Deb, Lauren & Mercy took wonderful care of us. This evening we loved the soup sampler ( Fr onion, salmon chowder, & roasted red pepper), honey pecan chicken (Mmmm!) and brisket tacos. Had a really long and terrible day at work. My husband took me here because he knew I had been wanting to try it and wanted to do something special. Our waitress was really unfriendly and inpatient. Threw our napkins on the table. Stood a few feet away from us talking to co workers and never came to our table. I tried to give her the benefit, considering I had a bad day too. But all in all, it pretty much ruined our experience. Food was good. We didn't have anything fancy. But I'm sorry to say, we won't be back. read more

MOUNT HOLLY: we finally went to Robin's Nest Restaurant for their Yappy Hour in late-July! It was a fun event to raise money for Paw It 4ward Foundation and there were a few cute doggies to pet! Robin's Nest has dog friendly outdoor seating on the top deck with views of the picturesque creek. The menu is a bit elegant and mouthwatering. The atmosphere felt like we were in the country - so scenic and peaceful! We plan to visit Mount Holly again soon - the town is just too cute and we want to explore more! read more

I went to the Robin's Nest for dinner today with a friend, after not going there for many years. We didn't get any drinks or appetizers, just iced water in a carafe, served with lemon slices on the side. I tried the cream of asparagus soup and it was very good--just the right amount of creamy--not too thick or rich. I got a cup but could have easily eaten a bowl of it. I had the Caesar salad for my dinner. It was a large portion, and had shaved Parmesan on top, and homemade croutons. They were both very good. The dressing was a little odd. It was kind of like a thin, slightly creamy balsamic. They only gave me one little plastic cup on the side for this huge salad. I had to ask for more. It still wasn't really enough and I don't like my salad drenched in dressing. I didn't bother asking for more because it was lacking flavor. I would have rather had classic Caesar dressing that has that rich, complex cheesy, anchovy flavor. My friend had the Impossible burger and she said it was good. I tried her sweet potato fries and they were tasty, but quite salty. The desserts looked great so we indulged. I had the rich chocolate cake. I don't remember the name. It was a huge piece that could have easily been shared. I took part of it home. It was homemade and was definitely good, just not great for me, based on how good it looked. My expectations were high and it missed the excellent mark. It was cold because it had whipped cream icing so had to be refrigerated. I don't think cold cake has as much flavor as room temperature. I usually heat mine up for about 6-10 seconds in the microwave before eating it. It brings out the flavor more. My friend got the Limoncello cake. I tasted it. It was more like a lemon flavored cake with icing, and a crumb topping. It's not what I'm used to having, that's considered Limoncello cake, at least not what Italian restaurants serve. I much prefer the authentic Italian version that's really lemony. Overall, I was not wowed by the desserts, and a bit disappointed after anticipating how they would taste based on how they looked. They definitely looked better than they tasted. For one cup of soup, a salad, Impossible burger, and two desserts our check was $58 and change. So it wasn't really expensive but not cheap either. I understand everything has gone up in price and I don't mind paying for it as long as it's really good. While the Robin's Nest portions are large, the flavors were not excellent. I thought the menu was on the small side too, only like 10 entrees, 4 salads, and 5 sandwiches so not a lot of choices and no daily specials, only soup of the day. The decor is cute and I liked the dark, cozy ambiance. Even the bathroom was adorable. Our waiter was pleasant and attentive. If I was in the area I might try the Robin's Nest again, but wouldn't go out of my way to go back there based on the food. read more

I used to love this place - so when my friends wanted to go somewhere different for brunch, I suggested it. I was so disappointed and frankly embarrassed that I made the recommendation. It had been awhile since I'd been there, so was disappointed to learn that they no longer served their herbal ice tea and that it was now served from the bar (basically bagnbox tea) and that they no longer had their desert tray that always had their desserts so beautifully displayed. Aside from that, the brunch was also disappointing. 2 of us had their basic breakfast of 2 eggs, toast, potatoes and bacon. I've never been served breakfast with only one piece of toast... My friend who ordered the sampler which included french toast, got only one piece. My other friend order the frittata with crab meat, only to have no crab meat in it. We will not be back here for brunch anytime soon. read more

In town from Georgia and stopped by for dinner. So many delicious flavors. The roasted brussel sprout w truffle oil appetizer was delish and a very generous portion - plenty for several people as an appetizer. We both had Moroccan Tagine with carrot salad for our entrees. The waitress said as she served it, that the tagine was slightly spicier than usual, which turned out perfect for us. It was not overpowering at all, rather was a complex blend of savory flavors. A perfect dish for warming up on a chill evening. The carrot salad it came with was no question the most delicious way to eat carrots. Finished off with shared wonderful pumpkin cheese cake and Vince's luxurious butter pecan ice cream for a delightful dinner out. Made all the sweeter by the lovely staff and manager. I was in town on business and wanted to find a local place to grab dinner alone. This was the perfect find! It had a super laidback vibe, felt like a place that has a lot of "regulars". The Robin's Nest is the place to go if you have a sweet tooth or want a nice meal. I've been there for both brunch and dinner and found both menus to be a little overpriced. For brunch I got the veggies bowl with egg whites a truffle oil. The truffle oil was good but overwhelming because of how much was in the bowl. For dinner, I had a dinner salad with grilled chicken. It was decently priced for the amount of food. Both visits ended with dessert, which is irresistible. The chocolate pb pie and the chocolate pb mousse parfait were both amazing. The texture and flavor really made both desserts. When you're done with your meal, if you want dessert, they'll bring around a huge tray with 10+ desserts on it (mostly cakes and bars), all of which look amazing. I plan on having the Robin's Nest make my birthday cake because it's just that good. read more

I've been here a few times now and enjoy the food and atmosphere each time. Once was with my mom inside on a Sunday: we took full advantage of the $3 mimosas, and the other two times was with my boyfriend on the back patio area. We've had the impossible burger which is good and I got the sweet potato fries which are good too (I've got this twice and the first time it came with a very good bun, but the second time it had a very plain, store bought roll: maybe ask before ordering. Other dishes we enjoyed were the wins (very good), tacos (tasty too), brisket, quiche, chicken salad sandwich. Everything was good: it's fun the try different things on the menu. The sangria is VERY good and the $25 pitcher is worth it. Staff is friendly and service is good. The back patio area looks onto the little creek there and is very nice. A fun little find if you're passing through the area. The interior has a ton of things to look at. read more

Cute little place for a nice lunch. A little expensive, but the quiche is amazing! Revising my previous post. Upgrading to 5 stars. This restaurant has become a monthly tradition with my mother. We love the quiche and the desserts are amazing too! They always have many yummy options and even at least one or two vegetarian options. I only wish they had a vegetarian quiche option everyyyday. I'm so disappointed when I get there and there is meat in the quiche. The building itself is adorable-- very shabby chic. I even love the ladies room-- so cute! This place is a little spooky with quite a history and is a great stop around Halloween, especially on the night of the Witches Ball. If you're stopping in Mt. Holly, I'm not sure why you wouldn't want to eat at Robin's Nest, though it definitely is a "splurge" location based on the prices of some entrees! I've been here quite a few times and my parents have even visited back in the day when my mother worked at the hospital a few blocks away. This place is definitely a gem for a nice dinner. This old historical house-like restaurant was very cute and quaint. The menu has a lot of options to pick from. My husband and I went for lunch and had the turkey harvest sandwich and the spare rib tacos. They were both amazing. I didn't care for the pasta salad that came with the sandwich because it didn't have much flavor, just tasted like mayonnaise. I'm giving this place 4 stars because our waitress wasn't very friendly or attentive and we had to wait a while for our food. But the food was worth the wait.
