The tortillas were still good, but they were out of key meats like asada and cabeza, and no one could explain why. My second time visiting this taco spot. My previous review talks about how much I like this place. But my first time here I only got the tacos. On this trip, I got my usual go to at taco trucks which is a couple of tacos and a mulita! Just as delicious as I remembered. I came through on the later side, so there wasn't that long of a line. The place was really chill on the people were really friendly. This place is located in Sylmar, which is where the 5 and the 405 converge. So if I haven't gotten food yet, it's a great stop on the way up to see my folks in the Bay Area. So glad I did. I think I should start making a tradition whenever I drive up. read more

Execution is slightly ehhh lower but given the cooks have changed and the truck has been around for a while it still gets a pass. Obviously the prices have gone up significantly. $14 for asada fries +$1 for extra cheese. The amount of fries, cheese, frijol (normally I get these fries no frijol) asada, salsa and the onions can easily feed 2 people. I can get through 1/2 before I'm tapping out. This taco truck was not good at all. No flavor and the meat felt cheap not like great quality. They get two stars for providing extra salsa and packing well. They don't have a menu just got to speak Spanish enough to know what they sell pretty much. Service was fast but not great. Area was dirty in the surrounding area. I have been coming to this Mexican food truck now for 2 to 3 years for the most part they have great Tacos and great customer service. But recently something has changed the quality of their meats has changed. The al Pastor or Carne Asada meats have been fatty and just very chewy. I love this place!! They have a good variety of food and meat options to choose from. I usually get asada and cabaza. I've had their tacos, mulitas, quesadillas, nachos, fries and tortas. My go to is cabeza tacos and an asada torta. Their cabeza is one of the best I've had.. so flavorful and tender and not super fatty. Give them a try. The food here is good, but the service was extremely disappointing and shady. I want to warn people to be careful when paying here, especially because they are cash only. Today, the cashier gave me the wrong change. My total was $27, and I paid with $40 -- I should have received $13 back, but she only gave me $3. I didn't notice right away because I was rushing to grab my food and put my money away, but I got a bad feeling because of how she looked at me, so I asked for a receipt. She claimed she couldn't print one from the register and instead scribbled one down by hand, very messily. When I realized the mistake, I called them, She didn't even argue -- she just told me to come back so she could give me the missing $10. When I got there, she already had the cash waiting behind the register, which felt very suspicious. This experience makes me feel like they may be doing this on purpose, hoping customers won't notice. So please be careful: always count your change and demand a receipt. The specialty here : Carne Asada. That's what I got along with a couple other meats (Lengua, Al Pastor)... that handmade corn tortillas wow, wow, wow! And probably some of the best habanero salsa I've had in a while. There are 3 salsas: habanero, verde, avocado all good. I thought a combo of habanero with avocado salsa was a perfect medium. Got here on a Sunday night and while standing in line the locals tell me it's best to call ahead as the lines get VERY long - it's a busy taco truck even though I went during down time. The truck parks right out front of Bank of America and thats where we parked at night with no problems, during the daytime it's probably best to street park on Foothill. Cons: None. I did wish I ordered more food, lol. Lastly, what's the other top rated two taco spots? Coming in 2nd is Taco Nazo for fish tacos ( it's alright); and 1st place is Ed Fernandez Birrieria in San Diego (never been). Personally for me? Taqueria Mi Ranchito is my no 1 spot. I've been stopping by for over a decade and this place never fails to impress. Burritos, mulitas, asada fries, and particularly the tacos are bomb. Love watching them roll out little balls of dough and make tortillas right in front of you. Bomb Horchata and AMAZING salsas, particularly the habanero and avocado. Workers are always super chill. Amazing carne asada here!! I stopped by the truck during lunch time, and it was posted on the sidewalk between the bank and car wash. I found it easy to park in the bank parking lot and walk over. I ordered carne asada fries and tacos al pastor and asada. These were worth the 40 minute drive! The asada was savory and slightly smoky. Everything on the carne asada fries melded together into the perfect bite. And the salsas were fire, too! I'd say you could probably skip the pastor and just order everything asada.
