Do not buy a vehicle from these clowns under any circumstances. I have a 2017 Toyota Tacoma that is garage parked with 26k miles on it. Rust is forming in the driver side door sill. It's an issue with Toyotas. I brought them in to have them fix it under a service bulletin. Toyota denied the claim as being too late - that's on Toyota not Rochester Toyota. However, the service manager never informed me of the decision despite me calling every week for a status update. In fact, he never once returned my call. I don't know if he knows how to operate a phone. The service techs all pass the buck. Very unprofessional. read more

LETHAL NEGLIGENCE AND TOTAL GHOSTING BY MANAGEMENT I am writing this to warn anyone considering servicing their vehicle at Toyota of Rochester. We experienced two life-threatening incidents due to extreme mechanical negligence, and management is now completely ghosting us. 1. First Incident: After a routine oil change, the car started smoking on the highway. Technicians failed to tighten components correctly, causing a massive oil leak. They admitted fault and gave us a service credit. 2. Second Incident: We used that credit to buy new tires here. After pickup, the car felt dangerously unstable. We took it to another Toyota service center in Dover for an independent inspection. The result was horrifying: ALL 24 WHEEL LUG NUTS WERE LEFT LOOSE. My husband could have lost a wheel on the highway. We have an open case with Toyota Corporate, but the Rochester management has refused to return our calls for over two weeks. I have attached the official report from the Dover service center proving that all 24 bolts were loose. This level of safety violation is criminal. STAY AWAY! read more

Warning, this location is absolutely full of it. I was ready to finalize a deal this morning on a specific car I was looking for. Spoke to one of their sales guy early in the morning on the phone, agreed on price, submitted the documents they needed for financing. All that to eventually get a call that there was a deposit put on the car 'less than an hour' ago. First issue, the aforementioned acquisition process was started well before that so I asked for them to come through with our previous agreement. Upon transfer to one of the sales manager in order to set this straight, now I am to deal with a complete change of tune. The new story I'm given is that one of the document I sent them was falsified so they won't sell me the car. The document in question was a picture of my driver's license where my address was blurred out. Picture that was on my phone for a whole different previous use and sent to them by mistake. This was rectified immediately and all proper documents with address visible and address verification were submitted. Now, what I would absolutely bet actually happened is that they sold the car at a higher price (this is a sought after model) and came up with all kind of stories to get out of our agreement. So in conclusion, I was threated like a fraudulent criminal in order for them to make more profit. Unbelievable and absolutely unacceptable. read more

I normally refrain from writing bad reviews, but if this helps one customer, it's worth it. Unfortunately I'm my circumstance the dealer shoes to line it's pockets over reputation. Inquired about a vehicle that was listed 5k over the average listing price, photos and dialog with staff indicated it to be in "great"condition. I purchase many cars out of state, and have dealt with numerous dealers over the years. I asked if the car was inspected by the dealer when it was brought in, I was told "yes". Dealers will typically throw it on a lift, check fluids, etc to ensure the car is ready to sell. That being said, they certainly would have seen the rust, and should have informed me. It's rather unethical that they sold me a car in this condition, and I even reached out to see if they would make it right. They said the car wasn't legal in their state so they couldn't get a "state" inspection, which has nothing to do with my purchase since I'm in Alabama. Then they said this is just surface rust, no ownership, not integrity, and purely unethical. Highly recommend not dealing with this dealer if your out of state. I bought this car for slightly more than it's worth under the guise it was in great shape, and as you can see it was severely neglected. Coolant was also leaking, and if a tech looked at the spark plugs, I wouldn't even get my car serviced there. Im contemplating legal options, because the vehicle has been grossly misrepresented, and every opportunity to to be candid with its condition was missed, and likely hidden since I bought the car out of state. Any attempt to offer a remedy before this review fell on deaf ears. Couple updates in addition to the Google review posted: All three motor mounts are bad, rust throughout the undercarriage, oil filter was seized, and had to be cut off (no way the car saw service before being sold to me).... In general, there's no way they should have listed the car in the condition, or the price they did. Listen to the other reviewers, don't do business with them. I'm shocked they thought this was a 25k dollar car, these sold brand new for 19,000, and the cleanest examples of this car re-sale for about 20k. The fact that they overpriced in this condition seems to be a tactical money grab. Had I seen this car in person, I would have walked, which is why they could only find a buyer out of state....... They can come up with excuses that I had it inspected, but they know the exact condition of the car, and didn't disclose a single negative thing about the car, nor have they taken any ownership, no will they. read more

I am not one to typically write reviews, but I feel it is necessary to prevent another customer from falling into the trap that I did. Back in June, I bought a used ford focus in "perfect condition" from this lot for $11,700. I wanted an extended warranty, but was told the bank holding my loan had refused to offer one. I should have walked away right then, but as a first time buyer at 19 I made the mistake of continuing with the purchase of the vehicle. When I reached out to the bank after my car broke (which I realize now I should have done prior to purchase), they made me aware that I could have selected the extended warranty as they had never declined it. Due to this being an official dealership, I never suspected I would be lied to while purchasing a vehicle, but will never make that mistake again. From the start of driving it, I noticed a bit of a stall or jerking sensation when driving. Due to it being a hybrid vehicle, I thought this was normal. When it got worse, I called to make an appointment prior to my warranty expiring. I was told it would cost $200 to have it looked at and unfortunately had personal circumstances that prevented me from getting it over to them (I was in the hospital). When I arrived home, my warranty had expired and I explained that I had been in the hospital. They refused to work with me on this and explained that I did not have the extended warranty that I had requested during purchase, explaining again that the bank declined it. This is when I called the bank and realized this had been a fluke. Now it was November, 3 1/2 months following purchase. My car started jerking really bad and broke down, nearly unable to steer off the road. I had it towed to them and was directed to Rochester ford across the street who explained that this was due to the transmission. Now if you know about 2016-2018 fords, they have a warranty on one part of the transmission which Toyota had explained to me at the time of purchase, but did not explain that when this broke so did the entire transmission. Rochester Ford took me in, gave me a loaner vehicle, and ordered the part for my car. They were fantastic and I would highly recommend them as a dealer. When the part came in, they took my car apart and saw that the entire transmission was shot, but this clearly did not occur over the past few months (it was overtime damage). The car was totaled and transmission would cost $9,000 to replace. I called Toyota and explained the situation to them, but was only offered $500 for my car as they tried to sell me another vehicle. They explained to me since I had purchased a ford from them, they only had equipment to test as if it was a Toyota, but their equipment had passed it through. I refused to purchase another vehicle from them as I am not one to make a mistake twice. Now I am waiting to hear back from the antitrust bureau of New Hampshire as there is no lemon law in NH to support used car purchases. I am still being offered $500 for the vehicle and 4 months later was made aware that the car needs to be paid off (over $7,000) before I can even sell it. Please do not ever make the mistake of purchasing a vehicle from this dealership. I am unsure of how their Toyota purchases go, but due to the other reviews I have read, would steer clear of this dealership all together. I had my car brought in and had to have a valve replaced in my engine. Cost me $2100. The repair was done promptly and I had nothing bad to say about that. When I picked it up I noticed that the gas mileage seemed off and the miles to empty display was half of what it was when I had brought the vehicle in. When I called the service department they told me it was the gas I was using and not to worry about it. It was the same gas that was in there when I picked it up but I gave it a couple weeks. When I went in for an oil change and asked about the miles to empty readout and why the low fuel light was coming on when it now said 15 miles instead of 40 I was told it had nothing to do with them and that there was nothing wrong with my vehicle. Obviously if something has changed while my vehicle was in their possession I'd think it had something to do with the job they did but they refused to take any responsibility for it and wrote on the invoice that it wasn't anything related to the repairs they performed. I emailed in my dissatisfaction and never heard anything back so I thought I could live with it. I couldn't I emailed again to Toyota corporate and this time got a response from their service dept manager. He told me that I could bring the car in and get it looked at and they would give me a car to use. Great. I dropped it off and they gave me a car and I went on my way. Later in the day I received a call saying it was ready. Apparently they reset something and now the car has to learn the way I drive. Great. It's a good explanation and all I had wanted. When I was reading the invoice it again said that this had nothing to do with their service. I do not understand how resetting my vehicle has erased all of my driver info and the vehicle has nothing to do with the service they performed. I went to ask the service manager about it and thank him for the rental car and as I entered his office has introduced myself I was greeted with an exasperated eye roll, heavy sigh and he said "I knew you'd be back in now what?" That is not a way to treat any customer. If I have questions about my service and I want an explanation of what's wrong with my vehicle I do not understand why I should be treated like I'm the biggest annoyance. No wonder the people working in the service dept are so dismissive, the attitude runs downhill. I can say that I wont be bringing my vehicle back to Rochester Toyota and will be letting everyone I know to avoid them as well. Recently purchased a car from Rochester Toyota. I'm a first time car buyer and was hoping for a good experience buying a used car from them. However, a few things made my experience far from ideal. First, three days after purchasing the car, it wouldn't reverse. Obviously this was concerning and I had to have my vehicle towed up to the dealership because I was told Rochester Toyota doesn't offer towing services. They then told me it was a loose bolt and that they were sorry and they didn't charge me for fixing it. But it still cost me to tow the car and get an Uber up to the dealership to pick up the car ( note* the service person I spoke with was genuinely helpful and kind so I appreciated that). Then, just weeks after I purchased my car, Rochester Toyota sent me a written offer to buy my car back (they send this every month or so). Nothing wrong with this except they offered me the "Kelley Blue Book value" of my car... nearly six thousand dollars less than I paid them just weeks before. During my talks with the salesman I worked with (who seemed inconvenienced by my wanting to buy the car that day) I was told repeatedly that the Kelley Blue Book numbers I kept bringing up were really low and that they need to "keep the lights on" at the dealership. So basically, they oversold me on my first car so that they could make more profit and then had the audacity to send me repeated written offers for what they say the car is actually worth. Really disappointed that a dealership would treat a first time car buyer this way. You hear how bad car salesman/dealerships can be and I now understand why. read more

Had a scheduled appointment today and the salesmen that welcomed me was poorly trained! He didn't introduce himself or explain what was going on. He only asked me 1 question, which was about my trade in. He spent 10 minutes with paper work and ignored me has he worked. He didn't offer me any information, customer service or just a cup of coffee. I just wanted to see the car I was interested in and he said that he wanted to work the value of my trade first to get it out of the way. I WAS CONTACT AFTER I LEFT BY A MANGER WHO SAID THE SAME THING. This manager then tried to tell me that things could be done better, and then the hung up on me when I wasn't happy. That is the kind of people they have over there I guess. If you aren't happy with their approach they hang up on you and don't call you back. This is completely wrong, the customer should get to see the product they are interested in first before anything. I was keep from that until they were ready. The salesman and then the manager have a system they put in place to keep the customer in their place while they work the numbers and the paper work. Is this troubling because the customer should be catered to if they want us to buy. What ever happened to the customer also being right? The dealership HAS to change it's approach if they want people to shop their. Customers should be the ones setting the rules and explaining what they want, not the salesman or their managers. I advise others who want to purchase a Toyota not to go to Rochester as they are working against the customer in my opinion. read more

OK, first off, why a three star rating? Good question. They are three star because they are average, typical and nothing makes them stand out either way as far as quality, service, price etc. A very typical dealership. Sales: Pros, will work with the price with you, not so much on the up-selling aspect, knowledgeable about the cars they sell. Cons; Stories to make you feel like you have to give them more money, example: "I am only making $100 off this deal" funny that's the third time I have heard that here or "This is a small country dealership so we can't do much on price like the Portsmouth dealers" that's funny you're in the 6th largest city in the state, Portsmouth is smaller. In other words dealer games. Service: Pros: Nice waiting area, wifi, can service anything Toyota Cons: Slow, pricey, had to wait for a "certified hybrid technician" for 45 minutes to work on my car and I had an appointment, non communicative (i felt like I was in the abyss for 2.5 hours waiting to find out what was wrong with my car (it had a check engine light which turned out to be nothing but they did 2 hours of warranty work while it was there and didn't tell me). All in all it's an OK dealership you just have to put up with the crap which is why we all hate dealerships. read more

Purchased my car at the end of the summer of 2018. I asked for a service report and they said they would get it to me but to look at the car fax report. I told them it was extensive but wanted the service report. I never got it so that's on me for now following through. Since purchasing, I've had to replace the front differential, all spark plugs, coils, etc., and rust spots that were treated poorly. Apparently, the oil for the front differential was never changed in the entire life of the vehicle (it's a 2012), and the spark plugs were never replaced. I was driving with my kids in the car when my car started misfiring and stalling. I wasn't sure if I would make it to my destination. Good thing my mechanic was around the corner and was able to take my truck in right away. It's also a good thing I took out a warranty for the "just in case" moments, especially the expensive ones. Rochester Toyota was dishonest and knew it. I thought I got a good deal on my vehicle but after all these issues, I got screwed and they made out. read more

Tried calling to test drive a Prius Prime and was told they need a $500-$1000 deposit to deliver one from Massachusetts, that "they're not sold in NH." 5 seconds of online research shows this is not true, they're for sale in all 50 states. I was told "you will never be able to purchase one from a NH dealership", and if I wanted a test drive I'd need to go to Mass. Called another NH dealership, who said that's simply not true and they have 5 available. What is going on at this dealership? Tried calling back to ask if there was a misunderstanding, and got hung up on twice by a woman named Beth. Hey, it's a car dealer. We all know what to expect from car dealers. They don't build those big buildings and pay all those people by losing money. Having said that this dealer seems fair and the service department seems competent. Using a dealer means there will be some experienced mechanics overseeing many young mechanics in training. That's just the way it is. So far my experience here seems to indicate that supervision is adequate here. The service writers seem pleasant and competent and the waiting area is comfortable. I will certainly update this endorsement as needed if I encounter a problem there but for now I can recommend this dealership. read more

I miss my Nissan dealership. Nickel and dime here. Leased a Rav4 and four month and 2000 miles later it was inspection time. $40.00 for an inspection WTH and not even a wash. I have had Nissans since 2004 and never paid for inspections from my local dealership and got a wash. 5000 scheduled service under maintenance plan oil and tire rotation and once again no wash. I watched the wash guy from the waiting room stand there with two bays open do nothing . You would think they would take pride in what they sell but apparently not. The do the minimum apparently required by Toyota to maintain the dealership. Very disappointed. When lease is over it is back to my Nissan dealer. The company advertised on their website a Toyota Rav4 Limited at a price of 26,374 (see attached screen shot of their website). I called to confirm the price with the sales staff 10AM 8/2/2014. I was informed verbally that the vehiche was availabe and the price as advertised was correct. I gave the sales staff my CC# for a deposit of $100 to be withdrawn and I would arrive in 2hrs to pay the remainder and take ownership of the vehicle. As soon as I arrived (11:45 8/2/2014) it was a bait and switch. The dealership managers (Jeff and Sean - last names not available to me) informed me that 30-45 minutes before my arrival they realized they had mistakenly priced the vehicle. I informed them that this vehcile had been advertised at that price on their website for more than a week. They informed me that they had only become aware of it on 8/1/2014 and it required 24 hrs for them to remove a listing from the website. As of 3PM on 8/2/2014 it is still advertised at 26,374 on their own website. They had not attempted to contact me prior to my arrival and were not able to honor the price they advertised and I had left a deposit on. They would however sell me the car for $28100 - this was there first offer. They informed that since their staff had not run my CC to deduct the $100 the original offer discussed over the phone was not something they had to honor and indeed they had no intention of honoring it. They eventually after a heated convorsation going on more than hour offered to sell me the same vehicle for 27,900. They agreed that they had mis-advertised the vehicle, they agreed that had again made a mistake when selling me the vehicle over the phone, they also agreed that they had made no effort to contact me prior to my arrival at the dealership. During the course of the discussion the manager Sean said the dealership would be better off giving me a check for 1000 then selling the vehcile for that price. I told him that was an option I would be ok with. Other than that exchange the dealership made not mention of compensating me for my travel time to and from the dealership for this bait and switch vehcile. read more

Went to our shceduled appt. for oil change / State Insp. yesterday greeted by rude Service Advisor debating if we need oil change. After some time passed, she comes out saying car passes Insp. but will be failed for rear brake dragging which will be $99 to service. I asked if pads are equal in wear, she answered yes. Refused, paid bill and went to another location. Showed them their invoice, car was put on lift, all brakes passed by tech and "Service Advisor" saying nothing is wrong. This was an obvious scam to upsell service not needed, to pass Inspection. Sent them an email requesting return of FAILED INSP. FEE, no answer. Very sleazy business practice probably happening to many at this facility. Gave them a chance, but they have lived up to the rumors that circulate about this business in general. read more

I would give 0 starts if I could. I've never written a review on a place before but after such a horrible experience I feel it is necessary. I bought a car from them in March. Everything seems fine until the next day my heat stopped working. I called them and they said it was sold as is nothing they could do until I demanded that they do something since I had had it less than 24 hours. They got it in and called me pretty quickly saying they couldn't replicate the problem and that they found dryer sheets and acorns in my heating filter. Why that wasn't checked before the vehicle was sold I don't understand. Then maybe 4 months later my entire air conditioner went and needed a whole new system. And now my car needs new brakes in order to pass inspection. I have had this car 8 months and have already put over 2,000 into it not including the fact that I paid 9,100 for the car itself. I will NEVER go back or recommend them to anyone. They do the bare minimum to get their used cars off the lot and once they are done they don't care about the car or the person behind the wheel. I could not be more unhappy with their customer service or their vehicles. Never ever will I do business with them. They screwed me and now I'm stuck in a car I can't get out of. read more

Bought a Rav 4 from these people. I had a great experience with them. Trade in value was what I expected. They will allow you the same price they would pay at the dealers auction. That is the wholesale price, if you get less from other dealers they are trying to steal your car if you get more be careful on the purchase. My trade was $13500 and a honest dealer would give me that which is what Rochester Toyota did. My purchase had some hard to see body issues so I went back with my mechanic and my mechanic picked one a year older for less money in better condition Rochester gave my back $2250 in a check and said they wanted me to be happy with my purchase. How many dealers take care of you after the purchase They did! Also I forget to say that their price on a new Rav4 was $1100 less than Rockingham Toyota. Shop around then go to Rochester Toyota - You will a good price on purchase and a good wholesale price on trade and on a used car if there are any issues they will fix them or find you one with no issues. Completely dissatisfied with the service this dealership offers. I scheduled a routine oil change and tire rotation about a week before my appointment. Called the day of to verify they were running on time and was assured that the service would only take 30-45 mins, as I would've rescheduled if they were backed up. An oil change should never take longer than 45 mins to perform by a qualified mechanic, so this seems reasonable. I get to the dealer 15 mins early and they take my vehicle in within 5 mins of arrival. I see this as a good sign and am thinking everything is going as expected. Then comes the 30, 45 min marks and no update. After an hour the service tech from the desk comes over and asks for a word. He tells me the 3 month engine and cabin filters need to be replaced. I say oh dont worry about it, as I would replace these on my own if really necessary for a fraction of the dealer price. He ensures me only a few more minutes before the vehicle will be ready. After another 15 mins I ask again how much longer it would be and he says he needs to check with the mechanic. He comes back and says they have not filed it with oil yet and it's still in the air but STILL it should only be another 5 mins. So basically they've only done half of the oil change after 1 hour and 20 mins. At this point I feel that I've been lied to about 3 times already and am getting pretty frustrated with how I am being treated. Another 10 mins and my vehicle is done and waiting outside and it takes about another 10 mins to pick up a piece of paper and give them my money. This is not the first time I have had to wait much longer than expected at Rochester Toyota, but it will be my last. If this dealer can turn a 20-30 min oil change into an hour and half ordeal they are really lacking capable mechanics. PLEASE AVOID THE SERVICE DEPT IF YOU VALUE YOUR MONEY AND TIME. read more
