I've been to this restaurant twice now, And I can tell you that if you want to go to a seafood restaurant with not that many people, where it is quiet...This is a place to come, as it's very empty. So that leaves the staff at the ready, whenever you come in. Initial service is very quick after they take your requests for drinks and they bring in some chips and salsa. We did not order appetizers. Entrees were ordered after a few minutes. **Quick review from the last time: I had the bacon-wrapped shrimp platter ( I forgot what it was called on the menu) and the shrimp did not taste fresh and instead had a funky taste to it which later got me feeling a little sick. I was fine after I had an antacid. So for this visit, I avoided that dish. I got the shrimp enchiladas with salsa verde, And it was good, decent. Not bad but not amazing. The platter came with either soup or salad and that was self-serve on the side. ***A note on the salad: it is NOT all fresh. The beets, the mushroom, the corn, is out of a can.*** There's room for improvement there, so there's that. They provided us with chips and salsa. The salsa that comes with the chips is not spicy. So if you don't like spicy, this one's pretty good for you. It has a decent flavor. But not amazing. We asked for a spicier salsa and instead was given chili oil. More oil than chili for sure. I tried it, wasn't impressed. Overall, it's decent but after two times, I wouldn't say I'd go back, though i see that there's so much more room for improvement. read more

I'm listing Rocamar with a 4, but I am being rather gracious because of their wide-ranging selection, overall consistency, their kind down to earth local staff, and the fact they have been in the San Fernando community for a loooooong time. THEY ARE NOT FLASHY!!!!! They know how to have fun though!!! The food though..... They have everything from pulpo cocktails to "Camerones Rocamar" which is bacon wrapped jalapeño and shrimp, covered with white cheese over rice with A BAKED POTATO. It's really got a nostalgic vibe, 90s suburban Mexican American food. If not they have shrimp prepared over a dozen ways, or various fish dishes, 7 mares, Mojarra Frita, Orange Roughy, ORRRR. the newly added Mocajete!!!! Synopsis is... I wasn't sure what I wanted for lunch. Than, I remembered I used to have lunch at Rocamar with my coworkers and we always had a tasty one. Our relationship with Rocamar started about 15 years ago, we used to come here so often that we end up becoming friends with the owner and stuff. And we would get treated so well every single time We became friends with Rosa, one of their waitresses, who was just so wonderful and friendly. Always had a smile on her face. Than due to me getting sick, than pandemic, resulted in not being here for over 5 years. Well, today, when my ex coworker texted me and asked if I wanted to meet her for lunch, it felt like the good old times and both of us decided to have a take out from Rocamar. I called to see if they were open, and to my surprise I recognized Rosa's voice, she remembered me too and it was just great. We went to pick up our lunch. It was good seeing everyone, especially was great to see Rosa again, and to see that friendly face. We got our food and it tasted as delicious as always. I ordered fillet of fish stuffed with octopus and shrimp, it was simply delicious. Next time, it's the whole fish time, fried or grilled whole tilapia, yum. I was just glad to see them open and thriving. Good food, good service and authentic atmosphere. If in the area, go ahead and check them out. The restaurant is a bit outdated when it comes to looks, but the tables are clean, and the staff is welcoming. Hablan Español y Ingles. A fancy scene is nice, but not what I focus on when it comes to eating somewhere. So if you're basing it on 'vibes,' this isn't the place for you. They've got a variety of food options at a reasonable price. They don't have their liquor license, but you can choose from a variety of non alcoholic beverages, wine, or beer. The oysters, this time I went, didn't taste very fresh. Previously, they've been great! But I recommend ordering the Parillada, an assortment of seafood selections on top of rice. It is very flavorful, filling, and at a reasonable price. Salivating just thinking about it. I highly recommend it. You can share with 2 others or take the leftovers home because its still delcious to have for the next two days. For dessert, if you want, I suggest a flan. read more

Bad customer service and bad tasting food. First the lady hanged up on me when I asked for a price and then I called back to order again and the lady didn't even apologize just rushed me to finish ordering. Not good at all. Went in today and ordered a caldo de camaron hard to get that wrong. It was the nastiest thing I've ever tasted. It tasted like hot ocean water. No flavor or seasoning at all not even salt. Just hot fish water. I pulled out my salt less shrimp and dipped them in the salsa from the chips and ate those. $20 basically for some boiled shrimp. I would have expected them to ask me if everything was ok with my food since the entire bowl of fish water went back but no one asked. Never going again. There is a reason no one talks about this place anymore. Food is horrible and so are the fake Agua frescas. The food looked and tasted like it was leftovers from yesterday and not good leftovers either! The Aguas are not authentic, looked and tast like they used some sort of syrup to make the drinks. This is such a great family oriented place! We're always greeted like family here. The food is always delicious. Great drinks, highly recommend the 80ounce tower. I usually get the cheese enchiladas since I'm don't eat meat. The soup and salad bar is phenomenal. I don't feel like the lettuce is old there. Positives: Good food. Food came out quickly. Staff was friendly. Negatives: Slooooooooooooow service. Never got a soda refill. I had to flag the waitress down to pay the bill, more than 10 minutes after I had finished eating. Overall: It was a bit busy, so some amount of slowness can be expected, but they should have more people working so they dont have this issue. The food was worth coming back, but the slow service makes it unlikely that I ever will. There are too many places out there with good food AND good service to waste my time here again. Also, side note: WTF is up with bringing ketchup to the table in a mexican/seafood restaurant?!? My family and I no longer eat there because of this and we put up with it now because we just pick up the order to go and the chef is not at fault for this person, the food was amazing! Today however, the food was the worse it's ever been in the 10+ years I've been a patron of this place. My dininng experience here was great. Started with warm, fresh and tasty chips with salsa. I scarfed the first bowl of these down super quick. Thats right, we had more than just one bowl of chips, they were that good. Went on to eat some great enchiladas, with some beans and rice. And also couldn't help but order their cheese and chorizo dip. This was served with a stack of warm tortillas. Very yummy! I left this place super full and satisified.
