Absolutely HORRIBLE experience. Found a stray dog in my neighborhood that was skin and bones today. I brought her to this shelter in hope that they could help her and possibly aid her back to help before rehoming. The lady in the front, Billy (if thats even her real name, she was hesitant on telling me), was EXTREMELY rude the second i walked in the door. Had the worst attitude Ive ever heard. Not at all helpful, and couldn't care less about the dog. She refused to take the dog because I didn't have proof of residency in rockwall (I just recently moved here). The dog was microchipped so they just gave me the owners name, number, and address. I dont even know if that should be allowed. I guess they just give out a persons information to a stranger. I had to give the poor dog back to the owner who is clearly abusing her since she looked like she hadnt eaten in months. They didnt offer to give the dog water, treats, nothing. Even though she was clearly hungry and thirsty. Luckily i gave her some before i had to return her back to the owner. I cant believe these are the people Rockwall allows to watch over those animals. Absolutely disgusting and unprofessional. Really shows how much the manager, owner, and city cares about the animals in need. read more

I have filled out an application to adopt and yet have gotten a call back or anything.

Both my dogs had horrible kennel cough from this location. Also my daughter worked there and a manager told her she had no common sense!!! What a b*tch!! Question: Didn't you work her a month before hiring her?? YES YOU DID! Also manager wrote she was out sick but she had a doctors note and only missed one day due to horrible sinus infection. Very unprofessional staff!! No leadership at all. Horrible to treat people that way. read more

HORRIBLE Experience at this place, HORRIBLE customer service Came in this morning because I picked up a lost dog from Rockwall took it to Animal Hospital of Rowlett, that's were I take my 2 dogs that I have for visits, to see if the lost dog had a chip, poor baby did not. 2 ladies working there did NOT believe that the dog I brought in was found in Rockwall. The lady's names were Debbie and Molly. Debbie's exact words "we get dogs from other areas because this location is better, and we don't have space for all the animals."  Okay well that sounds like your problem, you figure out that issue because that's your job.   The other lady, her name was Molly said, "your story does not make sense, how did you get the dog here so fast if you took the dog to Rowlett." I have been living in Rockwall for 20 years, I know how to get from Rockwall to Rowlett in 20 minutes, it's not rocket science nor is it impossible. Never meet staff so enthusiastic about their job, with horrible customer service, not to mention so unwelcoming. MANAGEMENT: I would ask you to consider educating these two staff members on customer service and what is appropriate to say formally and informally to individuals who step into the building. read more

NEVER EVER EVER USE THIS PLACE. The lady at the front desk Debbie should not be working at an animal shelter. Found the dog on the shoulder of highway 30 in Rockwall and debbie told me that i was lying about the location the dog was picked up. Also had the audacity to tell me that maybe i shouldn't have picked the dog up because she could have bit me. Debbie does not have a heart big enough to be working at this type of place, maybe a call center would be a better option for her. TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE customer service. read more

VERY IMPORTANT update! This shelter is now completely privatized and run by Collin County Humane Society. It is still no-kill! Much of the staff has changed. You are now greeted by a friendly animal loving face, unlike what the previous reviews say. Don't be afraid to come in and check them out. They are bursting at the seams with dogs and cats that need homes. read more

This is a great place with good people! We were looking to adopt a shelter dog so we went here and the employees & volunteers were really great! They let us test out dogs for personality, demeanor, and best fit for our home. They were helpful, accommodating, and really wanted what was best for the dog and the owner. The facility is clean and has a nice set up to shelter the dogs. Would recommend! read more

I adopted 2 wonderful kittens from this shelter in the last 4 months. I got Indigo in May and though I love him to death, he is a very rambunctious kitten and I finally caved and found him a friend on Monday, so he would have someone his own age and size to play with. "Grover" (his shelter name) is the most amazing and adaptive kitten ever! He is the perfect addition to our household that has now, because of him, been restored to harmony. He lived at the shelter for 2 months and was even returned once before I took him home on Monday. Patty, from the shelter, was very accommodating and helpful when I visited and answered all of my questions when she brought "Grover" out into the playroom. I am so Grateful to have both of them in my life and am very impressed with the condition of the shelter, the animals and the staff. "Trident" and "Grover" are definitely living their "Happy Tails".... read more

I am very upset with this place. I found a dog after a huge storm and they refused to take it. They said it is not their area. I am not from here and do not know the area but this was the closest according to my GPS.and she sent me to another place that also would not take the dog. She was rude and condescending read more

After "applying" for our new furry friend, we were ecstatic that he was still available. We drove over an hr to pick him up, paid $75 to cover shots and neuter. Soon after, we realized he had a really bad upper respiratory. We drove another 2 hours to get medicine for him. They proceeded to hive a date to my boyfriend for the neuter, didn't even let him chose a day. When we tried to reschedule (with a damn good reason), they told us it would be an additional $30 to reschedule. I told the woman forget it, I'll get it done here for cheaper and not have to drive 2 hrs. She said "well I need proof by (another date) because we don't need more kittens running around".. Also, they can come take your pet and take you to court if you don't "follow the rules". Read the fine print when you're applying! I should have run the other way! read more

All I can say is this place is awful. A terrible terrible experience with him today. Left there bawling and crying and just couldn't believe the way they treated me. I had a couple kittens a month-and-a-half ago and they were ready to go to families I was keeping two and made sure that the rest of them had good homes because I didn't want them to end up in the shelter. Little did I know that one of the high school girls that was friends with my son lied to me about the kittens that her mom and grandma was okay with it. I guess they weren't and I just happened to be up at the shelter today looking for cats. And there was my little it see the little baby kitten that I watched be born. And gave her to what I thought was a loving family. I wanted to keep her but this girl seems so excited about her so I let her have her. Anyway I guess the girls grandma didn't want her so she took the kitten up to the shelter lied to them and said that it was a stray and they found it two days ago. Which was an out-and-out lie because the kitten was given away yesterday. Yes I gave the kitten to somebody that I thought was reliable never thought that she would end up in the shelter. And when I realized it was her I cannot believe the way I was belittled and to be out to be a bad guy because I had a kitten who had kittens. She was 4 months old when she got pregnant and the shelter that was going spay her said that she couldn't be Spades and she had already ended up pregnant. Several of the staff members there and an animal shelter officer was completely rude and sat and argued with me forever. It was kind of funny because they said I could have her back if I gave them $75 for an adoption fee. Why should I have to adopt my cat back. I know why they wanted it because they said that somebody else had already come in and adopted her so they were going to get that $75. So if I took her they weren't going to get their money. It is just absolutely ridiculous I cannot believe that they would keep a kitten away from its mother and the rest of its family just to make a buck. I will never go there ever ever again. It just amazes me how people these days are so money hungry. They want to just sit and pretend that they had the cats interest at heart but they did not all they wanted was that $75 that that lady was going to give them. But like I said if I was going to take her then they weren't going to get that money. But like I said by the way if I had the 75 bucks I could have her back. Completely completely awful never heard of such. read more

This shelter has gotten pretty weird. I LOVE their no-kill stuff. The volunteers are AWESOME and they even have a big adoption trailer now, saw them at PetCo today. But the service at the shelter is gotten worse. I still say stay away from the frowny people in uniform. Find a happy person in a teeshirt and support no-kill. read more

We had to surrender a dog that was abandoned by previous owners. We tried to make it work but unfortunately it didn't work. The manager was so rude and made us feel like awful people. She called us liars and said we didn't try everything to make it work. I will never go there or use them again. She made an already hard decision worse. Then the other employees were making comments about the situation. Worst experience I have had! read more

I foster for the shelter and work the adoption events every weekend ... I think the new staff is doing an amazing job ... The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is because they are still learning and growing with the shelter ... I have learned over the years that the shelter will never be able to please all the people (including myself at times) ... but to me ... it isn't about pleasing people ...it is about caring for the shelter animals ... as long as the animals are well taken care of ... that's what matters and the new staff seems to be doing a good job of it ... Staff members took the animals "special" treats on Thanksgiving and Christmas day ... Wonder how many other shelter animals got this kind of attention? ... These staff members took time out from their families to do this ... just one example how they are working hard ... You know that old saying "Until you've walked a mile in their shoes"? So ... do your best to be supportive of the shelter .... negative comments only hurt the animals ... Keep up the good work CCHS@Rockwall!! read more
