On our most recent visit to Roberto's, I ordered the Grilled Shrimp Quesadilla while Becky chose the Carne Asada Rice Bowl. Two items we had not yet tried in our many visits to Roberto's. We sat at the little bar and each had a pint of Pacifico while we waited for our to-go order to be prepared. The quesadilla was a large flour tortilla stuffed with shrimp, Pico and melted cheese. It was cut into four large pieces. The shrimp were plump and perfectly grilled. The cheese was melty with that great cheese pull, and I really liked the addition of the Pico. The portion size was generous for the price. I got two meals out of it. The carne asada bowl was huge. It fed Becky four times. It was packed with flavors. There was a lot going on in the bowl. Generous helpings of carne asada, beans, rice, Pico, and guacamole. I was pleased to see it served in a tin rather than Styrofoam as my quesadilla was. That's really my only complaint about Roberto's, the use of Styrofoam. It is just not conducive to hot foods. read more

Probably the toughest Carne Asada in Santee. I had it there twice now because the first time was incredibly tough, but I figured it was a bad day. That wasn't the case as today it was incredibly tough as well. This surprises me because Roberto's Carne Asada has historically been good. read more

Unfortunately both my wife and I got sick from something in the food, it was either the Carne or the red salsa that got us. Those were the only two things we both had. The food tasted good and service was prompt and friendly. This is a taco shop with some tables and rather uncomfortable chairs. read more

Placed a take out order today that I picked up at 4:41. The order was asada burrito and bean and cheese burrito with extra carne asada. It started with asking for hot sauce and when I got home it was 6 green. Upon reaching for the burrito's, they were both ice cold. I called back 4:51, letting them know. The person on the phone could not speak English and told me to hold. They put the phone down and then hung up. The interesting fact is the cashier was Diana Zamora and there were no females in the restaurant. Also, noticed there was about 1.5 lbs of cooked carne asada sitting to the right of the grill. It looked dead! The burritos went in the trash in fear of food borne illness and I'm out $26.39 and no dinner. I won't be returning. read more

This spot is by a barber shop I go to. Figured I would try it as a quick lunch after a haircut. They had 5 rolled potato tacos under $8. I nabbed a large jamaica with it. The tacos were freshly cooked, hot, and delicious. The red sauce that came with it gave an extra flavor of deliciousness. I need to come back here soon and try their other items. read more

This place is by our house and is consistently good, has similar prices to other taco shops, and the staff are friendly.

We tried the Burrito, and I had the Fish Soft Taco, which I loved. However, the beef bowl with avocado, beans, rice, peppers, and tomatoes in this shop, it felt like too much going on flavor-wise. On the bright side, we enjoyed the delicious pineapple juice. The server is nice and I asked to get another Juice and he said pay after when we are done, he told me next time. Since 1964, Robert's Taco Shop has been making great Mexican fast food in San Diego. Today's visit taught me that they are still making that very good quality Mexican eats. That being said, I had the bacon and eggs breakfast burrito with cheddar cheese and potatoes. The was not only large but under $10 at $8.95 which is hard to find these days in San Diego. I loved that the bacon was thick and had a great chew, not to mention crispy as well. The eggs were well scrambled and seasoned. The potatoes were good but were over done and super soft. They put a good amount of cheese in the burrito and the giant flour tortillas has that nice buttery texture. I had the burrito with both the red and green hot sauces. The red house was delicious and as I remember it visiting Roberto's around San Diego in years past. Service was very friendly and the peeps in the kitchen had a very good senses of humor. I hope they upgrade the furniture because it's still the old stuff from the previous business. They need to go with those traditional red seats. read more

Ah yes, Rubber Toes, welcome to Santee. I heard you just opened and steadily getting foot traffic as word gets around. You know what that means? A longer wait time than usual and less parking for the other strip mall tenants, at least until the initial hype simmers down. I don't think they were expecting the volume of apparent local fans for one of the OG __berto's taco shops. I imagine they'll sort out the staffing issue. Food was very good and I will return to check out more classic taco shop snacks. I appreciate that the menu is basic and not cumbersome to read, but on the flip side, misses out on creativity or enticing new bites to try. For a day-one opening, what we ordered was delicious. Carne asada burrito was yummy as expected and the rolled tacos had a nice crispy crunch, filled nicely with shredded beef, and topped with fresh guacamole, lettuce, shredded cheddar and cotija cheese. The dining room looks to be a work in progress. I noticed a beer bar, but not in service yet, and I'm not sure if a salsa bar or fountain soda pops will be available, but there are soft drink options in the fridge by the ordering counter, or a few steps away at 7-Eleven next door. Other notables at this time: * TV playing a movie (Titanic btw) * Patio table seating * No drive-thru * No kids menu * No Taco Tuesday or other specials posted The question is longevity. When Robertos came to Santee it was amazing. The food tasted good, the burritos were a very nice size, and they were $10...... Unfortunately, the food quality has gone down, the prices have gone up ($13), and the food just doesn't taste as good. I genuinely don't like to write reviews. Especially negative ones for that matter. I just think that most could agree with the fact that a majority of restaurants have inflated their prices and the quality of the food has gone down. Specifically, Taco Shops around San Diego. After my order of two carne asada burritos and 5 rolled tacos tonight, I have made the hard choice to not go back to Roberto's Taco Shop in Santee again. Uhhhh, it's literally located right down the street from where I live. The burrito's were really skinny, the meat was bland, and the rolled tacos were rubbery. I have pictures of one of the burritos and I'm gonna try to figure out how to upload them. I didn't get a picture of the other burrito because my daughter ate it in the other room. All in all, even though I'm very disappointed in the prices and quality of the food, I'll go spend $16 for a Carne Asada burrito at Syulita's because at least I know I'm gonna get a big burrito that tastes good and will likely have to eat it in two sessions. Santee has quite a few taco shops. After 2 months of moving to Santee I had lost hope that I would find a good taco shop in town. But all hope was restored when I went to Roberto's. The rolled tacos were just like the ones I used to enjoy at a Kearny Mesa Roberto's location 40 years ago. I was thrilled to see they hadn't changed their already delicious recipe. For the many people that have grown up in SD, Roberto's has always been where to find great food, cleanliness and friendly staff. It takes more than a sign in front to truly be "Roberto's Taco Shop" I was disappointed by the lack of cleanliness, how I could not get a response to a menu question and by an undisclosed 3% credit card surcharge. As is customary, you tip when you pay - before the food is prepared. The food was not up to standard. When I got home, my receipt showed I was charged 3% - even on the tip I gave prior to even tasting my food. That left an even worse taste in my mouth. I hope things get better. I will try Roberto's Santee again in the future. read more

Since moving to Santee years ago, it has been a long time since I had food from Roberto's. The food did not disappoint at all! The rolled tacos were excellent and vert meaty. The guacamole was excellent and the hot sauce was a good as I remember. The only disappointment was they messed up my wife's order, but she still ate the food and enjoyed it. First time getting food here. It's good. Carne asada fries. Menu said it came with beans. It does not. A minor disappointment.

The staff here is friendly, the food is good and priced right, and they have $3 beer all day every day. What is there not to love. The inside has booths and is nicer than a standard taco shop. Always enjoy coming here. read more

First review tried this place for the first time...got a breakfast burrito to play it safe was a 8/10 wasn't a fan of chucks of potatoes I prefer hash browns but that's just a preference.
