Avoid this place. They have rude/condescending/incompetent staff. After a botched and needless application of antibiotics for periodontal disease, which I do not have, my gums were left bleeding for almost 2 weeks. The after-hours emergency number was disconnected at 9:00 AM on a Monday for questions regarding the complications. Once in touch, staff dismissed the pain and bleeding as normal. My new dentist confirmed that my gums are healthy and the antibiotics were unnecessary. Even weeks after closing out my account with zero outstanding balance, I've received inaccurate statements requesting payment for unexplained amounts. The practice screams questionable ethics and needs staff with better customer service skills. TL;DR: bad customer service, unnecessary procedures, unreliable emergency assistance, inaccurate billing. Avoid this place at all cost. Once you go in there they just charge to upsell you on all the extra services and lie to you about how bad your teeth are. The then refuse to do any services (Even a basic cleaning) on me unless I purchased me medicine out of pocket. I called my insurance and they said that the medicine they offer is an an option and they cannot force that up on me. All I wanted was a routine checkup and cleaning. How did I end up with over $2000 worth of procedures needed? I've been going to the dentist routinely every 6 months for years. Unfortunately, my insurance changed and I was assigned this DDS...so, I gave him a try. Next! Interesting how all the dentists I've visited before, and at every checkup, never mentioned all the dental work I supposedly need. I went to this butcher 5 years ago before Yelp became prevalent. I had a ton of work done, 6 veneers, 3 crowns, fillings etc. all in all I spent over 8,000 here. In only 5 years, all of his work had to be redone. The veneers came off. Imagine sitting at a business lunch and your fucking front tooth, that you paid over a grand for, comes off!!!!! And that's exactly what happened. The crowns he used are hollow and metal. That may sound good until you bite into something, and the 1mm think crown cracks, which it did. 3/9/2021 4.01PM - If I could give a zero or -ve rating, I would gladly do so. Very incompetent dental office. My mom had a dental appointment two months ago with her MediCal dental benefits. I wonder if the dental office saw there may be very little monetary benefit to milk from the system or/and the customer as she needed dentures. The dental office has always been trying to avoid my call or hang up on me after asking me to hold. Its been two months since her appointment and every time I followed up (and several times I had to leave phone messages which appeared to go into cyberspace and I never got a call back), as my mom was in severe dental pain. If lucky I would get through a rude front desk, incompetent staff (always this rude women) keeps me on hold for about 30 minutes and then hangs up. I don't know what her issue is. Dr Mondavi and his staff are great. Other dentists I've experienced have nickel and dimed me. This doesn't happen here. I came here for Invisilign and they've been nothing but thorough the whole way. When I was supposed to be done with my straightening, he checked it out and the teeth needed a little more alignment (not the Dr's fault) so he took another impression and ordered another Invisilign retainer without blinking an eye. The staff is excellent. They all say hello to you and seem to know your name. David, Mary and the other David are a pleasure to work with. Hard working team! I am truly baffled by the bad reviews! It's hard to believe I go to the same dental office. The care I've received has been nothing short of excellent. The staff is welcoming and helpful (especially office manager David!). I've never been up-sold on anything and prices are competitive. Best of all, Dr. Mondavi takes time to explain what is going on. Pros: -Clean office. -David, the office manager, is very courteous, people-friendly, and knows what he's doing. If at all possible, deal with him only. Cons: -My first appt was scheduled for 3:30pm; however, when I called the day before to confirm, one of the female receptionists said it was set for 2:30pm. I had to make last-minute arrangements with my supervisor to leave work early. I REALLY REALLY hate writing negative reviews. Positive reviews are just a lot more spiritually fulfilling, but sometimes--when I'm really treated like garbage--my passion for justice leaves me with no other choice. For many years, I saw Dr. Gharibian at the Dental Center of Redondo Beach. His staff is ridiculously friendly, and he is truly one of the few dentists I've ever met who is not a crook. So a while back, when I had to change insurances and could no longer see Dr. Gharibian, I was devastated. Fast forward to four years at Blue Sky Dental. In four years, I was never actually seen by Dr. Mondavi, so I can't comment much on him other than that he at least smiled every time I saw him. The dentists and hygienists I did see, though, were nice. David, the manager, however, is a complete jerk and fully trained on how to take advantage of trusting people. Don't be fooled by his cheesy big smile or chummy verbiage. This guy knows what he's doing and he does it well, but when challenged by a highly educated, assertive person like myself, he quickly drops his phony friendly gimmick. Every time I saw someone at Blue Sky Dental, he/she told me that I needed a deep cleaning (a periodontal cleaning), and every time Blue Sky sent the request for it to my insurance, it got rejected and I had to pay $75 for it. Blue Sky also somehow managed to trick me into coming in every four months to get this type of cleaning, and I paid every time, which I'm now super embarrassed about. I should have been smart enough to catch onto their deception earlier on. So eventually, when I started getting pre-requested deep cleaning rejection notices in the mail from my insurance, I decided to call them to find out what was going on. My insurance told me that they do indeed cover deep cleaning, but only when it is necessary. They told me that my teeth are very healthy (I take very good care of them) and that I absolutely did not need a periodontal cleaning. They explained that this type of cleaning is only suggested to people whose X-rays show clear signs of bone loss and periodontal disease--hence, a periodontal cleaning. I'm 27 years old and take really good care of myself. I literally still wear the same retainers I got when I was 15 every single night. That's how anal I am. I don't have anything near periodontal disease, but Blue Sky Dental deceived me by calling this type of cleaning a "deep" cleaning and by saying that it would clean my teeth a lot better. I'm always for better, so I paid it each time, but it wasn't until I called my insurance that I realized that this type of cleaning was absolutely not fundamental. So today, when I came in for my appointment, I told David that I did not want a deep cleaning; I only wanted the regular cleaning that's covered by my insurance. Immediately once I said this, his "welcoming" demeanor shifted. He was way less friendly than he was every time before when I was unquestionably paying the $75 three times a year. Then, when I went in to see the hygienist, she literally just polished my teeth and did it in five minutes!! I right away called my insurance and they told me that they cover a prophylaxis cleaning, which includes both polishing AND cleaning above the gum line. They also said that a proper prophylaxis cleaning should take 30-45 minutes to complete. The hygienist did not use any sort of picking utensil and didn't touch my gum line at all! She simply did a quick polish and flossing in five minutes. I'm not kidding!! After talking to my insurance, I called David back and told him what I had found out, and he was extremely rude to me. He couldn't answer why the "cleaning" was only five minutes, but angrily told me that I should find another dentist that better suits me. Well, sure thing David. There's no way I am ever coming back to Fool Sky Dental. David the Rascal was so disconcerted that he couldn't weasel another $75 out of me that he must have told the hygienist to just polish my teeth as fast as possible and send me away. The receptionist even told me that I would have to come back later to see the dentist because he was too busy to see me. Go figure. By all means stay away from Blue Sky Dental, unless, of course, you're a fan of opportunistic punks. read more

The parking was easy and the facilities were clean. I arrived at my scheduled time. As a first-time patient, I had to fill out a substantial amount of paperwork and questions. It took me about 20 minutes to fill-out the paperwork. There was a page in all the paperwork that explicitly stated, paraphrasing, that their job was to inform you of all the options but it was up to you to decide on (or decline) the services. I read and signed this page. [The importance of this became evident later....] I waited another 10-15 minutes in the waiting lobby to be seen by an assistant. She led me to a room and then told me that a technician attend to me shortly. A technician did appear. He was there to take my x-rays. I'm not sure if it is an advantage. They have a "digital" x-ray imaging system. It seems to be quicker. But it also seemed that they took more photos. So, net-net, I don't think it was quicker. During the x-ray pictures, he was very courteous and overly complimentary. He also mentioned he would have taken photos of my mouth but told me the camera was out of commission. As he was taking x-rays of my mouth/teeth he kept repeating the same complimentary phrases. While trying to be nice, it also become inauthentic and annoying. After he finished taking x-rays of my mouth/teeth, he guided me to another room. After waiting a few minutes in the room, the dentist, Dr. Robert Mondavi DDS, entered the room. He pointed me out to a space/gap behind my canine. He presented 3 options: blah, blah or leave as is. Because neither orthodontist or previous dentist had mentioned any concern with the space/gap AND because I had no issues with the gap, I told him I wanted to leave it as is. Then he mentioned that I had some areas of plaque buildup. He also mentioned briefly, quickly that I would need a deep cleaning. He then handed me off to the "office manager", David. So I got up and went to another room. David immediately presented me a form that stated that it would cost me $220 to complete the deep cleaning. I knew that it had been a long time since my last cleaning. I had told my technician that I had been unemployed for a long period of time and only recently been able to secure dental insurance. Still I was presented with this $220 amount for "deep cleaning". I asked if my basic dental insurance would cover x-ray and cleaning as I understood it wood. David told me that it would only cover polishing, but that I needed "deep cleaning". I asked, "So no cleaning?". He said they would only be able to do "polishing". I did not aggressively push for some, basic form of cleaning. I walked away disappointed. I had just been able to secure this dental insurance. I understood I hadn't had a cleaning in a long time. (Which I stated in the form I completed before the exam.) I also understood I needed a cleaning. It was the reason why I pursued and got the dental insurance. At the end of the day, I got x-rays of my teeth. But NO cleaning, however basic or rudimentary. The only saving grace for dentist/location is that the office seems clean and they have a screen/monitor with the Travel channel on. read more

Not sure why but felt like I was blown off. Called Monday and set up appointment to have a tooth extracted. Advised that I'm a first time patient and provided my dental insurance information. When asked how I heard of the office, I advised them I lived in the area for sometime and have seen the office, hence my choice to choose Cosmetic Dental Group. I actually found the office online in the insurance provider list. Received a call (message) confirming my appointment with Dr. Mondavi the day prior to my office visit, nice service. The day prior to the appointment almost the end of business hours, I received a call from Dr. Mondavi's office advising me that I had medical coverage only and not dental coverage. I chuckled and responded, Dan, this must be a joke or you've got to be kidding. He replied no it wasn't a joke and was adamitt wasn't covered for dental care. I advised him that I contacted my dental care provider a few days prior and inquired of the cost of a tooth extraction if it were necessary and was told the dental office would submit the correction codes for coverage and payment. He advised me to contact my insurance company and verify coverage which I did and was told, as I already knew, I've been covered for some time now. Before hanging up I hesitantly cancelled my appointment, my mouth is really in a lot of pain. I picked this dentist office because it's close to home. The dentist himself seemed okay, but I only saw him for five or ten minutes. The office staff is a completely different story. After my initial exam / cleaning, one of the office staff members talked to me in an office about getting a deep cleaning treatment. This treatment is not covered by my insurance, and I repeatedly told this man that I could not afford to pay for it out of pocket, but he continued to try to pressure me into agreeing to an appointment for it. He seemed like a used car salesman as he tried to convince me to finance the cost of the treatment. Later on, I encountered countless troubles while trying to get a referral approved so I could see an oral surgeon and get my impacted wisdom teeth removed. Now I understand that dealing with Medi-Cal contracted insurance companies is a big pain, but the staff members at Mondavi's office were completely incompetent; it was like they had never interacted with an insurance company before. They didn't know which codes to use, they never followed up with the insurance company when things were denied, and there were many times (five to ten) when I was told I would be called back later in the day, but the only time this actually happened was after I told them I was going to change to a different dental office. Until Mondavi replaces his incompetent and pressuring office staff, I recommend avoiding this office. read more

Love the doctor! but I'm going to give a worst review because of the stuff. In particular, the lady in the front! She did so many mistakes scheduling me! 3 times, she forgot to schedule me! Then she got lost in her own schedule. ( happened 2 times). Then she couldn't dial my phone number to call me into the office, after I waited outside for 30mins after checking in. Happened 3 times! She said cuz she couldn't read the phone number... after the 1st time, I made sure she has a correct one and asked her if she can read it for the next time? She said :"yes". Still the same thing happen! No reminder on her part of the appointment! And on top of all that, she was very rude every single time!! I mean you would be amazed!!! Never apologized and didn't admit any of her mistakes!!! Terrible experience, disgusting people. Don't, just... don't. THE SHORT STORY: THEY NOT ONLY TRY TO SELL YOU EXPENSIVE TREATMENTS THAT YOU DON'T NEED. THEY ALSO MESS UP, THEN WON'T TAKE RESPONSIBILITY, THEN THREAT YOU TO LEAVE AND EVEN CALL POLICE ON YOU. True story. Yesterday I came in for a routine teeth cleaning (that's all I ever need, luckily). The hygienist was scraping etc. and then I felt that something was scratching my tongue. Apparently she broke the permanent retainer that I have on the back of my lower teeth. I have had it for years, but they are supposed to last a lifetime if properly taken care of. I guess she didn't know how to clean the gums below such a retainer. She had to call the doctor (Mondavi), who first tried to say that it had probably been broken when I came in (!), then he said that the retainer is old and falling apart on its own (!!), and then became downright defensive and angry. He said he could either "smooth the retainer" or "replace it, but I don't know how much it's going to cost". Thinking that by "smoothing it" he meant that he would put it back in working order, I took the first option. It was easier than arguing with an angry dentist while I'm still in that chair... right? But after I got home that night, I looked in the mirror and the retainer was still broken... Apparently all he did was cut the loose piece off and "smooth" the edges, but the retainer in my mouth is still broken. I went back there first thing in the morning to show it to him. He was just as defensive and rude. He said he never had said that "smoothing" meant to repair it, and that he wasn't going to repair my retainer, etc. I insisted that if my *permanent* retainer broke while I was being treated at his cleaning, then it's his responsibility and he has to replace it. It's the honest thing to do. At this point he disappeared in the back rooms and I was left to talk to the "clinic manager", a shady-looking guy called David. But there was really no one to talk to, because apparently everyone was on "defensive mode". He would not talk to me, or discuss any possibility that the clinic will fix my retainer. No compensation, no discount, nothing. I insisted that this is not the way I would like to do business, and said that if I had to get to retainer fixed someplace else, I will send them the bill. He then ASKED ME TO LEAVE. He said that I was yelling (I wasn't) and making threats (does telling them that I expect they pay for the damage they did count as "threatening"?), etc. For the record, he is a man and I am a woman (5'3", 114 lbs). I couldn't make him feel "intimidated" even if I tried. HERE COMES THE BEST PART: HE SAID HE'LL CALL THE POLICE! I COULDN'T BELIEVE MY EARS AND I STAYED THERE WHILE HE ACTUALLY PICKED UP THE PHONE... HE SAID THERE WAS A COSTUMER "CREATING A DISRUPTION AND REFUSING TO LEAVE". I went outside and waited for the police in the parking lot. The two cops were really nice and polite, and of course they said I did nothing wrong and that I was free to go. They agreed with me that a business dispute is no reason to call police... Then one of the officers went in and probably spoke to Robert Mondavi or David, but I don't know what he told them. He came back out after two minutes. I am still shocked and amazed by how aggressive and disgusting these people are. To think that they would rather call police than fix a broken retainer (which, by the way, is approx. a $300 job. Not a huge amount in terms of dental treatments, and certainly not a complicated job). Not to mention common decency and owning up to their mistakes. I recently switched insurance companies and got assigned to this dentist. I should have read the reviews before beginning the process with them. PLEASE LOOK ELSEWHERE for a better dentist. Yes, I got stuck for the $200 deep cleaning. And yes the dentist recommended a certain crown that was not covered by my insurance. Yes, David the finance guy is absolutely firm on getting the most out of the customer. That 'recommended' type of crown is actually the cheapest for them and not for me. And no they are not at all open to discussing what type of crown I want. The dentist was very thorough. Enough for David to work up an list of over $5,000 worth of things they want to do. My previous dentist is not in my current dental coverage. He was awesome and thorough and very professional and didn't see even a quarter of the things this dentist came up with. It all felt very much like going in for an oil change and being told I needed to rebuild the engine and get a new paint job. Oh. The best part. When I pushed for the type of crown I wanted, David told me they would not do anything other than what was on that expensive piece of paper they came up with and I should go to another dentist. Their markup for zirconia is about 3 times what it costs at other dentists. And they probably won't do gold crowns because a lab would take a cut of the cost. I was referred to Dr. Mondavi's office through Medi-Cal but I have no idea why Medi-Cal patients are referred here because nothing is covered under Denti-Cal at this office. I went in because I had some fillings fall out and my teeth were starting to ache on my right side. After the consultation and x-rays he said I needed 3 teeth extracted, some cavity fillings, a deep cleaning and some crowns replaced. They don't do extractions at this office so I had to go to a different dentist in Long Beach for that. I had my next appointment at smiles west torrance a couple of weeks later and they said they were going to do a deep cleaning that wasn't covered by Medi-Cal but cost $360!! After it was done they gave me a return appointment for a month later with no mention of my cavities or crowns or any other work being done. Why are Medi-Cal patients being referred to this office if he doesn't cover anything under Medi-Cal? It seems to me that these doctors are corrupt and they refer Medi-Cal patients with no money so they can overcharge and get money from the insurance too. It was such a slap in the face too when they told me to come back in a month for regular cleaning after I paid $360 and of course, everybody working in there is snickering the whole time too they couldn't be bothered to provide good service even after being paid that much. Oh ya, and he didn't even polish my teeth either, you would think anyone being paid that much for a cleaning would go above and beyond but not here, you have to pay for the horrible treatment too. What a joke these dentists are, they couldn't care less about their patients unless they are being paid from both insurance and patients, but here you get treated like you are sub-human even after paying. read more

One word EXCELLENT! total staff goes out of there way to please. Very considerate of my money situation .. My whole process easy and affordable. Definitely felt like a value customer. I made a business trip to Torrance. In the middle of lunch, I cracked a back tooth. That was not good! I called Dr. Mondavi's office to see about an emergency visit. When I arrived the place was clean and professional looking. Their dental equipment looked new and modern. Although the office is very busy, the staff does their best to get you in and out within a reasonable amount of time. Dr. Mondavi was polite and professional. Although he sees many patients, you do not feel rushed by him or the staff. read more

short answer is with all the 5 star rated dentists near by theres no reason to take a risk here. the lower rating is not without cause the last straw: made an appointment to check on pain at a partial crown they installed 2 months earlier. they were very excited about replacing it until i told them they were the ones that put it in very recently. Then they were very insistent about how the problem was my fault and if i take asprin for a while it will go away. 10 days later at an appointment with the hygienist at the same location, he says that the same tooth i complained about is very infected and requires immediate treatment with antibiotics. being sent away with a infection with a recommendation to take asprin is irresponsible and dangerous and is a problem that should have been identified in an appointment made specifically to address pain at that tooth. . read more

I have terrible experience. The guy put me a lot anesthesia on my gums... and I been with pain for one week, they lie about I wouldn't be with pain for only two days and now my cheek is all purples and A big ball. read more

Dr. Robert Mondavi's Dental office recently contacted me about the previous poor review I gave them. A gentleman by the name of David called me to apologize about my previous bad experience. He informed me that they fired the girl at the front desk who was up selling the services there. He said he felt really badly & I feel like he was genuinely sincere. He also told me that they're under all new Management, and David will be over seeing all of the business operations. That being said, my previous review NO LONGER APPLIES-because they made changes for the better & got rid of the problems they used to have. I strongly recommend not going to this dentist! I was referred to this office through my HMO dental plan and first his assistant "David" took pictures of all my teeth before the dentist came in. When I asked David who he was and what his credentials awere he would not tell me but instead diverted the question with a joke saying "oh I do everything here, I swear I have a education" and started laughing. Might I add that this "David" character kept saying "those molars in the back look so yummy, what did you eat?" when referring to my molars that had plaque on them. How degraded that made me feel!! To make it worse I heard him say those words to the patient next to me too. How horrible. When Dr. Mondavi came in, he did not even look in my mouth but instead used the pictures that his assistant "David" took and said that I needed multple old fillings redone. I asked if there were any cavities and he said no. Why do I need my fillings redone if I have no pain and no cavities?? He said there was too much plaque and that it would eventually crack and I would need root canals. He also was very pushy telling me I needed GOLD fillings in particular, and when I said I only wanted white in my mouth he keep trying to sell me back to gold stating they were stronger. Those are $1000/peice and not what I want!! I told him I do not want gold in my mouth and then he states we need to do a crown instead which is another $500-1000. On top of all this, they told me I needed a deep cleaning which was an extra $80 out of pocket. So based on all of this the bill easily came to $2300, which I did not pay right away because I told them I had to think about everything he said. I left the office crying and tried to contact my dental insurance to investigate if all the billing was correct and found out they never gave me my paperwork!!! I only left with a bill of $2300. How convenient of them, lol. A few weeks later I unfortunetly was floshing my teeth and I chipped one of my fillings so I called in sick to work and returned to the dentist to get an emergency filling and thought I would get my deep cleaning done since I was there. I got my cleaning and then they completely forgot about my chipped filling!! I told them that I called in sick to work for this reason so please call the dentist!! and Dr. Mondavi comes in all panicked and states that this was my fault because I did not fix the problem the first time I came in and that I brought this on myself for waiting too long. He told me he needs to replace it with AGAIN a GOLD filling. I left the office crying again that day! I ended up going to another dentist the following week who fixed my chipped filling with a white one and states all my other teeth look fine. I paid a $250 out of pocket fee because it wasn't a dentist contracted with my HMO, but I left happy and taken care of. I REALLY question the ethical care that this doctor is giving to his patients. I question his intent, actions and behaviour. I am also very disappointed in that David charater (whoever he is) and also with the receptionsist. She runs the front desk but clearly needs more training in how to do that. I called her several times and requested to speak with her supervisor because she did not know many of my answers. Wow...this guys is threatening lawsuit if I do not remove my review!!!!!!!! I'm not the first, nor the last to give Mondavi a bad review. Since my last review, I've been contacted on 2 separate occasions by someone from Blue Sky Dental, stating that there's a new office manager and to please remove the review. I declined because I felt that as long as Mondavi was there, others should know about what he did to my son. But this is ridiculous! To sue people for sharing their experience of his own incompetence and unprofessionalism.......REALLY??!!!! The letter said that I was damaging his business and his name and it would cost me $370 in court fees just to file an answer to the suit and I would be subjected to "THOUSANDS AND POTENTIALLY TENS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS OF MONETARY DAMAGES" and my "CREDIT SCORE AND ABILTY TO GET ANY SORT OF FINANCING WILL BE SEVERLY IMPACTED." should the judgment result against me. ***yes it was in CAPS*** read more

What an awesome guy! I was having pain in my jaw for a couple weeks and never really took care of it because of my busy schedule but one day working in Redondo I noticed Dr.Mondavi's Dental office. I was not really expecting much attention since I was just a walk-in but Dr.Mondavi made sure I was taken care of. He took me to his consultation room, and within a couple minutes he was taking x-rays of me, informing me of why I was having pain and an appointment was made right there. No hassle, no problem. All it took was one consultation, and one appointment and I was back on my feet without any pain. He worked magic! Aside from all that, he is a cool guy, likes to laugh, smile and keep things positive; at the same time he knows how to get down to business and get things done on time. On top of that all! He has one of the nicest offices I have ever seen. Best dental experience I've ever had. I'm recommending him to all of my friends and family. read more

I wonder why all of the negative reviews. I have nothing but great things to say about this dental office. My daughter started off here but because of my dental plan changing, I started taking her to The Children's Dental group for ortho and regular dentistry services. I hated going there because they move their patients in and out like cattle with no personal connection. When I started a new job, I switched my daughter back over to Blue Sky Dental and I still love it!! It's been a year now and I have no complaints. I love this office especially because of the interpersonal relationships that all the staff have with the patients. They know who we are, greet us, and treat us like extended family. It reminds me of my old family dentist/orthodontist office growing up. I completely recommend this dental office. David and ALL of the staff have always been great!! read more
