BAM! One of my favorite bar/restaurants in all if Chicago! Great food, beer, music and staff! Their burgers are notorious and so are their cocktails! This is a great whisky bar too. They have a nice selection of whisky and scotch, including lagavulin, laphroaig, and jonny walker blue. I've become a regular for a reason. Because everything here ROCKS (pun intended). They have a new homemade soup every week too! If it's the roasted red pepper soup, order 2! Its THAT good. read more

I love this place. I don't know what it is about it. I've been here with a friend, and out on a date, and both times had a great time (and an even better time after Rocks on the date). The waitresses I've had have all been super nice, able to talk about the beers, etc. The vibe is casual and cute. I'm so excited to get back here once patio season starts. Drink specials keep my tab down, but watch out if you aren't ordering a special. I really like their wraps, and their sweet potato fries - hello?!? - SO GOOD. I've eaten (and overeaten) at Rocks more times than I care to count. I give them major props for specials on bourbon, the Rocks burger (in addition to their monthly specialty burgers--my favorite of which being the Red, White and Blue Burger: a patty with two kinds of cheese and gosh darn little smokies on the top), and their great goat cheese and marinara with pita wedges appetizer. Nice breezy atmosphere, passable music, and food that keeps me coming back. read more

Sports bar: not my venue of choice, but I came with friends after an event. $35 for 2 drinks and 2 appetizers: far too much for the fried portions I nimbly chewed to avoid burning my mucus membranes with the fried nuggets. The Spicy Thai Chicken Lettuce Wraps fared better but: really, $3 a piece? If you are just drinking this may be fine: quite large liquor and beer selection. Unfortunately had to watch my back with a very strange fellow ordering multiple drinks behind me and having a conversation with his internal demons complete with gestures: should he be allowed to drink? I met my friend here for a few drinks recently and nearly fainted when I opened the craft beer portion of the menu. It's not that it's extremely big, but the selection is different than most bars in the area. It's very rare for me to find a beer that I haven't had, but here I found several! Awesome! Huge Beer Selection. Yummy - too bad I am hungover from drinking for 72 hours. Service - Was not impressive with our waitress, but the bus boy was HOT. Food - Yummy. I had the french onion soup, delicious! Also, the Whiskey cranberry salad was ok. The chicken was bland, boring and uneventful. Not what I expected. The spinach was fresh and tasty. Dressing was delicious, light but flavorful. Not sure how "real" the cranberries were, or if they were craisins. Would order again but without the chicken. read more

I've been to this location (today) and the Lincoln Park location 3 or 4 times and without a doubt, the LP location is far superior. It's superior as far as atmosphere, service, and the food (that's what we all care about right?). Came here as a group for lunch and neither of us were impressed. The waitress kept sticking her arm pit over my drink, she gave me the wrong salad dressing (and their house dressing that I was given after asking for a substitute was awful). The typical sandwich that the honey orders came out burnt, lacked flavor, and tasted like leftovers from what she typically would have been served at the other location. The burger our friend order tasted plain, tasted plain like something you'd expect from a place off the highway and not a small business. We would probably not come back to this location and it's unlikely we'd ever recommend this place to anyone. read more

I've been here numerous times and never had a bad experience. I lived across the street for a few years and this place is a great local option with great food. Their buffalo fries are the bomb and their burgers are all delish! Their French Onion soup is also really good except I don't like that they melt the cheese over the side, as a cheese lover it seems like a waste because you can't eat it. The drink options are great, there's pretty much something for everyone. My only complaint is that they have great daily specials but their 1/2 off wings on Mondays are skimpy. They're cheap but you get what you pay for which isn't much. They're usually always only partially sauced and really tiny. Other than that this place is great for a game or a casual bite! read more

I love that you are open again in my neighborhood, but wasn't happy with the burger I got last nght around 8:30 pm. I came in with two great friends from Michigan and raved about your burgers. We sat up front by the windows and our server, female, was excellent. I ordered the ROCKS burger as I love the crispy onions on it. The burger was good, but the crispy onions looked like the small fried bits at the bottom of the frier pan. No distinguishable onions at all. I took them off and ate the burger. I mentioned it to the server but said we were in a hurry as my friends were heading home. Please, be more conscious of your product as that burger is great when you get everything right. The tator tots are smaller than what I remember you having before the fire. They use to be larger and were so good. I wont be back for a while until I get better reviews from friends goiing in. read more

solid bar menu with the usual suspects plus more... good beer selection as well - no more than the usual but some of the regulars are replaced with some uncommon drafts including an organic beer. i was happy to see decent vegi items - the usual: salads, grilled cheese (actually listed as a panini with pesto!), vegi burger, hummus plus not so usual: falafel and a vegi wrap with substantial veggies. i settled for the hummus - the hummus was better than average, the pita was delicious and the veggies were fresh. although i didn't order them - 2 items caught my eye: greek nachos (made with pita chips and gyros meat) and deep fried snickers bar! i enjoyed my chilean red and although in sweaty vball gear, felt extra fancy drinking from a balloon glass vs. your usual "blah" bar wine glass :) read more

HOLY SHIT THAT WAS THE WORST DELIVERY I HAVE EVER HAD. AVOID!!!! The "kahuna burger" was more like the guys head in the car AFTER Jules eats the Kahuna burger. The Wings had enough salt to kill a man, and were overcooked. The "try our take on chili" looked like actual dogshit. Their "take" on chili is to put beans from a can and some ground beef into a styrofoam cup. I tried this place because it was local. Rocks has become my local, the food is good, the staff nice and its crawling distance to home, if things end up going all pear shaped. Outdoor seating on the sidewalk out front for watching the girls go by on a beautiful Chicago say, or indoors watching the game or whatever on the LCD's...either works. Burgers = on the better end of good. Wings = yum Salads = Excellent And the sweet fancy moses is the shrimp appetizer. Yummers. read more

Had awesome service when I went out with friends. Possibly one of the best waitresses I have ever had anywhere. The food was good we had the mac and cheese wedges, I had the steak sandwich, friends had the quesadilla and the burger (which is enough for 2). The food was excellent and our bill was about $83 pre tip for 5 mixed drinks, a beer, app., and 3 dinners I think thats pretty good. Came here for drinks Friday night and am loving this is a new Lakeview bar option. Close enough to boystown to have that option, but not yet in the craziness :) Our server was extremely attentive and gave some solid beer recommendations. I was shocked at how unbelievable the sauteed green beans were here! Everyone was eating them from my plate - moreso than the fries on others plates. They're garlic loaded, so you'll be prepared to fend off any vampires after eating these. The Leroy Brown sandwich (mac & cheese with BBQ pulled pork) was delicious, but I'd rank the green beans a little higher than the sandwich. Both are going to be items I order again, that's for sure! I live on the same street as Rocks, and I've been looking for an opportunity to try it out for a few months now. Well, today was the day....and really, I didn't think there was anything special about this place. I got the mac & cheese with chicken that everyone on here seems to be raving about, and while it was good, it was forgettable. The atmosphere is very generic --- nothing to write home about. My server wasn't the greatest --- and business was slow. A very cool spot that I got brought to while in Chicago. The burgers are great as is the Buffalo Chicken wraps. The sweet potato fries are very good as well and they provide an excellent set of taps, including a nice selection from my native Brooklyn Brewery. The decor is what really stands out. This is a very upscale bar feel to this place with the black interior and dim lighting. Excellent little place for a quick pint or bite. read more

Rock's has become a regular hangout for me. They have two locations, this one in Lakeview and then another one in Lincoln Park. I tend to frequent both. A few highlights, their beer selection including their beer of the month, their burger of the month (my favorite, the 4th of July), and their great staff. They recently expanded this location, which really helped out considering this place is always busy. My favorite items on the menu: southwest steak salad, Rocks Burger, Black and Blue Chili, White Trash Nachos, Santa Fe Wrap and if you make it to brunch Frosted Flakes French Toast and their Bloody Mary's (They use bacon infused vodka!!). Oh, and I highly recommend getting the tots, I don't know what it is about them but they are seriously my favorite side item. Definitely give Rocks a try, you won't be disappointed. read more

Update: I used to love this place, but now I only like it a lot. They got rid of my favorite menu item: the turkey burgers. At a place specializing in burger options, many of their gourmet burgers were perfectly suited for turkey, and the slightly healthier meat meant a little less guilt over my curly fries and beer(s). I don't love all turkey burgers, but Rocks did them right, and I would come here every 10-14 days just craving a turkey burger and a couple brews. We still come here, but a little less often, like every 3 weeks now, and mainly for the abundant outdoor seating area in the summer and friendly servers. Still good prices and fairly tasty, but bring back the turkey burger and we would come twice as often! read more

Rocks is, literally, my corner bar. I've been there a good many times. Sometimes it's for a late night drink on a Tuesday, other times for food on a Sunday evening. I have not gone on a Friday or Saturday night since they got their liquor license, so I can't speak to that crowd or experience. But any time I've been there it hasn't been too crowded and the bartender and servers have always been really friendly and quick with the service. They have a real good selection of beer on tap and the food menu is pretty good. I've had burgers, the shrimp po boy and some other things and everything has been tasty. Only downsides are that the music can be too loud and the place is pretty tiny, so it does get packed. Someday soon I hope this will be the place where everybody knows my name. read more

Most recently I was here for Tuesday's $5 (huge glasses of) wine night, which I knew about, but ALSO they have $2 tacos on Tuesdays too -- any taco on the menu, not just "oh these are crappy ground beef tacos for super cheap since we have a special, but the ones on our menu are still full price" as I've had elsewhere that shan't be named. (Just a note: I tried each one, and they're all supremely spicy, maybe I'm a wuss though, but do with that what you will. I was just happy they were entree tacos for $2, and they were so good! Okay, moving on from the tacos...) I've been here quite a few times. Service has always been friendly, have never had any major issues. It can be a bit loud, but that's what happens when you're at a good bar in Lakeview. I don't mind the blaring music, either -- they play good stuff (generally). I love this place, their food is above average and their weekly specials (drinks AND food) are pretty great. And now that I'm walking distance, I can't wait to try some more stuff on the menu! read more

Wow! This neighborhood has changed. When I lived here 10 years ago, there wasn't much on Broadway except places to buy dance music CD's and a Seattle Best's coffee house. I've moved back and Broadway has improved a lot. Rocks is a welcome addition, even if it's just a bar with decent food. We stopped in on a busy Friday night and after about a 30 minute wait, we were seated. It was a bit cramped but not a big deal. I had the Don Corleone chicken sandwich. It was okay. Nothing at Rocks is ground breaking. My partner had the Santa Fe wrap but he found it a bit "bland" and regretted not ordering the Buffalo Chicken wrap. Our friend, who had dined here before, ordered the burger and let us know that they're kind of known for their burgers. I lived in WI for 8 years and while I wasn't a big fan of the state, they do know their burgers up there so I doubt Rocks could come close but I liked my meal enough that I would definitely be back if I was in the neighborhood. read more

Stopped by here today while walking around with the goal of finding a new place to eat. We were looking for something simple but tasty, and found exactly that. It is essentially a sports bar, but don't let that turn you away. There is the occasional sports bar that actually does serve up some good food. (Darkhorse Tavern on Sheffield is another) A fairly standard menu: Burgers, wraps, salads, house chili, etc. But everything I tasted was done really well, and they even had a number of healthy options for those watching the waistline. A few tables outside for those rare nice days in the city, and friendly service made for an experience that I intend to repeat in the near future. Oh check out the black and blue chili. A friend and I were wandering around on a Saturday looking for a college football game that we couldn't find on any other channels. We never did find the game but decided to settle in at Rocks for a few drinks. The had decent drink specials; $10 mimosa pitchers and $4 beer of the month. When we walked in the host told us it was a 15min wait for a table even though we didn't see anyone else standing around waiting, and there were two empty tables. So we found a seat at the bar and that is where the three stars comes from. Our original bartender was friendly and we were asking him a lot of questions about all the different whiskeys they have on the menu and which bottles were which. Then there was a shift change and we got a new bartender who was super laid back and chatty and friendly. We ended up bitching about DMB with her because there were so many people in there before the concert. After sitting there for a few hours drinking individual mimosa pitchers we decided we were hungry. We didn't want to go overboard with the food so we split the mini burger appetizer. There are four to the plate and they were the perfect size to share and not feel sick from overeating. I really wanted to try the mac & cheese bites, curly fries, and everything else on the menu but I have decided to try one new thing every time I return. Like I said the three stars is for my experience sitting at the bar and hanging out talking and watching some TV. I am totally open to going back there for the drink specials and I do want to try the brunch. read more

I had visited the Lincoln Park location once last year, and when I visited this location it was very clear why. We had a group of 5 and they had us wait 45 minutes for a table even though they said it would be less than 15 minutes. Despite 2 tables opening up along the window, they said we couldn't fit despite it being easy to throw a third chair along either side of the table. The food was average at best, though their bottled-beer selection is pretty decent. The bar is also way too loud, with the music making it difficult to even converse. That would be one thing if it was mostly people drinking at night, but this was dinner at 6:30pm. Don't bother, there are a lot of other great bar and grill's in Lakeview. read more

I used to hang out there all the time when I lived in the hood, but I recently returned since they expanded the seating area. Much better now at least 20 or so more place settings. I was able to get a table right away. Food was great as normal. I recommend the mac & cheese wedges and the red eye burger. One unique idea is the bar selling Smirnoff Ice, but strictly so you can "ice" your friends at the bar. And for $2.50 for the bottle its totally worth it! The bar will even help you deliver the prank by putting it in a to-go box to deliver to your unsuspecting friend sitting with you. AWESOME! Get your rocks off here! read more

Yeah....seriously, nothing special here. My friend used to live a few blocks from this place and told me how much she loved it, so we went for lunch yesterday. When we walked in it smelled like dirty mop water and it didn't improve much from there. Service was slow which is fine if they were actually busy, but there were only a couple of other tables. The food took f-o-r-e-v-e-r and my friend was starving. The waitress messed up the cheeses on the sliders and tomatoes ended up in my wrap even though I asked for no tomatoes. Nothing tasted very fresh and I'm sure it's all frozen. I don't know why my friend loved this place so much, but things have clearly changed. read more

Great place for whiskey, beer and burgers, necessarily in that order. I love the $5 whiskey specials and that they come with a single giant "Rock" ice cube. The burgers are seemingly endless and I have tried a few on the menu, but lately they have been a little dry. Certainly one of the better burger places in Lakeview, the specials on all different things do a great job of pushing you out of your comfort zone, I just wish the basics of their burgers were a little better. read more

I like this place! It can be kind of over-priced, but the service is really great. There is a very extensive list of beers and daily food and drink specials. They have some good cocktails on the menu too! I can't remember which ones I've had, but I know I've tried a couple and enjoyed them. As for me, I always get the Big Kahuna with chicken breast (you can swap a chicken breast for a burger on any of their burgers here!) and I love it. On Mondays they have wings for $.50 (which isn't great when I recall the days of $.10 wings at Brothers' down in Champaign...), but the wings are REALLY good. They are dry rubbed and grilled. Nice outdoor patio seating also, and they have those huge windows that swing open in the nice weather. There's a jukebox too... makes for a fun place if you're in the area! read more

Great establishment. I go here once a week, either to grab lunch or drinks. The food is always great and what you'd expect. I have never had a bad service here, really enjoy the servers, they are always cheerful and happy to serve. The beer and whiskey selection is a huge reason I keep coming back :) only complaint is the bathroom is literally like a freezer! read more
