I've lived in Germany for over 14 years and my Mother was German. The food at Fest equals some of that same German food I had growing up and while serving in the military overseas. The schnitzel sandwich is so flavorful. The potato salad is so authentic tasting. And you have got to try the giant Bavarian pretzel with beer cheese and mustard. Great selection of German beers. The service is outstanding, and the staff is super friendly! And the restaurant reminds me of the old Oktoberfest days in Munich with its long tables. I also like the live music on the patio in the warmer months. I have been there about 8 times over the past year, and it is always good service with the same level of food each time. I was looking for someplace new to have a drink and I decided to stop in today. I was able to try a few samples, which helped me decide on the Paulaner Lager. I ordered a giant pretzel to go with my beer. The pretzel was huge and came with some German mustard which went well with it. The service was good, the workers were friendly, and the beer was nice and cold. My only complaint was the price of the pretzel--at $9, it was almost the same price as a burger. My husband and I went on a Wednesday around lunch after visiting the Richmond Zoo. There were a few customers. After speaking with the staff, I was told they get busy on Wednesday Polish Days and Sunday $5 schnitzel days. The Schnitzel Sandwich was so yummy. Think chick fil a but with pork tenderloin and a more robust potato roll. Their cole slaw was very peppery and not laden with mayo. I'd say it's more of a vinegar base but didn't have the sour flavor of vinegar. We shared the giant pretzel which lived up to its name. The cheese dip was good as was the spicy ketchup with horseradish. One small comment: I think they need a larger bowl for their side salad. There were lots of beer choices, local and international. I would have loved to have been able to sit and try a few more. Especially since the beers were served with a frosty mug. Nothing like a truly cold beer. The decor allows for lots of interaction with others in the German Style. They have very large square tables with benches and long tables with benches. Another comment: some of us old folks need back support which we found on benches up against the wall. Maybe some bar stools with backs?? The staff were very nice. I can't wait to go back! I stumbled upon Fest when we were driving to the Zoo. I made a mental note that we should try it and I'm so glad we did. We met friends for lunch and were greeted upon arrival. We could order at the table or at the counter. The QR codes made it very easy to see the extensive menu. There was so much to choose from. We started with the giant pretzel and cheese sauce. It was really good. It seemed to be a little buttery and garlicky. Very yummy! I got the beer cheese burger and fries for lunch which was also very good! Only thing I would change would be the mixed greens to regular iceberg lettuce. The staff was friendly and they left the to-go box cracked open in the bag to prevent everything getting soggy from the heat of the cooked chicken, which I appreciated. Even with that courtesy the spring mix lettuce in top didn't travel as well as I would hoped. My wife and I are big fans of this place. It's one of the few German themed places in the area. They have Snitzel, all types of wurst, yummy pretzels and lots of beer options. We always start with their beer pretzel with beer cheese and are never disappointed. It's huge and so tasty. Then I go for either the brats or snitzel. The brat is so good and has beer cheese on it that makes it so awesome. For the kiddos you can get chicken tenders and fries which are just as good as anything else. The staff are nice and very helpful. One complaint would be that there's nothing really to do here. No TVs, no sort of activity on the tables. They also do a really nice soft pretzel. It is counter service so don't just sit and expect to be served. There is a variety of indoor and outdoor seating options. Inside can be a little noisy so if you are trying to chat with friends might want to go for the outdoor option. I would go back here next time I'm up that way. read more

By far the worst experience. Ordered the Philly Burger: a beef burger with fries and chicken Caesar salad. 1. Called in order, was given a pick up time. Arrived during the expected time order wasn't ready. They prepared it has we waited. (It wasn't packed in there). 2. Our food was HORRIBLE. My beef burger, tasted like spicy SAUSAGE. My up charged fries were not edible, they were cold and hard. After consuming the sausage burger (3 bites) I was sick to my stomach. Needless to say I've had a rough night. Visit Fest on a sunny spring afternoon when the doors are rolled up, the umbrellas are out, and the flowers are blooming in their hanging boxes. I felt like I was transported to Germany! You can order from one of the long tables using a QR code--those tables feel very European and enable you to chat with other patrons--or you can order at the register and your server will bring the delicious food to you. I had wonderfully prepared schnitzel (so crisp outside, moist inside), tasty German potato salad and a fresh, vinegary cucumber tomato onion salad. I also enjoyed an ice-cold dry Riesling. It was a fantastic meal! As an aside, I had previously tried Fest through one of the meal delivery services and the food was just as delicious! They use eco friendly packaging that keeps the food just as warm as styrofoam. I'm told they have live music on the outside patio from time to time, which sounds like a lot of fun. The food was all delicious and exactly what you'd expect from a quality restaurant of this style. The servers were all teenagers, but they all did a good job being friendly and helpful. I would recommend that some of their staff have options for people looking for recommendations. When I asked a young lady working there for assistance on making a choice her reply was "I don't eat this food".
