Went to get an OK drivers license switched to a TX license. Have to make appointment to be seen(no big deal lots of places operate that way) however the wait is 3-4 months! That's just poor organization and time management. My appointment was today, arrived on time, I have everything the online portal told me I needed ready to go. I hand my paperwork in but apparently they don't take copied SS, A lease agreement is only valid as proof of residency with a signature page, and I also needed two proofs of residency not one(NONE of this information is on their website)! They gave me till 3:30 to have all the right documents. Okay, so I go home get everything I need then head back. Waited a while to be seen again then handed in my paperwork, and I was then told my birth certificate was a copy not an original, and a 1040 isn't accepted as proof of residency(All the bills are in my husbands name), oh an my car insurance wasn't valid because it is registered in my married name not my maiden name(my DL is still my maiden, another reason I was going on to get a new one)this point I get frustrated and explain that I've already been to my house once and driven back just to get back and be told my documents still aren't valid, and that I'm gonna have to be put back on the 3 month waiting list. Go somewhere else to save time. I've never heard of a DMV needing so much information and not being able to take official copies. They where so picky on what they needed when really they had enough Information. I've been to several DMVs and had several DL, none of which have even needed so many or been so picky about documentation. read more

I scheduled an appointment online and when I went in it wasn't in the system. The girl up front was very helpful... Was able to fill me in and give me a number. The employees here are no-nonsense, generally well prepared, and efficient. They are helpful as long as you come prepared. You absolutely need to do your homework and make sure you bring all documentation listed. If you're missing anything, be prepared to be told, "Sorry, you will need to reschedule." You sit dumbfounded taking it in, thinking how you waited three months for an appointment to get in the door. This is reminiscent of California politics, except that even in California it doesn't take this long. Utterly unacceptable. I wish I knew why this issue has continued for so long. read more

Awful awful awful. Don't use this office if you can help it. Had the unfortunate experience of having to deal with a young pregnant woman at the front. She was rude, condescending, unhelpful and hateful. I just moved to Texas and my insurance office put my new city and old state on my ID cards. She wouldn't accept it even though I had numerous other documentation options. She wanted to say "you're in Texas now" rather than trying to find ways to help. Then she wanted to threaten to get a state trooper Bc she said I "snatched" my paperwork out of her hand. I've come to expect rude behavior at DMV offices but she was the worst. I think she was showing out Bc she was training someone. I tried calling the office to complain but of course you can never speak to a person at the actual office. read more

I know it takes forever to see someone, but if you call ahead of time , you don't have to wait . As long and sometimes not at all . It does get crowded. Any I've worked with two of the DPS workers and one that came out and answered questions and told us to make sure to have our paperwork together... I seriously can't say enough good things about this location. We've been 3 different times for various reasons since the appointment changes were made. We are in and out super fast and everyone has been surprisingly friendly. Big shout out to Lisa Davis! My daughter was so anxious and she was just the sweetest at calming her. Gave me an appointment for 10:40( come in at 10:10) Waited in my car in the shade with lots of trees around.)Didn't have to wait very long once I got in...everyone was very nice. The only reason I am giving one star is because there isn't anything lower. I understand this is a busy place. That is why it is even more maddening that they move at a snail's pace! For the love, they do NOT get in any hurry here at all. Their services are apparently limited here, too, so many people who have been waiting forever then learn they have to go elsewhere. Waste of time! My husband and I got there before they opened for a stand by appointment and we found two more people already in line. Right at 7:30 an employee came outside announcing "appointments only" as she passed out a card with appointment instructions. She said there's no stand by appointments because system was down last week. ????? She never told us that we actually needed to go and schedule the appointment on their website. Don't know what happened to this place. A few years ago, there was no crowd. Without crow, the workers there always move at snail pace. This is not the only DMV that work at snail pace. Seem like all, not just Texas, but California, Nevada & Arizona as well. The government needs to privatize DMV. Let's the private sector manage. OMG. You need a survival kit to come to this place. I would recommend a folding chair, a bottle of water and pack a lunch. It will take you almost three hours to get into the door to get any service. It would be a good idea to go on the website ahead of time to review any documents you may need. Getting a license in Texas is one of worst experience you could go through, it ranks right up there with getting your wisdom teeth pulled. read more

Now granted, I come from NY where it feels like everyone has bought real estate within the actual DMV offices so having just 2 to 3 people here was a stark difference. I recently move back to TX, I am very concerned that you can't get into the DPS unless you take off work for the day. I have been there a few times to try to get my TX license and each time the place is full with people sitting on the floor due to there not being enough seats. I checked in online to renew my driver's license in person, since I'm not eligible for online renewal. The site sent me to ROCKWALL - a 30 minute drive! I got here right when I was supposed to, according to their "online/ in line" system. But the online check-in kiosk at the Rockwall office is "down." And the office is overflowing. And they keep trying to tell us that those of us without chairs must wait outside. And I'm like, I'm not going out in the 90 degree heat, and if they want me to do that they can come talk to me and also explain WTF is the deal with the online check-in!!! The staff here just keep saying it's "not our fault" and "nothing they can control." Well, who IS in control?!?! The phone number given on the website is nothing but an automated system - I can't even reach a human being at that number! When I lived there I took my son in to get his state id. We waited and waited and waited. Finally was called went up to the desk to find out we could not use the papers we had so I had to go up to the library and print off other paper go back we only had to wait but maybe another 15 mins. So I pay for my sons id he takes the picture we wait and wait and wait for his id to show. In the meantime we move (the buyers of the house was going to give his id to a friend/neighbor of ours) well id still has not shown up and his temporary id expired 7 days ago. I have been up to the office a few times on a tight schedule and it sucks that there is not anyone to ask questions to but instead wait 2-3 hours to ask a 5 min question.
