Ambiance, food, service was first class. Even the sun tea was outstanding. Be prepared to wait for a table unless you make a reservation. Even so the wait is worth the while. Had a great time with my family who I visited from NY. Wish I remembered the names of the waiter and assistant managers that came to our table. Their service is to be commended. We sat by the door because we did not make a reservation. Steak and cake was awesome, I had the Tuscan seafood, just inject that buttered wine sauce into my veins it was sooo good. Highly recommend. Had lunch with a friend today at The Rock Salt Grille. I've eaten there many times. In the past, it's been sometimes good, sometimes bad. Today, I was much less than impressed with the food. My friend gets the same items every time she goes to this place, but I'm a bit more into Variety. Today, I ordered a salmon BLT, often a decently safe sandwich in East Coast restaurants. This one was enormous, messy, and bad. First of all, trying to serve this combo on a hamburger bun instead of toasted bread is criminal. Soggy should never be the flavor of the day. The sandwich might have been decent otherwise. However, the bacon was undercooked, the lettuce and tomato way too large for the bun, the aoli flavorless and/or too skimpy, the overall presentation, silly. The waitress was sweet, but, largely, inefficient. We had to wait for our food way too long for a "lunch" window of time. The coffee had probably been brewed when the restaurant opened at 10:30 AM. The Oysters were not the greatest. I've been to Rock Salt many times and that was the first time I experienced bad Oysters. Also, the "crabmeat" and Shrimp salad with Old Bay Ranch, well besides the dressing that was the worst salad I've ever had. Felt it was time to post an update since I've been here more than a few times since my fist. RackSalt is extremely popular in the town of Westminster-it's one of a few non-chain popular restaurants here. And the food has made a name for itself. So it's always jam packed. Don't bother looking for reservations on Open Table--this is a first time first serve joint (put your name on a waiting list and wait!) I know I'm wordy, but keep reading, because this isn't an attempt to complain about the food. A few friends and I came on a Thursday evening, and had a 45 minute wait. There is now a nice waiting area with comfy seats so it was no big deal. We were disappointed when we were led to our table due to a few factors- size, and lack of comfort. The table was a small, narrow rectangular table with 4 bar stools. It was in the bar area and was extremely close to another table. The entire area was cramped as it isn't too big and it was drowning in a sea of humans. We asked for another seat but was told it would be a wait. Since one friend was too hungry to wait we just dealt with it. Sam, our waitress, is awesome! We've had her before and she is always enthusiastic and aims to please. One of my friends did chat with a manager about her displeasure with the way a hostess spoke to her. And he was pleasant and apologetic. But still-that table! No where to rest your purses-backless stools, no bar hooks. We asked about a stool to place our purses so we didn't have to eat with them on our laps. My bag is upscale, and I don't like to risk having food fall onto it. Even though we were told no, we persisted and Sam hooked us up with an extra stool. Food was good. I've noticed my crab cake was a bit over cooked this time, but didn't want to complain as the others were satisfied and enjoying. Portions are good. Although I've heard complaints that the crab cakes are smaller than before Covid. And that the crab soup is less hearty. It's a shame about the crabmeat shortage. Overall it was still a good experience. If we return we will request a non-high top table so that we won't end up contorting ourselves and balancing plates upon other plates. The environment brought my overall review down a notch. But I will be back, as I love to support local places with tasty food. read more

Super fantastic restaurant in downtown Westminister. We arrived in a Friday night at approximately 8:45 and the place was jam packed. We were quickly seated in the bar area and had a fabulous server who was a good mix of chatty and very responsive. I wish I recalled his name to give him credit. My favorite item we ordered was a bowl of half Maryland crab soup and half crab bisque. So so so yummy. Much better than other places I've tried. The portions are big and tasty. I was very excited to eat at this restaurant. Everyone that had recommended it to me absolutely raved about it. The food was pretty good, however, a few things to note. Our service was very disappointing. We were seated immediately which was lovely, but unfortunately the server walked by 3 times and didn't stop at our table to greet us until 8 minutes later. Being a former server, I understand how busy it can be. Walking by, making eye contact, and not acknowledging a new table was not great. When it came to food, the cream of crab soup had one small chunk of crab and the rest of just flavored cream. The seafood tater tots were delicious but came out cold and soggy. The rockfish stuffed with crab was pretty good but the fish wasn't too seasoned. The filet mignon stuffed with crab was delicious. After our food came out, we needed a refill on our waters, soda and a bar drink. After each time our server walked by, she stopped by every table except for ours. We had completely finished our food before we got her attention for refills. The manager stopped by every table in our section to check and make sure everything came okay, but again, never came to our table. He stood in the walkway and watched us finish our food with empty drinks. After all of this, we were kind of annoyed and paid our tab and left. I'd like to give this restaurant another chance. It may have been an isolated incident. I understand things happen. But it was not terribly busy that night. read more

Stopped in on a Sunday afternoon, both seating areas outside and inside we're quite congested, although we did not wait for a seating for inside. The inside seating is a little cramped. When you try to walk between tables, atmosphere is a little loud. We enjoyed our service and most of all, we enjoyed the food. My husband and I came here on a date after hearing some great reviews. It was busy for a Friday night and the hostess was very nice and we waited for fifteen minutes (no big deal and they texted us when our table was ready). We were seated and it took about 20 minutes and still no one has come to get us drinks or greet us. The hostess came over and apologized saying she forgot to tell our server we were seated. Ok....I mean it was pretty obvious we were sitting there but moving on.... We order all our food because we waited long enough to pick everything out. Our server came back with our drinks and bread and with the bread was old bag ranch sauce in stead of honey butter. We told our server who brought us honey butter which was so cold you couldn't really spread it. My husband ordered a medium filet with carrots and potatoes and I ordered the mango curry mahi mahi. My husband steak was well done. But it was ok overall. Mine however was a mess. The curry sauce tasted burnt and not prepared correctly. The sauce was also all over my entire dish making it pretty much inedible. Overall it was a pretty terrible experience from start to finish. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant for many different reasons including service and the food. Spend your money elsewhere. read more

We stumbled on this restaurant midway home from a trip to Gettysburg. The name seemed catchy. It had some good reviews. We were very glad we stopped. The food was delicious. We could see folks waiting to get it and it was getting late so we didn't know if we'd even get in. But seats were available on a very comfortable patio and we were able to dine there right away. My Seafood Club is ginormous and phenomenal. Worth the stop for sure -- and all the locals there clearly knew it. read more

We arrived about 2pm on Wednesday. The location was full. It was hot enough outside to want to dine inside. The wait was estimated at 30 minutes. About fifteen minutes later we were sent a text alert to be seated. Jesse was our server. He was polite and attentive. This was our third visit here. We asked for several modifications, they were all as expected. We enjoyed our lunch. Everything was very fresh, tasty, with well balanced seasoning. A friend told us to ask for the gluten free crabcake, because of a dietary situation. Several reviews stated "no fillers" but the restaurant does not make such claims. Jesse confirmed that they do have gluten free crabcakes. I ordered a regular for myself. I would be happy with either, my spouse enjoyed the gluten free version. We also enjoyed our sides. My Crazy Steve's Burger was cooked medium as ordered. I thoroughly enjoyed everything about my dish. read more

Was visiting family in town and had to give this place a try, since it's a local favorite. We had a reservation for a Saturday night and it was packed. We had to wait about ~15 minutes for our table. Once seated, it took a while for our waiter to come over and get our drink order. We asked for bread, which was delicious. 1 of us ordered the crab cake and 2 of us ordered the braised short ribs. The crab cake was surprisingly dry, but it was good. The short rib came out cold - not luke warm, but cold. It was also super fatty. Both servings/portions of it. We flagged it for our waiter, who remedied the issue and brought us our new meals. 30 minutes later, the hot short rib was good. It was a bummer for the 3rd person to have to eat their meal alone so that it didn't get cold. I'm hoping this was just a one-off bad experience, as I so badly wanted to like Rock Salt after hearing such great things. read more

Never have I ever had a crab cake like this! I was in town visiting my boyfriend's family and they brought me here. This is the place where I realized I have never before had the pleasure of a true crab cake; everything else has only ever been a whisper of crab - mere shredded crab by comparison! They told me you can't even get them with lump meat like this in Pennsylvania (where I haven't been) and I take their word for it. Was there this evening, Feb. 17th with my family of 7 total for a birthday dinner. Corey was our server. Right from the start he was abrupt in how he presented himself. He served 2 of us drinks who were seated early. As the other 5 arrived in 5 mins, he made them wait a while, & even longer for us all to order! He stood completely behind me & said so what do you want? Couldn't hear him @ all, & went around the table in an annoyed matter not explaining what came with burger choices. But he was so unprofessional in how he took our orders. We have been here alot over the yrs & never experienced such an experience! Food was good, but was difficult to enjoy with this servers demeanor. He even interfered with a private conversation my daughter was having with her husband! SEAFOOD LOVERS If you are in the area, this is definitely a go to place. Westminster has it's gems and this is one of them! Prices are higher compared to normal dining at more casual places but you pay for the quality here. I got the shrimp salad sandwich with the loaded potato salad on the side and those two things separately would have been great! Both are very creamy, and when you eat them together it's just a whole lotta mayonnaise and I'm assuming sour cream combined, from the two dishes. The french fries would have probably been a better choice, but because those two things were still outstanding, no stars were deducted :) The sandwich and side together were also enough to fill me up and have some leftovers for later. We were passing through Westminster and thought we'd grab a quick bite. So I opened the ole yelp app and went to work. At the top of the list was RockSalt grille...perfectly situated in the town proper. Upon arrival we found street parking a bit crowded, fortunately there is a lot behind the building with quite a few spaces. Once parked we stepped inside to a pleasantly bustling bar/restaurant located in a historic building. The host was able to find us a table in short order and several of the staff greeted us as we made our way through the establishment to our seats. Once seated, that's when things got a little weird. 5 minutes...10 minutes...15 minutes...really? No matter which way I waved or stared for eye contact I seemed invisible. Fortunately, a friendly server finally took pity on these weary travelers and apologized profusely for the miscue. Appetizer and entree order was placed and the drinks showed up in short order. A short while later our appetizer of Crisfield Caprese showed and it was great. Sadly we had to play quite the waiting game to get the seafood club sandwich. To her credit, our server apologized a few times for the kitchens painfully slow turnaround. Once we had stuffed ourselves on good Maryland style cooking, we paid the bill and headed south. My mom and I were only in MD for two days and this was the first place we stopped for lunch after leaving the airport. We got there just after 1pm on a Tuesday and it was busy but not too full. We were seated immediately and greeted by our server shortly after. We decided on the Crab Pretzel to share to start, and we were both incredibly impressed with the flavor profile. It was cheesy, filled with lumps of crab and a light sauce that had a bit of heat on the back end. It was perfect, and dangerously good. My mom had the lump crab cakes with slaw and French fries. I had the burger special which was a maple bacon cheeseburger. Both were more than just good... they were Great! This place is absolutely worth the 4.5 stars it's been rated... The restaurant itself is cozy without being too crowded. It has a patio and three dining segments made of the bar area, main dining room, and a side dining room. There's beautiful stained glass, tall ceilings, and clean decor. It's not too busy; very well designed. Our server was Juliana and she was very attentive and informed about the menu.
