Colossal waste of time and energy to visit an dying store with surly staff in a sad strip mall. I hoped to rent a commercial-sized dehumidifier to dry my basement. Another rental place suggested Robinson's so I called. The person who answered the phone told me they had one available. I replied I was on my way. The parking lot was nearly empty. As I approached the front door, I noticed a sign saying "Please Push door." Odd, but whatever. So much for handicapped accessibility. I walked past plenty of clean, well-stocked shelves and thought, "this place is huge." I made my way to the rental counter in the back where I encountered a guy fixing a machine. I inquired about renting a dehumidifier and was told "it was out." Then his interrogation began. "Did you call?" "Yes." "Did you call this store or my store in Hudson?" "This one." I'd only called 30 minutes before. I don't have a photographic memory but I certainly remembered which location I called. "What number did you call?" "508-881-... "Who did you speak to?" "I don't know." The person didn't offer their name. "Well you'd better find out...We only have one and it's out." Really? I understand mistakes happen. I spent enough time in customer service roles myself to realize that the customer is not "always right," but to repeatedly insinuate that a customer is somehow to blame for his staff's laziness or negligence is rude, condescending, and unacceptable. The guy seemed like a typical boomer who was too insecure to admit that he or his staff had made a mistake, let alone apologize to a potential customer. Normally I'd ask when they'd expect their equipment to be returned, but I'd had enough of their attitude. On my way out, their exit door had a sign saying, "Push," so I asked the sullen young man standing behind the register if they were, "too cheap to fix their automatic doors?" "They're $20,000 a piece to fix." Hard to believe this place has been in business since 1874, especially with their rotten attitude. read more

Rather than running the other way when they see me coming, they listen, think about it, (you can see the wheels spinning), and have ALWAYS been successful in finding a solution, sometimes, going as far as even taking the time to modify another item to make it work!! This place is AWFUL. Joe the owner does not stand by his products, refusing to help, and made my experience truly terrible. I bought very expensive paint there and it was clearly improperly mixed. (I had to buy from a different location to replace, same exact paint, and it was MUCH better). He refused to replace or refund, insisting that I did something wrong. I had pictures, so much proof, and he was argumentative, huge jerk. Don't shop here if you want quality products or any respect Real shame because his employees are wonderful. read more

I get my mowers and snow blower serviced at Robinson's in Framingham. They've always done great work and return the equipment quickly. They also clean it! I have them pick-up and drop-off which is huge since I don't have a truck. It costs a little extra but is worth it. They even once picked up my girlfriend's grandparent's snow blower even though they are technically out of range. Now that's wanting to help! The service department is knowledgeable and friendly. I bought my Honda mower here, and will continue to support them any way I can. I have also rented a portable generator from the Hudson store when they didn't have it at Framingham, and they are just as awesome there! I bought an epoxy in double syringe. I try to press it to mix, and the hardener looked OK, but the resin was so hard that I could not press it out. I tried to return the epoxy but "expert" said it is good. I work with epoxy professionally for the last 25 years. read more

I called about small engine repair for leaf blower. The lady that answered was rude, cut me off mid-sentence, and quickly transferred me the the service guy. He spoke to me me as if I was bothering him. He couldn't wait to get me off the phone.... "You can bring it in, but we'll just take it to Hudson and you won't get it back for 8 weeks". I have lived in Framingham for 25 years. In that time, I have spent probably $75,000 at hardware stores. Yes, Home Depot and Lowe's have a larger selection and better prices on most items. On the flipside, they are corporate giants, and it's hard to be taken care of. However, Robinsons, and their people, especially Joe when I needed it at closing time yesterday, go over and above, and know more than most chain employees. Not a great experience with my lawnmower tune up. they clearly did not complete the tune up and called and rushed me to pick it back up saying it was taking up space. it was there 4 days total so should have been enough time to complete the tune up yet when I brought it home there was no gas in it, bone dry, and thy claim they run it for 20 minutes. clearly not. Joe the manager was abrupt and rude, does not value the customer and makes NO attempt to make it right. I try to support local, but after this experience, time to go elsewhere. If I'd written a review for Robinson's up until last week, I would've given them a much higher score than I'm giving today. As you read this, please don't assume that my ultimate beef with Robinson's, which will keep me from shopping there ever again unless I'm desperate, is about wearing masks -- it's not. It's about how they interacted with me and made me feel. I'm supportive of small, local businesses and mightily sympathetic to their challenges. Robinson's presence in the neighborhood has been a blessing for many years. Yet I can tolerate just so much disrespect, and I've felt plenty of it in the past week. During several recent in-store visits, I noticed that the staff were not wearing masks. So I decided to avoid shopping at Robinson's for the time being, and phoned to let the store manager know. Stores appreciate customer feedback, right? I was expecting a response along the lines of, "I'm sorry you feel that way, but hope you'll return to us once things are back to normal." But instead I got a fire hose of anger. The manager, practically yelling, told me that requiring employees to wear masks was against the law, and that Robinson's lawyers had advised him that if they instituted a mask policy for their staff, they could be sued for "libel." I expressed my beliefs that he (and/or the store's lawyers) were incorrect, and that whether or not the store instituted a staff mask policy was a management choice. He did not believe me. But you can look it up. Later, to support what I'd told him, I printed out some third-party info for him to review. But neither the store owner nor the store manager were willing to even glance at the info. In fact, when I approached the store manager and identified myself (we'd never met), he instantly told me he wasn't interested and gave me the dismissive David Spade-like "Buh bye." Bear in mind, that's how they treated a decades-long customer. Even if the owner and manager truly believed that I was wrong, they had multiple opportunities to placate me by simply accepting my handouts, or giving me some non-committal happy talk (e.g., "Thank you, maybe you're right, I'll look into it, but I doubt we'll be changing our policy.") If you choose to shop at Robinson's, I would suggest being wary about using them for any transaction that could conceivably give rise to some sort of conflict. Mine is just one data point, but I ended up feeling like management cannot be relied on to engage in productive, fact-based dialog. Perhaps their obstinacy and the store manager's rudeness can be chalked up to fatigue at dealing with people who argue about the [sadly] politically-charged issue of whether masks should be worn. But I was just trying to make a point about the flexibility businesses have in setting policies. It's just a shame. read more

I went in there today to buy something and the girl I said hello to was apparently offended because I said hello and went to her manager . He Told me he was gonna call the police on me because I gave them business I will never ever go back there and if you wanna waste your hard earned money there and be threatened for the police being called on you then this is the perfect place to shop. Small engine repair - Find another place! I dropped off my snow blower for a repair of the auger gear box. I told them what was broken and what needed to be fixed. It took over 2 1/2 months for them to finally get back to me with their "diagnosis" which was exactly what I told them and they could not get the part so it was not repairable. So for $65 I got exactly nothing from them except inconvenience. read more

I am in the process of moving from Newton to Framingham... so when I wanted to buy a new grill for the house I searched for my new local hardware store. As a small business owner, I prefer to support local small businesses rather than the big box stores. From the moment I walked in the door I knew I had made the right decision. I was greeted my Mama, the store cat.. I love animals and it made it feel even more cozy. All of the staff were happily working, one occasionally cracking a joke with one another. To me this is a sign of good management, and happy staff makes for happy customers. As I walked around the store and familiarized myself I was pleasantly surprised. This store is bigger and seems to carry more than my hardware store in Newton. I spoke with Jeff and placed an order for the grill I wanted. Of course, all of the distributors only had it in Stainless and I was looking for Black.... not a problem. Jeff called me the next morning to tell me he had found it, he also sent me a text... This also gave me an even more of a personalized feel, which I very much appreciate. (It's also the easiest way to communicate as far as I'm concerned) Fast forward: I went back to pay for the grill on full. (I had only made a deposit). At this point Jeff was on vacation so I got to meet Joe. Who is another super nice guy... he lives around the corner from our new place. He welcomed us to the neighborhood and was super personable. Deliver day: We got into the house a day earlier than anticipated, which was also the day before my bf's birthday. Jeff was more than happy to deliver the grill early... which he delivered himself. Honestly... such a nice guy, I was disappointed I had no beer on the fridge to offer him, cause I feel like we could have chatted for a while. Anyway, thank you for reading my short story. This will never happen to you at any of the Home Depot types of stores. It was a Saturday morning the chain saw wouldn't start, I stopped by to pickup a new spark plug. I told them about the chain saw troubles and they said bring it in. After a quick few adjustments it's never ran so good. They refused to charge me for that. Six months later I needed a new trimmer and wanted to buy American made. I ended up with a Stihl that is made in Virgina. Sometimes it just doesn't cost more to buy from the local hardware store. Not only do you save time and money in the long run. The big bonus for me is that every week I use the American made trimmer after doing my yard work its such a good feeling to own and operate a quality piece of equipment that was made here in America. read more

I asked her nicely again, if it would be possible just because I have my 3 little kids with me and don't want then coming into the store and she rudely refused. well i want to support the local economy and i like the idea of the local hardware store, but on the other hand i like to have people who know what they are talking about (not high school kids in between tweets) and i like have what i need (I'm renovating the house) on hand. as you can sense, ace is missing some of those things. now on the plus side, they have benji moore paint, which is the ace of paints (rhyme?? meh) well anyway, they have it and they have it cheap, which when you think about how much it costs for PAINT around 30 bucks a can 1 can per room, sometimes 2, that adds up so you can save some bucks to boot. well i said my peace read more

I was on my way to Home Depot today when I looked to my left and I saw and subsequently remembered Robinsons Hardware. I decided to pop and see if they had what I needed. I walked around for a bit trying to find the right aisle and I was greeted by one of the employees who asked what I was looking for. This gentleman who's name I forgot, was so helpful and informative I was a bit taken a back. It's hard to remember the last time I received such great customer service. He found everything I needed and even told me some tips for a successful home improvement job I was in the midst of. I was in and out in under 10 minutes, had everything I needed and I didn't feel like I just walked 20 miles around a giant box store. Robinsons is great, local, convenient and very knowledgeable. I just bought a new Honda snowblower at Robinson's. I had a great experience in both of my visits to the store that led to purchase. They gave me the chance to try our using the machine and gave me lots of advice on how to use it. We've gone to Robinson's for several years and generally enjoy the experience and the helpfulness they offer. But I was disappointed with my 11/14/2019 rental experience. I had asked for a two-day rental of a two-bladed log splitter and we agreed on an 8 am delivery on the 14th. I also said I might finish using the machine on the first day, and the rental person said just to let them know and they would take the second day rental cost off the bill. The 8 am delivery time came and went. When I called at 8:50 am to check, and they said the truck would go out at 9. At 9:22, the delivery driver knocked on the door, handed over a rental receipt and said the splitter was delivered, and left. When I walked outside to inspect the machine, it was a blue single-blade splitter, not the red double-bladed unit I ordered, and it was leaking gasoline. I called Robinsons, reported the situation, and the rental person dispatched the correct machine. I also told him I would limit my rental to one day after all. He said that would be fine. The correct machine arrived at 9:45 and I also told the driver to remind the rental office that the machine would be ready to pick up that day. The machine worked perfectly for the four hours we needed to split our logs, but we had already lost time in a busy day due to the late delivery of the incorrect machine and subsequent re-delivery of the correct machine. Before I wrote this review, the rental person called at nearly 5pm 11/5 and asked if I was done with the machine. I reminded him that I had indicated twice that it was a one-day rental, and that I had been told it would be picked up 11/5 in the morning. It was picked up at 5:15 pm. While the rental person was on the phone, I registered my disappointment with the rental delivery errors and I asked if he could take off one off the delivery charges because the order was incorrectly filled and late. He turned me over to his manager, who was sympathetic, stated that he was sorry for our inconvenience, but he said he could not waive one of the delivery charges. Thus this review awarding 3 out of 5 stars for doing a decent, but not a great job. read more

I love this hardware stores. I willingly drive past the local giant chain hardware store to go to Robinsons. They have helped me find just the right hardware for fix-it problems and home projects. I'm no handyman and I appreciate their willingness to help me in spite of all I have to learn. It's fun to browse the shop, which is full of interesting and high-quality products from wagons, to pool equipment, to power saws. Go-they probably have just what you need. Another nice perk: they also refill propane tanks for a very reasonable $15. read more

BAD SHARPENING Needed to get a pushmower and machete sharpened, $45 and $11.50 each. Not many places in mass do it. Took them to Robinson, week go to pick it up, machete is wrapped and the bring the pushmower out and being to ring me up for full price. I look at the lawnmower. there is still rust on the blades and there has obviously been no work done on it. I send it back and take the machete home annoyed that i will have to make another trip back out the following weekend. I get home open the wrapped machete and the blade has had work done but the blade is so dull that a 2 year old wouldn't be able to hurt themselves. Had to take it to another store to get them to actually do it right. Next week they call me about the mower. "Oh, it has a self sharpening mechanism, we just adjusted it for you. it will cost $25." no mention of the fact they originally tried to charge me $45 and made me take two trips out to get it done. read more

My husband and I rented a brush mower and backpack blower this past weekend. When the reservation was made, we requested that the blade be sharpened on the brush mower. We picked up the 2 rentals and upon returning back to our home we quickly realized that not only was the brush mower blade not sharpened, it was incredibly dull to the point that the brush would lay down instead of cut. The backpack blower was out of adjustment and only blew at half speed. When we returned both rentals the person who checked us in shrugged when told about the brush mower and then informed us that they had received "several complaints" about the back pack blower. We were not offered anything in return for our wasted time. Personally, a free 4 hour rental of a REPAIRED and properly working back pack blower would have sufficed. I feel that they stole our time and our money. read more

Dropped my blower off for repair almost 2 weeks ago! I was told it would be a week at most and as of today it is going on 2 weeks. The real problem is that I called today and was told by a guy it wasn't his problem and they don't do the repairs. I dropped it at his place of work and he said it isn't his problem. He gave me another number to call so I could speak to the woman who actually took my blower when I dropped off and guaranteed me a week at most. She had nothing to offer, took my number (for the third time) and failed to call me back after claiming she would call right away to see what's up. Point is, stay away from this place, they lie, have no clue what other workers are promising and never get back to their customers!! I will be lucky to have my blower by the first snowfall. A good friend introduced Robinson's and had great experience with this HW store. First purchased the Honda snow blower. Joe helped me and explained how to operate, to do maintenance w/ the machine and allowed me to test drive it. Secondly, purchased the Honda water pump trying to resolve some storm water issue at home. This time Jeff helped me. Described my unique situation, he gave suggestions and planned out the necessary accessory hoses, snapon connectors etc, and put together as a system. Importantly, they tested out the system and made sure it was what I wanted. Greatly appreciated for the services. read more
