I called Main Street Auto to get a quote for an oil change on my daughter's vehicle. I was told it would be 100-120 dollars depending on the oil amount. Based on that, I sent my daughter there for the service. When the work was done, the receipt showed they charged her 150 dollars. I immediately called the shop and asked again how much an oil change for that exact vehicle should cost. A different employee told me the same thing: 100-120 dollars. When I asked why my daughter was billed 150, she looked up the invoice and confirmed the only service performed was an oil change. She even admitted the price seemed high and said she would check with her manager. Later, I received a call back stating 150 dollars was the "correct" price, despite both employees confirming twice that the cost for her vehicle should be 100-120 dollars. This feels dishonest and misleading. I strongly believe they took advantage of a teen because she didn't know any better. I will never return to Main Street Auto and want others to be aware of their shady practices. read more

I was driving to Tahoe w my family and dogs but my car broke down!! We were told to come here by word of mouth, so glad we did!! We left for the weekend and came back to see what was up. Danny was so helpful in explaining what happened to the car- it was engine related to a recent recall. He advised us to tow it to a dealership and they would probably fix it for free. Honestly Danny was more than amazing, so friendly and very eager to turn our frown upside down! Based on Yelp reviews, I chose to take my 1967 Cobra replica to Main St. Automotive to repair a wildly inaccurate tachometer. Jeremy and Tom spent a good amount of time diagnosing the problem, ultimately determining it to be the tach itself as being faulty, rather than some kind of electrical/wiring interference. I ordered a new tachometer (same part number as it was 33 years ago when the car was built!) and Tom expertly replaced it. Now it works perfectly. Jeremy and Tom, and the rest of the crew, are friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. I'll definitely be bringing my other cars here for service. They're the best! read more

My repair took 10 days for a 2 day repair and they changed me $500.00 over the quote. They broke multiple parts on my truck and returned it with a transmission that wouldn't shift. When I returned it they tried to make it out as if I was trying to get something over on them but they forgot to plug in the electrical boot. The owner noticed on his test drive and just assumed there repairs were solid. Beware of this shop. read more

I highly suggest this place. I made them a yelp just because how happy I am. We were just coming up the base of the mountain to tahoe and our car started making a chugging grinding sound. We thought...great... our vacation when we worked so hard to get time off to come is ruined and we might have to have a tow truck take us and the car home. I went to this establishment with my automobile, and I asked if they accepted car shield, he replied no, and that wasn't a problem, I ended up, paying for it our of pocket somewhere else, and that wasn't the problem, the problem was that he never really spoke to me, and really didn't give it a second care . I was trapped with an overheating car in Placerville on a Saturday, and Jeremy was there to answer the phone and stuck around to help us out. He worked through some pretty difficult stuff to get my car back up and running so I could get back to San Francisco. He was great, very accommodating and fair. I've worked in the automotive industry for 16 years, and I can tell you that a trustworthy, fair and kind person is difficult to find these days. I would recommend Jeremy and Main Street Auto Repair to anyone - and not just because he's fair and trustworthy. Picked this place for auto repair based on the positive reviews. It was a mistake. When I went to drop off my car to get looked at/repaired for occasionally stalling/engine shut down, the man at the front desk told me that because the problem is only occasional, they may not be able to fix it. Okay? This seems strange because an experienced mechanic should be able to take the info I provided, look under the hood, and solve the problem. I got a call 2 days later that the mechanic drove my car to Cameron Park and back and it never stalled or turned off, so there is nothing they can do to fix it. What? Aren't these guys supposed to be professional? I had to pay a $50 fee to get my car back. I took my car then to Jim's Automotive down the street. They also were unable to replicate the problem while driving it, but like professionals, they took my issues seriously, looked under the hood, and theorized that the engine shutting down while driving was due to a dirty throttle body . They cleaned it and I haven't had any issues since . I'm disappointed that I wasted 3 days and $50 with Main Street Automotive just to be told that they didn't feel like putting in the extra effort to figure out what was wrong with my car. Save yourself time and money and go to Jim's Automotive where they will take your words seriously and actually put effort into solving the problem. read more

Had an awesome experience here. Friendly and honest. My car was towed in on a Friday morning from Lake Tahoe, mechanic at breakdown location thought I might be looking at around $1500.00 repairs. After explaining to josh the issues it was thought I might have car back Tuesday or Wednesday. DO NOT SMOG here!!! Females do not be insulted go elsewhere. First impressions are everything and this shop not only failed first impressions but also insulted my wife. I don't recommend anyone let their wife's/daughters take their vehicle here because the take advantage of women even on the simplest repairs. When anything is question they say stop talking you don't know what your talking about...when in fact she knew what she was talking about. Horrible! The guy gave me some business about my catalytic converter being the wrong one. And charged me $50 because as he said, I "failed" smog because he noticed it. He never ran the test. My truck has been tested and passed numerous times since that cat was put on. Several years ago he did the exact same thing because of some other ridiculous thing he "noticed." I didn't learn my lesson. I'll never go back. No wonder his shop is always empty. read more

Now, I know a decent amount about cars and which engines to stay away from, which companies have a good reputation and so on, but know little about what problems to look for when buying a 4x4. So i figured that I would have these guys look at the 4x4 I was interested in. I called this place because of the great reviews on yelp. First off, the hours on their site (or yelp) are wrong. Saturdays they are open 8:00am until they feel like leaving. I called them Friday to ask if they would do a presale inspection on a truck I was interested in buying on Saturday. They said that they weren't sure if they would be open. How can you not be sure that you are going to be open?! I told them I would be in town around 11am and the guy did not seem happy. He said that if I made an appointment they would stay open. I agreed and said that I would try to get there earlier but I didn't think I would be able to as I was coming from two hours away. At this point I am starting to feel guilty because I am "making" them stay open. It was obvious they would rather me not come so they could get off early on Saturday. The next morning I called just to be sure they would still see me and I am glad I did. The WORST part of it all was when I told the guy that I was getting a Nissan 4x4 pickup he scoffed and said "You know that Nissans aren't Toyotas right?" What kind of question is that? Yes i know Nissans aren't Toyotas. He then processed to try and sell me his Toyota pickup that was twice what I was buying the Nissan for. No I don't want YOUR toyota. Yeah the 22re is awesome and really reliable but lacks power (unless crazy modded) and no i don't want the crappy 3VZ-E V6. I want the VG30E Nissan. Last week my husband and I took our car in for a smog and "mysterious" noise in the A/C vent, our first time at Main Street Automotive Repair. We couldn't have been happier with the service! From the speed and quality of the work - to the affordable price and the friendliness and professionalism of the staff - we had a GREAT experience! As it turns out, the noise in the vent was caused by a "nest" filled with insulation and debris that "our neighborly" friends THE MICE had decided to build inside the car. My husband and I were so happy to have both the owner Jeremy and Mark at the front desk give us tips and advice on how to prevent this from happening in the future! Anyone else would have just wanted us to come back with the same problem later, as this would translate into more revenue for their business. Instead, Jeremy and Mark took the time to help us understand how and why this happened, and how to avoid this going forward. We were on vacation, far from home, when our brakes started sticking/smoking., and so we found Main Street Automotive in Placerville (the first guy we took it to wouldn't even look at the problem, if he wasn't assured that he would do a whole brake job). The technicians at Main Street Auto did a thorough check, first trying to see if they could fix the problem inexpensively, but found out that the calipers needed replacing. They were able to order the parts quickly & fixed the brakes for us within 2 hours. They were friendly, knowledgeable, helpful & reassuring, giving us personalized attention and best of all, our brakes are now in great shape. We visited Placerville over Thanksgiving and a previous repair done in Portland was completed improperly, resulting in destroyed wheel bearings. My car began playing up on a journey from the Bay Area to South Lake, made worse with two toddlers and round 100 degree temp outside. I stopped at Placerville and Jeremy's team kindly offered to take a look at it for me right away to see what the problem was and to see if I would be okay to continue up the mountain. Firstly, their service couldn't have been quicker, they had the car up in the air in minutes. My children and I ended up spending a couple of hours at Main Street Auto while I figured out logistics of rental car etc and Jeremy figured out what he needed to repair the car. His attention to us was admirable. He checked and double checked parts (this is not a car model he typically works on) and helped entertain my toddlers, who were over-heating and long expired. He even offered to fly me to South Lake himself! Jeremy came to my rescue when no local rental cars were available and went above and beyond to make sure myself and my children got to our destination safely. His team repaired my car in the timescale predicted and the cost was very reasonable. Jeremy and his team went above and beyond to ensure I had an excellent service experience. He gave a very honest service, could easily have charged me more and I felt I trusted him to only repair the car if the part was to his standards. read more

It's hard to imagine that the reviews found on this site actually measure up. If I didn't experience Jeremy's grit, care, and determination for myself, I never would have believed them. My son drove up from LA Labor Day weekend and wobbled in to South Lake Tahoe as his girl friend's Jeep Liberty lost power while driving, creating a very dangerous travel experience. The following morning I looked for mechanics in the Tahoe area which was as challenging as looking for trout in the drout waters of the American River. But this is no fish story. I drove the car to Placerville, to the nearest mechanic I could find (57 miles away). I left the car after a few hours of diagnostics. Jeremy couldn't find the problem, but never gave up. He worked on it from 1:30 pm to around 8:30 pm (I know cause that's when he called me) on Saturday of Labor Day weekend. He told me the many problems he thought the car might be experiencing and proceeded to go through a checklist of everything he did, could do, and would do. On Monday, Labor Day morning he called to let me know that the car still had significant issues, but he believed it would be safe to get my son and his girl friend (and their dog) back to LA, which was all I really cared about. When we arrived to Placerville he was still tinkering and making adjustments. Is this guy real? I especially wondered that when he handed me the bill. He charged us for only two-hours of labor. He can't be real! Needless to say, we were completely overwhelmed by his patience, attitude, and appreciated his graciousness. When I told him that he was truly a unique human being, he thanked ME for being patient and bringing the car to him. The car made it back to LA without stopping once. Thank you, Jeremy, for saving our weekend vacation, and being such an amazing human being. I want to be just like you when I grow up, although I think I'm older than you. I live in the Bay Area, and I'm tempted to bring my car to you for service, regardless. Thank you so much! read more
