This was my first tattoo and it couldn't have been a more pleasant experience. The place has a very relaxing ambiance and everyone there was really friendly. I wasn't sure of exactly what design I wanted and Andre talked me through a couple of ideas before we settled on the final design. He's a very warm and talented guy and immediately put me at ease. So my wife and I went to Waikiki for our Honeymoon.... I set up appointments for both of us to get turtles inked there to commemorate our honeymoon. Spoke with Andre on the phone... He is very businesslike... runs a very tight shop. (IE: only does work after an initial consultation, etc etc). Andre worked up a nice tattoo for both of us...Love the design except 2 small things.... FIRST: Both Her arm and My leg are now scarred for life! Andre approached this tattoo like he was drilling for oil! He went so deep that anywhere there was shading, it is scar tissue now. It has been over 2 weeks since the tattoos and both my wife and I are still healing from it.... HUGE SCABS! Both her and I have extensive tattoo work so we know what we are talking about.... Andre WRECKED my leg and my wife's arm. It will be at least 6 months before we can get them touched up per se because of the scarring.... SECOND: Andre's aftercare instructions clearly say to not wash the tattoo or put anything on it for 2 DAYS! Thats CRAZY! Probably the best way to get an infection is to leave an open wound unclean.... I have 1000's of dollars in tattoo work on me and I have never heard of that before. MY OPINION ONLY..... Find someone else. the design was nice but we could have gotten a better result from a garage scratcher using a homemade tattoo machine. read more

Found out about RST and andre through forumshawaii, saw some work which i thought was nice. called RST and set up an appointment. 2 weeks later, went down for a consultation, i told andre i wanted a full sleeve and he told me he would draw up something unique and off the charts for me. 2 weeks later, i went in for my first session and all he had drawn up was a very basic outline with no details at all. didnt think much of it as he told me he would fill in details and make it flow as he worked on me. The shop was really clean, quiet, and very private. Robin, his wife, was pretty professional and friendly when booking the appointments. Andre himself was a pretty nice guy. However, I was not happy with my sleeve. Andre stenciled on the basic outline and started tattooing away. All in all, i spent about $2000 on my sleeve that started below my knee cap and ended about 3 inches above my ankle. $2000 is on the pricier side of a sleeve but i believe his work was not worth spending that much. His clouds and flames had basically faded away after only two years. I could see alot of spots that he shaded off the lines. My character had cartoonish looking feet that looked like a 5 year old drew. Some of the lines were crooked. Basically, i wasnt so happy with how it came out especially after i spent around 2k on a sleeve that didnt even cover my entire leg. I also specifically told him before he started that i wanted a full sleeve. What i got was 3/4 of a sleeve. After 2 years or so, alot of his shading and background had nearly vanished. His style of shading and coloring is very light. My friend who also got a sleeve by him isnt so impressed as well. His sleeve has also faded significantly and looks really old. I have since gotten my sleeve by andre fixed by another tattoo artist. All in all, andre and rst are nice people, place is professional, but his artwork is decent. He overcharges on his tattoos. He can do some styles better than others. I would not go back to him. read more

By far the worst customer service experience I've ever had. When I called in to make an appointment, I mentioned I had a gift card that's about to expire soon & would like to take advantage of it, Robin (I think that's her name) scheduled me to come in a certain day, called & told her I was coming in late because I was still in traffic, for my appointment & she said I loose out on my spot & accused me of lying. So I then mentioned if its possible to re-schedule. She mentioned that there was no way I could because there's no opening prior to my card expiration. I've had bad service before but by far THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE experience at ROCK SOLID TATTOO!! I don't trust the business & she was just rude. How does one run a company like that? I have two pieces created by Andre. The first I won in a contest that they held on FB. The second is a large back piece cover up. Andre is all about helping people. I really appreciate Andre and Robin for helping me to get thus done. They are about doing good by others and the positive energy this creates. Rock Solid tattoo is not like most shops as it isn't all about the money. The contest and gift card deals are ways for them to help people who otherwise would not be able to get the tattoo they want. I recommend Rock Solid tattoo to anyone who wants to get a tattoo that is customized and has meaning. Got my first tattoo here a couple of years ago didnt really shop around I found out about this shop from a friend and seen the page on Facebook and thought it was good place to go get a polynesian sleeve but I was not satisfied I dont know if other shops did this but andre made me pay for my tattoo before we got started I guess that made a done deal and could just do quick session in like 2 hours dont be fooled by the time of work because he charges by the size and not by the hour which you may be paying more without no design so I found myself going back session after session spending up to a thousand dollars for a half sleeve which I dont think the quality of work is worth it hes heavy handed and he makes his own guns so the needle damages your skin which may take long to heal thats why he gives you the healing instructions which is not normal for any other shop theyre were some crooked lines on my tattoo that I told him about and he was trying to tell me that i was shaking which is not true I wanted to make this review because I want people to know the truth that good passionate tattoo artists deserves good money this is just for his polynesian tattoos which I think is not his specialty hes better in asian tattoos read more

I went to Rock Solid Tattoo while I was in Hawaii celebrating my 21st birthday a couple weeks ago and when I was walking around the International Market Place I found this tattoo shop and went inside and was greeted by Robin. She is really nice and helpful and makes you feel extremely comfortable. She gave me alot of information for my first tattoo and things not to do and to do before the tattoo. When the day of the tattoo came and I went in to get it Andre came and talked to me about what I wanted and he drew up a scretch and it was perfect exactly what I wanted. When we went into the tattoo room he only does one person at a time so it is nice and quiet and relaxing. If it is your first tattoo I would defiantly recommend Andre he makes you comfortable and will talk to you to help and keep you relaxed. He did an amazing job and takes alot of pride in his tattoo, even though mine was just a tribal sea turle on my calf he makes you feel like it is just as big of a job as a whole back piece and puts that same amount of pride and focus into every tattoo. I went there thinking I would be able to get a tattoo I wanted. I went in with the picture (and I have 9 tattoos so I understand the difference between a tattoo on skin and a picture on paper.) I was 100% fine with having it adjusted to what would work for a tattoo artist, but Andre still said no. I guess he doesn't know how to tattoo word and he doesn't, and he only tattoos things hes into. I guess he's been tattooing for 20 years but doesn't do words? I don't trust an artist that cant even tattoo words. I like an artist who can challenge themselves no matter what the style. Yes every artist has a preference on what style they like to do but they still are usually willing to help you with the piece you want. I have never been turned down for a tattoo before especially when I wasn't even being picky. I have brought much more complicated things to my artist back home and he has put together an image way better than I could imagine. I say skip this place. There's only one artist, and he makes his own tattoo gun, and he is picky about what he does. The tattoo I wanted was simple and meant a lot to me. i was pretty disappointed. read more

A couple years ago, I wanted to give my boyfriend a tattoo as a birthday present. He decided to get a half sleeve tattoo of a koi at Rock Solid Tattoo located in the Samsung Plaza. I paid the quoted price of $600.00 up front for a complete tattoo which included lining, shading, and coloring. Andre was able to the lining and the shading in different sessions. Because of medical reasons, my boyfriend could not continue the coloring. After about eight months, my boyfriend went back to complete the coloring and he charged him an added $200.00 because he didn't see him earlier. Once the tattoo was complete, it still looks unfinished and he claims it was done. People commented on his tattoo like a child was painting a coloring book or commented the coloring was really bad. Although he may make good tattoos, what I've seen isn't what I expected. Because the tattoo is ridiculously dreadful, he's looking for someone to do a cover-up. read more

GARBAGE!!!! Not too sure how the rave reviews of this shop are so prevalent on this site. I guess I got Andre on a bad day or something. My fury with his shop and work knows no bounds. Lets set the record straight, I am 40 years old with numerous tattoos so I am not new to getting a Tat and no child with limited knowledge of the world. My mistake was to get ink on the fly while on vacation, I definitely accept that as my fault in this matter. I made an appointment and to my delight was squeezed in. Well I arrive and Andre is running late with another customer, which I was totally ok with. He starts on my poly tribal piece and 2 1/2 short hours later I am done. Well not sure if Andre was just tired or ready to get home, or he was just ok with take a tourists $$$ because he figured I wouldn't be back to complain, or just not good at his craft. Where do I begin, the line work is shaky and not consistent. The distances between sections are not the same and obviously not the same distances through out. The shading what shading there is a complete mess, and he is so heavy handed in some areas and soft in others that there is zero consistency . Needless to say I would NEVER recommend this shop to anyone. I went to a real artist in Miami where I live and the 1st words out of his mouth were "WOW who did that to you!" I told the new artist my story who by the way is a local from Waikiki and he said "Man people in Waikiki all think they can do Poly work and that this work was a disgrace". Luckily he is confident he can correct the line work and straighten out this horrible job by an ify artist if I can even call him that. Andre you should be glad I am a 12 hr. plane ride away or I'd be on my way to a local attorney for breach of contract.
