn't know what to do when the motorist's insurance company started calling me, so I called this law firm. Robert spent an hour talking to me on the phone going over everything about my situation. He got the details, asked a lot of questions, and gave me tips on what to do (and not do). When I called Robert, I did not know the extent of my injuries. Robert told me that if I had a simple sprain, it would be foolish to retain his services. Robert said that the amount I got without his help would probably be more than I would get with his help after he takes out his fee. Robert said that I should contact him if I had anything more serious than a sprain. I later learned that I had a sprain, so I took Robert's advice and did not retain his services. I appreciate Robert's honesty when he said it would not be worth my while to have him take my case if I had just a sprain. It felt good to talk to a lawyer who isn't out there just to bilk me for all he can. I also really liked the hour's worth of free advice that Robert gave me. He could have just as easily said this was not a case he wanted to work and hung up on me. Like other reviewers said, he mailed me a letter reminding me of the things he told me in the phone call. I can't comment on anything past the initial consultation, but I had a great experience with him. I would have been glad to use him if my injury turned out to be more serious. He is unrushed and clearly enumerates what must be done, step-by-step, in moving forward with the multiple aspects of an auto accident scenario. {As a side note, one concern after reading the other reviews, is the reviewers never seem to mention Mr. Kopelson's effectiveness as a litigator beyond initial consultation. While I cannot provide that experience at this time, he did indicate to me a willingness to take my case, either initially or down the road.} What I can say is, Mr. Kopelson is generous with his time, and the information that he provides is empowering. Mr. Kopelson does not present himself, by any measure, as an 'ambulance chasing attorney'. His assistant listened to my concerns and then transferred me to Mr Kopelson, who discussed my matter in detail. Although he was unable to help me, I felt he gave me time and attention. I had a personal injury matter that didn't have enough physical proof (photos, witnesses, etc.). He did give me information to consider and I appreciated that very much. I needed a defense lawyer to represent me in an auto claim. The other personal injury attorneys I had called all turned me down because they only served plaintiffs. A few weeks ago during my research on various web sites I found out about Mr. Kopelson (on avvo.com) and the high rankings he has achieved in the legal community. I was looking for a substitute attorney in a case which did not fall exactly or specifically into the area of his practice. While being disappointed with my prior contacts with most other lawyers I decided to give a shot and contact Mr. Kopelson's office. I left a message and almost was sure like most of my experiences in the past, I would not hear anything back. Almost half an hour later Mr. Kopelson returned my call and soon I noticed I was talking with an outstanding attorney who actually listened to my case carefully. During the next hour and half (90 minutes), I felt I was being provided a crash course on different legal matters and valuable advices by a very knowledgeable, courteous, and caring attorney. A few days later I received a follow-up letter summarizing the phone discussion we had and reviewing his advices and my options. It was promising and striking to me, as well. His professionalism and the wealth of information he provided to me boosted my confidence while I was feeling down. Although, Mr. Kopelson was not able to take over the case as we both realized the case was not a good match with his area of practice and focus, I felt that there were still caring and committed attorneys around.
