While camping at Mongaup Pond, we found a 70s-style diner that's now our breakfast favorite. The omelettes were hearty, and the coffee was so good we had to go back the next day. My buddy and I love checking out new diners. Every trip we go on we scour reviews, websites etc looking for some awesome diners...thats how we found this one! We went for lunch and when you first walk in its super cute and that old school diner style you expect if that makes sense. Super cute and our server was the sweetest woman and made some jokes when asked if were ready and we said noy yet she came back and said times up and laughed we enjoyed it! The food was great. My three girlfriends and I absolutely loved the vintage, cozy, feel of this classic diner. We were staying in nearby Roscoe and came across the small wonderful town of Livingston Manor. We had a great lunch here that was delicious and very reasonable. The waitress was very pleasant and attentive. It was a great experience. Everyone there is so nice and accommodating. The charm of the place alone will sweep you away to where things were of simpler times. There's not a 20 page menu that takes you an hour to navigate, but a decent selection of delicious homestyle cooked meals. Don't forget to order one of the wonderful thick milkshakes! If all you want is a solid breakfast, served without fanfare or drama, this is it. I had a mushroom omelette with Swiss cheese, and my husband had eggs over medium with hash browns. The food was good and the service great. One of the servers called in sick that morning, so the owner was working by himself, taking orders, cooking, cashing out--pretty amazing performance to watch! The menu was sparser than I'm used to seeing at a diner. E.g., white toast only. And it had lots of notices that if it wasn't on the menu, it wasn't available. And no substitutions. We didn't try to test it. It is also a cash only establishment with no ATM in sight. read more

Rude service. Stole $20 from me. It's cash only so I had to hit the ATM, pulled out $60 and was handling loose cash as I approached to pay. I placed $40 on the counter which was immediately put in the register for a $30 tab. The crotchety waitress then told me that she only took one 20. I explained that she had taken two, as I only had one left. She shut the till and said I still owed $10. This was after the worst service I've ever received. If you don't want to work in the service industry, do everyone a favor and quit. read more

Cute and delicious. I've been coming here with my family for the last several years and they have yet to disappoint us. Everything here is homemade so it's tastes fresh and wonderful. The staff is one big old family which is great because they treat you like family too. Whenever I get the chance to come to Livingston manor whether it's with friends or myself, I always stop by! Very kind people and very quick with the service. I highly recommend if you are in the area. P.S. Robin Hood Diner is one of those hidden gems that is what makes a town special. For Livingston Manor, it is a cornerstone. I have always passed this diner on the way to my parents house right off of Rt 17. One day, when my girlfriend and I were spending the weekend up at their house, we decided to go for breakfast at Robin Hood. The diner has a very comfy feel to it and has extremely friendly staff. The prices are unbeatable and the food is always leaving you satisfied. I always get the 3 pancakes and 2 eggs breakfast. As long as I am in Livingston Manor, I will be coming here for a great breakfast and a hot cup of coffee. They also have a bar next door and a bigger dining area for lunch. Give this place a try you will not be disappointed. read more

We stopped here for breakfast and were pleasantly surprised. We're in the area for our honeymoon and didn't figure we'd be wowed by any culinary experience since we're in a small town. This place was a great find. A classic diner experience with AMAZING FOOD. I ordered a ham and swiss omelette with bacon and I can't remember the last time such simple food tasted so good. In a time when we're used to restaurants getting their ingredients from the same suppliers and, this, tasting the same Robin Hood Diner reminded me of breakfasts made by family when I was young. Stopped in after a long hike with my buddy yesterday. Saw a sign "world's best coffee". I immediately ordered a cup and thought the citgo station down the road. Ould be better. My second cup was freshley brewed and tasted better. It was ok but not world's best. The vanilla milkshake was served in the stainless mixer cup with a 12oz tumbler. It looked like milk slush, no creaminess it thickness. I ordered a turkey Reuben which wasn't on the menu. I am guessing I am the first person to ever do this at this establishment because when the waitress handed The Cook The Ticket the entire restaurant heard him yell turkey Reuben? And then as he was putting the bread on the grill he said it again and shook his head like it was an anomaly. There was no thousand island dressing on the Reuben, the waitress just handed me a squeeze bottle of it. The service was just adequate, the fries were about the most exciting part of the experience. When we passed it earlier in the morning it looked busy for breakfast. My guess is I will not be visiting this Diner again read more

It was the closest place to eat when a group of my friends were traveling to Canada. The food was mediocre and the place looks like it hasn't been cleaned in a long time. Onion rings: lacks flavor Clam chowder: tastes okay Meatloaf: seems frozen and then topped with gravy Shrimp Parmesan: no flavor and the sauce was watery Overall, just don't go there. Food - Probably the worse diner food we had ever. My fried chicken was only 20% edible as most of it was fatty and soggy inside. Maybe the chicken was frozen, not sure how they manage to get the inside soggy. Chicken definitely didn't taste fresh. Sandwiches were so unimpressive, just plopped together like they didn't care. New England clam chowder was not fresh either, smelled too fishy to be fresh. Milk shake was only 3/4 full, like they ran out of chocolate milk. Robin Hood is the place you come to because it's the only one you've seen anywhere nearby on your way to/from the Catskills. It's old, a little crude at times, unapologetic, and probably doesn't change much from decade to decade. It has signs on the wall that have hung there long before you were born and may even hang there after. That being said, the fried mozzarella sticks and curly fries are on point. The turkey club sufficed, but left me thinking something grilled or fried would have played more into the diner's strengths. Let's the start with the vibe. Definitely vintage. They kept that nostalgic diner vibe which is a plus to me. Coming from the diner capital of the US, I think I can safely say I'm a diner connoisseur. The food was great! I just had a basic omelette with a side of bacon and sausage, so unless its all burnt, then you can't really go wrong with that. The service was ok. Yes, it's all true, the husband and wife who runs the place were a little brash, but it's not offensive if that makes sense. It's very typical diner - even in NYC or NJ! So I guess you can say I'm used to it. But it's just a facade. They treated me nicely - even though I DEFINITELY stood out in the crown, if you know what I mean. The lady (Jan, I think is her name) even joked with me, so I felt welcomed and made me comfortable. I will bypass the tone and just go with the food and the fast service. I will be back! read more

This review comes with a warning. Do not expect ambiance and glamor. The best description is KITSCH. Check out the back room for all the 50s memorabilia. But the food is what counts. We ordered Stuffed Cabbage and Beef Goulash. Both were homemade, I am told, by Grandma (age 90) in the kitchen. The meal was like sitting in someone's kitchen for dinner....along with conversation from the owner and his son. If you need the bathroom, I might try a local gas station. read more

Such an interesting place! A real down home joint. For it's atmosphere I would give it 4 stars, but the food was okay. The service was friendly as mentioned in other reviews--when I noticed my burger was almost rare on the inside and I asked to have it cooked a little longer, they were very nice about it and I appreciated that a lot since I always feel bad asking! The cole slaw was pretty delish. I wish I had the breakfast though, didn't realize you could order it for lunch otherwise I would have! They have a resident cat. I love cats so it was a nice bonus, but don't be surprised if the cat pops up around your ankles during the meal! read more
