This spot is my go to when I'm catching sports with friends and having drinks. The hours are off on Yelp, it's 7pm on a Saturday on they're open, as I just ordered. I always get some sort of meaty variation of fries, as I did today because they're so good. I'm looking forward to trying their cheesesteak because I'm a huge fan of those. This food truck can easily be found across from Little Woodrow's on Brazos and Hadley on the weekends. I have Tried the cheese steak, the Napoli burger, and the cheese fries. They're all decent if you're out drinking and you get hungry but they're nothing that I'd be craving randomly. They taste good because you're drunk and you want to munch. Kind of like that $15 pizza you can buy from the pizza guy you see driving around in midtown - meh. If I'm hungry and I'm close to here then yeah, sure; it's an option. You can almost always find this truck parked outside of Little Woodrow's in Midtown, and they do a great job adding some Italian flare to classic late-night street fare. The Napoli Burger is my consistent go-to here, featuring a greasy patty topped with mozzarella, spinach, grilled onions, and a "secret sauce" along the lines of pesto, all on a toasted bun. This place doesn't need beer goggles to make their late night food delicious. I had the sausage sandwich (onions no peppers) and the RNS fries with ribeye. Literally every part of this meal was phenomenal. The sausage was delightfully tasty and greasy, the cheese was wonderfully melty, the sauteed onions adding a perfect flavor boost. But the highlight was the bread roll. Omg you guys THIS BREAD. I can't stop thinking about it. Pillow soft and slightly chewy and a little sweet. It absorbed the grease and weight of the fillings like a champ with no sign of any falling apart. Amaaaazing. The fries were also phenomenal. The steak was cooked perfectly, and the fries were slathered in the Rock and Roll sauces. Perfect mix of spice and flavor. I passed on adding an egg on top but might have to next time. The fries are on the skinny small and soft side, while I normally prefer my fries thick and crispy, but I have to admit this type of fry is better when you're loading it with toppings. Plus it's way easier to eat with a fork... The only downside was the length of the wait. With 2 guys working, it took 10 minutes to get through a line of 4 people, and then it took 20 minutes to make the food. Little longer than most food trucks in that respect, but given the quality and freshness of the result, I think it's worth it. read more

Delicious gooey goodness. When I started trying this place, their sandwiches were made of flatbread, which quickly got soaked by the juices of the fillings and made eating with a plate necessary. Now that they use conventional bread loaves, this is no longer a problem. Actually it's the bread they use now that makes the sandwich taste so damn good. Prices may seem high from $6-9 for a sandwich but the portions and taste are worth it. They also have a unique olive/pepper sauce that they hand out with their fries. I went by their location for south by southwest in Austin after getting an ad from a bartender. I was extremely impressed with this truck (short bus). I had some loaded rib eye French fries that were crispy and loaded down with gooey cheese and jalapeno sauce that seemed to somehow be just the right kind of spicy, not too overwhelming. I'm an austinite so I knew most of the food trucks surrounding it and am fond of them, but I'm happy I gave this new kid on the block a try I'll definitely be going back. read more

Not the most visually-appealing food truck, but their sandwiches were rockin'. They mostly have sandwiches with some interesting ingredients i.e. butter chicken, ribeye as well as fries. I went with the Italian sausage sandwich. The sandwich took a while to come out, more than I expected, but it was worth the wait! Instead of an Italian sausage, the sandwich consisted of sliced Italian sausage with cheese and their special sauce on a buttered bun. Great fusion of flavors and everything was cooked just right. Copped a sandwich from this food truck after a couple of beers at Little Woodrow's this afternoon. The dude working the counter was something in between indifferent and rude, but I'll give him a pass since he was the only person fielding orders from all the patrons. I'm no businessman, but it feels like a questionable strategy to have one employee taking orders, cooking, and handing out food outside a busy bar at lunch time on a football Sunday (although the wait time wasn't too terrible). Anyhow, I had the Butter Chicken sandwich, which came with juicy chunks of chicken, caramelized onions, and a savory garlic sauce, plus melted cheese. It was clearly fresh, but the taste wasn't anything special. The chicken wasn't especially well-seasoned and they were overly stingy with all the best parts, i.e., the onions, cheese, and sauce. My friends actually went back to ask for some extra sauce, which they were happy to provide. The toasted buttered bread was tasty though, I must say. You can do worse than a hot gooey sandwich with your beer, but don't expect anything mind-blowing. read more

I'm a big fan of two things: 1) Food trucks and 2) all things UT Longhorns. What makes me like Rock 'n' Sandwiches so much? It's a new, delicious food truck in Houston that was opened by a fellow Longhorn! I'd seen this snazzy little black truck a few times while making my way to Little Woodrows in Midtown. People were always crowded around the truck but I never got up to see what the hussel and bussel was all about for myself! This past Sunday, I made my way over to get a taste of what everyone was talking about. RnS has a unique little menu and everything on it sounded delicious. Since I was having dinner with my mom later that evening, I decided to get the wings. Little did I know, these flappers were pretty meaty! Very juicy and delicious. My friends ordered a Paradise City and Napoli Burger. The burger was pretty delicious but the bite I had of Paradise City had me hooked! And by "bite," I meant half of the sandwich. Yummy Italian sausage on flat bread? Mmmm. The table next to us ordered a couple of Stairway to Heavens and they were very pleased. Paradise City: Grilled Italian sausage, roasted red peppers, sauteed onions, shredded Parmesan Stairway to Heaven: Pan-fried chicken Parmesan, tomato sauce, dressed spinach and arugula, shredded Parmesan Besides Turtle Racing Thursdays, Little Woodrows has found another reason for me to keep coming back thanks to Rock 'n' Sandwiches. Holy shit this place is delicious. Granted, I was a few beers in but goodness gracious did I inhale that sandwich. Run on sentence alert: You know when you eat something so fast that by the end of it you start to wonder who stole the rest of your sandwich and what you would do the dirty thief if you caught them just to find out that it was actually you who ate the whole thing and subsequently become terribly depressed. Surely I am not the only one who has felt this way right? Needless to say, the sandwiches are good. I'm not sure exactly which one I got as they had been changing up their menu a bit at the time but I think it was a garlic butter chicken cheesesteak or something like that. I'm giving this 3 stars simply because everything just seemed a little too greasy and gooey. The guys were SUPER friendly and I will probably come back to try a different sandwich, but I need to let my arteries recover first. I did notice that a lot of the reviews mentioned late nights, and I would probably give this 4 or 5 stars if I had had a few beers in me. But, alas, I was on my lunch break and so was alcohol-free at the time. I had the grilled veggie sandwich which honestly had some delicious flavor. The thing was HUGE and like the other reviewers say, gooey and super messy. I actually closed the door to my office to eat the thing because I couldn't fathom someone watching me eat it. I cut it in half and sadly threw the other half away. There was no way it was going to survive as leftovers. It was good, but I honestly felt a little dirty after eating. Also had a side of fries which IMO were not that great. They were not very crispy when I got them, and then when they packed them up in a bag to go, they covered them with plastic wrap which pretty much killed the crispy life out of them. When I got back to my office a block or so away they were really limp. On the plus side, whatever the side sauce is that they gave (for sandwich? for fries?) was AWESOME. So I will eat here again when I'm wanting something over-the-board unhealthy. Suggestions to the fine men at Rock 'n would be to brown bag to-go fries in the future (instead of plastic wrap) and offer a 1/2 portion sandwich. read more

I found this food truck by way of Yelp and wanting to try something new in the general area that I tend to frequent. I ordered the RNS fries with chicken. The chicken was freshly cut, the mozzarella cheese was melted to perfection, and the sauce they used on the fries made a difference in the taste. However, Because of something that occurred separately from the food, I will not support this business any longer. A deaf homeless man had approached some people and I initially did not see him. It was when I overheard someone say he is deaf and I noticed he signed to the person who gave him money. I am a beginner in ASL and I asked him if he was hungry. He said "yes", so I told him to get anything he wanted. He ordered cheese fries. The two guys on the truck stated, verbatim: "are you getting that guy some food? We have a theory that he isn't deaf. We've seen him talking before." I said, "nah he signs. I'm preeetty sure he's deaf or hard of hearing." That truly broke my heart. I stood there and I signed to him as best as I knew how with what I can remember from school & he was very understanding and worked with what I knew. He signed FLUIDLY, so I knew for a fact he was of the deaf community. To think that a business who makes probably more than double their goal next to a popular establishment full of drunk people who need recovery food ASSUMED a man who couldn't speak or hear was faking it disgusted me to the fullest. I'm not saying they had to feed him or have to feed the homeless period, but I simply cannot imagine how it would feel to know that people DOUBT your disability and status...and not be able to hear it to fend for yourself. That's what Daniel Ierullo's sandwich specialties deliver in an incredible edible manner. Garlic Butter Chicken Sandwich: After ordering from the friendly folks in the window, we anticipated the arrival of our comestible to be. Holy mother did we get one! The bread was certainly had a fresh quality and we suspect it was pizza dough but in sandwich bun form, complete with the cornmeal grain on the outside. It was nicely slathered in garlic butter which was definitely the real deal considering the visible slices of garlic cloves. Whole ingredients are always a good sign of quality. The sandwich filling consisted of chicken, caramelized onions, bell peppers, mushrooms, mozzarella, and if there was anything else on that sandwich is was delicious and gourmet grade. Biting in, we found it to be the melty delicious, crusty, chewy, heaven that we all love about pizza and none of the boring aspects of your typical tessellated fair. Though I stumbled upon this place on a whim after a fun night out in Midtown, trust me when I say I was sober enough to differentiate between "holy f, this is good" food and "wow this is soooo gooooooood, I'm drunk " food. Trust me more when I tell you that a sandwich here will be the highlight of your night/weekend. Pros: 1. Literally right around the corner from the best bars in Midtown 2. Short line at 1:30am on a Saturday night... (Sunday morning?) 3. Has a trash can on the side of the truck so you can actually throw away your trash instead of dumping it on the ground 4. Bread 5. Cheese 6. Steak 7. Bread 8. Bread 9. Bread 10. Did I mention that doughy, crispy yet soft, warm bread that encompasses that cheesy goodness that oozes into your mouth with every bite? Cons: Is this a one man show? Although the line was short for being so close to closing time, the wait to order was, nevertheless, still an anxious wait. It wasn't too bad, probably like 10 minutes tops. But then again, time is a funny thing.
