The staff is chill too, they have a great attitude. Very friendly. Sometimes your not in the mood to choke down a stinky piece of fish, just because it's authentic or exotic or something. Sometimes you want something satisfying, comforting, that tastes awesome. This is the place. The music is really cool too. The rock n' roll vibe is killer. As a former restaurant owner who is retired from the industry I can say that in this Tallahassee market, we were looking for a quick serve sushi experience, and unfortunately, it was anything quick and it was probably the less tight rolled sushi we've ever had. With that said we came in. We ordered some sushi a couple other dishes, such as edamame, miso soup, and Ramen for my children and we got our food after a two hour wait. The biggest issue we have is that there is a mentality that we have seen in many of the Tallahassee restaurants that the staff is not set up in a team format nor do they believe in the team format so to say the items that we ordered very much a server could have filled up a miso bowl or heated some edamame or just took the package of Ramen out and drop some stock on it. When you are running both DoorDash/ Uber eats and retail sit down quick serve and you have one Cook the mentality of that's not my responsibility cannot and will not and should not exist. Point blank. The service was so poor. I took the other companions in my party over to the next-door beignets and brews restaurant to eat something so they can make it through the next leg of dinner. The only good thing about the restaurant was the ambience that was catchy, trendy historic and just overall a really good West Coast vibe in the south. Once again, I feel that this was a huge miss, but it's been plaguing the Tallahassee restaurant and the status quo of what's acceptable for functional retail eating along with execution of plated food seems to be less than in most cases. The unfortunate circumstance is that the mentality of it's not my responsibility or I'm not that's not my job is evident and truthfully in almost every industry, healthcare and education in Tallahassee along with our country. There are 10 Commandments that would be highly advisable not from a biblical sense, but from a leadership in life and success that people should adopt and live forth using. I can say on this evening rock 'n' roll sushi did not take care of the neighbor. I expect if I come back there for there to be a team mentality and an all hands-on deck, universal soldier approach to solving problems and making sure that all glasses are full. Everybody's got something in front of them, and that the anchor of the ship isn't standing their single-handedly, trying to serve 2 to 3 different revenue lines while sacrificing the customers who drag their butt into the retail location to sit at your tables and enjoy a good meal. We've been here quite a few times as this is one of my son's favorite spots. Despite his love for the food here, I have found it to be quite inconsistent in both food quality and service. Last night, for example, we waited by the door for several minutes to be seated. There was a ton of staff on, yet everyone is chatting it up behind the counter as we wait. We're finally greeted and offered a table. The server that sat us was the one to wait on us. He came back and took our drink order, which was fine. Then, another employee (I can't tell what they did as they kinda floated all over the restaurant chatting up tables and bussing some) came and asked if we'd been helped. I showed him our drinks and said that we had. He then said he'd go figure out what was taking our food so long. When I then told him we hadn't ordered yet, he asked for our order. He tried to memorize it, but I guess after all of his excited comments about what great choices we had made, he ran off to put our order in...only to come back 5 minutes later as he'd forgotten it. He later came back by and again praised us for the excellent choices we'd made and that it was obvious we knew our menu. Weird. Food. That took forever. About an hour. They had 3 people in the kitchen, three at the sushi assembly area, and 3 n the floor. It was almost one employee per table, yet they were producing one roll every 5 minutes. It was so infuriating to see the inefficiency in that restaurant. I commented to my son that everyone is moving so quickly, yet nothing is really getting done. For instance, our server (the original one) was flying through the dining area doing one-offs for tables, yet never stopping to see that everything at the table was handled (drink refills, etc.). The food finally came in 3 waves. We had ordered 4 rolls and we got them across a 15 minute period of time. We'd both ordered these before many times, which leaves me to my last point...inconsistency. They never taste the same. I gave this 3 stars as my son really enjoys it, but even the local grocery stores have better speed and consistency with their sushi than this place. read more

Great sushi if a bit on the pricey side, while not real traditional Japanese sushi, the sushi they do have is great, i highly recommend the ones with crawfish. Also the atmosphere is pretty great too with rock music videos on every TV, rock and roll sushi, duh, I know, but i still enjoy hearing Metallica while I eat sushi. First time visiting here and we must give a shout out to Phil and his group for an outstanding experience! Happy hour specials are terrific and we started out with some fried wontons that were filled with creamy yumminess and had a little kick. My husband usual sticks with the basic rolls, but after looking at the menu offerings I told him he had to try something different. He had the Velcro Pygmies roll and I got the highly popular Punk Rock roll (pictured here). How creative and intriguing to put strawberry on top of a sushi roll?? Who knew?!! But it all worked incredibly well. The place is a hit, clean, fun atmosphere with classic 80's rock & roll videos pumping up the vibe. We will most definitely be back. read more

I love sushi! I always see my friends post pictures of amazing sushi rolls from this restaurant. I've never seen nor had sushi like this before. I highly recommend rock 'n' roll sushi because their sushi rolls are different and always full of flavor! I ordered the tour bus roll and the crowd surfer roll. The tour bus roll was baked and it was a Surf n' turf type of sushi. It had spicy tuna, krab stick, cream cheese inside, topped with seared filet mignon, jalapeño, spicy mayo, sweet chili, eel sauce, sriracha, and crunchy flakes! It was absolutely amazing and one of the best rolls I've ever had! Next I had the crowd surfer roll. The crowd surfer roll had shrimp tempura and spicy tuna inside, red tuna and jalapeño outside, topped with spicy mayo, sweet chili, eel sauce and crunchy flakes. This roll was also full of flavor but I'm not a big fan of the ground up spicy tuna. When you come here try to stay away from their classic rolls because you can find that at any regular sushi spot. The esthetics of the restaurant is wonderful, the main reason I wanted to visit! I love the theme with their record like menu. The ambiance is great with clean environment! Keeping an open mind, it's interesting that they serve Asian food- sushi. The ingredients of sushi is straightforward. I was able to customize what I'd like into my rolls. However, it saddens me to say that the quality of the sushi is disappointing. My rolls were very loose (iykyk). They were easy to fall apart, was difficult to eat. This establishment also offers other options like hibachi. Upon my friend's review, she has had better. Perhaps, the owner could invest in the crafts of sushi making? I went.to.the new location on Magnolia. I was pretty excited to try this place. The other location got such mixed reviews, I wasn't sure what to think. I ordered the jalapeño poppers appetizer and the VIP Roll. I typically order more traditional rolls, but most of the rolls were the Americanized type that are fried, mixing seafood and beef, adding cream cheese. Also, when I asked about subbing spicy tuna with spicy salmon, they said I could but it was a $3.95 up charge! The poppers were good. They were like crab Rangoon in a fresh pepper that was fried. I found the krab/crawfish topping on the roll to be too salty. The roll itself was fine. Finally I ordered a ginger salad which was basically lettuce with black sesame seeds sprinkled on top. If you like sushi, but not authentic sushi, you will like this spot. I would come back for the poppers and the apps. The staff was really nice and helpful. read more

We have eaten at Rock N Roll Sushi about five times now. Every time we have had a good experience. The rock music and videos are tasteful and entertaining, and the food has been delicious. The service was fine. I got The Legend Roll, my wife the Volcano, and I don't remember what our two guests ordered (there were four of us). We got a few appetizers we shared for the table that were also excellent. The food is good. I got an Oyster City Helles Tate Beer, and my wife got a glass of wine. That is where this goes sideways, and why we won't be going back. They served my wife the smallest glass of wine we have ever had out at a restaurant. The tiny glass cost $10.00 and was basically two swallows of wine. When our waitress came over, she asked my wife if she wanted another. My wife commented about the tiny glass of wine and was told that the system now dispenses that much, and that she couldn't change the pour. I am okay paying $152.25 for a good dinner, but I am not okay with getting taken advantage of out at a restaurant. I have a bartender's license from back in the day, so I am not a novice here. The typical wine pour is 5 ounces (some are 6), and this was more like 3 ounces...maybe less. If you are going for the food and aren't planning on getting a glass of wine, this place is great. However, we will probably stick with another of our favorite restaurants that treats us better. read more

Tried this place on a Sunday night and they were very slow at the time with hardly any customers. The service we got from our waitress was fantastic she constantly kept checking on us and making sure we were satisfied with our meal. I started with a Tokyo Mule to drink which was very good. I had the appetizer sampler which is a great way to start your meal cause it has a variety of different things to eat like shrimp, poppers, and egg rolls. I decided to step out of my comfort zone and try a fried roll that had shrimp, crab, and crawfish called the VIP Roll. It was okay but not a roll I would try again, too many ingredients for me. My friend had the Chicken and Shrimp hibachi which I sampled, it was good but a little too salty. Overall I would definitely return to try a different roll. I am very biased when it comes to seafood because I didn't grow up eating seafood and I'm not familiarized enough to truly understand seafood. My friend was telling me about the sushi place across town that he wanted me to try and I'm always down to try new restaurants and new food but I always have a guard up when it comes to seafood and let me just tell you if you're trying this restaurant for the first time let your guard down. I can't explain to you guys in words my experience here the food was absolutely amazing! My friend ended up picking out some stuff that he wanted me to try and like I said before I'm always down to try new foods and I'm so glad that I did because oh my gosh. I remember I got hibachi also shrimp and sushi and I can't tell you how much I want this food again. I was totally mind blown by the shrimp because I expected it to look like regular shrimp and it didn't the sauce that came with the shrimp and sushi was amazing it blew my mind and I'm not sure if there is a better sushi place out there like this or at least in Tallahassee. Went at about 730 pm on a Thursday and it was busy, but we were able to get seated right away. Our server was attentive and came over immediately to get our drink order. I also placed an order for the crispy wontons based on previous yelp recommendations. We also placed orders for Axl roll, Jailhouse roll and Japanese bagel roll. The crispy wontons were really quick and I am so sorry I didn't take a picture because we dove right in. 5 came in the order and I was nice enough to let my husband have 3, but looking back I should have put up a bigger fight. They were that good. I actually could go back and order a beer and an order of crispy wontons and I would be a happy person. The Axl roll was delicious. I didn't try the jailhouse roll because I livedthe Axl roll so much but my husband said it was delicious. The Japanese bagel was great, but as a personal preference I wish there was a better cream cheese to salmon ratio. It was mostly salmon. Again, it was great, just my preference. I would gladly go back and excited to try more things on the vast menu. The service was excellent, atmosphere was super cool and everything was prepared fresh but fast. I've lived in Tallahassee for 4 years and I have not yet found a sushi restaurant that I really love. The sushi was pretty good (a little bit more expensive than I would normally be comfortable paying for sushi). However, the service was mediocre at best. It was strange: when we first sat down, it felt as though we were being rushed to order.... but when we asked for an extra two minutes to look over the menu, it was as though they forgot about us. It took almost 15 minutes to order... and in total, it took 40 minutes before we got our food. Like I said, the sushi was pretty good, so I would be open to trying it out again. The menu included the theme names and everything. The music was even themed. We got the appetizer sampler and it was so delicious. It was the perfect amount for four people. The first time we visited and sat down, we waited 15 minutes before a server came up to our table. The second time around, We were served our hibachi dinners and were told there was no silverware because they ran out. Our food got cold by the time they brought us some. The fried food is super heavy. The sushi takes forever. Then they make you wait even longer to bring soy sauce (not sure why it's not brought out automatically).
