I recently had Robert's Heating and Air come out to replace a simple capacitor. What should have been a straightforward repair quickly turned into a long, frustrating experience that raised several red flags about their competence and business practices. During the initial visit, the technician began "checking things out" and making various adjustments throughout the system, including changing damper settings and inspecting unrelated components. Not long after this visit, my system began freezing up--a problem I had never experienced prior to their work. I called the company back, and to their credit, they responded promptly and sent another technician. However, this technician admitted he couldn't even locate all the dampers in the system and ultimately did not fix the problem. After yet another call, the same technician returned. This time, instead of revisiting the damper issue, he began "checking my system" again and diagnosed a faulty valve, estimating nearly $1,000 for the repair. Before I could even decide whether to move forward with the valve replacement, I was suddenly being told I likely needed to replace the entire HVAC system, with quotes ranging from $15,000 to over $21,000. When I didn't immediately commit to those numbers, I was sent another quote -- but this one completely omitted the valve replacement option and only included full system replacement costs. At this point, I felt something was off. I called a different company for a second opinion. Their technician inspected the system, closed a single damper, and my system has worked perfectly ever since. I can't say for sure whether the dampers were intentionally adjusted to create a larger issue or if it was simply negligence, but either way, it's unacceptable. What I can say for certain is that my system is now fully operational -- and Robert's Heating and Air is no longer my service provider. If you're considering working with them, I'd strongly recommend getting a second opinion before agreeing to any major repair or replacement. read more

We have used Roberts for years for all things HVAC and received excellent service from technicians, especially Denver. We also take advantage of their annual maintenance agreements which make sure evertything remains running smoothly. Recently, the need to replace water heaters surfaced and we used Roberts plumbing service for the first time. The tanks were removed and installed with the great care. One heater was tankless and required highly skilled technicians. Sam Caldwell is a master plumber and did these jobs very well and was assisted by journeyman and apprentice Brittany. I had a problem in the summertime and they came out the same day and I signed up to be on their maintenance plan.

I would like to preface this by stating I've used this company for many years without any issues. Requested a service on the 8th of May for the following day. Tech came diagnosed the problem and gave me a quote. I authorized the repair, (a little over $1,900. And was informed it was going to be a special order part and may need some locating. Not a problem I completely understood. This was also a Friday so I wasn't worried about the wait, but was told I'd get an update possibly Monday. Waited till Tuesday afternoon, and called to see where we stood, and if there was any luck in locating the part. Parts guy called Wednesday with an update that he should know something by Friday. Cool no problem. Also keep in mind the blower motor assembly was sitting on the floor. Called for a status this morning (Monday May 19th) was told the gentleman was in a meeting and she would give him the message, that was 8am. Herd nothing by 3, called to leave a message for tech to don't bother and cancel order. At which time the Young lady snipped at me it wasn't her fault I didn't get a call back. I tried to apologize and explain that I understood and just wanted the message to be passed on. Well she kept on till I finally said don't send anyone back, with a nasty word put in and I hung up. So if you want to have your air conditioner took apart and left in pieces for 10 days, and then be made to feel like a schmuck for wanting timely updates, BY ALL MEANS CALL ROBERTS HEATING AND AIR CONDITIONING in Gulf Shores. read more

I had a capacitor changed on my outside AC unit & for this service Roberts presented a bill of $376! I posted a comment on our community Facebook page asking for others feedback on this, I was told by others they'd paid no more than $180 for this same part w/service call with other companies. I researched this& found on Trane's website that it should cost between $150 & $250, with the part itself costing around $20! I sent complaint email to them, the G.M. wrote back about the cost of doing business & telling me that has I been a "member " (?) I would've pd between $250-$275, but I was never told about any "membership plan. Let me now update this review, Robert's G.M. refunded $287 and only charged me the $89 service call! I now say that is a most mature and very businesslike way to handle this problem. I sent back an email apologizing for the last email which was quite threatening in its tone, I then explained why I felt the way I did and offered some, what I thought were good business type suggestions to improve their service and their image, I encouraged him to contact the people who wrote the negative reviews and try to make it right with them and try to earn back their business as this will go miles towards getting back their previous good name in our community; I wish them well and will use them in the future should I see they have made needed changes. read more

Unfortunately they incorrectly installed a brand new HVAC unit for our home so that the unit was dripping water into our walls on our second floor. This happened for months and we became aware when water started dripping into our first floor ceiling. They said they would remediate it. We left for the summer because of a family member who is immunocompromised and can't be exposed to mold. Came back and the house was full of mold. They only repaired one closet and the rest of the area had not been repaired. A subsequent mold test by their own hired contractor indicated a significant mold problem (after weeks of waiting). They said the couldn't approve mold remediation or repairs until the mold test was "approved and reviewed" by corporate. Then when we said we needed to move forward with removing the damaged walls because it had been months they said they were "referring us to their legal team". When we asked if the unit was installed by a licensed professional given the mistakes made in installation that damaged our home they said that question was not relevant. Robert's AC was sold last fall, right before they did work to replace all copper lines at Island Shores Condo complex at gulf shores. The old company had a good reputation but the work they did for us was horrible. About half the copper line driers (out of 60) were not replaced, even though it was in the bid to replace all driers. By that point, we had been lied to so many times by Robert's employees that we had to pay another company $1500 to check each unit to see if a new drier was installed or not. Up to that point we were told by Robert's employees that it was only a "few" that were not replaced. As any reputable air conditioning tech will tell you, new driers must be installed any time copper lines are opened up or you run the risk of contaminants getting into the compressor. We now have ticking time bombs with potential future compressor failures due to the Robert's AC negligence. We will NEVER use them again! Avoid unless you want a shabby job! read more

They have consistently provided excellent & reliable service to us coming out very quickly even on weekends when we've had a problem from time to time. Excellent service. Technician was able to come out and temporarily get our 15 year old unit going and came back a few days later and installed a new Trane unit with a better warranty and lower price than the competition. Would highly recommend! read more

Avoid this company. My 89 yr old father was having problems with his heat pump tripping the electrical breaker. Rather than fixing the root cause, which was an incorrect hard-start kit on the unit, the AC technician installed a new breaker in the breaker panel. Why is an AC technician doing the job of an electrician? At any rate, the breaker later caught on fire and scorched the entire breaker panel, which had to be replaced. Thankfully there was no house fire! This company would not take responsibility or pay for any of the repairs and avoided further phone calls, until my father called on a different phone. At any rate, avoid this company. read more
