Wow, how far Domaine Carneros has fallen is truly sad. I have been coming here since childhood (with about at 15 year break for obvious reasons). In the 90s and early 00s they allowed well-behaved kids, and I remember being enchanted by the sheep cutouts, the pate and cheese, and the beautiful fountain. We eventually stopped being brought around, but my parents stayed members for decades. When I returned as an adult as guests on my parent's membership, the visits were wonderful. Servers were warm, the wine was phenomenal, the view stunning, and the food always great. After years of joining my parents, I finally became a member myself. Since then, visits with my husband have been inconsistent. To be clear, WE are consistent- we dress well, behave respectfully, never overindulge, and tip generously. Most of the time service is attentive, we taste everything, order plenty of food, and buy lots of wine to take home. Friends have even joined because they loved the experience. But about a third of the time service feels strict, stingy, and inattentive, and I cannot understand why our treatment differs so much from my parents, even with the same servers. But, we came back again and again, because MOST off the time it's a dream. This past weekend, however, may cost them two memberships. We visited with two couples, one already a member and one interested in joining. We were dressed well, respectful, and ordered plenty of food. After asking for a couple more tastes to go with our next round, we were told there was a limit of four pours. When the server returned (I had asked for some time to reconsider the tastes if we were limited), she said three. Everyone agreed we were told four the first time. If this is a new policy, why did it change within minutes? Why weren't we informed the first time we asked to try something else? Service declined from there. No checking on shade, slow follow ups when we asked for additional accoutrements, and no water top offs unless we asked. We were absolutely mortified that our good friends we had invited had this as their first experience, after us spending years telling them about how magical it generally is here. We ended our visit early and spent our money at Iron Horse Vineyards, where we enjoyed hours of great wine and a beautiful view without being cut off. One of the couples actually ended up joining their wine club based on the stark differences. Domaine Carneros lost an additional membership, hundreds in purchases, and may lose two dedicated members. All it would have taken was a few more ounces and a little more time. When we visit wineries where we hold memberships, we expect to be treated as valued guests and to enjoy tasting as much of the menu as we can until we are finished. Little gifts sent to us on our membership anniversaries are cute, but where is that same sentiment when we're there in person? That doesn't seem like too much to ask for other wineries. I keep giving Domaine Carneros chances though, as I have so many amazing memories here. My parents were shocked when I told them. They had just visited and had the experience they have enjoyed for decades. So why didn't we? We now have to decide if keeping this membership is worth it. The wine is excellent and the views impeccable, but I am not sure I want to support a place that so clearly chooses who gets better treatment. read more

Stopped here for a Saturday afternoon wine tasting with some friends. The winery sits on a hill overlooking napa wine country, which is very beautiful. We tried a couple of their red wines and ordered a couple bottles of bubbly for the table, which were refreshing and not too sweet. We also ordered a charcuturie board, which I enjoyed. On my girls winery day, this was the fanciest place we visited. It almost felt like a resort. Think manicured lawns, elegant vibes, and pinky's up! We ordered the nuggets with caviar and tots. Five stars. My bestie is a member and a foodie like me. We were treated like VIPs on our hot girls date to Napa on a random Tuesday. We were greeted warmly and with genuine smiles. We sat outside on the patio with lots of umbrellas (gotta protect the skin!). We got the sparkling sampler and oh boy what a treat! We had a 2:30 PM reservation here for a party of six. Walking up the grand staircase at Domaine Carneros is so dramatic because you're completely surrounded by tailored topiary, blooming flowers, and lush green grapevines hugging both sides. The property is absolutely beautiful, and we had a fantastic tasting experience. Even as someone who isn't usually a big fan of champagne, the experience was still wonderful. Our server was sweet, attentive, and accommodating. We sat outside on the terrace, which was perfect even though it was scorching hot this weekend, getting to enjoy those stunning vineyard views made it completely worth it. Amazing winery. It was my second time here, this time for an anniversary. We did the sparkling wine tasting+oyster tasting, and everything was absolutely perfect. The day was sunny so the view from where we were sitting was extra beautiful. Wine was delicious and paired well with the oysters, just as the server recommended. I wish I remembered his name, he had a British accent and was extremely friendly; definitely added to this amazing experience. The oysters MELTED in our mouths, we ended up getting 2 dozen in total. We also got the puff pastry with smoked salmon+caviar. They were bite sized and tasted good, but didn't love the pastry. The price for the whole experience was definitely reasonable and I'll be back for it again soon. One small complaint is that the chairs for outdoor seating are not comfortable to me. So I reallly appreciated the chairs in the dining area, so I can enjoy the food, drinks, and scenery, all while being comfortable. read more

This winery is absolutely gorgeous! We came on a Spring sunny day so everything was golden and beautiful. We did the taste of Caribbean tasting, and the pairings were delicious. The wines - all sparkling - were also excellent. We also got to sample other wines as part of this paid experience. However, I would recommend visiting a smaller winery if you plan to do this one. It felt like this winery was very focused on the commercial aspect of the wine business. Our server basically talked through all the wines at once at the very beginning of the tasting and quickly left that I quickly forgot most of what he said midway through. Our whole experience was done in about 30 minutes and we had 60 minutes left... which was left to sampling the other wines but without any personal touch. This is quite a subjective point of view, but I prefer an experience where I am sitting with staff and learning about the wine making process and winery. 5 stars for the wines and view, 3 for the experience! read more

Reserved the $45 tasting online but was happy to find that we didn't all have to do the champagne tasting, as long as we spent the $45 per person minimum on consumables. Since this was our last stop of the day, we went with one glass of the Brut ($16) each to toast the birthday girl, the Caviar Flight that includes three 0.5 ounce jars of caviar, potato chips, toast points, Carr crackers, small bowl of crème fraiche and lemon wedges, and tried the salmon gougeres. While they had good flavor, they were on the drier side. We easily hit our minimum spend with the selection and enjoyed the French opulence, along with the cute goods for purchase on the way out. The first winery we checked out was Domaine Carneros. This place is beautiful and we came on a perfect day in Napa. I had a tasting of the merlots and they all tasted great. We had a total of four couples at this tasting. At first we only ordered two cheeseboards for the tasting, but since we feared it would not be enough, we ordered a third. The guy doing our tasting said three maybe too much. We then decided to order a fourth because we had four couples. The guy was again saying that was maybe too much. We ordered a fourth cheeseboard anyway and we are glad that we did. What came out was four of the smallest cheeseboards ever. Have driven by this place for years and finally went for a tasting - and had a great experience! We loved sitting on the patio and taking in the views. We enjoyed the sparkling and the red samples, as well as charcuterie board, and they were all great. The black noir sparkling is now one of my favorite's - we quickly bought a bottle! My partner and I visited this Winery recently on vacation while in Napa Valley, CA. This came highly recommended to us for both the wine and the views, and I can say it did not disappoint! When you first drive up to the winery, you are met with the beautiful building with cascading steps that seem right out of a painting! The property is undoubtably beautiful... it's literally a princess castle in the middle of vineyards! I'm not the biggest fan of sparkling wine but these were great! I'm disappointed that our server didn't really explain the sparkling wine flight as he was pouring. He was not very engaged, which is fine, but there are MUCH better tasting experiences in the valley. At the 50-minute mark we were also told another party needed our table, which totally took away from the experience. 3.5 but rounding up to 4. Domaine Carneros is a spectacle and it's no surprise; the property and views are stunning! As a result though, it definitely feels very touristy and packed. This is especially the case when you are waiting for your table and trying to snap some photos on the stairs. There was a bit of a hiccup with our reservation and we didn't get seated for over 20 minutes past our slotted time. Not the worst thing in the world since it was super hot outside, and the inside was nice and air conditioned. But it did allow me to notice how commercialized and crowded the place felt. It's basically a gamble with seating. The first time we came, we lucked out and got a beautiful terrace table overlooking the vineyards. This time, we got a table on the side which didn't have any sort of view at all. At least it was shaded, I guess. Maybe you can specify with the staff? I'd recommend to do so if it's your first time or if you want to ensure that you get what you're seeking out of this venture. We always opt for the sparkling chateau tasting and it never disappoints in terms of some good quality sparkling wine. I did notice that their pours seem to be more conservative compared to the past. The wine educators are always very pleasant and ours allowed us to sample an off menu champagne, which was the highlight of the experience. read more

I've visited Domaine Carneros at least four times over the years, and the wine has always been excellent. Unfortunately, the service has consistently fallen short of the quality of the winery itself. The staff at the front desk--the hostesses who greet guests--have never come across as particularly welcoming. On each visit they've seemed cold, curt, and, at times, a bit snobby. I was even a wine club member for a while, but I eventually canceled my membership because I never felt valued as a customer. We recently stopped by hoping to do a tasting or perhaps just enjoy a glass of wine. At most wineries in Napa, the staff will warmly explain the available options, even if they're fully booked. Instead, we were met with brief, curt responses that made us feel more like an inconvenience than welcomed guests. It's disappointing because the setting is absolutely beautiful, and the wines are consistently outstanding. If you are following, I am a red drinker. And since my last HI, AU, and NZ trips, I now drink a few (very few) whites. Of course it also depends on the food. Anyways, my wife and daughter wanted to bring our guest here at the last second.... So we bought each of them a glass and wandered the property. If you sit down on the outdoor terrace, it is a minimum of $45 per person (no minimum in the past) whether you drink or NOT. That would have been an expensive $250-$300 experience for only two drinkers in our group; no thanks. I know my daughter got the rose champagne and I am not sure what our guest got. They both seemed to enjoy it. Atmosphere - Again, our previous go-to place. But to be honest, I now prefer and have discovered SO many better (personal preference) wineries! Beautiful location, picture perfect, well if you can crop out HWY 12 from your pictures, lol. Not easy in and out today as we needed to make a left turn from downtown Napa.
