I read the review and weighed the analysis of Rob's Auto Care. This shop was located on Boston Post Road and Winans Street back in 2002 and moved to Boston Post Road and Thompson Street and the reviews with less than 4 stars, are more than accurate. The credibility of the mechanics is unsatisfactory! I put my beautiful Dodge charger in this shop because the dealer wanted $2500 to fix it and Rob would charge $1800. Good deal, right? Well, when the mechanical told me that he lost the cap for the gas tank, I regrated going here. MY CAR HAD A DOOR THAT YOU OPENED FROM THE INSIDE AND YOU CLOSE THE DOOR AND IT LOCKS. By the time they finished with my car, I could I was confined to the exit/entry lane. I could not get in the hammer lane AKA the third lane or passing lane. After the I got it back and called to complain, I was irate. The lady tending the phones hung up and would not answer. What a way to exercise damage control. I am really surprised that they are still working on cars. I see what they do when they can't fix a car. See pics. The 5-star reviews most likely had their car worked on. For the first time in years, I won't be paying NYC a fine for an expired automobile registration. It's not because the DMV started sending courtesy emails to car owners, or because I was conscientious enough to note the date on my calendar. Nor is it because one of the New York's Finest "traffic agents" let me off with a warning on May 2 that my sticker expired April 30. The reason I my annual inspection took place ahead of an unfortunate ticket is because the gas station attendant at Rob's Auto Service in Larchmont was observant while I filled up and mentioned it to me. On top of that, the station's owner told me he'd inspect the car right away. Not Monday or next week, but immediately. With the exception of New Jersey fill ups, which are often 60 cents per gallon cheaper than anything in New York state, Rob's Citgo station is usually the cheapest in southern Westchester for drivers who prefer to pay with a credit card. (There are cheaper off-brand stations on Main Street, between Webster Avenue and Kings Highway in New Rochelle, but there is a surcharge for credit cards.). I have yet to get an engine fixed here, but this seems like a full-service shop for anything mechanical. read more

Rob's Auto in Larchmont, NY performed quite shoddy work in replacing my front drive axles which resulted in a lot of personal time expended by me and additional expense I had to pay in order to correct the work. I paid Rob's Auto $665 for two new drive axles (driver side and passenger side) and axle seals, plus installation in November 2020. Shortly after Rob's Auto installed the new drive axles and axle seals, both axles leaked trans fluid from the axle seals. I provided Rob's Auto multiple pics of the leak and brought the car back to the shop several times with the hope and expectation that the shop would correct the issue of the axles leaking transmission fluid. Nothing of the sort happened. After bringing my car back to Rob's Auto three times over three months (Dec 2020, Jan 2021, Feb 2021) and getting told each time that the problem of the leaking axles was either not true (after initial return of car) and then 'fixed' (after subsequent returns of car), both axles in fact continued to leak transmission fluid. On the third and final attempt of bringing my car back to Rob's Auto to fix the leaking axles, Rob's Auto covered the exterior of one of the axles with rtv silicone and informed me that this was correct procedure and that the leak was corrected. Not true. Both axles, including the driver axle which now had silicone applied to the exterior its seal, continued to leak. Again I provided Rob's Auto pics of the leaking axles. After three months (December 2020, January 2021 and February 2021) of attempting to engage Rob's Auto directly in order to obtain a remedy for the service performed and/or parts installed by Rob's Auto, I continued to get thwarted through a combination of dismissal and/or poor mechanical service. I had no choice but to remedy the leaking axles another way because Rob's Auto continued to give me the run-around. I had no other option but to pay for the services of a qualified auto mechanic to diagnose and fix the leaking axles. As confirmed by the auto mechanic whom I hired, the direct cause of the leaking axles was damage sustained to the interior of both seals of the right and left axles which was almost certainly the result of the installation of both replacement axles. Diagnosis of Rob's Auto installation work by the third-party mechanic revealed that Rob's Auto failed to install ('seed') the axles correctly which most likely damaged or compromised the effectiveness of the inner axle seals and contributed to the leaking of transmission fluid through both axle seals. The mechanic whom I paid to diagnose the problem further identified the that right (passenger) side axle seal was original and not a new replacement, which was a further surprise to me because I had paid Rob's Auto for the purchase and installation of new axles and axle seals. Finally, I also learned that the driver side axle installed by Rob's Auto was not functioning as was required, most likely either because the axle was the wrong axle for the vehicle and/or the integrity of the axle was compromised during installation. Consequently, the driver side axle that Rob's Auto installed, and for which I paid Rob's Auto, needed replacing with another new axle. Also, the driver side axle seal, the exterior of which Rob's Auto covered in silicone, as well as the passenger side axle seal, were most definitely leaking transmission fluid. The net of all this hassle is that I am out $1,000 to replace the two drive axles and axle seals of my car: $665 that I paid Rob's Auto to install two new axles and axle seals and an additional $340 which I needed to pay a qualified mechanic to diagnose and fix the installation work by Rob's Auto which involved removing and replacing the driver side axle with a new axle, and replacing both seals with new seals. After the corrective work done by the mechanic whom I had not choice but to hire, neither axle leaks transmission fluid. The mechanic offered for me to observe the mechanical service performed and also talked me through and physically pointed out to me the mechanical corrective work performed. Spent thousands on my classic vehicle here in 2020 only to be told by a different mechanic of the poor workmanship. Returned car to Rob's. "Oh yeah, it was just this and that, we fixed the issue." That scenario played out twice. Now, I'm told a leak is caused by yet another issue that I paid Rob's to fix just about 100 miles ago. Avoid this place. This is my first negative review on Yelp. The owner is a scammer, my battery went dead and he tested the alternator and said it was bad. I just had him replace the battery and the alternator belt (wanted to charge me $90 for a belt smh). I had the alternator rechecked for free at advanced auto parts and it was working just fine. Charged me $100 for labor to throw a new battery and belt on, which took less than 30 minutes to do. The whole time he was acting like he was a good guy and doing me a favor. These hole in the wall mechanics are crooks! Don't believe any 5 star shady reviews with a hand full of reviews and no friends, aka paid reviewers. read more

Rob seemed like a quality mechanic. He replaced the batteries in my Ford Mini Bus and got me back on the road. I month later I got stopped for gas and the truck wouldn't start. it turns out they never tightened the battery trays and they were hanging from the bottom of the truck. They also just stuck the main chassis ground in the battery terminal. I called three times to talk to Rob to see if he could make good on the poor workmanship. He never returned my call. I went to Rob's Auto Care Inc. on Thursday September 11 to get a New York State safety inspection. I waited in the office while they were supposed to be preforming the inspection for an hour before they even pulled my car car in to the bay. Once they pulled they pulled they car they didn't actually do anything with it except look under the hood. They did lift the car on the lift but did not remove the tires or inspect the wheels or the back of the car at all. At this point an hour and a half had gone by and the receptionist came to me to with a long list of things that they said they had found wrong with the car. First thing she said was that the front brakes were bad and the rotors needed to be turned. I was immediately concerned that their prognosis of my car was false. I had just had my brakes checked and my rotors turned in June. Plus they hadn't even taken any of my wheels off so I thought it was hard for them to have done a proper inspection. At this point I told her that I didn't believe them and I would like them to return my car to me. At this time the owner insisted on showing me the brakes and rotors, I told him I wasn't interested but they still had possession of my car so I reluctantly allowed him to show me the brakes and rotors. Although when we got to the car it was only the brakes that needed to be changed the rotors no longer needed to be turned. Once out there he tried to show me the brakes through the rims but you couldn't see it well enough. He asked the mechanic to take the tire off so we could see the brakes. At this time the the mechanic said he needed the wheel key to take the tire off (which reaffirms that he never took any of my tires off during the inspection). Once the tire was off the story changed to the brakes didn't need to be changed but were close. After this he went further to tell me my rear shocks/struts were leaking and this would cause my car to fail the inspection. I wonder how they saw this if the they never took the tire off let alone got near the rear end of the car during the inspection. At this time I demanded he lower my car and return it to me. He finally did but did some emission testing and gave me a paper stating my car failed inspection based on front end shock/struts. Well today I took my car to the dealership to be inspected and not surprisingly it passed. I am writing this complaint because they may have only swindled me out of the $37 for the inspection but they had told they man before me the same thing was wrong with his car, it sounds like this may be a swindle they use often and I would like to save unsuspecting victims the misery of their con. read more

Rob and the crew have been servicing my cars for about 10 years. I've always received a fair price and quality service. I can stop in at any time to just check air pressure and fluid levels. They are always willing to help and now that my daughter is driving I know that I can send her there without me and know that she will be taken care of. read more

My wife always bought gas here, so decided to get her NYS Inspection here. She was told she needed a brake job even though no noises or problems were noticed by her or me. After getting a second opinion at the dealer, who you would think would say she needed one, we were told that they had PLENTY of mles left on them. I would say, if you are a woman, definitely get a second opinion on any recommended work suggested by Rob's!!! read more

If I could give this place zero stars i so would. I went in about a week ago for an oil change and to get an estimate for a leak. I left my car there and picked it up after work. When I got into my car there was a note on my steering wheel saying "NO BRAKES". When before I dropped it off my brakes were PERFECTLY fine. I asked the lady inside to see what was the issue and she said well you brought your car here like that. I told her my brakes were perfectly fine before bringing my car here. She caught an attitude and had one of the guys check it again. Come to find out they never tightened a rod that connects to my brakes system. I could've killed myself. The lady apologized up and down. That same night on my way home my check engine light came on. I have never had an issue with my car. Now a week later from the time I brought in my car originally my Radiator has exploded. I have told several people my story from the neighborhood and they all say the same thing.. They SABOTAGE your car to tell you something is wrong with it so they can make more money.. worst place I have ever been to in my life!! I will be reporting this issue to the better business bureau.
