After a long, long drive, decided to order some delivery for dinner. This was our second time ordering from them, as we had them one time was last year and it was fantastic. This year we tried again and it was a huge mess. Ordered directly through the website, which kicks you over to Toast for delivery. The portions were anemic, especially for the price. The hibachi trio, consisting of filet, shrimp, and chicken, could've been a lunch size portion anywhere else. Terrible deal for $29. Filet was ordered medium rare, and came well done on top of it. In addition, there is nothing spectacular about any of the sushi rolls we ordered. Didn't think to take pictures before we started, but did grab pictures of the cucumber salad and the side salads. Side salad was nothing but a couple pinches of lettuce, for $5. Cucumber salad wasn't much better, they just throw in a couple cucumber slices and half a crab stick for $7. Of course, being delivery, the soy sauce and ketchup (for the kids meal) we ordered was missing. And the drinks we paid for were also missing. Called the store and they said they couldn't do anything because it was a Toast issue. Of course getting ahold of Toast was impossible. So I guess we just eat $6 for two drinks. When we initially called about the missing items, the first thing they tell us upon answering is a place answers is they don't have any more sushi. Makes me wish I had called in the order in the first place in order to pick it up myself, because after that would've gone elsewhere. And then it took nearly 10 minutes and speaking to multiple people to convince them I had actually ordered and paid for drinks. Offered to send them the email copy of my receipt, or text the picture of the receipt printed on the bag, both of which confirmed all of the missing items. We've came here multiple times for family vacation before, and every time I have raved about the food! Always so good. This time was a little different. First off, the scenery is amazing! It's in a great location. The decor is super cool and the bathrooms are super nice. We ordered the appetizer sampler and that was the best thing we had. The gyoza's were great! The egg rolls were good. The wontons were delicious!! The jalapeños poppers weren't the best the jalapeños had no flavor. almost like boiled in water. No flavor. We also got edamame and that was good! For our entrees, husband got the VIP roll deep fried (which we normally love), but this time it was nasty!!! The shrimp was raw. It was like they put raw shrimp and then only cook it when frying the roll. We had to return that to the kitchen & just split my meal...... Bad idea!! After we got his issue resolved, I tried my entree, the spicy ramen & it was even worse lol. I did not have the heart to return that one too so I just added half a bottle of soy sauce and tried to push through. We ended up getting it boxed up and will throw it away later. Our server was super nice and accommodating throughout the whole experience! He apologized and asked what he could do to make it better. It wasn't his fault! I am glad I didn't listen to all of the reviews or just cast this place aside due to the star count as it was excellent! My only reason for a loss of a star was the price point was higher than I would like but I understand it (just because I understand doesn't mean I have to like it). DEFINITELY WILL COME BACK! Ok, now that you've got past the quick shot, let's get into it. We ordered the appetizer sampler and it was the perfect preview of what was to come. My wife said it was the best wontons she has ever had (that's pretty impressive) and I will agree that they were very tasty. The Shrimp Tempura in the sauce was a knock out (again, wife said so as I can't eat shrimp). The Jalapeño Popper was a nice idea and definitely had some good flavor. Egg roll was cute and tasty alone but adding one of the two sauces put it in the very tasty category. I ordered the Tommy Lee and it was definitely top notch. The flavor was all through each bite and the filet mignon was a fun change to the standard move of a sushi roll. I knocked the meat off so the wife could try it (she doesn't do red meat) and she really liked the. The manager who was making rolls as well told us a fun addition is to throw shrimp tempura inside to make it surf and turf but adds a great depth. I wish I could try it like that and it makes sense that it would make it epic. That brings me to a point that I should add before continuing on the rolls. If you wanted to add to a roll, you can. If you need to customize a roll (say, take something out) they will absolutely do it. Wife ordered the thriller roll. The words "amazing" and "flavor bomb" were used several times. I saw someone say it was just "xxx and xxx and xxx" about the insides of the roll. I wanted to ask, do you rip apart a California roll and say it is just "crab, avocado, and cucumber"? I get their frustration at the price point but come on. Closed the "show" with the fried cheesecake. It was awesome on the first 3 bites but then I found the frozen center. It made me a little sad, but it is still cheesecake so there was nothing really to be upset about. The staff was great in my opinion. Or server was attentive and we talked with the guys making the rolls (we sat at the sushi bar) the entire time. They were fun to talk to and didn't seem like they hated their lives. They were enjoying making the rolls and conversation. The environment is fun and classic rock is played over the speakers with accompanying music videos on the TV. It has a really fun vibe. Final point now that you've been here this long: The manager explained that the door dash contracts are put at a lower priority than the customers in-house. To some of you, that is annoying (especially if you're doing door dash) and to me, it makes sense as you've got the in-house crowd that they are taking care of while in the restaurant. AWFUL. Good chain in other locations, but DO NOT GO here. Call out to owners or management!! It's time to get a handle on this. The wait staff is so rude. The waitress said she had four types of wine. I simply asked the makers. She had no idea and told me that she enjoys nice wine as well, very rudely, and I should expect poor wine in a sushi restaurant. Personally, I like all the ones this facility has, but wanted to know the maker too choose. We tried to order to go three times prior to this encounter. Their online system did not work. We called and were hung up on more than once, on different nights. Called back and the signal was busy. Again, this happened on multiple occasions. Finally, we went into the store at 9 PM when they close at 10. All the chairs are up and there were piles already swept of trash. There were still guests in the restaurant! I do not recommend this restaurant. About 3 miles down the road there's another place called Osaka, where we had great experiences. There's another place about a mile from Panama City Beach which is out of this world. Again, Publix has better sushi and service. read more
