i have been to this place about 4 times and I'm a big fan! Brunch on Saturday was delicious! they have the best sangria! i was really sad when i heard the chorizo poppers were off the menu (nooooo!) they were so good! luckily all their food is yummy! i really like the "build your own burger" choice on the menu because they have so many ingredients to choose from that you can really detail how you want it and customize it. If you don't feel like building your own burger they have a "burger of the month" and the ones i have tried always sound crazy but are very delicious! I'm surprised to read the critical reviews. I went there for happy hour last week and had a terrific time. The bartender, Kristin, was great! Very kind, very fast, and even allowed us to sample a couple of brews we weren't familiar with. The crowd was great and not a sorority crowd at all - mostly working professionals. Oh hey ROCKS! Great place for hang-over brunch! They gave me a birthday shot, but that did not make up for my space-cadet server. I think her good looks are getting her away with the mistakes she makes. I had a burger, and I ordered med-well, but it came out charred yet uncooked on the inside; which tells you it was frozen when they cooked it. The smashed potatoes were eh-ok, but nothing worth ordering again. I understand it is a bar and I was expecting bar food, just not this bad! Definitely my new neighborhood gem. Food is great, friend had the burger which they are known for and she said it was the best she has had, I had the Santa Fae Wrap and it was delicious! It took around five minutes for anyone to initially come to our table to take our drink order, but I think we arrived at shift change. Shift change isn't a good excuse, but the service did get much better over the course of dinner. The fish & chips were a little overcooked. They weren't bad. They just weren't great. Also, we felt the prices of the food and the beer were a little overpriced. The same beers down the street were a dollar less on the same night. Stopped in for a reunion with a friend from high school who I hadn't seen in 7 years or so. I had grilled cheese which honestly I probably could have made better at home. But our waitress was amazing! Every time she came over to ask if we wanted more drinks she would look at me and say "She has a devilish look in her eye" and bring us more drinks. 4 hours later we had to cut ourselves off. We definitely did some damage, but it was well worth it! I'm surprised they didn't try to move us to the bar, since we took up a table for 4 hours...so that's pretty sweet. read more

Solid bar with a decent food. Rocks is a solid 3.5 teetering on 4 stars. I've been here a few times and enjoy their whiskey selection and white trash nachos. Fair warning - I drank a lot of whiskey before eating the nachos, but they were delicious. The service is friendly and the meal portions are more than adequate. However, the music is a bit loud for no reason. I went there after work on Friday, around 6:30ish, and the music was blasting with a tiny crowd. Anyway, it's a decent place to go with a group of people. I'm not sure this is the best place to "meet" new friends. However, the bar is true and true a Chicago bar. Huge beer list, wide variety of booze, decent food, and lots of solid oak tables and TV's. If you're in the neighborhood - come grab a drink here. read more

There is a reason (well, many!) why Rocks Lakeview is so busy - fantastic food, a "neighborhood bar" atmosphere, and the staff is as friendly as you can get. This is a great place to catch sports, if you don't want to go to a Wrigleyville-type sports bar, or perfect for a place to wind down after a long night, to get a good filling dinner, or to spend the entire night chilling out. Their BOM (Burger of the Month) and BOM (Beer of the Month) add additional variety to the menu. The wait for carry-out is never long, even when the bar is packed. Specific food items that are a must try: White Trash Nachos, The (Actually) Chopped Salad, Santa Fe Wrap, Rocks Burger, Red-Eye Burger, Black & Blue Chili, Buffalo Fries (these are really messy), Onion Scoops (the sauce is killer too), Baja Fish Tacos, and of course the Deep-Fried Snickers Bar. read more

I think that's very affordable. The decor is very nice with wood and dark colors, and it's a laid back environment that lends itself to people on dates or friends in small groups. Nice weekend drink specials (the manmosa is yummy) however we were not fans of the sangaria. I've been here several times since my last review, and have tried several of their menu items. Their specials (50 cent wings on Monday, $6 glasses of wine and $6 salads on Tuesday - there's 4 salads to choose from, etc.) seem a bit pricey to be specials, but the quality of the food is above standard bar food. The wait staff is friendly and attentive. There's several tv's although none of them is particularly big, so you can go to watch a game but this doesn't really have that typical "Chicago sports bar" feel to it. There really isn't a place like Rocks in the near-by area. A good size bar with a menu that has a good selection of food and beer. They have beer that is commonly not served including German and Belgian beers. The burgers are interesting and aren't the normal run-of-the-mill combinations. During the summer there is outdoor seating. I've never had to wait for a table or room at the bar, but somehow there was only enough space for one more party at the time so its not like its empty. read more

They changed their menu and their burgers are great now. You can get tots or mashed potatoes on the side instead of just french fries. also the mac n cheese bites are amazing. First experience there was mediocre. I had tacos and my boyfriend had a burger. The food was very average, nothing exceptional. The service was average as well. There were more flies in the restaurant than there are in most barns. They need to close their doors and windows, if I wanted to eat with bugs all over me I would have requested a table outside. We were greeted at the door and were told they were serving food for another 20 minutes or so. The waitress was attentive and we received our burgers quickly. I have been here now twice. My first visit would have been 3 stars, but this last visit was definitely a 1 star. 1st Visit - Saturday around 8:00PM. A friend and I had appetizers and dinner there. The food was "bar food" at best, and was reasonable in price for what you get, but the portions were small/medium for the price. Also, they were out of Waffle Fries, something that I really wanted to eat there. 2nd Visit - A different Saturday, a month later, at 7PM. I arrived with a total party of 6 of us. I arrived 20 minutes ahead of my friends, to make sure we would be able to get a table. I was told by the bouncer/door greeter guy that it would be a 25 minute wait. Perfect. However, 30 minutes later, we were still not seated. We had been waiting by the front door, and then we were told to move over into the corner because we were blocking the entrance (we did not want to wait at the bar, since it was full and none of us wanted a drink). What was the problem? we had a table of 6, and ALL of their tables only seat 4. They had another table set up with a group of 8, but they were sitting around long after their bill was paid (I know that's not the restaurants fault), but all of the other open tables were seperate. I really felt like we were being punished for having 6 people. After that 30 minutes we left. When we left, there was no apology or anything said - something I would have expected from a brand-new restaurant trying to establish itself. If you want the same service speed and food, head over to Halsted's a block over. It is usually pretty empty in there, and we did NOT have to wait half an hour to get seated. It's too bad, since this is is unbelievably close to me - maybe if they re-work some things I will go back. read more

I did shell out $5 for a root beer float. It came in a GIANT MUG that, once the head dissipated, was only filled about 20%. 2 scoops of Breyers and a 12oz IBC root beer shouldn't = $5. I really love their 'Man-Mosas', which are on special on Sundays. My girlfriends like to get our nails done across the street and then come here for brunch after. I've visited this place on different days of the week, at various times, and I never have had to wait to be seated. I used to live a few blocks from Rocks, and I actually even came here around my 21st birthday. It always seems like a good idea to go and then when I'm actually there, I regret it a little bit. The food itself is pretty delicious but every time I've gone I end up waiting forever just to get an appetizer. Their burgers are relatively worth the wait but a little pricey for what they are. Usually when I go now I end up getting the half-sandwich deal. Good drink selection, but again, a little pricey. A 22-oz 312 should never cost more than 4 dollars.
