Came for their taco special, but unfortunately this visit wasn't the best. The chicken tacos were disappointing..the chicken was very dry and lacked flavor. The taco shell also wasn't the crunchy texture you'd expect. Instead, it was hard but still had that slightly undercooked, chewy texture, which made it even less enjoyable. We also ordered the asada fries, hoping they would make up for the tacos, but those fell a bit flat as well. The overall dish just felt boring and didn't have much flavor or excitement to it. Roberto's can be hit or miss depending on the location and the day, but this time around the food just didn't live up to expectations. Last time I ordered from here, I got the hard-shell chicken taco, and the smell was off, like the chicken had gone bad or something. I scooped the chicken out and just used the shell as chips with the salsa. Also, the younger girl who works there with the piercings and tattoos (I don't know her name) has an awful attitude and absolutely NO phone etiquette. Lastly, I don't know who's making the hot carrots, but please stop drowning them in vinegar. They smell and taste like straight vinegar. Knock it off. So sad about this update.... I ordered a beef quesadilla with beans and rice to go on Uber Eats. The staff packaged all items together and the quesadilla was completely soggy from the beans and how hot everything was packaged, inducing additional moisture. Have always liked this location, but the last time I went (on taco Wednesday) , the girl taking the money and handing out orders wasn't very friendly. I ordered 20 chicken tacos and asked for green salsa. I asked for a little bit more and she said she already put a lot in the bag..I said well I have 20 TACOS..she continued to argue with me about GREEN SALSA and how many I should need! Come on now. I haven't had Roberto's in several years! I was craving some rolled tacos on a Tuesday for lunch and decided to stop by Robertos Taco Shop! This location is inside the Fabulous Freddy's quick station, next to Splash, off of Grand Montecito Parkway. You can get here by taking the 95N/Durango exit. The parking spots are relatively limited since there are only a few spots for the quick station. When you walk inside the Fabulous Freddy's, Robertos Taco Shop is off to the right. This location is open 24 hours a day. We ended up getting some food pretty early in the day, around 9:00 A.M on a Tuesday. I was hungry!! Roberto's Taco Shop offers a lot of delicious items such as tacos, burritos, enchiladas, quesadillas, rolled tacos and so much more! Come to find out, Roberto's Taco Shop had a Tuesday deal for 3 rolled Taco combo for $6.60! It was such an amazing deal! My husband ended up getting a enchilada styled burrito combo. While we waited for the meal, we ended up looking at the Splash Soda Drink place next door. The wait wasn't too long for the food, less than 10 minutes. We brought the meals home and was pleasantly surprised by the quantity and quality for the food, especially with how inexpensive it was! The rolled taco combo I had was scrumptious! I had the chicken rolled tacos with cheddar cheese, no guacamole. Refried beans and rice was included in the combo. The meal was quite filling. I didn't have room for anything else the rest of the day! The chicken rolled tacos were delicious. Perfectly fried and just enough cheddar cheese on-top. I had some extra Sour Cream that I put on top of it too! My husband enjoyed the burrito! It was loaded with meat. The burrito was also on top of a cheese enchilada! So disappointed with the sausage breakfast burrito I received today. I've always gone here in the past for breakfast burritos specifically so I'm quite familiar with how they SHOULD taste. It used to come with chunks of sausage & a great amount of cheesy eggs.. worth every penny. The price has increased tremendously & I received a burrito with basically only UNDERCOOKED POTATOES. I'm from so cal so my standards are pretty high when it comes to Mexican food. I have to say this place was fantastic. The mixed burrito with shredded beef had a lot of meat in it and the shrimp cocktail was great tasting with some spice to it. My husband had the Cali burrito and said it was fantastic, adding that it had no fat pieces on the carne asada. My daughter had a bean and cheese burrito and said it was the best she's had. This was our go to for fast and friendly Mexican fast food. Unfortunately they had their phone off the hook for more than 20 min, my BF drove down and ordered our normal carnitas nachos, carne asada and shrimp burrito. The nacho chips were stale, the meat was cold, no guac or sour cream, the carne asada meat wasn't even close to normal! This was a place I went a lot a while back. However, it has declined over the years. The prices went up, asada fries went from 9 to 14.50 for a now undercooked meal. Fries are rarely cooked well and most importantly of all the customer service is terribly bad. There is one cashier named Eduardo who is the only cool cashier and is really nice. Every other cashier gives you super rude attitude for no reason. Ordering your food they will roll ur eyes at you and this once they messed up my food I kindly asked for them to fix it. They rolled their eyes bickered back and I tried to be polite as possible. In the end they remade it but the cashier walked away and shook her head. ( I ate the food but I honestly didn't trust it). Robertos is one of two shops here that I would vouch for and defend. What do you have to say about yours, hm? Location and Parking Situation? I guess the donut shop next door didn't get the memo, but when you're located inside of a gas station, it's kind of your job to stay open, like, all the time. Robertos? Open basically all the time so I can order my carne asada fries or California burritos WHENEVER. I. WANT. All while filling up gas no less. Conveniently also part of the large shopping area next to Smith's this means there is always parking and people coming in and out so don't forget to bring your masks while you gas up and food up. My Go-Tos Carne Asada Fries. These are consistently delicious; packed with french fries, guac, sour cream, cheese, and topped with hot carne asada! One way I have it prepped is without beans and for crispy fries as a request. Why? This is just how I've found to enjoy mine the most over the years. Generous size and always a quick prep, you won't find yourself waiting long, unless the line is long, that's a different story. I will also run with carne asada burritos as those are pretty consistent and juicy with flavor. What does that mean? No dryness as far as I've come here with every bite. I would say I'm pretty picky with my Mexican food, so it's good to find a place with flavors of home. Price? Reasonably priced, quick stops for food and nothing outrageous. I would compare to most other shops like Algobertos and you'll see the pricing is rather similar. Overall thoughts? Solid, you won't go wrong deciding to stop by for some burritos and fries after a long night of whatever it is that you do. I haven't tried the tacos, but not everyone tries pancakes at a pancake house, so I don't have that obligation to do so either. I would say I order from here at least several times a month and what makes them so appealing is their late night hours.
