I cannot recommend that everyone use Robert for every photography need. He was punctual on ALL of his communication, he was kind, he was respectful, and his photos were stunning. Our only regret is that we wish we would have just paid for 2 hours of his time because we were having such a good time. It was a simple family photo shoot, but I plan on hiring him again when I can gather more family members. Wedding, Family, Headshot, you name it...he'll shoot it and you will NOT be disappointed. What a terrible experience. I bought the groupon and scheduled an appointment several months in advance (I wanted to have baby pictures taken). I didn't hear anything as the appointment drew near so I decided to call. The photographer answered and said they had no such appointment on the calendar. He said it shouldn't be a problem though and said to make sure and call and email his assistant to get it on the calendar. Called, emailed, emailed again and no response. In fact, after several calls over a period of a few weeks I began to suspect others were experiencing the same thing. Sure enough, I read reviews of many people experiencing the same thing (some of which appear to have been removed now). At this point the number wasn't even in service- just a long busy tone and a message saying the subscriber wasn't accepting any calls at this time. Two days before our "scheduled" appointment, the assistant sends me an email (not even the courtesy to call) saying they are all booked up and can't honor our appointment, but they can try to get us in sometime...??? Yeah, no thanks. Groupon was nice to refund the money quickly. Why they would let this guy do another groupon is beyond me. read more

We used Robert because of a Groupon for our engagement photos back in January. We were on a very short timeline due to a deployment but Robert fit us in with no problem. We had a great experience with Robert Goold Photography. I was skeptical that the Groupon + 2 month wait for a sitting was going to be worth while, but after getting the pictures in hand they are really breath taking. We did a photo shoot at Balboa park and Robert quickly impressed us with his artistic eye and fanatical approach to photography. He didn't let a mere water puddle keep him from photographing in the right spot and wiped it off with his bare arms and sat on it and swished around until all was clear. A half hour later he was tip toeing through Balboa park vegetation to remove a spider web that blocked the perfect shot...quite the hands-on service. We have young kids with a radioactive half-life of about 2.5 minutes, but Robert and Kristen kept them entertained, happy and engaged. Their hard work resulted in the best pictures we've ever had of our family. Robert also did a great job of shifting gears - one moment catering to a 1-and-a-half year-old, the other moment making my wife and me feel like we were taking engagement photos or on some romantic getaway. The only reason I refrain from a five star rating is that there was a mix up in the delivery of the photos. I attribute this to RGP being slammed with Groupon business. Once we brought it to their attention that we were disappointed we hadn't yet received the photos Adriano (Robert's colleague) personally delivered them to our house. You can tell they are an operation that takes great pride in their work. We would definitely recommend Robert Goold Photography and bought a second Groupon. I can't say enough about my experience with Robert. The initial phone call with Kristen really impressed me- she was extremely personable, knowledgeable, and professional. Robert was just as exquisite. The photo shoot was a gift for my parent's anniversary, it was a surprise and they had never done a professional photography session before so we werent sure what to expect. Our photo shoot was at Balboa Park and Robert made my parents feel very comfortable. I must add at this point that I never knew what my father's teeth looked like until I was 13 (he is a happy guy, but never ever shows his teeth when he smiles)- well Robert managed to capture toothy smiles in every photo. Not only did he capture toothy smiles, he captured the essence of my parents marriage, their playfulness, their love for each other, and in the photo's I participated in, their love for me. I was moved to tears when I saw the pictures. My parents live in TX so this experience, and the amazing quality of work Robert delivered has given me one of the best gifts I have ever recieved. The irony is the gift wasn't even for me. We had fun, the hour flew by, and he even added in a few precious ones with my very uncooperative and slobbery boxer. I could not recommend Robert Goold Photography highly enough! Robert is an exceptional photographer. He has an eye for lighting and scenery. I worked with him two separate times and after which I will work with only him moving forward. He is professional, punctual, responsive, and talented. He provided results above my expectations. For some background... The first time I worked with him was for engagement photos in Balboa Park, a notoriously populated park in San Diego. He masterfully took each shot so that no other person was in the background. It really seemed like we had rented out the entire park for ourselves. On top of that, we only spent an hour with him and got 600 photos in 5 different locations. I was even able to change my clothes! I am by no means a model, and engagement photos are awkward enough... but he made me and my man feel at ease. He got us laughing and we really took some amazingly special photos (one of which is my yelp profile picture today!) The second time I worked with Robert was my wedding. He is the ideal wedding photographer. He asked to scout the location and was direct about what places would work best. On top of that, he even scouted nearby parks and found additional special backdrops to capture more memorable photos. He is a true artist that is just as invested in the results of your photos as you are. As though that weren't enough, he was completely autonomous. He didn't bug me once during the wedding and let me have a fantastic time while he beautifully captured all my guests and my husband and I. Do yourself a favor and work with this guy! read more

I purchased a Groupon for a 1hr photo shoot last Dec 2011. I put it on the back burner, thinking I would use it for next year's Xmas cards. When I got engaged in Feb, my fiance and I thought it would be a good idea to use it for baseball-themed Save-the-Dates. I was a little hesitant when I went on Yelp to read reviews before scheduling because of all of the other negative comments from Groupon users, but I had purchased and didn't want it to go to waste. I contacted him the end of Aug, hoping to schedule for mid-October. I actually had a hard time scheduling between emailing back and forth and calling (don't remember the name of the woman on the phone). Took about 3 weeks to actually lock in a date and time, but I was thankful that at least they could fit us in in October... Robert was great! Prompt, called me while we were on the way to tell me where to park and meet up. Since we didn't know the area very well and we wanted a baseball theme, he had picked a baseball field near Sunset Cliffs. Well, life happens, and unbeknownst to Robert, they had actually torn it down. But Robert still managed to take great pics. He let us do an outfit change for some regular pics, and our session was a little over an hour if I'm correct, but he made sure to get all of the shots and didn't rush us to end. He brought his friend/sometimes assistant Kristen, and the two of them were fun and great conversation. A lot of our pictures are us laughing just from talking to them, and they came out cute :) We got the pictures the following Wednesday (from our Saturday shoot). Overall, excellent!! Had a great time with them, loved many of our photos (I've posted some for reference-the baseball ones and the purple-y dress), and we are proudly using one for our Save-the-Dates (also posted). I have always felt that for a photographer to be truly talented, they had to be a master of both the art and science of photography. With Robert Goold Photography, they changed my point of view. Robert is a very talented photographer...without question. But what sets him apart was his unabashed love and zeal for what he does. Does not return emails or calls. It took months to get them to finally come out, they seemed to take good photos once they did, and they promised us 10 retouched photos for the inconvenience caused by their last minute reschedule. we never got the retouched photos, and never heard from them again. I've been calling to use our other groupon (I have in writing that they would honor it), and no one will return my calls or emails. This is ridiculously unprofessional. Apparently Robert picks and chooses who he will keep appointments with, call back, or provide the photos that were taken. If you like to gamble or you like shitty customer service, I recommend Robert Goold. If you want your memories and photos to be safe, I'd go elsewhere. Shame on groupon for doing business with these people! read more

When I purchased the Groupon deal in February, I was really excited. I had wanted wedding anniversary photos done in Balboa Park with my husband and this seemed like the perfect opportunity. I called and made an appointment for mid-July. I explained to the lady on the phone that I wanted to take photos in some of the same areas from our wedding and wanted to be sure it would be okay. She assured me that it would be and that they do photo shoots in Balboa Park all the time. I was excited to have a photographer that was so familiar with the area and looked forward to the photo shoot. Fast forward 5 months to July. I waited for a confirmation call but one never came. I finally called Thursday afternoon and left a message. All evening Thursday and nearly all day Friday passes. I finally start calling more on Friday night requesting confirmation so I wouldn't show up to the appointment with no one to take the photos. Finally around 8 pm on Friday night, I get a call back confirming my appointment. Seriously - a 12-hour confirmation? Photo shoot day: we arrive at the meeting place and find that it's a very cloudy morning. When we meet with Robert, I express concern over the weather. He assures me that he'll get good photos and can adjust our top 5 photos easily to ensure that the colors come out. I start to discuss with him some of the areas where I'd like to get photos and brought along a few photos from our wedding to show him the areas that we liked. He seemed surprised by this and a bit offended that we didn't give him complete creative control. First - this is something I mentioned when I made the appointment so there should be no surprises - and second, while I understand that he is the artist and we've hired him for his artistic eye - it is our money and I purchased his services for a specific reason. During the shoot, we were impressed with Robert's willingness to really "get the shot." He was lying on the ground and ducking between trees. He also gave us direction with poses and actions which we liked. I did express concern when he was using the flash. My husband wears glasses and I didn't want to see glares in the photos. Again, he assured me that everything would be fixed in our edited photos. He also assured us that he could remove the various public trashcans and signs that were in a few of our shots. We left the shoot feeling good about the work he had done and had high hopes for the photos. My husband picked up the photo CD a couple days after the shoot and we were impressed with the fast turn-around time. But then things got busy and my husband had to go out of town unexpectedly. We didn't get our photo choices to them until late August. About a month after that, we received a link to some photos and were told they were our edited photos. But, there was NOTHING different about them from the originals except that the file size was smaller. None of the concerns we raised during the shoot were addressed! Even if Robert had forgotten my specific requests (which would be totally understandable), there were some obvious elements that I would think any professional photographer would edit from "professionally edited" photos - such as the glare on my husband's glasses and ugly red emergency signs on the front a building! I emailed back immediately with a list of things that I wanted fixed - something that in my opinion, I should not have to do. I would have assumed that a photographer's artistic eye would be applied not only to the actual taking of the photos but to the edits as well. I got an immediate response saying the edits would be taken care of. I waited another month to receive the edits and after several emails requesting status updates, I got nothing until yesterday when I threatened negative feedback on Yelp and a possible call to the BBB. I received a quick response with newly "edited" photos. While these photos did indeed address the issues that I pointed out, several were severely cropped, the colors were made vibrant to the point of being neon and we were given orange coloring worthy of New Jersey fake tans (see added photo). Needless to say - that's it - I'm done. It is clear to me that I will never receive the professionally edited photos outlined in the Groupon deal. While I feel like I got my money's worth (which was $60 due to Groupon), I would have been livid had I paid the full price of $300. I have a couple of friends getting married in the next year or two and my mother-in-law runs a very successful wedding-related business here in town and I've already warned all of them about RGP. I think above all, RGP needs to work on their communication - with one another as well as with their clients. The Groupon deal probably made them much busier than they anticipated; however that is not my fault or that of other clients. There is no excuse for the lack of a quality product. Yes they do have several 4+ star reviews but notice that most are BEFORE receiving edited photos. read more

I too took advantage of the Groupon opportunity this week and I got a quick reply to my email saying I needed to book with them on the phone. And then I got a prompt reply call from Kristin to make the appointment. Then it was just a game of phone tag but within a day, I got scheduled. Looking forward to the shoot in a few weeks-sure, I'd love to do it tomorrow, but what do you expect when they offer such a great deal to THOUSANDS of Groupon members. My family and I were looking to have professional photos taken while on vacation in Palm Desert this past Thanksgiving, and not knowing any photographers in the area, we feel very fortunate to have found Robert. I reached out to him through his website and was very impressed with how quickly he responded to me and helped us select a time and place to accommodate our large family. Upon meeting Robert I knew we made the right decision in choosing him. He was professional, energetic, and made the entire experience fun and enjoyable for us all, even the little ones! We took advantage of the $60 Groupon (a $300 value). Overall the pictures were nice and we did get them on a disc which was really great. The disc took a little while to arrive at our house in Riverside due to a mistake on the address, but Robert was nice about fixing it and getting it back out to us. For the price we paid ($60) I think it was a good deal. However, if we were regular clients I would have been unhappy with the service. I know they were busy from the Groupon deal but I really felt like I was a huge inconvenience to them. They were also late to our appointment (we were on time and drove from Riverside to Point Loma). It was hard to get into contact with Robert. He was nice and did a good job shooting us, although i did feel a little rushed. He had a male assistant with him who was good. Only complaint about the photos...this may be a picky girl thing but I was wearning a somewhat flowy shirt and it was windy. I look pregnant in some of the photos due to the wind blowing my shirt, i wish someone would have pointed that out and told me to pull in my cardigan to fix that. No one wants to look pregnant when they aren't, but these were engagement pics so I especially didn't want to look preggers. I know it's hard to remain calm when business gets crazy and hectic, but making your clients feel rushed and almost guilty for scheduling your services isn't a great way to handle the stress. Overall Robert was professional, but my best way to sum it up was that I was a bother and an inconvenience to them (we even gave a 66% tip right after the shoot and couldn't get emails or calls returned for days). I don't think i'd book a $300 shoot with them. read more

He brought his assistant, Kristen, along as well which is always an added bonus (it's not often photographers work in teams but that extra person to help with reflectors and lighting is a plus - especially at no extra charge). I bought a groupon type deal for Robert. I really wanted some good family pictures and thought this would be a good opportunity. Robert was amazing! I have a 2 yr old and a 6 month old, so as you can imagine, they arent easy to work with. I came away from the photo shoot feeling happy and confident that we got great pictures. It was an extremely positive experience and he really worked well with my family and worked off of us to get great family pictures. When my 2 yr old lost his attention span, Robert played some games with him and got him back into it. The turnaround time on the pictures was insanely quick!! We got them in less than 24 hours after our photo shoot. I would highly recommend Robert Good Photography!! His pictures came out beautifully and he was a pleasure to work with. read more

Robert Goold was an Excellent, Professional, Patient Photographer. I bought a deal with him for my sons 1 year old photos (taken in 11/2010) and family photos. During that shoot he gave me the heads up for another deal coming soon and I bought one again for my family photos to take the next year. With that being said, I did have all the issues with scheduling the latest session. No reply's for weeks, no emails, then finally replies but only through emails. It was a disaster. Here is the thing... Robert fired the assistant who screwed it all up (fired Adrienne late December) and now has his old assistant Kristen back who was great to schedule with, just as I had remembered her from before. She spent 20 minutes talking with me and was genuinely beside herself with all the damage the previous assistant had done. So why 5 stars if I had issues?? Everyone deserves a second chance, and I don't regret it at all. We did photos at Wind n sea on Friday and I had all my pics and 5 enhanced photos by mid day Saturday. Robert was amazing with my husband and son. Extremely patient with my 2 year old and doing everything with us to get him to look at the camera. Jumping, funny faces, chasing him, he even laid in the sand and got soaked by an incoming wave. He brushed it off and said "if I don't get dirty, I'm not doing my job". I had referred his deal to 4 friends and I know they will all turn out great. read more

We just did a photo shoot with Robert this week and we already have some amazing photos in hand. Robert is easy to work with, the consummate professional, and he even manages to make the shoot fun. I have two young daughters so keeping them happy and focused for an hour on the beach can be a challenge, but even despite some grumpiness, Robert captured great shots and we had a blast. We did a shoot with Robert a couple of years ago as well and the photographs from that shoot have been proudly displayed all over our home. We always receive compliments on them. I already know it will be hard to choose from all of the terrific photographs Robert took this week. He works diligently with you to get every shot you want and to make sure it is a great one. We have used Robert twice for family pictures after having tried other photographers. We are extremely happy and impress with the quality of service and finished product that he offers. Robert is very professional, his equipment is top of the line, he is always on time, he always spends more time with us than the allotted "purchased" time to make sure we get all the shots we want. My friend bought a groupon and was not able to use it, so I called and left a message in hopes that they would honor the purchased groupon. Not only did they let me use it, but they also said they would honor it past the expiration date! We live in Oceanside, but figured for the groupon deal, a drive down to Balboa Park would be worth it to give it a shot. Especially since we had done pictures with a local photographer in Oceanside and it was a disaster! Robert was great - very professional and quite friendly, with conversation as we walked between places to do the shoot. The pictures were of my 7 month old baby; Robert was on his knees getting dirty, just to get the shot, even wiping her drool away - nothing phased him! He is extremely passionate for what he does and does an amazing job with it. I have to say of all the reviews I've read, it seems that the negative comments are just about logistics. Perhaps a busy photographer, but he is extremely flexible and wants to be sure he does the job right. I didn't feel rushed or an inconvenience to him at all. Best part - he emailed the photos THE SAME NIGHT. Yes. 8 hours later and I had all the pictures he took that morning. AMAZING! read more

What an amazing experience! We did a family photo shoot with Robert at Balboa Park. He was very professional, easy going and really made everyone feel comfortable and relaxed. It was actually fun!
