It was one of those weeks where you're like, "Anything else God?" Because you feel like you just can't take anything else going wrong. On Sunday, my 18-year-old Lhasa went to bed and then woke up at midnight with a tummy ache. By Tuesday morning, Otis was gone. Otis died of acute kidney failure at Goldorado Animal Hospital. He had just received a clean bill of health at Airport Pet Clinic in late March. I felt totally blind-sided. On Wednesday, I took Otis to Caring Pet Crematory in Sacramento. Both the hospital and this place were very kind, which meant a lot because I am new to the area. On Thursday, my car wouldn't start. The battery was fried. John was out of town on a work trip so I asked my neighbor for a jump start so I could get to O'Reilly's for a battery. I was shocked how expensive batteries were post-pandemic. Then I was given a list of mechanics to call to install it. I didn't know if they would do it or how much they would charge. Fortunately, Cameron Park Auto was first on my list. At first Debbie couldn't help me so I just went into auto pilot mode. You know, don't take it personally, don't burst into tears, just say thank you, hang up and go down the list. I was leaving a voicemail with another mechanic when Debbie called me back. Debbie said she talked with the mechanic and they found a way to help me. Later, Debbie told me she sensed something was wrong and knew I needed help. I bought the battery at O'Reilly's but before I could drive over to CPA, my car wouldn't start. O'Reilly's has jumper cables so I told Debbie I'll be over as soon as my car started. Debbie said, "Hold on." Next thing I know, Josh brought out a better battery and John installed it at O'Reilly's. I couldn't believe it! I don't know what Debbie said but it was so nice to feel like when your world is coming undone that there are nice people out there who care. After I got my car running, I drove over to CPA and thanked Debbie in person. I wanted her to know I REALLY appreciated her kindness. I am new to this area and hoped Cameron Park Automotive could be my "go to" place when auto work was outside of my capability (tool)/ equipment), or I lacked the time to perform the work myself. By trade, I am a licensed FAA Airframe/Powerplant mechanic. I researched and brought my 03 Tacoma to the shop for an Air Condition service and front end alignment. YES, 2003 truck w/ 111K miles. Rebecca was professional and knowledgeable with my request. Front end alignment (was completed by Big O) across the parking lot and A/C service w/ Cameron Park Automotive. Short version - A/C service could not be completed because of a bad connector, preventing power to compressor. Cool and understandable. I was advised work could be done for $1,200, but no guarantee the air conditioning issue would be resolved. I declined, and advised I would just come in to pay for the services that were performed. The BIG problem was when I got home and popped the hood, I noticed the low and the high pressure servicing caps missing. I KNOW these caps were installed in their appropriate locations before I brought the truck for service. I immediately called Rebecca, only to be told that it was on me (customer), that the tech said he never removed. I challenged this response only to be told that even though the A/C system was inspected, the missing caps were not identified as missing and therefore my fault because they had no reason to remove. I knew that in order to inspect and view the system for the area I had brought the truck in for, they would have worked on the area of these caps and should have noticed if they were missing and noted it if that was the case. Again, as mentioned earlier, I KNOW these caps were NOT missing prior to my bringing in the truck for service. Mind you, the invoice I received from them for the work completed also has no note of any parts missing. However, Rebecca volunteered to replace w/ kit to match. I drove back to the shop to get the missing caps resolved, and when the tech started to install the new caps they were providing, he then noticed the ORIGINAL caps sitting slightly hidden on the truck's wiper dam. YES, the caps had obviously been removed during service and placed there by whichever tech had worked on my truck and never installed back! The same caps that I was told were "never removed"! As an aviation tech of over 44 years, I could not help thinking: domestic/intl flight over water or mountains @ 35,000 ft and your mechanic fails to tells you that engine parts are missing even after inspecting; and after landing, the response you hear is that your aircraft came in that way so we didn't see the need to install the missing parts because our tech is honest because he said he didn't remove these parts; therefore not necessary to write up, inform, or take any other action! NOT ACCEPTABLE! I had no argument w/ expense or outcome and paid in full - no questions. I am aggravated that I was basically told I was in the wrong and a liar, and that the tech had been the honest one! No apology! FOR SURE I WILL NEVER RETURN and do not appreciate the dishonesty and complacency I experienced. read more

Nice people, but the last few times I've brought cars here they first couldn't find my car's problem on two tries, then the second (now last) time they couldn't even get my car in to be inspected, let alone repaired. I called Monday the moment they opened. Set up to drop my car off Wednesday, and I did so as the first customer. By Thursday afternoon they had not even taken my car into the bay. I cannot remember ever having had such a positive experience in an auto shop - ever. On the way to a surgeon's appointment at UC Davis - we had a breakdown on the 50 about 40 minutes from home. Being new to the area I had NO idea where to have my car towed. I got lucky when another (overbooked) shop referred me to these folks. When I called they said they were also a week out on repairs. I decided to go ahead and have my car towed there to wait it out. When I described the problem - Emily diagnosed it right away and said she was sure they could get it looked at the next day, re-defining my disaster as simply "a piece of floppy plastic". Debbie and Emily listened to me try to get Enterprise to bring a rental car, took heart and squeezed my car into their busy queue and up for a look. I made an appointment last week for this morning at 10 AM from a person called Ken; very courteous (on the phone) for a smog check on my truck. The female working the counter had no record of my appointment this morning and virtually ignored me on the phone while I was waiting. She appeared angry and extremely frustrated with whatever she was working on to the point where I offered to leave. She raised her voice saying did I ask you to leave? Not nice for a paying repeat customer. The technician was terrific; very polite and eventually got me out of there. The front reception was not courteous and perhaps just having a bad day; in earlier visits was a far more pleasant atmosphere. read more

Debby discussed a problem with Brake Fluid being Adsorbent (no misspelling!). In fact it is much worse than that. Brake Fluid is Hygroscopic, which means it ABSORBS water. This has a major affect on causing the brake fluid to boil at a much lower temperture. read more

I recently (July 2021) purchased a 1977 Airstream Argosy Motorhome in Fort Wayne IN. I have been working on mostly the interior for the past few months, and decided to have a brake, functional, and safety inspection performed. It was difficult to find a shop willing to do the work I needed, but coincidentally, when I stopped by Cameron Park Automotive to have the battery in my wife's car replaced, I mentioned the 77 RV to Debbie and Ken, and they said they had not only the ability to inspect and repair my vehicle, one of their mechanics, Rich specialized in RV work. They gave me a detailed, itemized and reasonably priced estimate that day, and "Rusty" is currently at their facility getting several small leaks and broken parts repaired, as well as comprehensive engine and safety checks. I am setting up my 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee to flat tow with our RV. Normally this would be a very simple task BUT the Jeep battery compartment is underneath the front passenger seat with limited space to work with. To really complicate things, my Jeep has the start/stop feature that requires an auxiliary battery in the same compartment. In order to flat tow my vehicle you have to disconnect the battery. With vehicles that have a battery under the hood, this is a simple matter of just installing a battery disconnect switch, not possible in my vehicle. A different solution had to used. I called several places and explained what I needed done and they all said it was something they did not want to work on. When I called Cameron Park Automotive they said they would and to bring my Jeep in to go over exactly what was needed. I brought my Jeep in and met with Ken. Ken is a fantastic person to deal with! He is personable, friendly and very knowledgeable! He understood exactly what I needed done and made clear to me what would be done and how I would need to use the set up when I towed the Jeep. What I was most impressed with was the billing. They quoted me an estimate which was almost exclusively time, I provided the needed parts. When it was time to pay, they charged me 25% less than the estimate. I can't remember the last time that has happened on any kind of service. There was no way of me knowing how much time they actually spent on it and they could have charged me the full amount on the estimate, or more. This place is honest and has integrity! It started when I showed up waiting my turn. Debbie is great with setting CLEAR expectations on what work will need and might need to be done. I heard and saw multiple examples of this with customers in front of me as well as phone conversations. My truck is heavily modified and the diagnostic quote turned out to be 75% less than original since its way outside of OEM specs. They're always busy too which is a good sign in my opinion. Anytime you find a mechanic shop sitting around watching youtube is a red-flag. Not this shop. If any of my other vehicles run into an issue I will definitely be back. read more

Poor customer service - was hung up on when I complained about lack of service. Initially, was told left side exhaust manifold was cracked; so had them replace. Soon heard a ticking noise from engine later. Brought back and was asked to come back next week and drop off. So, waited and dropped off only to have vehicle not looked at all day and told they would check it out the next day. Advised them I needed my truck back same day. Owner later called and said its now the right side manifold that needs to be replaced. Very suspicious, seems that maybe they didn't fix it correctly the first time. I don't know where other folks get their vehicles serviced. In my experience this business does things that others should take a page from. When you walk in, you are greeted by either Ken or Debbie. They have the ability to service your car, I have a Toyota & a Fusion (Hybrid), perform a SMOG, make a key and help diagnose any issue I have encountered. I recently found out they can work on recalls, all of their staff attend schools to keep up with newer and older cars - I saw an old Jag & a 1940's truck - very cool. As I was waiting for my car, I was told about their AAA top 100 award. Richie & Luke are amazing techs/mechanics. I really can't say enough about the shop. For this visit there was a noise coming from my Ford. Ken/Richie were able to Determine the cause & while I waited the team ordered the part and I was off and running. During my repair, I opted to wait - there was fresh coffee & fun conversation, I couldn't believe the number of oil changes & SMOG Service appointments that came through. All in all, the team, the owner and everyone there really were very professional, AAA approved, efficient and knowledgeable. I will be back! read more

I brought the car in for ABS vsc light to be checked out. Brought my car in on Monday and on Wednesday they were able to finally look at it. They told me that the catalytic converter was for sure gone And told me that that would cause the ABS light to come on. Which Is absolutely false. Because of their negligence and Their lack of working security cameras (They do have cameras. They just Happen to not be working that night) My Cadillac converter remove from my car while it was in the parking lot I assume. Cameron Park Automotive sets the standard for automotive repair. As a small business in the area, we were looking for a reality check. Our business has to watch our bottom line. Ken and Deb, Luke, Mike and Richie really treat the cars as if they own them. I was having an issue with rodents, they have a solution - They check every time I stop in for my oil change. I lost a key, they have onsite automotive key machine. We ordered a key and they programmed and cut it during an oil change. Diagnostics is really something, I was in the shop when another automotive repair shop brought a vehicle in for a check - seems their tool was out of date. Not Cameron Park automotive, they have the tools to make the proper diagnosis. Smog. Ca., requires this and I know to bring it over. The documents are electronically taken care of, I am taken care of. Also, they are pet friendly. My beagle gets a walk and a treat. There is a nice field near the shop. The shop really does have everything I need to keep my autos running. I call and setup an appointment, or get towed in. They work with me and have many options available. While it may be difficult to articulate my experience at this auto shop, I will do my best. I took my SUV in for repair. It was experiencing a stalling problem along with "check engine" light. "Their" Solution was to change the battery. What do I know, I'm not the auto repair professional. I warily paid them for the battery and their time. I drove it off the premises and within 10 minutes it stalled again. I was able to restart it and drove it back to the shop immediately. I asked them if they test drove it after changing the battery. The owner, Debbie I believe is her name, told me "they don't test drive after doing electrical work". At this time, the check engine light came on as well. Debbie told me that they fixed what I told them was the problem. Now, maybe it's me. But, I would think that a diagnostic test would be a better explanation of the problem. I left the vehicle there overnight. The following day they decided there was another issue that may have been causing the problem. They claimed to have fixed it. I attempted to pay them for this additional service and Debbie refused my money (I can only assume it's because she knowingly did not fix my vehicle). Fast forward a few weeks and once again the vehicle is stalling and check engine light is back on. Today, I returned to the shop where Debbie told me she does not want to do business with me because it seems I've got a bad attitude. Well, who wouldn't have a bad attitude after receiving a crappy service. I understand this shop has received good reviews in the past. That is why I went there in the first place. However, I wanted to share this experience with others as a heads up when considering where you may take your vehicle for repairs. read more

Before I knew I had an extensive exhaust issue, we were following a rabbit trail to determine where the problem was for the o2 sensor false positive readout turning on the check engine lights. What we did do was eliminate the possibility that my computer had gone south in the truck and the o2 sensors were working just fine. It only took an hour to flash the truck computer just as promised.
