They can't really advertise from the street, and I probably wouldn't have found it without Yelp! The wines are excellent and come with a great story. One detail I especially loved is that they age their wines in Hungarian oak, which gives them something a little different and special. Gwen, the tasting room manager, was fantastic. She was welcoming, knowledgeable, and really took the time to tell us the story behind the wines and Obsidian. The tasting room has only been at this location for about two years, but it feels like one of those Sonoma spots you're glad you discovered. The space itself is small, modern, relaxed, and friendly. There's outdoor seating for beautiful Sonoma days, but if it's really hot, I recommend sitting inside and enjoying the AC. Definitely worth seeking out if you're around Sonoma Square. We were first introduced to them back when they had their tasting room at Cornerstone Gardens in Sonoma. The setting there was incredibly welcoming--especially with our three young kids at the time--and between the atmosphere and the wines, we were hooked from the start. The wines are consistently outstanding. Their Lake County lineup really stands out, and the Volcanic Estate Cabernet has been a go-to in our house for years--it's always been reasonably priced and somehow overdelivers every single time we open a bottle. On the other end of the spectrum, the Half Mile is more of a special occasion wine for us, and it never disappoints. Winemaker Alex clearly knows what he's doing--his reds are fantastic across the board. The Cabernet, Petit Verdot, and Malbec from that volcanic Lake County fruit are bold, expressive, and incredibly well made. We've been wine club members for years now, which says a lot. Great wines, great people, and a place that's been part of our family's wine journey for a long time. Highly recommend.

An additional cheese selection and some good bread would have made it feel more balanced. There were some really annoying flies in the tasting room, which were difficult to keep off our board. The wines were good and the education component was excellent. But at $60 to $70 per tasting, plus food charges, the value was not quite there for us. I'd give it 3.5 to 4 stars. A nice place to linger in Sonoma, particularly if you appreciate a tasting room on the town square, thoughtful wine education & strong AC on a hot Sonoma summer day.

It was fun browsing the store too. And of course the tasting and charcuterie board were a fantastic experience. I loved the cheeses and almonds they had. They own two iconic vineyards, Durell (famous for its Chardonnay) and Gap's Crown (famous for its Pinot), among others. The property is absolutely stunning - even though it's only a couple blocks off the plaza, it feels like you've been transported away from the hustle and bustle of the main square into a quiet retreat where you can escape the Sonoma heat and enjoy a nice lineup of wines. For me, this is always a solid experience, albeit on the pricier side for the area, but a couple of things would go a long way to improving the experience. (1) Making reservations is a pain, which involves submitting a request, waiting to hear back from someone in the tasting room, then using a payment link sent to you to confirm the booking. For a winery offering such an elevated tasting experience (and price point), you'd think they would be able to support live availability and instant booking like basically all other wineries in the area. Additionally, they made kind of a big deal about getting the names of everyone in the party, but then never once greeted us by name. (2) The tasting experience itself felt a lot more hands off and our host didn't seem as knowledgeable. This was immediately after Auteur, where the host was incredibly knowledgeable about the various vineyard sources and pretty much all aspects of the vinification process, so perhaps our expectations were a bit elevated. Still, it kind felt as if the wines were poured, a brief (and basic) explanation given, then we were on our own to enjoy the wines. We may have been checked in on only a couple of times over 2 hours. (3) Purchasing wine is just as frustrating as making a reservation. This is insane IMO. They can't swipe a card so instead, we have to write all of this down on a slip to be processed later? It just feels antiquated and if I'm to be 100% honest, not all that secure. In terms of value, you get essentially 5 tasting pours - 1 rose, 2 chards, 2 pinots, which IMO, isn't a great value at $85/tasting. Compare this with Auteur where for $60, we had 1 rose, 3 chards, and 4 pinots :)

Skip all the fussy, overpriced wineries and head to Roche! Family owned and operated and they treat their customers like part of the family as well! By far my favorite spot in Sonoma! It doesn't get much better than this when it comes to a great downtown spot to taste wine and relax. Not only do they have great wines (their Unoaked Chardonnay is to die for) it is a family and dog friendly spot! I am a Sonoma local and with no hesitation joined their Wine Club. I love all of the parties with especially the amazing catering done by owner Mara Roche. It is the first place I bring any out of town guest. I feel it is the perfect example of what Sonoma Valley is all about, welcoming, relaxing and fun. So I say stop what you're doing, pack up a picnic and your pooch and head over to Roche for a bottle or two of their award winning wines! read more

Wine is pleasant and nice, we enjoyed the atmosphere and knowledgeable staff. However, there is one employee by the name of Harry that women customers should be wary of. To be blunt, Harry is a married man who states he is single in the hopes of dating unsuspecting , innocent women who he professes is 'undying love' for: uses then discards. Harry is a pathological liar. Ladies, be warned , please....Harry is not who he says he is; he will say anything to gain your trust , and ladies I do mean anything...PLEASE BEWARE OF HARRY as he is a toxic person who uses women. read more

Eh. That's all I can use to describe my tasting experience at Roche. The wines were OK, not great and the service was mediocre. We ended up leaving before the tasting was over because we were underwhelmed. There was only one person to pour for the whole outside area and thus we ended up standing around waiting for a majority of the time and then receiving little to no information about the wine once it was poured. Won't be back and won't be recommending to others. read more

This was just ok for me. So many other tasting rooms in the downtown square. They ran out of a lot of the reds, so we didn't get a chance to try any of them. Of course, the "reserve" wines were avail, but ended up taking home the Muscat. That was a nice pick. read more

It would have been super easy to take even a portion of it but all of my stuff was kept safe! Overall, this is an honest establishment with good morals and good wine! All the wines were so delicious, we both really enjoyed them. Ended up leaving with a Sauvignon Blanc and a Pinot. YUM. I can't wait to buy more of their wines in the future, it was a great experience.

We were served by Fran, who was so knowledgeable and had some super cool tattoos that my friends and I were in awe of. We tried the sylvaner, chardonnay, syrah, and pinot noir. The light bites were delicious as well and were filling for our group of 5! They brought out a salad with rosemary roasted almonds, anchovy vinaigrette, fried olives, blistered shishito peppers, green beans and gigante beans, and toast with roasted tomatoes, dill, basil, and a cheese(?). Everything was so fresh and such a delicious pairing with our drinks. We also got a splash of their vermuth at the end. We were told that Scribe acquired some of the property next door so they'll be focusing on estate wine creation. My girls and I went for my best friend's birthday and we honestly had such a wonderful time. When you call and inquire they tell you that non-members can only book on weekdays, so my girls and I made a reservation on a Friday. You pay up front for the total amount of people, which also includes tax and service tip, so when you arrive on the day of your reservation, no payment whatsoever is needed! It was $85, and with tax and service fee it came out to $111 each. When my girls and I arrived, we were greeted by a host named, Justin. She was immensely warm and inviting, basically sunshine in a person, and made us feel so welcome and comfortable!! She poured us a welcome glass of rose, and my girls and I were able to walk around the property (which was truly stunning) with our glasses. When we were seated, we were served rosemary almonds, and our server came up and introduced the history of the venue, as well as the menu, and wine. The menu was set, and it was absolutely incredible. This was the first time I felt as though this experience included an actual MEAL rather than an array of small bites or a small charcuterie platter: 1. fried olives 2. tomatoes and cucumbers with whipped feta (MY FAVORITE) 3. Prosciutto, melon and basil 4. Braised butterbeans with SCRIBE olive oil 5. House-made flatbread (so delicious) The wine was amazing, of course. Sophia…read morestarted off strong and provided great communication, including letting us know when she was leaving and that another host would be taking over. Unfortunately, once the coverage person stepped in, we were essentially forgotten about for over 20 minutes. At that point, we were frustrated and honestly getting ready to leave. Victor then came over, asked if we needed help, and completely turned the experience around. From that moment on, he was attentive, welcoming, and genuinely made an effort to take care of us. He was able to uplift an experience that had gone downhill quickly, and we really appreciated him stepping in. He reminded us that hospitality is still around and delivered the best services.

We enjoyed a variety of wines, and re-tasted a couple as well. There was a wedding that evening, so they were closing at 5 pm. If you're someone who wants to walk around or not be rushed it may be best to come earlier.

Had such an odd experience! 8/2 came by for a tasting for a party of two and the door was locked…read more Weird since the hours online and the sign said they were open. We left, went to another tasting and came back about an hour later thinking maybe they were on lunch. Still closed during the hours. There was an elderly couple outside trying to get in and were a bit flustered. This couple paid for their reservations online, showed up and had no communication from them. We were calling all the numbers with no answer. I checked social media and no postings. As annoying as it was for us, I felt horrible for this couple that drove far for this and were ghosted and out of money. Unacceptable. Really wanted to try this place out but too many great places near by it. With response from the owner. Moved my review to a neutral star. Never trying to "ruin" a place, but give my experience. Hope the employee is okay, emergencies happen. Would hope in future there could be a post on their socials about a last minute closure or have the owner or another employee put a sign up or take over last minute. When people travel to try something, the 21st century checks updates online. As for the couple, they were older and were emailing and calling. Still feel bad for them. Thanks for the response David.

His charm and passion for fine wine was a fabulous addition to our tasting experience! He started off our tasting with a brief overview of the winery and its history. As we began our tasting and were guided through each wine, Robert taught us about its history, key notes, and even had jars of the different terrain each wine was grown in! Overall, Fulcrum was fantastic! Our wine tasting experience felt exclusive and tailored. The whole experience allowed us to delve deeper into the world of wine! Thank you Robert!!

We had the pleasure of attending their Sunset Sips and Sounds event, where owners Rich and Joan were incredibly warm and hospitable from the moment we arrived, creating an atmosphere that makes you instantly relax and want to stay awhile. The setting itself is stunning, peaceful vineyards, rolling hills, and live music. Rich performing on his Chapman Stick and guitar was the perfect complement to the surroundings. It added this soulful, intimate feeling that made the entire experience unforgettable. We had two bottles of their Double Gold winning 2021 Syrah Zinfandel blend, and it was delicious. Layered, smooth, and dangerously easy to keep drinking. Places like this are rare now. Authentic, personal, creative, and completely unpretentious. We'll definitely be back!

Had their 2021 North Coast Pinot at dinner the night before and made a bee line for their tasting room the next day. Vinyl spinning on the turntable, stories of the Grateful Dead and organic farming. Went to buy because it looked like they had no tastings available and stayed for close to two hours. Bought a broad sampling of varietals and beautiful blends, joined Phil's club and left for home armed with a great story to share with friends and neighbors. Go here and drink deep!

They were also very knowledgeable about all wines and even offered tastings off of the tasting menu, some of which we ended up purchasing bottles of. They also have an olive oil.
