I had the pleasure of having brunch at Robinson's Tea Room today and I must say it was a great experience! At the advice of previous reviewers, we went with the Chocolate strawberry tea first. It was light, not bitter at all, and quite refreshing. We tried both soups they had made this morning, which were organic tomato soup and potato soup. Both were tasty and even though I normally don't like tomato soup the flavor of this particular tomato soup was amazing. Our second pot of tea was the cocoa coconut tea, which was good in it's own way but I much preferred the chocolate strawberry. Next was the broccoli and cheese quiche which came with salad. It was very good and one of the best quiches I've had. Lastly, we tried cinnamon scones for dessert. The scones were warm, not overly sweet, and were wonderful with the jam and cream provided. I will be coming back! One minor con was that their interior is not air conditioned during the summer and it gets very hot inside. We were lucky to be get there early enough to request outside seating which was much more tolerable than inside. read more

One of my favorite places to spend time in. The atmosphere is warm, inviting, and the people who work there are fantastic! I use to go all the time and the shrimp salad is amazing, but I am now vegan and with little on the menu I called ahead. Over the weekend I truly enjoyed the holiday tea at Robinson's. It was very festive, elegantly decorated and cozy. The service was suburb and the waitstaff very friendly and on point. This year they added a delicious soup and salad which made it more like a meal. As for the tiers of goodies, well delicious as usual. My favorite were the scones, all made from scratch in their kitchen. I will certainly make sure to be their next year for this holiday treat and I wont be able to stay away between now and than. Adorable tea room in quaint Stony Brook Village. They have every type of tea imaginable, it was hard to choose just one. And each tea is served in your own personal teapot, which is a really cute touch. We normally just come here for lunch so I can't comment on their tea services, but they look delicious from what I've seen of them. The food here is very good as well, never had an issue. Friendly service and atmosphere is perfect, this feels more like a British tea experience than the actual high tea I went to in England. Cute spot for kids as well. As a frequent visitor to Robinsons when it was owned by Loreta and Jim, I was disappointed when they sold it to new owners. However, as the new owners told my party & me that, in addition to purchasing the "Robinson's "name, they also purchased all the tea room's recipes. Unfortunately, this proved to be untrue. I stopped Into the tea room on 7/12. As I was too late for food service ( the kitchen stops serving food at 4:30& I arrived at 4:38) I decided to purchase a scone to take home. I was a little apprehensive as the scone did not look at all like a Robinson's scone, but purchased it just the same. . Upon cutting open the scone, I was appalled to see that the inside of it was raw dough & inedible. So, as "Robinson's" isn't "Robinson's" any more, I'll have to find another tea room on LI to frequent. Any suggestions? read more

I've been coming here for years and love it as much today as when I first walked in! I lived in England for six years and missed my scones with clotted cream until I found Robinson's. The menu is not extensive so everything is always super fresh and perfectly prepared. Yes, on a nice weekend day the wait can be up to a half hour but the tea house is in beautiful Stony Brook Village so you just put your name on the list and it's very easy to lose yourself in the pretty shops or just walking along the shoreline until your table is ready. This place was just too cute. My husband took me here for the very first time, I fell in love right away and can't wait to go back Its very small so don't bring a stroller ! Also it's very expensive. The tea was selection was great and tasted wonderful. They serve it to you in a personal tea pot. For the young children they give them OJ or apple juice in a tea pot. My daughter loved that, she felt extra special. The scones were amazing!!!!!! and that clotted cream, I have no idea what that is but wow it was good. Their other food wasn't all that special. We came across this place completely at random, but are so glad we did. Coming from England, we are well-used to this sort of cafe and the owners have made a very good attempt at providing a traditional experience. Good selection of teas, including PG Tips (as drunk by factory workers and builders) and Yorkshire Gold (one of the better-quality ones and enjoyed at home). The scones were wonderful - much much bigger than the traditional English scones, but home-baked and delicious. A good attempt at providing "clotted cream", which I doubt is well-known in the US and hard to find. It wasn't quite right, but a good substitute. Superb service. Been wanting to come here for the longest time and finally had the chance to. It was so worth the wait. A quaint, adorable little place nestled in the heart of historic Stonybrook. They have over 75 varieties of delicious teas by the cup or pot. We chose a pot of Jasmine blossom green tea. We then enjoyed a cinnamon scone with the clotted cream and jam, absolutely delicious!! my fiance had the chicken salad sandwich and I got the shrimp salad platter. Both phenomenal choices. The ambience is beautiful and it was a most pleasant afternoon. The chef came out to thank us for coming and asked us how we enjoyed everything. We were happy to compliment him. First off, this place is as cute and cozy as all of the posted pictures suggests: the building is buried in the back of a nice little village and is just in the perfect place for a date. The sunlight coming in is actually something I didn't expect to be so happy about, and ALL of the staff were extremely nice and helpful. I didn't get high tea because of the price, but I actually think I would prefer what I got instead. I ordered rose tea, scones, and chicken pot pie with a salad. First off, the tea was just what I wanted: not too sweet tasting but very distinctly rose, and the teacups and saucers were delightful! And the scones, oh man, that's what I'm going to be coming back for. Warm, delicious, I actually didn't like scones in general until I tried these with jam and clotted milk. Perfect. The environment was great, tables not too crowded, a sunny room with actually quite a lot to look at, it's super friendly and even as a college kid, I didn't feel like I stuck out too much. The only "complaint" I had about this place was the chicken pie. It very closely resembled a store brand chicken pie that I have eaten for years of my life. That being said, I've eaten these pies for years because they're great. And these chicken pies were no different, I was just a little disappointed because I expected a homemade pot pie, something a little more grand. But tasty nonetheless. This is the only reason the tea room did not earn 5 stars from me. Overall though, I think this is one of the best places I've taken my girlfriend out for a date. I was not thrilled. I love my tea but the waiter bungled the pot (put way too much loose leaf which made the tea very bitter & blah). The service was not so hot which surprised me. I felt my table was ignored. I couldn't even get a chance to ask for anything really after our food arrived. I will say that the macaroons and the chocolate desserts were very good. I visited this tearoom for the first time yesterday. The attempted atmosphere is good, and the actual tea is excellent, complete with proper teapots, really nice teacups etc. BUT the noise is excessive. Why does a tearoom need Muzak at all? It certainly gets in the way of hearing conversation, which is a major function of a tearoom. And the scones. Why no plain scones, free of added flavors? The scones were acceptable, but for me (English) plain ones would have been best. I also suspect that what should have been at least whipped cream was actually whipped butter. (No, I don't expect Robinson's to be able to get Devonshire clotted cream!) I will be back, but next time I'll at least ask for the amplified noise to be turned down...preferably to zero. read more

Usually great but w new owner not sure anymore - Tuesday around 1pm waited 20 minutes for waitress to take order and no water or menu given. Chopped ham salad which was sparse and bread wet from lettuce on one side and tomatoes on top which I did not order so sub par but usually great. Waitress was new and doing everything including taking orders, clean tables, serving, making pots of tea while the owner was not helping a busy time of day which would have never happened with Loretta the previous owner. Waited a long time for the check and take out items of scones and told the waitress of these issues but no resolution. On recommendation I drove 45 minutes to this quaint little place in Stonybrook and from the start felt uneasy with a growling stomach. We had reservations and arrived 10 minutes early. Watching empty tables and having 3 people ask for our name, and people without reservations going in, we were seated 15 minutes after the reservation time. We ordered tea and the main fun selection that the place is known for but it was not available as we see people around us eating it. Later we find out you should pre order the tier dish selection with your reservation. I still thought 1pm and you ran out of a Saturday lunch special? They ran out of the 3 tier dish. I was not advised about this when I made the reservations in the morning. Eventually we receive tea pots and these odd cups. Little black things with no explaination. Ok. I've never been to a tea house before. I'm saying to myself "did they run out of cute British tea cups?". I'm idiotically drinking out of these cups that turn out to be for the tea leaves. The person next to us ask for cups and then I say is me too. As my mother would say what am I an ""(maybe not politically correct to say today) anyway, as I'm writing this it is 45 minutes after our reservation time still waiting for food and watching other people who were seated not too long before us get fed. 48 minutes, ok I'm starving here it is. We ended up paying a little less for little less food. We had a humus tower and a salad and no scones. I'm not paying for more than I can chew and I'm already pissed off. After we ate my husband went to bathroom which I didn't notice was always Bline in his site in the tiny dining room. 1.5 hrs after reservation time we got a little redemption less one pot of tea on the bill for not having the tier dish for us. Ok, this place had so many stars on yelp that my boyfriend actually wanted to go here. I warned him that it would be a girl place. And girly place it was. Perhaps even too girly for me. It was too girly based on the fact that the portions were SO small for the price. I envisioned something very different. When I walked in, it smelled great and looked cute. But it did not look the price they were serving food for. The owner (I assume he was the owner) went around to every other table but ours to ask how everything was. Perhaps he heard us laughing about where we were going to eat once we ate our mini meals. I am a TINY TINY girl weighing a mere 100 pounds, but I was SO hungry after I left! The food tasted fine, but we weren't about to order two meals each just to fill our stomachs. Needless to say, we won't be coming back. Also, there is this special there where you get this three level thing of food for two. We were excited to try it but when we went there they said that they only served it to people who made reservations for it, I found this very, very strange. My first and LAST visit. read more

I tried Robinson's today for the first time with a girl friend. The tea and scones were both delicious. I tried an apple cinnamon French toast black tea and a cinnamon scone. The entrees left a little to be desired. I tried a chicken Cesar wrap and it didn't taste very fresh and it fell apart before I even took the first bite. It's definitely a cute place with a quaint atmosphere, but where this place is lacking is in customer service. There were three women that I saw working today and not one of them cracked the slightest smile even once! I couldn't believe it. They weren't friendly or welcoming at all. It felt like they were turned off by the fact that we didn't have a reservation. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt... maybe they were just having a bad day. This place has a long standing reputation in the community but I was disappointed on where they sat us. I had made a reservation two weeks prior, who would of thought that they would give us the worst table they had. The place is small and they try to cram as many tables as they can but to sit you practically in the bathroom is totally ridiculous. We had no idea that there was a bathroom immediately behind my chair because there was a coat hanger on the bathroom door, so one would assume it was a closet. It didn't take long before I became the bathroom matron. I had to lean forward depending on the size of the patron wanting to use the bathroom. Customers would interrupt my conversation to ask me if the bathroom was empty. The worst thing was when someone used the bathroom and the odor hit you as they opened the door. No amount of air freshener could help. When the owner came around asking how was everything, we told him the food was very good, which was true but mentioned to him about the sitting problem. He was truly obnoxious. He said "you had to know you were sitting by the bathroom" pointing to an obscured sign hidden practically by patrons coats. I told him I realized soon after we sat. He told us to move the table further back, but that was truly impossible, my friend's chair was already against the wall. I felt he should have been more accommodating, should have offered to move us. I was just mentioning it to him so that future customers wouldn't be subjected to such poor sitting conditions. Obviously he was only interested in the almighty dollar. Sitting people on top of one another doesn't make a nice dining atmosphere. I for one will not be back and none of my friends/co-workers will not be after I tell the about my experience. The owner should have done the right thing, treat people with respect. read more

Sunday was my second tea room and it's definitely worth a repeat visit. The owner, a nice man named Jimmy, was more than pleasant. He was genuinely interested in finding out what we expected, questioned us on any allergies to shellfish, asked questions, all in an attempt to make our visit an excellent one. He certainly succeeded. I am not a seafood person so he substituted the most delicious fresh chicken salad. The cucumber sandwiches where fantastic. Cucumbers had that snap but the bread was not soggy. The ham salad had a nice spice to it that was delicious. The turkey on marble rye was fresh. The dessert tier had a cheesecake bite that was creamy and full of flavor. The key lime mini tarts had just enough bite to them. The raisin scones topped with clotted cream and raspberry jam were so tasty I could have had more. I took home the cinnamon scone to have for dessert a day later and it tasted just as fresh. I just wish some additional clotted cream could have accompanied it! Tea brewed to perfection was provided in substantially sized pots and there was no limit on how many to try. We had three people so each pot provided at least two cups each. Robinson's is very nicely decorated. Most people might say it's small but I think cozy is a better term. Knowledge of the tea was impressive as was the selection. Highly recommended! read more

Robinson's was amazing from start to finish. High tea was $25 per person. You definitely need a reservation for high tea. The reservations fill up quickly, even for weekdays. The attire was casual. The staff was friendly. The food was incredibly. The tea selection was massive. The restaurant was busy but, the service never faltered. The decor is very sweet. A bunch of rude, snooty Brits! Went to lunch with my mom on a quiet Wednesday afternoon. Walked in and we were greeted by a very unfriendly woman who doesnt smile. She asked if we had a reservation. I said no because I didnt know u needed one. (The place was pretty empty when we got there too). She rolled her eyes then sat us down at a dirty table that wasn't set in the back corner. We waited forever for someone to take our drink order or to even get silverware with napkins. When we finally got someone's attention, we ordered our food. Food came a while later and the order wasn't exactly what I asked for. I didnt say anything about that though. But we were still missing silverware to eat with. So I asked her again and she said she will he right back. Another 9 minutes went by and we finally got someone else's attention AGAIN to get our silverware and this girl gave us an attitude about it. She said, "well u should have said something to your waitress otherwise I wouldn't have come over to u." And my response was, "I asked her twice and we were forgotten about. And it would make sense to bring silverware out to our empty table with our food" she just walked away after that. But at least she brought us our silverware after giving us a hard time about it. I would not return here. They don't know how to be polite and caring to their guests. The second we walked in we felt unwelcome. The lady that greeted us made us feel like we were a bother because we didnt have a reservation on a slow Wednesday afternoon. Then just dumped us at a table that wasn't ready. I felt she wanted us out of sight out of mind because that's how she made it seem and her service was not good. We should have walked out. At least the rainbow cookie flavored tea was yummy. I recently visited Robinson's Tea room with a friend after reading such wonderful reviews. The atmosphere is quaint, cutely decorated but felt a bit snug. I ordered a cup of the Buckingham Palace black tea which came with creamer and pure honey. It was served in a lovely British themed tea cup and saucer. I enjoyed my tea with a delicious butterscotch scone which was served warm with raspberry jam and clotted cream (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clotted_cream). For lunch I ordered a chicken salad wrap which comes with lettuce and tomato and a slice of melon and strawberry. I thought the chicken salad was good but I wasn't completely blown away. I would have liked if it came with a small side as the slice of melon is very small. Overall, I would definitely come back for a nice brunch or lunch!
