YET, my Limited Edition, Toyota 4-Runner gleefully PASSED FLYING COLORS with the grilling, DMV Inspection Officer. I came here last week ago for a smog check on our 1999 Mustang. Maggie was very helpful and professional when, after checking me in and looking over the car, she noticed the check engine light lit up. I had no idea this was an automatic fail. I did know it was on. They did not charge me for taking up a slot on their calendar. Unfortunately, they're all booked up the next couple weeks and could not fit me in for a repair to do some exploratory work, (book early with them!) But we will definitely be coming back for the Star Smog Check. read more

I have a 2017 Toyota Camry that kept making a very weird noise. However, I only noticed it when I went on long distance trips, and it seemed to be temperature-related, as once the car was parked, the noise went away shortly after (with time to cool off). This was a high-pitched, creaking sound that came from the front driver side. I'd taken the Camry to other mechanics, showed them videos of the noise I had filmed while driving, trying to give them an idea of where to look. Of course, by the time they took the car on a test drive, they couldn't hear the noise. Most of the time, the only feedback I had received was "it's probably just an annoying noise, nothing wrong with the car." The noise was a pain to listen to. I just wanted peace-of-mind in knowing that there wasn't some piece going bad that was going to snap / break / fail while driving. Someone on Facebook had recommended bringing it by Robinson's Automotive. Typical - the noise stopped by the time I brought it by. However, the mechanic came out to look at the car, listen to and watched the videos I took, and guessed what it could have been - the control arms. This was the first time someone was able to at least take a guess of what the noise could have been coming from. I said to just move forward with it, to me - it was worth a shot! I left my car there all day, and when they had me pick it up, the noise was gone. I am hopeful that this was the fix it needed! As far as the value, I am not sure if it was a good or bad deal...I know that they were willing to guess what it was, and seemingly fix the issue. So, to me... it was worth it. read more

I am very happy with the service I received at Robinson's Automotive in Placerville CA. I went through the CAP program because I failed emissions from damage to my car after it was pulled out of a ditch in a snow storm. At the front desk, Becky submitted the CAP paperwork and it was approved within a week. The diagnosis was done and it only took a day to get approval for the repairs. I had to go without my car for the weekend but I had it back by Tuesday. It runs great! I needed a valve adjustment, spark plugs and a coil and I paid 20% of the total cost and CAP paid the rest. Altogether I paid $300. Immediately driving out of the parking lot I noticed great improvement in my car's performance. Now I have passed Smog, I'm awaiting my tags in the mail and I won't have to get it smogged again for two years. It was all a relatively smooth and easy process. read more

Not a great experience but better than some. I brought my truck in and explained that the AC does not work and the left turn signal does not work for trailer lights. I was told $300 for diagnosis and agreed to this only because they were recommended to me. Later on, the service writer told me my AC would be $2,000 to repair. They stated they only do full AC system replacements and will not just replace a compressor, which is all I need. They did not state this prior to me agreeing to pay $300 for the diagnosis. Had I known they will not warranty anything less than a full system, I would have left and not had the truck diagnosed by this shop. Additionally, the service writer stated I needed my transmission flushed, which was just done about 8,000 miles ago. This caused me to think they were fishing for more work. Overall, I have had a much better experience at Country Lube Automotive Repair. The guy is honest and does not try to fish for additional work that is not needed. He stated he can replace my compressor for $700 and I trust that if there is anything else needing replacement, he will give me an honest evaluation and not just force a full system replacement. read more

We all need a great mechanic in a place we travel often and we're blessed with being referred to Robinson's automotive when our van needed a smog check and repair. Becca in the office was so helpful she even helped me file with a smog consumer assistance program that California offers. My van blew up while I was driving, before they had a chance to repair it to pass smog. They checked it out for me afterwards tho. Everyone who works here has been great especially Oddie. Outstanding service. Robinson's Automotive really went above & beyond to help us out of an unexpected jam we found ourselves in. We broke down on Highway 50 near Placerville. We were stuck on the freeway. We called several shops and none would agree to take a look at our Volvo. One shop referred us to Robinson's and we had "Sonia", our Volvo, towed to Robinson's. Sequoia helped shuttle us to the County offices before they closed as it was too late for us to call a taxi. They replaced the faulty fuel pump and we were back on our way. After over five years of what I considered doing business with a local neighbor I found out they starting WAY high over-sales by replacing parts that aren't due. Most recently had Engine light. Took my truck to Robinson for a ONLY smog test since they are one of few STAR stations in Placerville. There was a problem with one of the glowplugs they recommended i replace all 8 for $900.00. i agreed as long as they would smog the truck after the plugs were replaced. THEY SAID THEY WOULD MAKE IT HAPPEN. Get a call before pickup so sorry we are not going to smog your truck we dont have our STAR certification anymore. WHAT?? If i had know that i would have never gone to your shop. And when my wife picked up the truck they made NO offer to make it right NO discount NO coupons all they did was make an appointment for me at a smog stations 35 miles away. Gee thanks! WHAT A JOKE!!!!. Stay away from this place. Give your money to someone who has their act together. read more

Review for Smog : Went for a smog test bc of pretty consistent high ratings on here but primarily their close proximity to my location. I called, and they fit me in within days despite me being towards the end of my smog official due date so that was hugely helpful and saved me late feed. When I showed up at that time, they were quick and efficient with processing my intake. The dude helping was really nice, and because I was a first time customer he applied a discount (obviously in these times anything helps so I was very grateful especially bc i had no valid coupons). At the end of the day, They processed the smog test really quick overall, didn't have me waiting long or filing out annoying repetitive forms (minimal paperwork), and charged me less than the listed/expected price. I'd trust them with smog and will rec to friends and family needing smog locally. Don't know what more one could ask for regarding their smog intake/process, close to everything in this area, quick, fair price and No dmv receipt issues, friendly dudes, so ya. A+ for the smog. Would trust w/ other work too obviously. read more

Although it ended up being a manufacturer issue and we had to go to the dealer, Becky pulled the paperwork, made all the arrangements with the dealer to have our car brought in, making a stressful time, less so. Probably not a bad auto shop, but as a "DMV Partner", they fall short. Cal DMV has associated with private companies to expedite DMV basic services (yay!). Robinson's provides this service. I made an appointment, called the day before to verify time and location. Arrived 10 minutes early to a locked building. 45 minutes later, and a phone call, ("Wendy isn't there?"), someone (owner?) shows up, literally a minute before I was going to leave. After a perfunctory conversation, our vehicle registration was completed, but with incorrect tax info (in town, or in county), and incorrect vehicle gross weight rating. All of this leads me to suggest this shop, for this service, to be low on your list. There are several other alternatives. read more

We've recently run into some bad luck with one of our vehicles and no one could figure out what was wrong. Our check engine light kept coming on and an emissions code kept popping up that no one else could diagnose. Robinson's really worked hard to figure out what was going on with my car and after identifying everything that was going on, they gave me a fair price to get everything fixed. There was truly way too much going on to fix all at once and Rebecca was kind enough to really go out of her way to help me identify what was urgent and what could wait so that I could save as much money as possible...especially right after the holidays. After fixing everything they said they would I was surprised when she called me to tell me she was able to save me even more money. First time at Robinson's and the last! Marty the owner is not a gentleman. He has absolutely no customer service skills. Was told there would be no problem bringing my car back to my home when it was taken in for repair. When I received the call that the car was ready, I was told there would be an $85.00 charge to bring the car back to my house. When I arrived to pick up my car, Marty started going off on me. Yelling prophanities. Rebecca apologised for the situation knowing that she had not told me about the cost, which Marty confirmed while he was yelling at me. While he was yelling, I turned and asked Rebecca, where is my car. She told me and I started to leave the building. Marty followed me out of the building continuing to yell prophanities at me. Marty continued to yell and got into my face. I told the guy who was washing my window, "Thank you" and got in my car and left. I will never do business with this shop again and I do not recommend that anyone take their vehicle there. read more
