My family has known Roberto for decades. Some of us go to him consistently and others occasionally. He always welcomes us kindly. Recently I had gotten a really bad pixie with undercut haircut at Great Clips (see photos). It was so bad that I thought I would have to shave my whole head. I called Roberto and was able to get a same-day appointment. He did a phenomenal job fixing the mess. He's very gifted in texturizing hair and blending it in for a smooth flow. My hair immediately felt lighter and looked way better after his corrections (see photos). I would highly recommend him to anyone wanting an expert haircut. Tony saved my hair! I had damaged it using coloring products at home and ended up with broken ends and hair breakage all over my head. I tried going to a less expensive place to get a cut and they mangled it even further and still did not remove all of the broken ends, so it was continuing to get shorter. I decided to look up who was one of the best in the area and, even though this salon is over 40 min from my house, I'm SO glad I did! It was worth every penny and driving time. I walked in afraid to touch my hair it was so fragile, hiding what used to be fairly long hair by pulling it gently back and just generally not prepared to meet the world at a time that I very much need to look polished. I told him to cut off all of the fried things and then see what style he could create out of it. He is a true artist and very meticulous. He had a vision right away of a modern style that would work and look fantastic. He took the time to truly sculpt my hair. As a fellow artist, I appreciated his attention to detail and creative eye. So much hair had to be removed but I trusted him, I could just tell that he knew what he was doing. I left LOVING my new, modern cut and still love it. Even though the cut was already a huge investment for my grad student budget, I also purchased the tool he used, the Enzo Milano ...not sure what to call it...brush iron? It seems to also have been a good investment, high quality and makes it possible to get close to the same style as Tony did. Being new to the area, I feel like I found my hairdresser. I would give this place a 0 if I could, so rude. I had an appointment with Tony and he was 45 minutes late, then he had his co-worker do a test strip which was fine. But even after waiting and the test strip, Tony was still with another customer. Eventually Tony got to me and he took me to the sink to wash the strip out. Before he did this he said that he could not get my hair as light as I wanted it because he did not want to damage it, and I was fine with this. He then left me in the sink hair soaking wet (very uncomfortable, oldschool porcelain skinks) to take a personal phone call. By this time we were almost 2 hours in. I got up and told Tony and his co-worker that I was leaving. Tony started yelling at me to GET OUT, he thought I was upset because he wouldn't do my hair to the color I wanted but that was not the case, it was the waiting and unprofessionalism. His co-worker than began to yell and cuss at me and told me I was rude. He held the door open while I was trying to get my purse and jacket while still yelling at me. Roberto's Le salon is FANTASTIC! My hair was a mess of a grown out Mohawk and bad dye job. I made an appointment and was very hesitant to think anyone could work with and help my mess. Oh my goodness! Was I wrong! I have a beautiful marcelle wave of a perm, very 1920s just like I'm in love with, my hair feels healthier than ever, Tony and Roberto were absolutely amazing and very passionate about what they do. I will never go to another salon as long as I live! I cannot believe how amazing my hair looks! Please don't go to Ulta, or any of these other purposed high end salons, I've been to all of them and now I've found what a real high end salons actually is! I cannot recommend this salon. I made an appointment for a high light and new style from Tony and Roberto. I was led to believe that this was a reputable and professional establishment. Unfortunately, this has not been my experience. During the consultation I discussed with Roberto and Tony what end result I would like to achieve from the services. We discussed highlights and a new style. Roberto gave specific directions to his stylist, Tony. Tony applied some type of chemical product that damaged my hair and stripped of any color, to the point of having to cut 10" of length off. (I had very long hair) I stopped by the shop to show the results to them and was told to return for a Keratan treatment the next day. Tony did not show up for work that day. As a result of the damage my hair is dry, brittle, will not hold a style. Tony nor Roberto has responded to phone calls nor certified letters. Given this total lack of professionalism and malpractice, I cannot recommend this business. read more

Roberto is an inspired stylist. I was honestly moved by how deeply he cared that I like the way I look. And I got the best hair cut of my life. To start, Roberto asked me insightful questions to help me identify the hair style I wanted. His questions revealed a deep insight into personal aesthetics, an encyclopedic knowledge of hair styling, and a lot of sincere kindness toward me. Roberto measures each cut, and visualizes its place in the bigger picture, before each cut. Working, he looks just like a painter at a canvas. For 60 bucks, Roberto took almost 90 minutes to get every detail right. He shared a little bit of his beautiful life story w/ me--he's fostered over 80 children and overcame dyslexia to ultimately become a hair stylist for a few major pop culture icons. Funnily enough, I don't particularly care about hair. But I care about art and kindness. And it's too cool that there's a stylist like Roberto's plying his craft in a little Albuquerque studio. Never recommended a business so highly. read more

The owner is a complete asshole. Told my wife that the handicapped spot is not for her and belittled Argentina, (where my wife is from). I booked an appointment, based on the reviews, for a cut-n-color for my wife as a small present for her. She arrived on time and because she is legitimately handicapped, she parked in the open handicapped parking space out front. The man who performed her service was a very kind and capable gentleman whose name escapes me. While getting the hair done, the owner comes in and demands to know who is parked in the handicapped parking spot out front. My wife kindly lets him know that it's her vehicle there. He then decides it's time to get all dramatic and raises his voice so that everyone can hear him as he tells my wife "OH NO, THAT spot is only for TWO PEOPLE....MY WIFE and THIS WOMAN RIGHT HERE!!!" (The capitalization is where this overly-dramatic asshole stressed his words). He goes on to explain, using the same volume, that "this woman" was a valued customer who had been going there for years and that the spot was reserved for her OR is wife ONLY!, and nobody else. After being completely embarrassed by this clown's behavior, my wife calmly explains that she does have a handicap placard and was that handicapped spots were supposed to be first-come, first-served. He said that wasn't the case at HIS salon. The man working on my wife's hair even came to her defense because the guy was so out of line! After the owner had calmed down from that, he proceeds to ask my wife where she was from and she tells him that she came here from Argentina as a child. Because he's such an asshole, he decides this is the time to start belittling and stereotyping people. He badmouths Argentina and then tells her that "If an Argentinian man ever wanted to commit suicide, all he would have to do is jump off their ego". Her father, brother, and grandfathers are all Agentinain men. Sounds like a case of severe insecurity. I'm not sure what this man's issue is and I've no idea why he chose my wife to unload on, but it was a mistake on his part. Upon learning of this interaction when she came back home, I called down there and asked to speak with him. He said I was a liar when I asked about what happened, called my wife a liar, and then called me a moron for not knowing that he was joking and hung up. If he was truly joking about all of that, then why would he call my wife a liar? Seems like it happened just as she described. Anyways, the cut and color were decent, but the owner is a bigoted clown who stereotypes people and doesn't think handicapped people should be able to park in the spots required by the state and city. Those are only for his wife and his "valued customer". This is NOT the type of place I want to give my money to. You might want to think about who you give your money to as well. read more

My experience was fantastic. I love my color today! It has so much dimension and my hair feels so soft and healthy. This salon uses a great line called Milk Shake. Tony has great work ethic and is really fun and easy to talk to. All around great job. I'm excited to see what he does next. read more

What a nice morning spent at Roberto's Le Salon! My sister-in-law recommended Roberto for perm. I went there with lifeless hair, not really knowing what I needed/wanted. After a quick chat, Roberto told me to leave it to him. That is what I did and the outcome is so impressive! It's a cute place too. You wouldn't think that mattered but since salons are all about appearance (and enhancing inner beauty) I believe it does matter. Roberto's has a sweet garden with a tranquil water feature that separates it from San Mateo. The various rooms inside open and cozy. I'm going to start calling it a boutique salon. Truly, the best part of the experience was talking with Roberto and, his wife, Linda. These are good people with interesting life experiences and perspective. I walked in to the salon with my hair damaged and a mess! While Tony was assigned to work a miracle on my hair (which was much needed) Roberto checked on me throughout the whole process. Quite possible the worst haircut I have ever had. Roberto is a sweet man, but he managed to cut all the curls and waves out of my hair and leave a lopsided mess of frizz. In New York two weeks later I had to have a drastic intervention. Roberto is the only stylist I have ever absolutely loved! I brought in a picture of what I wanted and Roberto cut it exactly like the model's. I have thick wavy hair so he made modifications to the hair cut so that it would lay exactly the same. I got so many compliments after getting my cut here. I was almost ready to give up on my hair after leaving Aveda so many times and feeling super disappointed. I recommend this guy to everyone in Albuquerque. I live in San Francisco now and still contemplate flying back to NM just to get a haircut from Roberto. The prices are great, he offers drinks, and is super friendly. read more

I loved my cut, but he over processed my color, and for the past 1-1/2 months I have been dealing with huge sores on my scalp and very brittle hair! Because of my scalp I can't get it colored now and I look like a calico cat! It's just a mess! And the wonderful cut has grown out! I paid over $300 for this bad experience! Too bad that young lady was closed minded. I have gone to Robertos Salon and found it to be a beautiful experience. He has a beautiful gift and intuition about people.
