    Animal shelter

I came to this shelter looking for a dog but was saddened to see how many of the kennels were unclean. All the dogs were stepping in there own poop. So sad. I'm not sure how often they clean the kennels but it seemed to be in every single kennel had dog poop in it.

I wish I could give this place a gazillion stars. My boyfriend and I adopted our boy Meech (formerly Gordo) from Richardson Animal Shelter. We had the most amazing experience, everyone was so nice, specifically Bubba and Hailey. Bubba made sure that he was microchipped before we left and made sure we had everything we needed to care for Meech. We just moved to Texas from California and just feel so blessed to already have people so welcoming and helpful for us to start our life here. Thank you bubba so much we appreciate y'all more than we can explain. PS Meech is the sweetest and bestest boy we couldn't be more in love

There's plenty dogs and cats that are ready for adoption and easy process to adopt. They are nice and friendly! I just adopted my cat today! And I adopted my dog about 5-6 years ago! I highly recommend them to adopted there because they been vaccinated for prevent diseases and they already installed micro chip in cats!

I'm so happy I found snuggle bug. We changed her name to Cleopatra. She is the queen in our home and is enjoying her life with us. She fits in perfectly with our dogs and she's super healthy. I cant imagine life without her. I had a great experience at the shelter. The cat lady volunteers were fantastic and the man at the front made this process smooth and flawless even gave me a cute blanket to bring Cleo home in her carrier. I'm so happy Cleopatra chose me and yes...she loves sleeping on cashmere. Thank you Richardson Animal shelter I appreciate all you do.

Great place. We donate food, towels and shampoo for the dogs. You can also get in some community hours and take classes on the care of the animals. Please donate your time, money or what ever you can to this organization.

When we met her at the Shelter.

Our 12 1/2 year old Shepard mix was in very poor health. We adopted him ten years ago from the Richardson Animal Shelter. His best bud was our 11 year old Pit/Boston Terrier mix who loves to play. We didn't want her to be without another pup when the older one crossed the Rainbow Bridge so we searched the Richardson Animal Shelter web site and chose five different dogs we'd consider, with the third (in order of cage number) as our favorite. Making an appointment was super easy, and they worked around my wife's, my daughter's and my schedule. NO problem with rudeness. NO problem with COVID, so I'm sad to see others didn't have as positive an experience. Moving on, the Shelter has a nice little dog park where they do insist on a meet-and-greet if you have other dogs. Not a problem. Long story short, we saw #1. OK. We saw #2. OK. We saw #3 and didn't even consider seeing the other two. We adopted her on the spot. She's healthy, lively (perhaps a little too lively, but she's only one year old), got along playfully with our healthy dog and we took her home. We have no concerns about how well the Shelter cared for her, as you can see from the photos. The first is how she looked when her picture was taken after almost a year as a stray. The second is how she looked when we met her in the dog park. Amazing. Our failing dog has since died, but the pit/terrier and our new pup are getting along wonderfully and the older one is now far more active since she actually has someone to run around with. Like I said, I'm sorry to see so many disappointed folks commenting here, but, as far as we're concerned, the Richardson Animal Shelter is our "go to" place if we're ever in this position again.

This is Lily snuggled under the covers. She loves to snuggle. In this, she was peeking out to see what I was doing ... LOL

This shelter houses their animals in the most humane way I've ever seen. They also were incredibly informative about each dog I inquired about to ensure I found the best match possible. She ran away from home and ended up in the shelter for about a week. Because of whatever policies Plano has, they spayed her. Bella was 11, and it is incredibly high-risk to alter dogs at that age. Because of that decision, a few weeks later, Bella developed cancer. We took her to the vet to get checked out, and they told us how much the cancer treatment would cost. They also confirmed that when you spay older dogs like this, they are at a very high risk of developing cancer. Ultimately, she died. I had to put her down because she was in so much pain. Mark my words, Plano Animal Services, karma will come for you. May Bella rest in peace. I will never forgive y'all. Bella was healthy. She was my childhood dog, and I had her ever since I was almost 7 years old. Now, I am crossing the stage for my high school graduation today without her here--she is just watching over me instead.

After looking for an entire weekend, and…read moregoing to 7 different animal adoption locations in Dallas, Carrollton and Plano, I saw a Facebook post of kittens at Garland and we planned to come by the next week. Our first round of looking was frustrating, as it was hard to find kittens and you couldn't get an idea of their personality at most shelters who make you apply before you look. Garland Pawsibilities was amazing! Initially we went to the garland shelter but were directed here because they have more cats. They have this amazing kitten social room that you can go sit in, and let the animals Come to you. It was a great way to let their personalities shine and privacy for the adopters as well, with no pressure. I went in on a mission to find a tabby cat, which they did have, but this tiny little black kitten stole my heart. He came up to my boyfriend and I and sat at our feet and was just so curious about who we were. I know if they didn't have the kitten room we would've never come home with our perfect kitten! He was very young when we adopted him, so he did require more shots we paid for at his vet. Just keep this in mind for new adopters. The workers were great and let My boyfriend and I take as much time as we needed. They answered all of our questions, and each time I stop in they seem to have a similar staff that is very friendly. Thank four for all you do! A year later and we can't believe what a great cat we got. He has been happy and healthy since.

We had the same happen to us; you enter and it's immediately a sense of seriousness and "what do you want?" type of attitude. Lovely. I am always in support of people and organizations that reach out to animals in need and it warms my heart when either I or someone else, adopts. This bunch, however, comes off rude and uncaring and as though customers (potential adopters) are an inconvenience and certainly NOT the first priority. A few days ago (from today's posted date) my husband and I adopted a kitten of roughly 6-8 weeks. A sweet, beautiful cream-colored boy. The process was straight to the point and simple enough, however I'd like to make a note that when I was asking about vaccinations, microchips, etc. the woman who I was talking to paid more attention to what her friend was saying than what my questions were. I'd hate to come off as "high maintenance"; I'm simply trying to understand what the kitten is expected to receive in order to live healthy and content. That following evening I noticed the kitten was having a hard time going to the bathroom (#2) so I started inspecting him. His belly was clearly expanded but I figured he simply ate a lot at the shelter, upon examining his rectum there was a clear sign of major (MAJOR) constipation and a potential hemorrhoid. We gave the kitten a warm wash to remove any residue since he was, in fact, LEAKING from the bottom (and continued leaking). My heart broke after realizing this kitten needed medical attention and was most likely in serious discomfort. I'll save you the time about the measures we went through that day (Saturday) and following Sunday, and the fact that the whole weekend consisted of us tending to the little guy from morning till night in any way we can. My husband consulted with a local vet and he said the kitten is most likely suffering from an infection, so by keeping him safe in a kennel we were letting him rest while keeping distance from any bacteria reaching our other cat. We agreed it was best to return the kitten back to the shelter that Monday where he could get around-the-clock medical treatment. The day the kitten was returned, I had to be at work, so my husband went alone and later shared the story. All in all we spent $80 on the adoption and about $80+ more on his general care for those 1.5 days. He entered and explained the situation. The woman pointed at our adoption papers and without mentioning anything else, said that there's "no refund". My husband was shocked...he didn't even mentioned money once, in fact he answered that he doesn't care about the money, he just wants the kitten to get medical attention. She looked at the kitten sitting in our pet-taxi and asked if he'll need his taxi back. Thieves, much?! "Yes." It's clearly all about money for these guys. She took the kitten out and he left. No regard for animals or people. Rude, inconsiderate and greedy. Stay away from this place. We adopted from Plano Animal Shelter once, which was a pleasant experience and visited Rockwall Animal Shelter, which the customer service is night and day compared to this hole. - Concerned Citizen and Animal Lover

As a new volunteer, you are provided training but when you ask questions you are belittled and made to feel incompetent. When I asked questions, I was responded to by Jaqueline "I told you this x amount of times last month or how we went over this already" or she would send screenshots on when she provided me the answer. As a new volunteer, you should ask questions even if things do not make sense because it is a learning curve so things will be asked repeatedly. If you are not interested in training people, then don't or maybe trainers need to be given leadership and communication classes. She was very rude & had a nasty delivery. By this being a company that is mainly ran by volunteers no one should ever be spoken to in this manner. Jenny eventually stepped in and asked if I wanted to be placed in another dept however, but no one ever said sorry or took accountability for how I was spoken to on numerous attempts. Even when I asked "do you have a moment to talk" Jaqueline said "No I do not" it was like pulling teeth followed by smart remarks!! I was solely trying to volunteer out the kindness of my heart, but I will not be spoken to disrespectfully. I have a whole MBA and I run programs by career so I would've been an asset but oh well!! I'm not dealing with disrespectful people who have a smart mouth!!! One bad apple can truly ruin a company's reputation. In the future, I hope they take accountability, train individuals to be patient with new volunteers, and provide volunteers apologies instead of brushing over someone's ignorant behaviors!!! Hopefully, they take better care of the animals because their communication and leadership to volunteers is poor.
