Been passing by this joint for years but finally stopped in in 2021! Rather roomy interior with an old-school vibe. I gotta say, the soup and salad bar brought me back bc it's so rare that you see that-- it was spectacular too!! We didn't get anything else that day besides soup/salad bar and the smoked trout (which was interesting) but still very good. Will gladly be returning on trips to Roscoe and Walton in the future and want to try more of the local trout staples! read more

Stayed here because my car broke down. I wouldn't step foot inside this pathetic ancient dilapidated dump again if THEY paid ME. The room looked like the previous occupant/s vandalized it. Broken doors hanging off the hinges. They boast "flat screen tv's" but all I could get was some shopping channels and wrestling. Fopey Ducking loser of a bartender checked me in and served me at the bar and played the part of creepy dark rainy night highway motel guy excellently. This is America? Sad. read more

Great place to stay. Quick one night stop over after driving to Rochester and this was the half way point for the way home. The restaurant was delicious and it's 100 yards from the Roscoe beer company so you can have a beverage unwind and walk back to your room. Would definitely stay again hopefully for a longer visit next time. read more

Sad decline. Place was almost empty on a Sunday night. 50 minutes after ordering, food came out cold and undercooked. This used to be one of the few places I looked forward to eating at when passing through, but no more. My boyfriend and I had dinner outside as it was still closed to indoor dining due to COVID. The scenery was gorgeous and we were on a covered patio so we were very comfortable and not hot at all. We had heard that this restaurant was very good. We made a rest and went. We had seen raves about the salad bar and we found it to be very ordinary. They claim their clam chowder is wonderful and it was absolutely tasteless. We ordered the scallops and they tasted ok, nothing great, and they were just basically tossed on the plate in a sloppy fashion. We will never eat there again. read more

Unexpectedly excellent! I didn't expect to find a restaurant anywhere near this good in a middle of nowhere town like Roscoe. We had the crab legs and flat iron steak, both were very good. The steak was cooked to perfection, exactly what medium-rare should taste like. The crab legs were large, meaty and delicious. Just the right amount of seasoning! We chose a baked potato as the side dish and did not regret that decision. The included salad bar is all-you-cat-eat, together with soup and bread. All in all a great meal for a decent price. Wasn't the best in the world.... For starters, the wait was killer. Waiting upwards of 45 minutes for the waiter to even ask us for drinks was unacceptable, my mother ordered cream and broccoli soup (that was supposed to be hot) was cold to the bone. ONE OF THE BEST PRIME RIB STEAKS I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE! You can get almost the same thing in NYC for about 4x the price. It's even good reheated the next day. Yes you could have leftovers...the king's cut is just that big! I love that the crackers come with this cheese whiz like spread, and they have an old school salad bar! My husband, two friends and I had an excellent meal at the Rockland House yesterday, 1/8/23. We got there when they opened at 4 p.m. (Sunday), and there were only a few other people there. The salad bar was well stocked with a variety of breads, lettuce, beets, carrots, cheese, cucumbers, tomatoes, pepperoncini, sunflower seeds, croutons, and any kind of dressing you would want. Two soups were available: vegetable beef and chicken noodle. I had the vegetable and it was delicious. My entree was the Cowboy Steak, which is a boneless Rib Eye, with just the right amount of marbling. With that I choose a baked potato with butter and sour cream. The steak arrived rare, just the way I like it. Good choice. And I was able to take half of it home to enjoy another meal. My companions had a strip steak, chopped sirloin with mushrooms and salmon. Everyone loved their meal. Dessert for me was a luscious chocolate mousse cake that was so rich I took half of it home. We will definitely be back. read more

The area is universally known for their fishing and the delicious reward a catch brings. Enter - The Rockland House. Maybe they weren't biting today. Maybe you catch and release. It doesn't really matter. The Rockland House trout has you beat. Every year I make a pilgrimage to Rockland for their trout (and to visit family). I can tell you that their fish is exceptional. It is locally farm raised (visit the farm! It's fascinating and they offer smoked trout for a great price.) and that makes all the difference. Trout can easily take on the taste of what they eat. Rockland's trout are obviously fed the good stuff as they are amazing. That fish you landed this morning may be huge, but is he tasty? To top all of that the service is exceptional, the atmosphere is classy, and the bar makes you feel like a local. These guys have figured out the formula for a great Catskills establishment. It is a beautiful atmosphere, pretty big dinning room and decent sized bar in the back. The queen cut prime rib was THE BEST I have ever had. The first two reviews on Yelp had much to do with why I ordered it and believe me, I was far from disappointed. No review could do justice to the steak here and the price is just ubelievable. Had a smoked trout appetizer, it was huge! Lightly smoked not bad. Then got a bowl of steaming hot homemade vegetable pasta beef soup that was outstanding. It was just the perfect blend of flavors. Salad bar also came with entree, it was small selection and greens not that great but there were several sides that were good like the slaw beets and three bean salad. The entree of prime rib was perfect tender cooked expertly and served with a large sweet potato. This is what the place is known for and obviously for good reason. read more

Drove by this place a million times and finally stopped it. Their sign, "eat here or we'll both starve" always made me laugh. This is one of those old fashioned Catskills places. A small motel is connected. Large rooms with casual decor, place mats not table clothes, and a salad bar. My husband had the prime rib, cooked perfectly and enough for 2 more meals I think. I had the trout almondeine and it was yummy. I never had trout before, but I figured I was in trout town, so why not. Very mild fish. I liked it. Comes with head on and u have to carefully remove the bones, but it was worth it. Service was good and friendly. read more

So, a total of 15 minutes and absolutely no service, not even a friendly greeting. To add to this, the minimum entree price was approximately $20, and that was for chicken Parmesan, a normally inexpensive entree. Bottom line, don't bother visiting unless they get new staff and can eliminate the rank stench of urine in the dining room. Something smelled really weird when I walked into this place. My boyfriend smokes Reds and could also smell some un appetizing funk. I cannot even describe it. I was not sure I could eat anything there without it seasoning every bite. I did a sniffy tour of the room and decided closer to the steps to the bar was ok and I could order. We were starving from the 2 hour hike we had taken so I was excited to have soup and salad from the 'bar' while our trout was prepared. I had a totally enjoyable junk food salad (Iceberg lettuce, ranch dressing style) and creamy spinach soup that actually could have been house made. Our fish arrived, I got broiled with rice, he got panfried with fries, delicious! So much food for $19.95. Stayed at the motel this weekend. Don't bother staying here. I wanted to leave the first night then the second night was a disaster. At 3am-5am there were drunk people out in front of our room. I couldn't believe it. A guy came in drunk with two young boys and a baby in a carriage an proceeded to carry the carriage up to the second floor. There was no lock on our window and the door had a lot to be desired as far as safety goes. The hotel was cheap in price but not worth it at all. The cabinets in the bathroom were broken as well as the dresser. The restaurant prime rib was crappy. I think it was left over and they warmed it up in the microwave. I was very upset with this ordeal of both places. My anniversary was a total disaster. read more
