Rock Salt grille has been a favorite for years. My late husband and I went there with friends a few times a year for many years, even though it was a 45 minute drive. He loved the oysters and I loved the crab. I went there yesterday with the same friends to toast my late husband. I ordered the cream of crab soup, as always, and the oyster basket in his memory. When I took the first spoonful of soup, I knew something was wrong. It was very salty, and when I stirred it, instead of finding the usual clumps of crabmeat, there were just a few strands. And the oyster basket... Well .. The fries were chewy and tough. And the oysters, once I cut through the heavy and dry coating, I found a very tiny oyster. I can't begin to tell you how sad I was to have such a disappointing experience. I will not be back. read more

Really sad I have to give this so few stars considering all of the good reviews I've heard/read on Yelp. I came here with friends who have visited several times and highly recommended it. Maybe I just ordered the wrong things or had too high expectations, but I wasn't impressed during my visit. A redeeming quality was the service - our party of five was seated immediately despite a packed restaurant, and everything came out pretty quickly. Our waitress was also consistently attentive, interactive, and friendly throughout our dinner. I started with an orange crush, which honestly might have been the worst orange crush I have ever had. There was hardly any orange flavor at all. It tasted like they used orange seltzer water or something instead of orange juice. My boyfriend ordered one as well and his was the same. I wanted another drink but knew I definitely wasn't going to get a crush again. The sangria was a special for that day and I enjoyed it a lot more. The friends I came with raved about the seafood skins, so we got some of those to share. Again, I wasn't super impressed. They were decent, but I thought they could have used more of the seafood filling. I had the mahi mahi tacos as my entree, which I thought were bland. The cilantro slaw it came with was mostly kale or some other leafy green, which I felt was too tough to chew as a slaw on a taco. Everyone else was pleased with the food they got, which included a fried shrimp basket, seafood club, and one of their salads. Nothing I had was horrible - it wasn't so bad I felt I had to send it back, but it really was such an average experience, I have to only give three stars. Good food, way too busy. We had a Saturday early dinner a few weeks ago at Rock Salt Grille. I don't think reservations were an option, so we went early at 4:30ish, and we still waited a long time in the little anteroom. When we finally got in, we were given a marginal table (as we'd said first available), a high 4-top in the bar just inside the door, in a constant cold breeze from the opening front door. The rest of the bar was full of folks watching the games. Monica, our server, was friendly and efficient and knew it was a difficult spot, but the place was just packed. Our friends had been but we hadn't. We had a drink, then dove in, with a pretty good cream of crab soup and some very tasty rockfish bites, plentiful and with an irresistible Old Bay ranch dip. Then my bride had the mahi mahi tacos and I had the enormous seafood club. This towering sandwich, including a crab cake, bacon, and lots of shrimp salad, was very good, if logistically difficult to eat. It came with good fries alongside. We still managed (many leftovers were boxed) to try some desserts, including a good red velvet Smith Island cake and peanut butter "bomb". With a round of drinks, apps, and desserts, we ended up around $50 per couple before tip. We enjoyed the food and the service, and would try again, though not on such a busy day. read more

Wonderful experience spearheaded by our waitress, Brianna. We were fortunate to be seated out on the small patio overlooking town. The four of us had a wonderful meal consisting of the Tuscan Seafood 4.5, Seafood Medley 4.25, Grouper special 4.0 and Cream of Crab Soup 4.0. We visited for the first time at the recommendation of a friend and were not disappointed. We arrived at 1pm on a Sunday afternoon when there was a crowd, however the waiting area was reasonably comfortable and we only waited for about 25 minutes at which time we were seated and prompted tended to by Emily who was outstanding in information, attentiveness, and serving. Being vegan, I ordered the quinoa salad which qas great. My wife got the Maryland crab soup which was outstanding. We parked in what turned out to be a public parking lot immediately adjacent to the restaurant and paid $2.50 for 2 hours with a minimum stay of 2 hrs, but they may have free parking in the rear which seemed poorly marked. The best crab cakes I've ever had and I've had them all over the country. Service is outstanding Martini was great except no grey goose but kettle one was an acceptable alternative. This was our first time here and it's very nice. The server was awesome she really set the tone. Her name was Breanne. We started out with a raw oysters shuckers choice since we haven't had raw oysters in 20 plus years. They gave use 3 different kinds and we liked the Wild Bills so much we had six more of those. Delightful. My husband had the Maple Bacon Salmon and Shrimp. He loved it! I had a taste and it was fantastic. I had a crab cake that was very good I'm not complaining but I've had better. Another table got the seafood newberg and it looked delicious. We had a chocolate peanut butter bomb for dessert it was fantastic! This was our second time visiting here for dinner. We visited in the early evening Sunday. The restaurant was nearly full, but there were a few tables free and we were seated immediately. As soon as you walk inside, there is that recognizable seafood smell that I've grown up with living in Maryland. The restaurant has a cozy atmosphere, but can be a bit loud with the mostly open floor plan. In our 2 visits, the service has been great. Definitely above average in my opinion. Even with being nearly full, our food arrived quickly. We go here for seafood and everything we have tried so far has been great. They have some creative options for dinner sides which we appreciate. 5 star restaurant for sure ! Valentines Day dinner started with Md crab soup for me and cream of crab for my girlfriend. Apps were Panko fried oysters and Rock Salt oysters , both delicious. Entries were stuffed Atlantic Rockfish and stuffed lobster tail which was a nice size. With 2 glasses of wine and a few Duckpin draft beers the bill was $245 but well worth it on a special day !! read more

Food was average and service was the worst I have ever had. The waiter approached us in the beginning upbeat and welcoming. Then it went downhill from there. He was barely around. We ordered 2 apps for the table. He only brought one (I believe he forgot to place the order for the other one which was onion rings). We were completely finished the first app when the onion rings came. How long does it take to cook onion rings? Not that long. He never came back to check on us. We had to finally track him Down to ask for the check. From that time until he came and gave us the check it was 20 mins. He would wait on others but not bring our check. When we gave him the payment (it was partial gift card, credit card and cash) he was more concerned that we didn't forget his tip when we told him how to split it. He actually came back and questioned us. We were planning on leaving cash on the table for him as the tip. Food wasn't worth the inept service we received. Service was very slow but the food was really good. I will defiantly be back. The Fried Green Tomatoes were amazing. Super crispy with a really good sauce. The Seafood Club was huge with a lot of shrimp salad (about double the amount of crab cake). Cream of Crab soup was thick and delicious. The Mahi Mahi tacos were ok. This restaurant is usually our go to place when we are in Westminster Maryland. However, this last visit was surprisingly disappointing. The drinks were just okay, the mahi mahi tacos were terrible, way too fishy definitely not what you would expect for mahi and they were drowning in the sauces, the crab cake/ shrimp salad sandwich had a little pebble in it and there were so many flies in the restaurant it was gross. definitely has changed since we were here back in November and we will definitely not be back. read more

We happened to be in the area for the Peep Show at the Westminster Mall and stopped by RockSalt Grille and we were not disappointed. I ordered the Seafood Club and it was a delicious and massive sandwich that I could only eat one half and took the rest home. It was a crab cake and shrimp salad with bacon, lettuce and tomato on a perfectly toasty white bread. My husband ordered the RockSalt Burger and thought it was good when he added a side of the horseradish garlic aioli sauce. Our meals came with Boardwalk fries and they were pretty tasty. Our waitress was very friendly and accommodating. The ambiance was very casual but inviting and we are glad we found this place. When we are in the area, we would definitely visit again. There is a paid parking lot and on the street of the side of the restaurant. We even ordered a Limoncello cake for dessert which was awesome and comes freshly baked from a bakery from Hampstead, MD. A first time visit to RockSalt but it certainly won't be the last. We were a party of two on a Friday in the early afternoon. The hostess sat us promptly and our server, Sam, was at the table within a few minutes. A review of the daily specials resulted in the lunch selection, broiled swordfish with Lemon Butter carrots and Lemon Butter Broccoli for sides. Also ordered a bowl of Maryland crab soup which came out promptly and had plenty of vegetables and crab meat. The swordfish was done perfectly (some places overcook it and dry it out, not here) and the slight modifications I requested (no pesto and the topping sauce on the side) were done as requested. The fish was flaky and tender with a delicious flavor. The sides were cooked to perfection, not mushy nor crunchy. Our server did not hover but was attentive, stopping by to check on us at appropriate intervals. Overall, a fantastic dining experience. Certainly a gem in downtown Westminster. We went on this last Friday evening and my brother's wife and I had the lobster pasta. It was bland with no flavor and pricey. The bread that came with it tasted way better. Cream of crab was okay. I had better and flavorful ones. Seafood tots were delicious. My husband had the braised short ribs with bacon mac and cheese. My husband and brother enjoyed their meals. Our drinks were on point. I had the delicious tropical margarita and hubby had their bourbon. My brother and wife had the blackberry crush margaritas. They were all good. The apple crumb my husband had was good. The prices to me are OVERRATED for how the food tasted. Our waitress was amazing. She made good suggestions and despite the busy evening she managed to be attentive to us. The restaurant was hot and uncomfortable. Why would you have your customers seating in the heat when we just from being hot outside. The beauty of eating in or dining in a restaurant is to be comfortable as possible. This will not be a place I would go back to. It sad when the bread, appetizers, drinks, and dessert takes better than the food. Don't let the looks of it fool you. read more

Yesterday meal was one of the worst after years of dining here. The halibut special was $42 and the size of the halibut was hidden by the two shrimp it came with. Two of us actually thought they forgot to include the halibut the filet was so small. The crab cake was only warm but still tasty. The French fries were lukewarm and soggy with grease awful. My wife and I were looking for a good restaurant while in town and this place looked extremely interesting. The service was a 10/10 our waiter was quick to greet us and very fast with drink refills. For dinner I had a crab cake and some Brussel sprouts, and I would say it was the 2nd best crab cake I've ever had. We were stuffed so we didn't entertain deserts but they looked scrumptious. The atmosphere and lighting was great. The food was also very good. If there is one negative thing I can say it's that the Seafood Tots appetizer has too much cheese sauce. Not that it doesn't taste great, but it was hard to distinguish the tots because there is so much cheese sauce. Really disappointed! We have enjoyed RockSalt Grille's crab cakes for many years. NOT ANYMORE - We recently ordered their crab cakes. Only to have been served a terrible replacement of their delicious lump crab cake (and at the same high price). It was mostly mushy wet, tasteless, stringy crab meat with some lump crab meat tossed in. What a shame, in so many ways?! We are so sorry their crab cakes are no longer worth the price. read more

We stopped here on the advice of several Hanover neighbors and we were not disappointed. First, a word of caution. If you want to try this place bring along a big appetite, especially if you want to try out the Soft Crab Pretzel to kick things off. We split it and I had a cup of crab soup and I should have stopped there. But I went on to order up a plate of pan-seared tuna and barely got thru that! Meanwhile, my wife had French Onion soup and a side of Lemon Butter Carrots. We both drooled at the dessert tray as it traipsed by but decided discretion was the better part of valor. This is a nice little place in the middle of downtown Westminster. Parking may be an issue - plenty of places on the street right outside but we were there at about 2 pm. Our waitress was a sweet young gal named Rosa who took extra care to make sure we newcomers got to know the ropes. She told us all about what they offer in their raw bar. Then she went over the lunch menu with us and let us know about a couple of food and drink specials that were available. She was great throughout our stay - not hovering at all but always nearby if we needed her. She's easily the best waitress we've encountered lately - terrific personality and she knows the place inside and out. We hope she's there the next time we drop by. Lastly, the food. The crab pretzel was just like everyone had said - worth going there on its own. My wife's soup was good although she said there weren't as many onions as she would have liked. My crab soup was okay - they make it with some peppery seasoning that wasn't to my taste. It was good - just different. The carrots were yummy and my tuna was without doubt the best I've had lately. We have been coming here for years now and every single time we are super impressed. The staff make you feel like you're friends not customers they're are so super friendly and attentive. The waitresses work together they help each other they are not katty or trying to stab one another in the backs. Now into the food OMG ... everything we've ever tried and trust me we've tried a lot is above and beyond anything you'd ever expect. From quality and portion size, you more than get your moneys worth. No matter what anyone on here says my wife and I will continue to come here even just for their drinks OMG they can make you any crush you would like and they're super fresh squeezed on the spot and they do the crush better than anyone in the state of maryland. We always sit outside at the bar it's the most amazing laid back place ever!!!! Do yourselves a favor and drop by and tell them squatch the guitar playing bad boy sent you by way of Middletown maryland .....you won't be disappointed. We split potato boats and Buffalo cauliflower for apps which we all enjoyed. I got the RockSalt Burger which was very good (very thick burger so be aware of that.) Others in my party got the chicken salad (said it was great) and the cream of crab soup and crab cake sandwich (my grandpa said it was the best crab he's ever had in his life.) Mediocre at best. First of all, the provide you with a menu that includes happy hour specials but then tell you that the happy hour specials are only available in the "tavern" (bar). Dumb The decor is classic millennial gray. The floor was slippery for the cheap wooden chairs. The food was meh. Pita bread is not an appropriate dipping bread for the white wine broth or the muscles. The ceviche was ok but look, well, odd on the rough cut bed of lettuce. The best thing was the old bay ranch with our fries. Our waitress pretty much ignored us when we decided to just order apps. The waitress at the table next door was rude to her patron when he wanted her to wait just a minute to take her cash tip and told him that she had other things to do. Another table complained about their very dark fried food (obviously the oil had not been changed in the fryers) and were basically told that's just how dark it should be. Very mediocre. When this place first opened it checked ALL of the boxes, but over time, it has slid down beside the rest-just ok. the drinks are good but the last few times I have been in the food is just ok. I got the shrimp & scallop Alfredo and am sorry to say the shrimp Alfredo I make at home is better. This dish was just bland. The service was pretty slow. They were busy when we arrived but as we were there, they cleared out. It took a while to get drinks and the salads didn't come out until right before the main course so there was no time to eat them. Excellent food and wonderful service. The room was very comfortable. We went for a late lunch at about 2:00 PM. The restaurant was still somewhat busy but we're were seated right away. We order a cup of cream of crab soup and the lunch entrees of crab cake and sea scallops. The soup was so wonderful, it had a great flavor and was packed with crab. The scallops were very tender and packed with flavor. The crab cake was very large and loaded with lump crab and very well seasoned. I don't get out to downtown Westminster too often and I had been wanting to try out RockSalt Grille so this past Thursday was my chance. I took a few minutes upon entering to look over the menu at the hostess stand. After finding some things I would enjoy, I proceeded to walk up to the bar and have a seat. There were a few bartenders working and I was made aware of all of their names. After narrowing my choices down, one of the bartenders recommended me to go with the Teriyaki Tuna Wrap (pictured). This was seared rare teriyaki tuna (with miso sauce), island rice, & lettuce coming on a sun-dried tomato wrap. For me side, I opted for coleslaw (not pictured). I really enjoyed the wrap; the island rice inside had some pineapples it looked like. I was starving so the portion size was good for the money ($14.50) and had great flavor throughout. I love a good seared tuna dish, whatever its format is. The coleslaw, while tasty, had a ton of liquid. Now knowing that, I may opt for a different side the next time. I prefer my coleslaw to not be swimming. All in all, the staff was great and checked in with me after I received the food. The ambiance was a bit loud at around 5:30 at the bar. They have happy hour going to 6 and it's not a huge bar top. Looking at people's plates surrounding me, the food looks well presented and has given me some ideas for my next visit. read more

Attended with a large party for a birthday celebration. Had reservations at 5pm, seated at 5:35. Server was friendly but you could tell was very busy. One downfall is that with a party you can only split the check 3 ways.. good and bad. Since they do separate the check by seat # so not sure why they limit it to 3 checks... but it worked out just fine. Food was spot on with the crab cakes. Everyone said they were excellent, in size and taste. I had Chicken Chesapeake which was good, not great. The Chicken was very dry but the crab imperial on top was tasty. I also had the green beans and Brussel sprouts which both were bland, but warm and edible. The best part of the meal was dessert! Get the peanut butter bomb it's delicious! Cocktails were also very good, and not crazy pricey at $8-9. Overall I would definitely go back again. read more
